Ron, the only C2 owner there was Joe (DDSJoseph). He left as soon as we brought the Sawzall out... I don't think he wanted to bare witness.

Our 62 has an old set of Lloyd mats. I posted a thread on the other forum about their restoration.... posted some good tips here:

Thanks for the warm welcome. I know a couple of the local gurus already, and I'm sure I'll see some of the others around.

WRT "sent over", I've been sent to camp a time or two. Heck, I even had one sentence commuted. I make an earnest effort to avoid getting a permanent vacation. Too many people are depending on me.

Somewhat new here, but a little slow at checkin in...

Given my high-brow nature, and the fact I exemplify a typical C1/C2 owner, I was sent over from C1/C2 Tech at the other forum as an ambassador of goodwill.

I look forward to cordial discourse and the free exchange of ideas, with others of intellect, on Corvette-Guru.

CentralCoaster's post reminded me, are any of the locals up for a meet and greet at Alpine Village in Torrance?

I plan to be at Famoso the 18th and 19th, but am pretty much open the rest of the weekends...

Congratulations on the write-up Bogus. It's always nice to get a little deserved recognition.

I met Andy Bolig at the Cruise-In this past May. He struck me as having a genuine interest in the "man on the street" type Corvette owner...

Why? IMO it would prove what I just said

The results would be negligible, disproving all the marketing.

What constitutes negligible? 5 - 10HP? Ten HP would be worth 1 MPH in the 1/4. That's not negligible to me. I'd like to see A-B tests in a controlled setting.

I've got nothing against Dart or AFR. Both have a good reputation. Last December, I ordered a pair of Darts for my truck's engine, just a doo-da 383 grunt motor. Cost and immediate availabilty were both factors. The AFR Eliminator heads were back ordered at the time, and I thought I was going back on active duty, and didn't have the time to wait for the AFRs. I would have gladly paid extra for the AFR heads at the time, but I couldn't chance the wait.

My 180 CC Pro 1 Platinum heads measured 11 CC larger on the intake ports than advertised, and the 64 CC chambers I ordered, and expected, came in at 69 CC. IMHO, a 191.5 CC intake runner does not equal the 180 CC advertised number. Oh well, you get what you pay for...

I go to great lengths to get every available ounce of power out of my engines. The larger than spec'd compression-killing Dart Pro 1 Platinum chambers, and torque-killing oversized runners leave me somewhat less than enamored with Dart at this point in time.

I think it would be pretty cool if someone had the stones to step up and test both heads A-B on their engine, on the same dyno, on the same day.

Pony up a little jack for the other set of heads, spin a few wrenches, and be done with it. Let the chips fall where they may.

A 327 with all that work is now, what? A 345? That thing must scream.

A 327 has a 4.0" bore (like a 350, and a 3.25" stroke. With the 3.85" stroke and overbore, it's 395 CI give or take.

Thanks for the kind words.

Bogus, we're running the original 327/300 HP. he block is + .040", and it has a 3.85" stroke, the stock heads have been ported, and the cam is a regrind from Camonics.

The car currently has a 3.36 P case posi. The intake is a #8120 Weiand low-rise dual plane. I may try a ported Team G at a later date. It is supposed to fit under hood. I'm also considering a swap to a HR cam.

biggrizzly, without breaking out a tape measure, I would guess we have about 7-8" clearance between the headers and the ground. The tail pipes have plenty of clearance.

Decided to swap headers on the 62. Replaced a set of unknown 1 5/8" X 3.00" mid-length headers, with a set of hooker super comp 1 3/4" x 3.00" headers (28" primaries).

When I first installed the 1 5/8" headers, I replaced the stock 2.00" manifolds and stock exhaust. At that time, I upgraded to 2 1/2" mandrel-bent pipes. The header/exhaust swap provided a nice SOP boost, and were good for about 2 mpg.

I'm hoping to pick-up the mid and top end with the larger headers. I'll be heading to the track on 10/18 to try to quantify the change.

The new headers fit the chassis OK, but there is a rattle that will need to be fixed (pass side header collector and frame). Spark plug access is good, but the clearance is tight for a couple of the boots.
Old vs new headers

I found the unsavory character holding the sawzall loitering in a Home Depot parking lot holding a sign that said, "Will wrench for food."

2 1/2" tail pipes

I drove the car to the muffler shop with open pipes. The car was noticeably louder with the bigger headers, compared to the open 1 5/8" headers. The throttle response was crisp. With the new head pipes, the car is fairly quiet, even compared to the car with the smaller headers. Haven't gotten on it yet with the larger headers, so I can't comment yet on the change in performance.

Well, Cuisinartvette and I swapped the 1 5/8" mid-length headers on the 62 last Sunday for a pair of Hooker 1 3/4" Super Comps. I need to get off my can and re-install the plugs and wires, get the thing off the stands. Hope I make it to the muffler shop before Johnny Law stops me...

Ron, the work looks good. I like the shots of the intake. When will you be getting them flowed?

Ah come on Ron, I was just agreeing with you about the camel humps; time and money are all that stand between my car and a LSx swap.

With that said, I'm not convinced the Dart heads will out perform my 46 y.o. Chevy 300HP castings... and some dyno runs with an A - B head swap seems like a lot of work just to find out.

I agree, those old camel humps just don't flow, nor do they MPH worth a crap...

Ron, the numbers don't look bad. It looks like you picked-up 20+ CFM. With the ported intake, that should be good for at least 1.5 - 2 mph in the 1/4.
