I think I'll be heading there in April for the full infield course. I don't have the schedule handy.

Is your car ready otherwise? Where are you located? I have to fix some perpetual power steering issues, but other than that I'm good to go. Car was blowing PS fluid all over the place last trip out.

Brake pads, what kind, both front & rear?, SS brake lines, fluid type? alignment? Oh, and I have an automatic,?

I'll try to keep this thread going with current discount codes for Rockauto. If you haven't ordered parts there yet, I suggest you give it a shot, prices are hard to beat and they actually carry some higher quality stuff than your local parts store.

* Enter your code in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart.
* If you are using our traditional HTML catalog, please click the "Set" button to the right of the field.
* Your discount will automatically appear, subtracted from your order total.

This discount code expires on April 15, 2008:

923858637311

There are a bunch of steps in the FSM before you get to here, right? I'm not positive, not having a MAF car. I think there many more MAFs replaced than there are bad MAFs. Many more ECMs, too. I have heard of subbing one on the car from either another Corvette, or even an F body. Maybe a friend has...

I agree that there are many replaced that shouldn't but I've also seen many other steps taken (per FSM) when the problem turns out to be the MAF. They're touchy things, throwing codes when they shouldn't and not throwing codes when they should ...

Central Coaster,

Looks awesome! Makes me want to get out there myself.

I want to autocross so bad I can taste it, but that track looks even more fun than autocross.

Pictures are great too!

Hi Guys this is my first post to this great web Site.
I Have a 1990 Vert. I would like to service my tranny by dropping the pan.
Are there any useful hints or tricks in doing this due to the X brace under the Verts?
Thanking you in advance for any help.

The talk about Bullet and the best car chase kicked of a random thought. I think one of the best scenes in any movie was the foot chase at the beginning of Octapussy. The double O agent dressed as a clown running for all he's worth, wounded, past the point of complete exhaustion, but he won't quit until his mission is complete. He makes it into the British embasy and then it's as if his mind tells his body it's ok to die now. I loved that scene.

BTW, the only Pink Panther movie that didn't have "Pink Panther" in the title was the first one. It was entitled "A Shot in the Dark" and is every bit as hilarious as the others.

"A Shot in the Dark" was the second Pink Panther movie, 1964. "The Pink Panther" was released in 1963.

While we're talking about Peter Sellers don't forget "Dr. Strangelove".

Two of my favorites:

"Bullitt" possibly the best car chase on film (even though it is a Mustang)

"Once Upon a Time in the West" the king of the spaghetti westerns. Henry Fonda as a psychopathic hired gun.

Came as you see, with the C4 center caps, direct bolt on for 84-87. AFS is easy to deal with, and I think I got a great deal. I got wheels and tires, lugs and locks, shipped to my door for $970. I got the Kumho tires. They're not the best, but they aren't bad either. When the snow clears, I'll tell you how they run out!

I love the look!!!!

However, don't dis on the Kumho's. They may be cheaper, but they are a VERY good tire.

serious "blast" from the past.

At one point, there was a transmission and entire model chassis available for that engine kit. I cannot imagine what the chassis kit must be worth today.

I don't think so. It seems to make the steering more responsive and I like that.

[quote]I have found the magic car. It's called "application specific." I have four of them; One to race, one to tow, one to drive to work in the summer and one to drive to work in the winter. None of them are good in any of the other aspects and none of them are particularly valuable, but they're all great cars.

:withstupid]

Even if it won't tow, you gotta keep the 69, maybe hotrod it a little, it's a classic.
I had a 77 Chev van that I bought new and put 350,000 miles on. It wouldn't tow for chit, even the truck crate motor wouldn't pull that well up the mountains or any grade, like 45mph. 10 mpg towing
I bought a 2000, 2 wheel dr, Silverado 5.3 vortec with 65,000 on it for $12k
Assume motor, runs 60 mph on the mountain with a 4,000 lb. trailer and gets 16 mpg towing. Yep, a pain to work on but, its never been in a shop and at 120,000 something finally wore out, front wheel brg,.

When on CF, I was talking to PeteK about a converter. I then got a PM from fuddle, telling me that I should buy a brand name converter, not a converter from a private seller. I thought that was pretty tacky and turned me off to them no matter how good their converter might be. I ended up buying a used TCS converter. It has a 12" back and a 9.5" front. Kind of wierd looking but the idea is that the kevlar lockup clutch is bigger than a 9.5" therefore works better and lasts longer, but the front is 9.5" so the weight is down and performance is good. It doesn't feel like stock but it is very driveable. I wouldn't want it if I were worried about gas mileage tho as mine went down with the new converter. Of course my foot got a little heavier at the same time!

The main difference between myself and Fuddle is I never tried to sell converters. They needed to sell them to eat. I sold them based on request. They were a forum sponsor, and I was not, so I respected them.
I was lucky. I stumbed upon an anal retentave, small, family owned shop that built converters. Every time they built me a performance converter, their peckers got hard. They enjoyed doing them that much. I sold a few based on inquities, and it spread through word of mouth.
I guess what I am trying to say is there is no such thing as a PeteK converter. Only a PeteK box with someone else's converter. Everyone who bought one knew this.
If I had to buy one other than my guy's, it would be a converter from Andre at Edge.
To my knowledge, no one had been unhappy with a converter I sold them. I have sold 3 converters to guys who pulled out their Fuddle to install mine.

Is there a tutorial on the replacement of the rar wheel bearings on a 96 C-4? I'll be installing new tapered bearing soon, thanks to Jr RifleCoach. Mine are howling when I go through a hard right turns. As a side note I've seen dialectric "U" joins for my C-4???? and prices from$25.00 to $65.00? What do you recommend for "U" joints?

Glad it's Thursday - the end of the work week. It was a rather strange week. Had Mon off for a holiday; in training Tues and Weds (which was rather excruciating); in the office on Thurs; and off tomorrow. Not a bad week altogether.

Hmm. I wonder how much load those rods can possibly see? Lighter is better if I can get away with it.

A grade 8 bolt is good for about 120,000 psi in tension at the thread root. But they'll fail in tension at about 23,200 psi under fatigue.
Grade 5 bolts are good for about 18,600 psi under fatigue.

Looks like they usually snap at the first engaged thread. After 6 or 7 threads, the rest don't carry any load at all. Of course they're preloaded too. Overtightening them reduces how much load the link can carry.

Hard to find info about thread strength. If they're in an aluminum link, the threads may strip first.

It made my weekend free. It caused the cancellation of the PSCA race at The Strip in Las Vegas. So I'll just relax.

I don't mind the rain. I just wish it wouldn't rain during morning and evening rush hours. There's plenty of time in the middle of the day and overnight to rain.

Hey DaleD! Yeah I guess you're right. I have to drive up to the local mountains to get snow. I don't mind a little rain, just not day in and day out.
