PRESS RELEASE: Second GT-only weekend of IMSA WeatherTech season
CORVETTE RACING AT VIR: Ready for an Overall Fight Second GT-only weekend of IMSA WeatherTech season
• Three races remain in GT Le Mans title chase • Garcia, Magnussen look for third VIR win in four years • Gavin, Milner winners of Corvette Racing’s first VIR event
DETROIT (August 20, 2019) – Corvette Racing gets its second shot at overall glory in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this weekend with an annual visit to Virginia International Raceway. The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is one of two GT-only weekends in the IMSA championship and is one Corvette Racing has captured twice.
The 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course is a favorite of all four Corvette Racing drivers, and it’s easy to see why. A successful weekend for the program will add to Corvette Racing’s tally of three victories and five podium finishes since 2012. In addition, Chevrolet is the most successful IMSA manufacturer at VIR in the field with seven total victories.
Each member of the Corvette quartet is a past race-winner. Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen were overall winners in 2016 and 2017 – their most recent victory – and finished second a year ago. Co-drivers in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, Garcia and Magnussen remain in contention for their third straight GT Le Mans (GTLM) title with three rounds remaining. They stand fourth in points and 19 out of first place.
The No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R duo of Oliver Gavin and Virginia’s own Tommy Milner won on Corvette Racing’s VIR debut in 2012, a victory that netted them and Chevrolet the American Le Mans Series GT Championship. The Gavin/Milner pairing showed strong form in the most recent race at Road America with Gavin claiming the GTLM pole position.
The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is August 23-25. Sunday’s two-hour, 40-minute race will air live on NBCSN and the NBC Sports App at 1:30 p.m. ET. Live audio coverage will be available on IMSA Radio, Sirius 138, XM 202 and SiriusXM Online 972.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “VIR is one of our favorite tracks as a team. We’ve won quite a few times there and came up a little short last year. So Corvette Racing really likes the track, and Jan and I have had a lot of success. Traffic won’t be as much of an issue as at other venues with Prototype cars. There are sections at VIR - like the Esses - where if you get caught in traffic can play into the result. If you do it right, you can make up a lot of time. But if you get stuck behind slower cars, you’ll also lose a lot. So it’s important to be smart around there and avoid any contact. We always look forward to going back there. Hopefully we can win there again.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “VIR has been good to us. We need it to be good to us again. We really need a win for this season and the championship. There are some places where the result comes a little easier than at others, and for some reason VIR is that for us. A lap around there is super enjoyable and a big challenge. There are consequences if you mess up, but that doesn’t away from it being such a fantastic circuit. These are the kind I really enjoy. GTLM is so close that you have to go for whatever gap presents itself. For sure, you try to be safe and try not to damage the car so you have something to fight with at the end. But the level of competition is so high that you have to take every shot you can.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “VIR is fantastic and one of the best ones we go to. A GT-only race makes it more intense. It’s a track that’s technical, fast-paced and with a lot of grip. Strategy always plays a role… if you run long in a stint or short, what tire you run and the fuel loads. It’s an intense race that you can never take your eye off. The track is technical and really tough to get it right around a lap. When you do nail it, it’s terrific. It can be difficult to pass in spots around there, but that’s just how the racing goes at VIR. We’re hoping to be able to rekindle some of our past success and get that 100th IMSA win.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s always a fun weekend at VIR for a couple reasons. First off, it’s close to home and I enjoy having family and friends at the track. The circuit is a great one, especially for sports cars. There are great places for overtaking throughout the lap, but a lot of those have a high level of risk. You have to quickly decide whether to chance an overtake or be patient and lose some time. That’s a great recipe for good sports car racing. Corvettes have been strong around VIR in the past and the expectation is to be again this year.”

CORVETTE RACING AT ROAD AMERICA: Pole Position Start for No. 4 Corvette Gavin fastest in GTLM qualifying, Magnussen P5 in chase for eighth Road America win
ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. (Aug. 3, 2019) – Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin will start from pole position of the GT Le Mans field after qualifying for Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Road Race Showcase.
Gavin, in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, was the fastest qualifier Saturday with a lap of 2:00.663 (120.772 mph). It marks the team’s first Road America pole position since 2010. Teammate Jan Magnussen will start fifth in class with a lap of 2:01.085 (120.351 mph) in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette but was less than 0.3 seconds from the front row.
The top five cars in GTLM were within 0.751 seconds. Tom Blomqvist in the No. 25 BMW was the fastest driver in GTLM qualifying, but both BMWs failed post-qualifying inspection to elevate both Gavin and Magnussen.
Corvette Racing will go for its eighth class victory at Road America and first since 2016. The race begins at 1:35 p.m. CT on Sunday.
Saturday’s GTLM qualifying session was delayed 15 minutes due to severe weather in the area. Both Corvettes were first out once the track went green with the track mostly dry. The only damp part of the circuit was the final corner, and both Corvettes went off track on their opening laps. Both Gavin and Magnussen recovered without damage. Each was happy with the overall balance of their Corvettes and expressed high optimism for Sunday’s two-hour, 40-minute race.
Magnussen and Antonio Garcia entered Road America third in GTLM points and well within striking distance for a third consecutive Drivers Championship. Naturally, their first victory together at Road America couldn’t come at a better time than Sunday. Gavin and Tommy Milner, back after missing two races with an injured left hand, were the most recent winners for Corvette Racing in Elkhart Lake with a victory in 2016.
Both Corvettes finished on the class podium a year ago with Gavin and Milner finishing second, just ahead of their teammates.
The IMSA Road Race Showcase at Road America is August 2-4. It will be streamed live on the NBC Sports App and NBCSports.com at 2:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 4 and aired later Sunday on NBC Sports Network at 6 p.m. ET. Live audio coverage will be available on IMSA Radio, Sirius 138, XM 202 and SiriusXM Online 972.
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM POLE-WINNER: “It was a good session for us. We found some speed in the car. I think it’s most probably the best the track has ever been here for our car in terms of the grip level. That little bit of rain and the way the conditions changed. It was super fast. And then it looked like the BMW was just that tick quicker, but now they got bumped. This day just keeps getting better and let’s hope this just continues on and into a great race tomorrow. Leading from the front, that’s the best place to start, so I will definitely take that. I’m very pleased for the guys. It has been a tough year particularly for the 4 Corvette, but this is a great little reward for all those guys, all their hard work. Keep digging. Chuck (Houghton, No. 4 Corvette engineer) and all the guys on the engineering staff gave me fantastic car in qualifying. We’ll take it and we’ll be very happy to start on the pole tomorrow for the big race.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED FIFTH IN GTLM: “It was not an easy session with it raining a little bit. There was a big moment in Turn 14 to stop the first timed lap because that corner was properly wet and you can't see it; there is a change of tarmac there and the fresh tarmac is darker. So there was nothing that pointed to it being wetter than any place else. A big save… I got close to the wall, but I gathered it back up and got back in the game. It could have been way worse. “The car was good. I am impressed with how fast the track is… how much faster we could go than any time previously. I think I wasn't prepared for how much traction grip there was. I knew the car was good, but I kept kicking myself every time. I thought I got on the the throttle early, early but I just never got full potential out of it. The car is definitely better than what we managed right now. We didn't make the best of it. Plus Turn 14 kind of embedded itself a little bit. Even though it was probably full dry at the end, it was hard trust 100 percent because it came out of nowhere. There was spray and then we went off. So that was hard to let go of. But the field is super close. We had a good long run in practice yesterday so hopefully that will come in handy tomorrow.”

A return to site of Corvette Racing’s 100th program victory
CORVETTE RACING AT LIME ROCK: Getting Back on Track A return to site of Corvette Racing’s 100th program victory
• Garcia, Magnussen seek to regain ground in GTLM points chase • Fässler to sub for Milner in No. 4 Corvette alongside Gavin • Corvette Racing leads all IMSA entrants with five Lime Rock victories
DETROIT (July 16, 2019) – The longest-running program in IMSA history visits the shortest venue on the calendar this weekend as Corvette Racing heads to Lime Rock Park with the rest of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The Northeast Grand Prix, set for 3:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, is a GT-only affair at the 1.474-mile, seven-turn road course in northwestern Connecticut. Corvette Racing is hoping that a return to Lime Rock – a place where it has won five times in 12 tries – will set the course right after an uncharacteristic showing two weeks ago at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
A victory this weekend in the two-hour, 40-minute race would bring things full circle for Corvette Racing. A win would be No. 100 in IMSA competition for the program… three years after Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner scored Corvette Racing’s 100th all-time victory at Lime Rock in 2016.
Hitting the fast-forward button to this week sees Milner out for the second consecutive race with an injured left hand. As a result, Marcel Fässler will sub in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R alongside Gavin. Fässler will make his first career start at Lime Rock while Gavin is tied for most victories by an IMSA driver at the circuit with four.
In the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette, Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen hope to regain ground in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) Drivers Championship in their search for a third title. The pairing sit 11 points out of first place but are coming to an event where they have fared well. Garcia and Magnussen finished second in 2012, 2013, 2016 and a year ago.
Garcia qualified on pole position in the No. 3 Corvette as the duo just missed on victory but still went on to win their second straight GTLM title.
The Northeast Grand Prix from Lime Rock Park begins at 3:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 20. Live coverage will be available on the NBC Sports App and IMSA Radio, via IMSA.com. NBC Sports Network will air the race beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Lime Rock has turned into an important race for Jan and me. We need to recover from the result in Canada and get back in the championship. I believe we know as a team what our issues were and everyone has worked to correct those. We know Lime Rock is a place where anything can happen so let’s see. We have been close to winning at Lime Rock in the 3 Corvette a lot of times - four times as runner-up. So hopefully we are due for that win.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Lime Rock is quite a difficult challenge. It’s a short-track sports car race with typically a lot contact… almost like touring cars. It’s a style of racing I enjoy. You can make something happen for yourself at this track more than most others, and that’s what we’ll look to do. If we ever needed a win in the No. 3 Corvette, it’s this week. That’s always the end goal but we want it a little more given the points situation. We need a good weekend.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’ve been fortunate to win many times at Lime Rock with Corvette Racing. The lasting one will always be 2016 and the 100th win for our team. It was a day everything fell into place perfectly for us. We’d give a lot for that to happen again this weekend. This will be Marcel’s first race at Lime Rock and I know he will be well-prepared. Hopefully this is a weekend where our luck takes a turn for the better.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Lime Rock is another track where I haven’t raced before. It’s a different type track than any other at which I’ve competed. Things will happen very quickly on such a short lap. So this will be another new challenge. It was beneficial to be with the team in Canada and have the experience in a high-downforce configuration. Hopefully Olly and I can bring back a good result for the hard work of the Corvette Racing team.”
CORVETTE RACING AT LIME ROCK PARK: By the Numbers • 1: As in one team, one manufacturer and one model of car for 20 years: Corvette Racing, Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Corvette. • 3: Generations of Corvette Racing entries at Lime Rock since 2004 – Corvette C5-R (2004), Corvette C6.R (2005-13) and Corvette C7.R (2016-current). • 4: Wins at Lime Rock for Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin – tied for the most of any driver entered in the Northeast Grand Prix. • 5: Number of victories at Lime Rock for Corvette Racing, the most of any entrant in IMSA. • 5: Number of drivers who have won races at Lime Rock for Corvette Racing – Oliver Gavin (four), Olivier Beretta (three), Jan Magnussen (two), and Johnny O’Connell and Tommy Milner (one each). • 5: Pole positions at Lime Rock for Corvette Racing, the most of any entrant in IMSA. Antonio Garcia (2018) is the most recent. • 7: Fastest race laps for Corvette Racing drivers at Lime Rock. Oliver Gavin leads with three with Antonio Garcia (2016) being the most recent. • 8: As in Chevrolet’s small-block V8. More than 100 million units have been sold worldwide and is the most successful engine in American motorsports. • 12: Manufacturer Championships for Chevrolet and Corvette Racing since 2001. • 12: Victories for Chevrolet at Lime Rock – second among all manufacturers. • 16: Number of GT Le Mans wins in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Corvette Racing since the start of 2014. That’s the most of any manufacturer and team in GTLM. • 21: Tracks at which Corvette Racing has won races – Baltimore, COTA, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park/Mosport, Daytona, Detroit, Houston, Laguna Seca, Le Mans, Lime Rock, Long Beach, Miami, Mid-Ohio, Portland, Road America, Road Atlanta, Sebring, Sonoma, St. Petersburg, Texas, Trois Rivieres and Utah. • 28: Number of drivers for Corvette Racing since 1999. • 100: As in Corvette Racing’s 100th program victory at Lime Rock Park in 2016. • 107: Victories worldwide for Corvette Racing – 99 in North America and eight at Le Mans. • 221: Event starts by Corvette Racing since 1999. • 5,621.90: Number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing in its 12 previous trips to Lime Rock. That represents 3,749 laps and approximately 51 trips from the Empire State Building in New York City to the track. • 294,695.69: Total number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing since its inception. Press Release: The pair of Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs finished seventh and eighth in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class
CORVETTE RACING IN CANADA: Tough Day but Corvettes Back in One Piece
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada (July 7, 2019) – Corvette Racing arrived at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park hoping one of its most successful tracks would result in some badly needed winning momentum. Unfortunately, the team came up short in the effort for its 12th class victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday.
The pair of Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs finished seventh and eighth in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix. The No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen led Corvette Racing’s effort and remained in contention for their third straight GTLM Drivers’ Championship.
Oliver Gavin and Marcel Fässler were right behind in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R. It was the first race for Fässler at CTMP, and finishing the race was a positive step forward. The No. 4 Corvette team suffered a crash six hours in at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and on the opening lap of last week’s race at Watkins Glen.
The start looked promising, especially for the No. 3 Corvette. Magnussen picked up a spot at the start but the handling on the Corvettes went away quickly. Nevertheless, the Corvette Racing crews and engineers kept plugging away to try and optimize the setup on the two C7.Rs for the end of the race.
Two late caution periods tightened up the field but traffic impeded both Corvettes to the end.
The next event for Corvette Racing is the Northeast Grand Prix from Lime Rock Park on July 19-20.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SEVENTH IN GTLM: "That was not the race we wanted. We struggled with pace a lot and couldn’t make the car work. I’m not sure why yet but it is something we need to fix for Lime Rock. We will need a good result there to stay in the championship. But today was very disappointing. It’s one of the most frustrating weekends we have had in a long time. But we are confident that Corvette Racing can bounce back.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SEVENTH IN GTLM: “Obviously I’m very disappointed with the result today. It’s pretty clear we missed something on the setup. At no point in the race did we have the pace to do anything with the rest of the field. We have to go home, think about this and come up with a solution for Lime Rock. This was a pretty big hit in the championship for us, unfortunately. We have some ground to make up.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “Today was tough for both cars at Corvette Racing. It was good we could actually finish a race; that’s been a really tough thing for us to do in the last two races. But it was very tough today. We were working away with the Corvette throughout the race to make it better. But we ultimately lacking pace. Both cars seemed to be struggling with the same thing. We’ll go back, analyze and assess to see where we can make it right for Lime Rock.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: "Our expectations were certainly higher than the results show. We are certainly not-so-happy with where we finished. It’s disappointing because after (Friday afternoon’s) practice both cars were one-two. We had quite a good pace after all the practice sessions so we were wondering why we weren't able to have that pace in the race. I caught bad traffic and lost a little bit to the front-runners, but caught up again and tried to stay close to them which we did until the pit stop. Unfortunately we lost a little bit because the lap belt got caught in the seat during the driver change so we lost a little time. But truthfully it didn't change the results much. It was a sad weekend for us. The upside for us is we have a car that is in one piece. But we are racers; we want more than a car in one piece...we want results.”
PRESS RELEASE: Corvette Racing will look to charge through the field Sunday following qualifying
CORVETTE RACING IN CANADA: Setting Up for Try at CTMP Win No. 12
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada (July 6, 2019) – Corvette Racing will look to charge through the field Sunday following qualifying for the Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Doing so would write another remarkable chapter in Corvette Racing lore and secure a 12th class victory at the high-speed track east of Toronto.
Jan Magnussen, teaming with Antonio Garcia paced the program’s effort in qualifying with a lap of 1:14.295 (119.151 mph) in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. The time placed Magnussen seventh in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship’s GT Le Mans (GTLM) category.
Teammate Marcel Fässler wasn’t far behind at 1:14.769 (118.396 mph) in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette. He is driving with Oliver Gavin in place of Tommy Milner, who injured his left hand in an opening-lap incident last weekend at Watkins Glen.
It’s been a challenging last month for Corvette Racing. The team’s annual trek to the 24 Hours of Le Mans ended in heartbreak with separate incidents for the two Corvettes, most notably a heavy incident for Fässler that required a new chassis for the No. 4 side of the team. It didn’t get any better at Watkins Glen when Milner was hit and the crash by and large destroying the just-rebuilt Corvette.
There is reason for optimism, however. No team in the IMSA paddock boasts more races, miles or victories at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park than Corvette Racing. Another solid result at CTMP would be a boon for the program, especially with Magnussen and Garcia only one point out of the GTLM Drivers Championship lead. They have four podium finishes in the last five races at CTMP and are on a streak of four consecutive podiums this season.
The Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix presented by Acura begins at 1:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 7. It will air live on NBC beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Live audio coverage of Sunday’s warmup and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED SEVENTH IN GTLM: “I’m a bit disappointed in how things turned out. I’m not quite sure why we had a balance shift, and I wasn’t able to do anything with it in qualifying. It’s a real shame. We need to see what it was and why it happened.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “First, thanks to the team for giving the opportunity to qualify today. It wasn’t not easy to jump in and do qualifying at a track where I don’t have much experience and still have to learn a bit. I was quite sure I could improve in my qualifying run. My fastest lap felt OK, but I was disappointed in my lap time at the end. I was expecting a little bit more. We have to have a look and see what was actually different from the sessions before. For sure the race is long and we’ll see what we have to do for tomorrow.”
PRESS RELEASE: Corvette Racing going for 12th class victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
CORVETTE RACING IN CANADA: Familiar Ground for GTLM Contenders Corvette Racing going for 12th class victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
• Twentieth consecutive appearance for Corvette Racing at CTMP • Garcia, Magnussen one point out of GT Le Mans title lead • Gavin, Fässler to pilot rebuilt No. 4 Corvette C7.R
DETROIT (July 3, 2019) – It’s a quick turnaround for Corvette Racing as it heads north of the border following an up-and-down weekend at Watkins Glen International. For the 20th consecutive year, Corvette Racing will contest an event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship prepares for the series’ only stop in Canada.
The GT Le Mans (GTLM) points race is in full swing ahead of the category’s sixth race of the year, which marks the midpoint of this year’s championship. The 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course is one of Corvette Racing’s most successful venues with 11 class victories.
Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen, teammates in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, have solid momentum heading to CTMP. The 2014 GTLM race-winners are a run of four consecutive podium finishes in their search for a third consecutive GTLM Drivers’ championship.
A runner-up finish last weekend at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen vaulted them to a tie for second in points, although they are more than eager for their first victory since 2017.
On the flip side, Oliver Gavin will drive the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R with CTMP debutant Marcel Fässler. One of the team’s endurance drivers, Fässler fills in for Tommy Milner, who suffered an injured hand in an opening-lap crash at The Glen.
The incident also forced the team to rebuild the No. 4 Corvette for the second time in three weeks. Following Fässler’s heavy crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Corvette Racing was forced to switch to a different C7.R chassis for Watkins Glen. Milner had qualified third before being hit from an overtaking car on the third turn of the race. It caused substantial damage but the Corvette Racing team completed all repairs Monday ahead of the trip to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Gavin last won at CTMP in 2013 with Milner and is a four-time winner at the track.
The Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix presented by Acura begins at 1:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 7. It will air live on NBC beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Live audio coverage of practices, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: "We all feel badly about Tommy. The amount of bad luck for the No. 4 team is unbelievable. Jan and I came close again to finally winning another race at Watkins Glen. The points and podiums are good but we more and more want to breakthrough and be on the top step. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park should give us another good chance as Corvette Racing has won a lot of races there. It's a track that I think everyone likes with big risks and a lot of speed. It's one of the best classic tracks that I've ever raced on. CTMP has been good to Corvette in the past and we hope it is again this time."
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:“It’s terrible about Tommy. I hope he’s able to get back to driving soon. I love Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. It’s absolutely one of my favorites. It’s so much fun to go around there in a good car… which the Corvette obviously is! It’s so fast. If you have the confidence and car underneath you, a lap around there is one of the most fantastic feelings in the world. Antonio and I are looking forward to going back there and keep building on this championship run that we have going. We still need to get a win pretty soon, but whatever we’re doing seems to work for points.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “First off, I’m gutted for Tommy. We’ve been teammates for nine seasons now and competed together many years before that. It’s unfortunate for him and the team, but we’re at the same time glad we can call on a trusted hand in Marcel to fill in while Tommy heals.
“Canadian Tire Motorsport Park has brought great success to Corvette Racing over the years. We’ve had many victories, and I’ve personally enjoyed success there. It’s a huge, challenging track with the fact that it’s run by Corvette Racing legend Ron Fellows and his family makes it feel like home, really. The track is just fantastic to drive. It’s one of those that has not changed; it’s really old-school, which is really refreshing when you go to lots of other tracks around the world that have been somewhat sanitized. You really have to be on it there. Our Corvettes have suited that track in the past, and we hope we will have a strong chassis there for the weekend. We’ll find out once we get there but it’s usually very close and very tight racing.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I wish my first race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was under different circumstances. We all feel bad for Tommy but I think everyone at Corvette Racing knows we still have a job to do. This track is one I have always wanted to race on. It has a great reputation around the world going back to the Formula One days. I have heard from the other drivers how fast and exciting a lap around CTMP is in the Corvette. I’m looking forward to experiencing that and helping all of Corvette Racing toward what we hope is another GTLM championship.”

Hand injury sidelines Corvette Racing standout for this weekend
CORVETTE RACING IN CANADA: Fässler to Fill In for Milner at CTMP Hand injury sidelines Corvette Racing standout for this weekend
DETROIT (July 2, 2019) – Marcel Fässler will drive for Corvette Racing this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as a fill-in for Tommy Milner. Milner, who regularly drives the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R with Oliver Gavin, suffered an injury to his left hand in a crash on the opening lap Sunday at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
As a result, Fässler will team with Gavin and make his first start at CTMP for the Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix presented by Acura. It also will mark the first time Milner has missed an event for Corvette Racing since joining the program in 2011.
Fässler has been part of Corvette Racing’s endurance lineup for the past four seasons. He teamed with Gavin and Milner for 24-hour races at Daytona, Le Mans and Sebring’s 12-hour enduro. His return to Corvette Racing comes three weeks after his own heavy crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Milner’s status will be re-evaluated ahead of Corvette Racing’s event at Lime Rock Park on July 19-20.
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “My day went from bad to worse Sunday. Additional tests after my initial exam at Watkins Glen showed an injury to my left hand that will prevent me from competing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend. On the advice of doctors, there is too much risk for further damage and it would be best to allow time for it to heal. I look forward to getting back into the car as soon as I'm able. In the meantime, I'm glad we are able to call on Marcel. He always does a great job for the team and we’re all confident he’ll do the same this weekend.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’m very sorry for Tommy’s injury. I’m sure It is a very difficult and frustrating situation for him, and I hope he is back in the Corvette soon. It will be a different experience driving the C7.R around Canadian Tire Motorsport Park than what I am used to at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans. But Corvette Racing is a very close team. We all work well together, so I’m positive the team will do the best job possible helping me get up to speed.”
Press Release: Garcia, Magnussen score fourth straight GT Le Mans podium; No. 4 Corvette out early
CORVETTE RACING AT WATKINS GLEN: Runner-Up Finish for No. 3 Corvette Garcia, Magnussen score fourth straight GT Le Mans podium; No. 4 Corvette out early
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 30, 2019) – Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen finished on the podium for the fourth consecutive race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GT Le Mans (GTLM) class Sunday with a runner-up finish in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
The No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R finished just 0.452 seconds behind the class-winning Porsche, and the Garcia/Magnussen duo claimed their third straight podium at Watkins Glen International. The day included an added bonus: Garcia and Magnussen are a single point of the GTLM Drivers’ Championship as they seek their third consecutive title.
The news on the other side of the Corvette Racing garage wasn’t as good. Tommy Milner suffered contact and crashed on the opening lap in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R, ending the day for him and teammate Oliver Gavin.
The damage to the Corvette was extensive but the team will have the No. 4 entry repaired for this week’s Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The Corvette Racing crew faced a similar rush job after a heavy crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans forced the team to switch chassis for the No. 4 Corvette ahead of Watkins Glen.
Down to one entry, the Corvette Racing team soldiered on and very nearly pulled off a storybook ending. Garcia and Magnussen led Sunday’s race four times but a call to pit ahead of a full-course yellow that never came seemingly put the No. 3 Corvette on the back foot to the end.
Magnussen, making his 150th start for Corvette Racing, drove the middle three stints and gave the Corvette back to Garcia for the final two hours and 40 minutes. A final full-course yellow set the stage for the late-race charge from seventh to very nearly a long-awaited victory.
There is little time to rest. Corvette Racing’s next event is the Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix on Sunday, July 7 from Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SECOND IN GTLM: “I can’t be super, super happy about the result. I think we had this race. We have such a strong field. We took one part of the strategy away thinking there would be a yellow when one didn’t come. The race was split then between half of the field and us. We could gain back some spots but when we restarted after the last yellow, we didn’t have track position. To be sixth or seventh in this field and try to win with an hour to go is tough. At the end of the day, we didn’t make it. It was a good call to top off the car on the last yellow to give me a chance to jump both Porsches at the end, but the big thing is that the winning Porsche was too far up the road. I don’t know what’s worse… ending up six or seven seconds off or three-tenths off. I think it hurts more to finish so close. But it’s good points and we’ll take that.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SECOND IN GTLM: "We had a shot at it today, but we are just missing that last little bit. I am happy for the team and happy for the points. But it’s been awhile since our last win. We keep getting so close but it is getting hard to come up with excuses. We just need to go out there and do it… get that win. I am very happy with how the whole team performed. We could not have done much better. So we will just go on to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, another fantastic track, and see if we can get a win there.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s not a cliché, it’s how I feel… it’s disappointing and unnecessary. It was the first lap of the race and going side-by-side which should have been and is possible. Hindsight is 20-20. Knowing the Porsche didn’t check up enough to allow us to go two-wide… he said he gave some consideration but it wasn’t enough. I’d love to say we could rewind it, I’d give up the position and we’re still racing. And if he had given me a little more room than we’re also still racing, too. It’s these split-second decisions we have to make. Unfortunately I got penalized for someone’s small mistake - and that’s what it was: a small mistake that ended up a big problem for us. A big thanks again to Corvette for building such a strong car. But I feel bad for our Corvette Racing guys. We were here and ready to go racing, but we’ve had some really bad luck the last couple months. I feel bad they have to put in more hard work and a lot of hours to get the car ready for Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. But that’s our focus.”
Garcia sets class record, Milner third in GT Le Mans qualifying at The Glen
CORVETTE RACING AT WATKINS GLEN: Pole, Second Row Start for Corvette C7.Rs Garcia sets class record, Milner third in GT Le Mans qualifying at The Glen
WATKINS GLEN, NY (June 29, 2019) – Corvette Racing’s return from the 24 Hours of Le Mans took an overwhelmingly positive turn Saturday as Antonio Garcia scored a class pole position and teammate Tommy Milner qualified third Saturday ahead of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Garcia, driving the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R with Jan Magnussen, set a track record in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category with a lap of 1:40.799 (121.429 mph) that bettered the previous mark by more than a half-second. The 2014 GTLM Watkins Glen winner with Magnussen, Garcia was 0.317 seconds clear of the field Saturday. They enter Sunday second in the GTLM Drivers’ Championship.
Teammate Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R qualified third in class at 1:41.291 (120.839 mph). It puts the two bright yellow Corvettes lined up one behind the other on Sunday’s grid.
The Sahlen’s Six Hours marks Corvette Racing’s first event in IMSA following the 24 Hours of Le Mans two weeks ago. It was a bittersweet race with both Corvettes showing race-winning pace but ultimately getting the worst of the luck with two crashes that took away any hopes of a victory of podium.
The Gavin/Milner Corvette is a different car than they drove at Le Mans following Marcel Fässler’s heavy crash six hours in. This weekend’s No. 4 Corvette is the chassis they drove to the 2016 IMSA GTLM Championship and four victories.
The bad luck from Le Mans struck the No. 3 Corvette on Friday with a precautionary engine change during the first Watkins Glen practice. The Corvette Racing crew completed the work in plenty of time for the day’s second practice, and the drivers repaid the efforts with a banner day Saturday.
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen begins at 9:45 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 30. It will air live on the NBC Sports app beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET with same-day coverage on NBC Sports Network at 7 p.m. ET. Live audio coverage of practices, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R - GTLM POLE-WINNER: "You always have to be careful with Richard (Westbrook, second-quickest qualifier) because he is always very, very fast. Kyle (Millay, No. 3 Corvette race engineer) did a really good job of telling me what Richard was doing and that gave me an opportunity to cool down so I could go again. So I had more to give as I showed on the last lap. I am happy for Corvette and Chevrolet. And finally we have something which is good for tomorrow and we can turn it around and start winning races.” (On engine change after Friday first practice): "It was very tough to lose an engine in first practice, but that is why we have the other Corvette. The No. 4 car did a fantastic job of doing all the work that is supposed to be divided between both cars. All the work they've done we put in our car and everything seems to be working as you saw. It is always a team effort and I'm very happy with how the car behaved today and I hope this is a good start for tomorrow."
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED THIRD IN GTLM: “This was a great qualifying for the team. I’m pretty amazed at what this team can do coming off a week-and-a-half break from Le Mans – really less than that for the crew guys and engineers. To go P1 and P3 is awesome for the whole group, and also for the No. 4 Corvette guys having to prep a car that sort of wasn't set up for GTLM. To get that going and go P3 is awesome. For sure I’m happy with the effort from the team and the car. As always we have a bit of work to do, but certainly third place is a great place to start the race tomorrow."

Press Release: Team rejoins fight for fourth consecutive GT Le Mans title at The Glen
CORVETTE RACING AT WATKINS GLEN: Coming Back to America Team rejoins fight for fourth consecutive GT Le Mans title at The Glen
• Six Hours of The Glen follows heartbreaking 24 Hours of Le Mans • Garcia, Magnussen 2014 GTLM winners at The Glen • Gavin, Milner look to mount points push after hard luck first half of 2019
DETROIT (June 25, 2019) – Corvette Racing returns to home soil this weekend with aims of continuing its championship push in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and putting behind the agonizing heartbreak from the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen marks Corvette Racing’s resumption of the GT Le Mans (GTLM) title chase, the last event in the U.S. coming in early May at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The Glen – at 3.4 miles with 11 turns – is the first of five events in a nine-week span for the Corvette program and its pair of Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs.
Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen, winners together at Watkins Glen in 2014, return to IMSA competition second in GTLM points on the strength of consecutive podium finishes at Sebring, Long Beach and Mid-Ohio. It is the same formula they used to win the 2018 GTLM title – their second in a row – and part of their podium streak included a runner-up finish at The Glen.
Garcia and Magnussen – who will make his 150th start with Corvette Racing at The Glen – will drive the same Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R that they shared at Le Mans with Mike Rockenfeller. The trio came within three hours of winning the GTE Pro category, having it all go wrong with bad luck during a safety car period and a subsequent crash that eventually relegated the Corvette to a ninth-place finish.
On the flip side, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will race at Watkins Glen in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R but it will be a different chassis than what they used at Le Mans and in the first part of the IMSA season. A heavy crash in the sixth hour at Le Mans heavily damaged their car, which they shared with Marcel Fässler.
As a result, the Corvette Racing crew has been forced to prepare its third C7.R chassis – the same one that raced earlier this year in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 1,000-mile race at Sebring – for Gavin and Milner. It’s yet another challenge for the team with a short turn-around time to get from Le Mans back to the United States and both cars prepped and ready… all within the span of a few days.
3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The challenge (of going from Le Mans to Watkins Glen) is for the team, I have to say. To turn around those two Corvettes and be ready to 100 percent in 10 days is the biggest challenge. For us drivers to compete at Le Mans and Watkins Glen is not such a big difference. All the pressure is on the team and the crew. As we’ve proven in years past, we’ve been able to win Le Mans and The Glen. I think the transition back to IMSA rules is easier. Going back home to go racing is like riding a bicycle. Everyone knows what to do. If everything is ready, changing the mindset is easy. I’m really looking forward to this race because it’s one of the best tracks on the calendar. We’re going through a period of Le Mans, Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park… it’s a very nice run of three tracks in a row.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We’re in good shape in the GTLM Championship – P2 at the moment. We’re looking for a win but another championship would be nice. That is the main focus, but it has been awhile since our last win. We were hoping it would come at Le Mans but it wasn’t in the cards. We’ll have to wait and go for another one at Watkins Glen.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We’re going from a track where you are effectively running the lightest on downforce at Le Mans to most probably one of the tracks that we run – if you can – the heaviest downforce. At Watkins Glen it’s all about building your speed and momentum to carry it through the lap. There’s a ton of grip out there and a lot of high-speed cornering at Watkins Glen. It’s quite different than Le Mans. It clicks you back into the IMSA season. It’s usually our biggest crowd at the Corvette Corral and always get a fantastic amount of support there. We get such a buzz from seeing everyone there and seeing all their cars – from C1 all the way up to C7. As a racetrack, it is a huge challenge – six hours for two drivers and one of the physically toughest we do all year."
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “For us as drivers, coming back from Le Mans going straight in to one of our biggest races of the year in IMSA is a challenge. We always say the Monday after Le Mans is when we start thinking about next year’s race, but we also understand that we still have half of the WeatherTech Championship to go. We’re all mindful of that and the challenges it presents. When you consider that you have a rough Le Mans – and we did this year – you go back to the U.S. with a renewed amount of eagerness to right the wrongs of what may have happened at Le Mans. It’s the spirit of this team to make each event count.”

PRESS RELEASE: The No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller finished ninth in the GTE Pro category
CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: From Hopes to Heartbreak
LE MANS, France (June 16, 2019) – Corvette Racing’s hopes for a magical victory in its 20th straight appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans didn’t come to pass, but the effort of the program was never stronger than what the team displayed Saturday and Sunday in the world’s biggest endurance race.
The No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller finished ninth in the GTE Pro category on a day where the trio was firmly in contention for the first 20 hours. Three unlucky safety car periods and an untimely late trip to the garage for repairs following a spin put a dent in the plans for a ninth class victory in 20 years.
Le Mans struck hard at both Corvette Racing entries. The No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R retired following a heavy crash for Marcel Fässler near the six-hour mark. The incident happened in the lightning quick Porsche Curves toward the end of the lap. Fässler – driving with Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner – was hit from behind after making a pass on a slower car with the impact sending the Corvette hard into the wall on driver’s right.
The damage was too extensive to repair and return the car to the race. Fässler was evaluated at the track medical center and was sent to a local hospital for a CT scan, which came back normal.
The No. 64 Corvette was up and down the order early with Gavin climbing from 11th at the start to fourth in class during his opening two stints. Debris on his tires made it challenging for him to maintain his early pace but he and Milner had relatively calm stints before handing over to Fässler, who was matching the pace of his teammates before in incident.
The No. 63 led early and often. Garcia began the race from the third position but needed less than 20 minutes to move to the point in a frantic start.
All three drivers of the No. 63 Corvette took turns in the lead early. The first safety car period of the race during the sixth hour brought the top nine GTE Pro entries to within 15 seconds of each other at the six-hour mark. Another safety car near the 10 hours running split the two lead cars from the rest of the GTE Pro field, effectively taking what had been a nine-car battle down to two with the Corvette part of the second group.
The early-morning period saw the leading GTE Pro entry run into trouble, allowing the remaining Corvette – which had chipped away on the lead pack for a number of hours – to move back into contention. By the 16-hour mark, the C7.R had moved back into the lead and a strategic game of chess developed between the No. 63 Corvette and the eventual winning Ferrari.
The momentum seemed like it was swinging permanently toward the side of the Corvette when disaster struck with three-and-a-half hours to go. Rockenfeller pitted for fuel, tires and a driver change to Magnussen during a safety car period. The pit stop was excellent – as they had been all race – but the pit exit was closed, which once again prevented the Corvette from catching the safety car queue that included the GTE Pro leader.
Once under way, Magnussen spun late in the lap at the Porsche Curves on cold tires and contacted the outside wall with the front-left of the Corvette. The crew repaired the suspension on that corner of the Corvette, losing just six minutes but two costly laps. A final late-race visit to the garage thwarted any hopes of gaining additional positions.
There is little rest for Corvette Racing with the team returning to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition in two weeks at Watkins Glen International for the Sahlen’s Six Hours at The Glen.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was super tough all race, especially for being all the way up at the front for 21 hours. The early safety car around five hours really put us down, and I got pretty upset about that. For me, I thought the race was lost but you never know at Le Mans. A few more stints in and we were back in the lead. It’s a shame that we didn’t put it together all the way to the end because I think everyone here deserved to win. The team made a fantastic effort. The preparation was really good, and we proved that to every other team out there - the preparation of the cars, the pit stops, the brake changes and the way we could go for a win instead of waiting for the race to come to us. I felt like we had everyone afraid of us. Most of the teams at Le Mans probably feel that we had the car to beat, and I think that’s right. But Ferrari did a perfect run and they won. All we can do is congratulate them. Then we will come back and win it.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Up until it all went wrong, we did the best we could and that put us in front. The guys did a fantastic job all race - the crew, the engineers and the drivers… everybody. But the safety car came out there late, we had to pit and effectively that took the win away. P2 was in the cards; that’s not what we came here for but for sure we would have taken that with the win not being on the table any longer. Unfortunately I clipped a curb on cold tires and hit the wall. I can’t begin to describe how horrible I feel for the guys and all the hard work they have put in for the past year. We had the car in front and a mistake like that takes it all away. I don’t know how to apologize for that but hopefully I can make it up to them someway.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Thanks to Corvette Racing for giving me the opportunity to race here at Le Mans again. I always love it even though as we saw this weekend it can be one of the toughest races in the world in that you can be a bit unfortunate. We had a really good car… the Corvette was running super nice, especially at the end of the race. The track and everything evolved in the right direction; when it rubbered in and our car came alive… I think we had everything to fight for victory, but obviously the rules with these safety cars are a bit unfair. We’ve known this since years past and it has been proved it is not the good way of doing it. I think we need to think about it, but that is obviously not our job.
“Again, the car was prepared well and I always enjoy it to race here with Corvette Racing. Personally I was really happy to drive the car. I felt confident at the wheel, I felt I could get the most performance out of the car and really push hard and fight for it. So personally I was super happy with my own performance, but obviously the results are not what we wanted. Both cars were super unlucky… our sister car and Jan on our car, but that’s racing you know. We always push to the limit and sometimes things go wrong. And this also is something special within the Corvette team: there is no bad word about anything. And I’ve seen it different in my career, I can tell you. Here, from top to bottom, they all work together and they consider it a sport. It’s racing, you try hard, and you win and you lose together. And this is what you feel at Corvette, and this is a good feeling for a driver. Because one day you make a mistake and it’s not nice if people drag you down when they should say, ‘Hey, it happens. we’ve won so much together and sometimes things go wrong,’ which for me again shows I’m in the right team here and I hope we’ll have some more opportunities in the future to win this together.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “This has without a doubt been a tough Le Mans 24 Hours for Corvette Racing. On the 64 Corvette side, we had a promising start with good pace. We got ourselves up to fourth place, which ended up being the high-water mark as it turns out. Some little bits and pieces didn’t go our way but the race got reset with a safety car, and we were looking good again. But it wasn’t to be. Marcel had the incident with the GTE Am car… it was such a big hit. We’re all so happy he’s been able to walk away. It’s a testament to the work that Corvette Racing and Chevrolet have done on the C7.R - our driver cell, the impact structure. Those all really helped protect Marcel. Then it was all eyes on the 63 Corvette and it was looking so well for so long. This race can bite you so hard sometimes and it can be tough to take. Everyone at Corvette Racing put so much into this for months and months. It’s very special but it does take a lot of preparation. When you that chance of winning taken away, that’s really hard for the guys to take. They worked so, so hard over the last few months. We can be proud of what we achieved over this race but unfortunately we weren’t standing on the top step of the podium."
”TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It definitely was not the 24 Hours that we were hoping for. We can all be super proud of all the efforts from everyone at Corvette Racing. We had two fast, reliable Corvettes - all ingredients that you need for a good race. Unfortunately what ends up being the most important piece - the luck - … we didn’t have that today. It’s a cliche but that’s racing. Everyone is pushing at 100 percent, and when it is this close and the competition is this fierce, the margin for error is razor-thin. It’s unfortunate to have had our race end early. We can be proud of the effort of this whole team. We’re all proud to drive for Corvette Racing and Team Chevy. “We’re happy that Marcel is OK, and that’s one of the reasons I’m proud to drive these cars like we do. We know things happen sometimes but we know we are safe. I feel bad for the 63 team too. They showed how competitive we can be with a seven-year old car. It’s just too bad that today was not Corvette Racing’s day.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was a tough weekend for us. It definitely was not what we were hoping for. It was an early end to our day. Everyone did a double stint, and I was on my last lap before I was to hand off to Olly. Unfortunately I got hit by a GTE Am driver that took me out and I hit the barrier quite hard. For us the race was over. I’m happy Corvette is the safest GT car we have in the field. Every system worked well and I have no issues… feeling well even though the impact was hard. I’m happy I’m OK but on the other hand I am sad because we were taken out of the race. For sure we wanted to achieve a good result on Corvette’s 20th year at Le Mans. For sure that’s kind of racing but it’s still sad for the team that all the preparation we did ended all of a sudden. It is difficult to take.”
PRESS RELEASE: No. 63 Corvette still in the fight following No. 64 C7.R retirement
CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: Halfway Report No. 63 Corvette still in the fight following No. 64 C7.R retirement
LE MANS, France (June 16, 2019) – Corvette Racing reached half distance of its 20th appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans early Sunday with one of its Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs firmly entrenched in the battle for GTE Pro honors.
The No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller ran fifth at the 12-hour mark with Rockenfeller just finishing a double-stint. The practice of having the three drivers stay in the car for two fuel stops at a time was the prevailing strategy for Corvette Racing, which is shooting for its ninth Le Mans class victory.
Unfortunately, the No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R isn’t part of the fight following a heavy crash for Marcel Fässler near the six-hour mark. The incident happened in the lightning quick Porsche Curves toward the end of the lap. Fässler – driving with Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner – was hit from behind after making a pass on a slower car with the impact sending the Corvette hard into the wall on driver’s right.
The damage was too extensive to repair, and Corvette Racing was forced to retire the car. Fässler was evaluated at the track medical center and was sent to a local hospital for a CT scan, which came back negative.
Early in the race, the No. 63 Corvette led early and often.
The No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette was up and down the order early with Gavin climbing from 11tth at the start to fourth in class during his opening two stints. Debris on his tires made it challenging for him to maintain his early pace but he and Milner had relatively calm stints before handing over to Fässler, who was matching the pace of his teammates before the incident.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “There was a lot of uncertainty at the start. We were all looking at each other not knowing who would be fast and who would be slow. So we did like we did in qualifying and just settled in. Everybody seemed to be on a good pace and obviously our car felt pretty good. In the draft I was kind of following everybody but I think I feel more secure and better for myself when I’m running in a higher position rather than depend on the others. I could have stayed behind, but I decided to go ahead and see if I could stay because with the amount of slipstreams you have here it’s easy for the others to overtake you again even if they don’t have the pace. There is no better place to stay than P1!”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The first stint was good, keeping the same distance to the Porsche and opening the gap a bit towards the end, which was nice. The second stint was a little bit more of a handful on the tires. The car started moving around a bit. I think the track isn’t quite ready yet for double-stinting the tires, but we have to do it. I thought we were going to lose everything when I had to come in (early for an emergency five seconds of fuel) under the full-course yellow when the pitlane was closed, but fortunately everybody else was pretty much in the same boat so we didn’t lose anything.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Like last year, unfortunately these safety car rules tear the field apart, which is a shame but the race is not over. Let’s see. Maybe we will get lucky and catch the better safety car next time and the field will be bunched up together because it was a good fight when we were all together. Let’s see where we will end up in the morning. It feels like since it has cooled down or the track has rubbered in that the car is running better and better. This is good, but we just need some luck to come to us."
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was a very interesting first couple of stints. We bounced up and down the order among pretty much all the manufacturers. There definitely were some moves early on there. We were on the move a lot of the time. But it was aggressive… very aggressive. It was very intense racing. In the back of your mind, you’re thinking we have a lot of racing to be done but it was pretty wild now thinking about it. Toward the middle of the second stint, I ran wide a little bit near the end of the lap and got a bunch of junk on the tires. I just couldn’t cleaned up for a bit. It was amazing how many stops I dropped just through that one little thing. That shows the fine line in this category.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “My stints were pretty relaxed. There was some fighting ahead of me during my second stint, but generally those guys were not going crazy. In the first stint, I struggled with understeer but my pace was decent. On the second stint, we decided to double-stint the tires, which was a bit of a struggle. I think we were heading toward a good balance in the car and would have been in good shape.”
Press Release: Ahead of landmark 20th consecutive appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: 20 Years In Their Own Words Ahead of landmark 20th consecutive appearance at the 24 Hours
LE MANS, France (June 13, 2019) – No program in endurance sports car racing can claim a longevity to match Corvette Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Not only is this is the program’s 20th consecutive year at Le Mans, each year has been with Chevrolet and the Corvette brand. The success has been substantial with eight class victories in 19 attempts.
Ahead of this weekend’s 87th running of Le Mans, Corvette Racing leadership and drivers offered their thoughts on this historic milestone.
JIM CAMPBELL, CHEVROLET U.S. VICE PRESIDENT, PERFORMANCE AND MOTORSPORTS: “This is Corvette Racing’s 20th consecutive appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Every single year is an absolute honor to race at Le Mans. We’re proud to have celebrated eight class wins and many podium finishes with Corvette owners and supporters from around the world. The tens of thousands of miles completed at Le Mans continue to help us learn lessons on the track that transfer back to our production vehicles and powertrain systems for the showroom. The Corvette owners’ passion and support of this race program is one of the reasons why we continue to compete at Le Mans each year.”
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Corvette Racing is a huge part of Le Mans. Even though people focus a lot of prototypes, we always have a large group that follows us at the race and around the world on TV and radio. It’s a big honor for them to follow us. “I’ve already been there 15 years, but Corvette Racing has been there a few years longer! I don’t see any other team that has been going to Le Mans for such a long period year after year. Corvette Racing needs Le Mans, but I also believe Le Mans needs Corvette Racing.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I don’t know if sports car racing will see a program like Corvette Racing again. It is unique with how this program has been put together and run for the last 20 years. That’s what makes being part of Corvette Racing so special. None of us knew when we joined the team that we were going to be here this many years for Le Mans. That’s one of the strengths of the program – the continuity in the team. Everyone knows each other so well that we can work to the strengths of everyone on the team. I’d say it’s a huge advantage. It doesn’t mean we will win every race, but we do have the biggest chance to not making mistakes because there are very few unknowns. As a driver, I really like that.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “What stands out to me about Corvette Racing is that it is an American team that comes over every year for 20 years to Le Mans. It shows how important Le Mans is to Corvette Racing, but also Le Mans appreciates the attendance of Corvette Racing as well. This program is committed and has all this experience over the years, still we know it’s a new challenge. The Corvettes always stand out. Even when I was younger and in my container with other teams, you always knew when Corvette would come by! I knew that sound and loved it, and so do all the fans.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Corvette Racing has been very loyal and determined to follow through on our commitment to Le Mans and what it stands for. It means a lot to the brand. Creating that image and sporting identity of racing and winning at Le Mans each year against the other top manufacturers is a huge deal. If we are fortunate to do it again this year, we would come away with nine wins out of 20 years! That’s an amazing average and something to be extremely proud of. Then you think about how many races where we’ve been runner-up. For all the victories we’ve had, there have been some extremely unlucky close calls where we could have two, three or four more. But that’s the nature of Le Mans and why we keep going back. You take up that challenge and fight against the other teams and manufacturers to come away with the spoils. And when you do, it’s the best feeling in the world.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “These 24-hour races are unique in itself. But Le Mans is why Corvette and other teams and manufacturers want to compete and test themselves and their technology. In a lot of ways, this is shaping the trajectory of the Corvette brand itself with lessons learned on the track and improving future generations with what we learn on the racing side at Le Mans. It definitely has had an impact on the Corvette brand and the cars people can buy every day. If there was ever an example of how a manufacturer makes a car better or the sentiment toward your brand, I’d say those manufacturers look at Corvette Racing as the shining example of what can be done.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “This is something very unique. It makes me very proud to be a driver for such a great team. The commitment also shows the value of the success of Corvette Racing at Le Mans. They have won many times and been on the podium many more. It shows the professionalism of the team in the preparation and also not having so much change within the team. This is an important thing to have consistency within the team to improve and be fast. It develops a trust between the drivers and the team. You are confident because you know have the support of the program in good times and bad times. This is something every driver appreciates and I’m very happy and appreciative to be part of Corvette Racing.”
On the 20th anniversary of Corvette Racing's immensely successful participation at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, program manager Doug Fehan returns to the Marshall Pruett Podcast to share stories on the team's inception, first trips to France, the selection process associated with some of its greatest drivers, the unmistakable sound of of the naturally-aspirated Corvette V8 engine, and how the team and 24 Hour event have influenced each other since the yellow supercars competed for the first time in 2000.
Press Release: Corvette program has set standard at 24 Hours for last two decades
CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: 20th Start in Hopes of Ninth Victory Corvette program has set standard at 24 Hours for last two decades
• Corvette Racing seeks ninth class victory in competitive GTE Pro category • Rockenfeller, No. 63 Corvette C7.R quickest in class on Test Day • Six Corvette Racing drivers with 19 combined Le Mans victories
DETROIT (June 10, 2019) – For the 20th straight year, Corvette Racing is set to take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Following a successful run on the Le Mans Test Day last weekend, endurance racing’s premier GT sports car team has put finishing touches on its preparations for a ninth class victory.
Corvette Racing has been a constant at Le Mans the past two decades. It has generated a global following with its successes at Le Mans, fan-friendly approach and roaring V8-powered Corvette race cars. This year’s Le Mans is the sixth for the Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, which has recorded a victory and two other podium finishes in that time.
There’s still plenty of life in the Corvette C7.R, has evidenced by its showing on the June 2 Test Day. Mike Rockenfeller was the fastest GTE Pro driver with the No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R that he shares with full-season teammates Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen. In the No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette, Tommy Milner set the Test Day’s third-quickest time in class; he is driving with Marcel Fässler and full-season teammate Oliver Gavin.
As has been standard practice, Corvette Racing did not concern itself with outright speed and pace on the Test Day. Instead, the team worked toward race setup by concentrating on items like tire compounds and pressure, suspension components and other areas that will insure the two Corvettes will be in the best possible position come Saturday and Sunday.
It’s a formula that has worked for 20 years. Since debuting at Le Mans in 2000, Corvette Racing has scored eight class victories and accumulated nearly 100,000 racing miles at the 24 Hours. Very rarely has the Corvette been quickest over a single lap, a testament to the team’s commitment to the long game at Le Mans.
Corvette Racing also will try to carry over its momentum from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s early-season run to Le Mans. Garcia and Magnussen, winners of the last two GT Le Mans (GTLM) titles, have reeled off three straight podium finishes and sit second in points after four races… a similar to start to their 2018 campaign.
And the GTLM champions before Garcia and Magnussen went back-to-back in 2017-18? That would be Milner and Gavin, who won the Rolex 24 At Daytona in 2016 with Fässler. The Gavin/Milner duo have showed front-running pace at every IMSA race this season but have been snake bit with bad luck, although they did finish third in class at Long Beach.
Le Mans is the final race in the FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season. There is a total of 17 entries from five manufacturers in the GTE Pro category.
The achievements by the collection of six Corvette Racing drivers can’t be matched by any other entrant at Le Mans. The group has combined for 19 victories – an exemplary record at Le Mans:
• Antonio Garcia: Three victories in 13 appearances– 2008, 2009 and 2011; runner-up in 2014; third place in 2017 • Jan Magnussen: Four victories in 20 appearances– 2004-06, 2009; runner-up in 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2014; third place in 2017 • Mike Rockenfeller: Two victories in nine appearances– 2005 and 2010; third place in 2012 • Oliver Gavin: Five victories in 18 appearances – 2002, 2004-06, 2015; runner-up in 2003; third place in 2001 and 2008 • Tommy Milner: Two victories in 10 appearances– 2011 and 2015 • Marcel Fässler:Three victories in 13 appearances– 2011-12 and 2014; runner-up in 2010; third place in 2015
The 24 Hours of Le Mans will air live on the MotorTrend Network with coverage of practice, qualifying and the race on Radio Le Mans.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We’ve not had a win in our Corvette since 2017. It’s been too long. We want to win for sure in IMSA but I’d be more than OK if it happens at Le Mans! It’s also been so long since I’ve won there. We have been close a couple times in the last three or four years. I really want to win it again. Preparation is always a good thing, and doing both the WEC and IMSA races at Sebring was a good step. There were some revelations of how we can execute at Le Mans instead of having to remember everything from a year ago. Everyone is well-prepared. Let’s see if that’s enough. Le Mans is unique. Once you win there, you want to do it again. The feeling of going across the line or when you are on the podium is so intense… it’s one of the best feelings you can ever have. All you want to do is get back up there.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Everyone at Corvette Racing has a lot of experience at Le Mans. But it’s not routine going there. Yes there are things we do year in and year out in terms of how we prepare ourselves and how you plan out the race. The race, the car and the track are always at least a little bit from year to year. The last couple of years we have been very competitive, and I believe that will be the case again this year. We will concentrate on our own plan and trying to execute that the best we can. As we’ve always done at Corvette Racing, we try to stick to our own plan… not worry so much about what everyone else is doing but have faith that our plan is good enough to win. And usually when our plan comes together, we end up coming out on top.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Le Mans is so historical and such an old race with so many big racing moments and heroes. That it isn’t a permanent track is unique. Those are just a few things that make Le Mans special. It is hard to describe. When I first started racing in a professional level, I went to Le Mans when I was 18 to watch the race. I walked the track at night, saw the speed of the cars, glowing brake discs, sparks flying off the cars as the drivers pushed their cars to the limit all the time. That was an impression that I would never forget. From that point on, Le Mans meant so much to me. It still does as I’m back again with Corvette. We all are 100 percent focused on winning. That’s the greatest feeling… to be on the podium with all those people below. I’ve never had that feeling anywhere else in the world.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Le Mans is a unique beast; sometimes Le Mans it’s a beast that’s kind and is on your side, and other times it is absolutely horrible and it’s completely against you. You feel like you’re fighting against it the entire time you’re there. But that’s a reason why it’s such an amazing race. You try to get some influence over the race and shape it. If you can’t do that, then you’re a little bit in the passenger’s seat and waiting for someone to make a mistake. Every year you go there, it’s still quite unknown how you’re going to go because things are so tight in our class. We had a good Test Day and learned a lot. You can take all of those positives together and come up with what we know, what we’ve got and what we all know collectively as drivers and crew how things are going to go. Ultimately, you don’t find out if you’re really in the race with a chance until Saturday afternoon or Saturday evening.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “For the whole of the program, Le Mans is No. 1 on our lists of goals to achieve each year. From Corvette Racing’s side, this is a little bit of a one-off race and unique for us. There is added emphasis on Le Mans. That comes from the race itself – what Le Mans means, its history and its prestige. We get close to that in the U.S. with Sebring, Daytona and Petit Le Mans. Those are massive events that we all want to win. Not to take anything away from those events and successes, but Le Mans has something a little more. That name has a familiarity to it even to people who don’t follow racing. That all translates to everyone’s best effort. Everything is just done that one little notch higher or more intense. That comes with the territory of being at this race. Being at Le Mans each year gives you goosebumps every time.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Preparation for Le Mans has been good. We tested at Road America and course on the Le Mans Test Day. We also went to Charlotte for some work in the Chevrolet simulator. This was a good chance to adapt ourselves again to the Le Mans track. It was important to jump right into that to get up to speed and stay on pace. Corvette Racing has so much experience in preparing a car that needs to be up to battling for a victory at Le Mans because the manufacturer competition will be very tough. I’m really looking forward to this. I have three wins at Le Mans but never in GTE Pro, and this is something I’d like to achieve with Oliver, Tommy and the Corvette Racing team.”
Facts and figures ahead of program's 20th straight Le Mans appearance
CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: By the Numbers
DETROIT (June 6, 2019) – This year’s running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a landmark one for Corvette Racing. It is the 20th consecutive appearance for the program at the famed race dating back to 2000 – the longest current streak for a single entrant. With eight class victories in 19 starts, Corvette Racing is one of the most successful teams in the history of Le Mans. Below is a handful of notes and statistics ahead of this year’s race…
• 1: As in one team, one manufacturer and one model of car for 20 years at Le Mans: Corvette Racing, Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Corvette. • 3: Generations of Corvette Racing entries since 2000 – Corvette C5-R (2000-04), Corvette C6.R (2005-13) and Corvette C7.R (2014-current). • 3: Number of wins for the Corvette C5-R – 2001, 2002, 2004. • 4: Number of wins for the Corvette C6.R – 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011. • 8: As in Chevrolet’s small-block V8. More than 100 million units have been sold worldwide and is the most successful engine in American motorsports. • 8: Class victories for Corvette Racing at Le Mans – all since 2001. • 9: Number of drivers who have won races at Le Mans for Corvette Racing – Olivier Beretta, Ron Fellows, Antonio Garcia, Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen, Tommy Milner, Johnny O’Connell, Scott Pruett and Jordan Taylor. • 12: Manufacturer Championships for Chevrolet and Corvette Racing since 2001. • 16: Number of GT Le Mans wins in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Corvette Racing since the start of 2014. That’s tied for the most among manufacturers and entrants in GTLM. • 19: Number of victories for Corvette Racing’s lineup at Le Mans. Oliver Gavin: 5 Jan Magnussen: 4 Antonio Garcia: 3 Marcel Fässler: 3 Tommy Milner: 2 Mike Rockenfeller: 2 • 21: Number of drivers to compete for Corvette Racing at Le Mans. Oliver Gavin leads with 17 Le Mans starts for the program while Jan Magnussen has 15. • 21: Tracks at which Corvette Racing has won races – Baltimore, COTA, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park/Mosport, Daytona, Detroit, Houston, Laguna Seca, Le Mans, Lime Rock, Long Beach, Miami, Mid-Ohio, Portland, Road America, Road Atlanta, Sebring, Sonoma, St. Petersburg, Texas, Trois Rivieres and Utah. • 107: Victories worldwide for Corvette Racing – 99 in North America and eight at Le Mans. • 218: Event starts by Corvette Racing since 1999. • 95,221.25: Number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing in its 19 previous trips to Le Mans. That represents 11,299 laps… or nearly four full trips around the Earth at its equator. The two Corvettes need to complete 4,778.75 miles to reach the 100,000-mile mark at Le Mans. • 104,671: Approximate pounds of freight sent by Corvette Racing to Le Mans by air and by sea! • 289,913.28: Total number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing since its inception. To put that in perspective Apollo 13 – the longest manned spaceflight in history – covered “just” 248,655 miles.

Press Release: Rockenfeller sets GTE Pro pace, Milner right behind in pair of Corvette C7.Rs
CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: Leaving Test Day Satisfied Rockenfeller sets GTE Pro pace, Milner right behind in pair of Corvette C7.Rs
LE MANS, France (June 2, 2019) – Ahead of its 20th consecutive appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Corvette Racing clicked off eight hours of running on the race's annual Test Day with its pair of Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs. Corvette Racing drivers were first and third in the 17-car GTE Pro category in the only running the Le Mans field will have before official practice and qualifying commence in 10 days.
Mike Rockenfeller was the quickest driver for Corvette Racing during the test session at 3:54.001 (130.240 mph) in the No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R that he will drive with Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen. Perhaps no driver benefitted more from Sunday as Rockenfeller, who missed last year’s Test Day due to a previous commitment.
Teammate Tommy Milner was third-fastest with a lap of 3:54.036 (130.239 mph) in the No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette that he shares with Oliver Gavin and Marcel Fässler.
Rockenfeller led a group of 12 GTE Pro cars within one second of each other, an astounding fact around an 8.4-mile circuit. Le Mans is a mix of permanent race track and public roads, and the Corvette Racing teams spent the entire eight hours tuning and setting up the two Corvette C7.Rs for handling and a solid race package – not necessarily ultimate outright pace.
The pair of Corvettes combined to complete 166 laps and covered more than 1,400 miles. The only issue was a minor mechanical one on the No. 64 Corvette C7.R that cost it a minimal amount of time in the garage. Other than that, the Test Day was fairly routine.
This is a landmark year at Le Mans for Corvette Racing. No team is on record as having made more than 20 consecutive appearances, and the program has won eight times in 19 tries. What’s more, Corvette Racing’s Le Mans record also includes eight runner-up class finishes and nearly 100,000 racing miles completed.
Le Mans is the final race in the FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season. There is a total of 17 entries from five manufacturers in the GTE Pro category.
Each of the six Corvette Racing drivers own exemplary records at Le Mans:
• Antonio Garcia: Three victories in 13 appearances– 2008, 2009 and 2011; runner-up in 2014; third place in 2017 • Jan Magnussen: Four victories in 20 appearances– 2004-06, 2009; runner-up in 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2014; third place in 2017 • Mike Rockenfeller: Two victories in nine appearances– 2005 and 2010; third place in 2012 • Oliver Gavin: Five victories in 18 appearances – 2002, 2004-06, 2015; runner-up in 2003; third place in 2001 and 2008 • Tommy Milner: Two victories in 10 appearances– 2011 and 2015 • Marcel Fässler:Three victories in 13 appearances– 2011-12 and 2014
The 24 Hours of Le Mans will air live on the MotorTrend Network with coverage of practice, qualifying and the race on Radio Le Mans.
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FASTEST IN GTE PRO: “It’s always good to be quick but as everyone knows, today doesn’t count. It counts on the Sunday when the flag drops and the race is over. Today was really good for me to get used back to the Corvette. Today I was able to get in a lot of laps and went through a lot of tires to get confidence, which helps. For me personally, I’m very happy. In the afternoon, the track conditions were where they should be so we were able to collect a lot of data. We are very happy with that. “The Corvette C7.R is the exact same car from last year. In the end, we tried to establish a base setup. We did a little bit of tuning but not much - normal stuff like camber and dampers. Then we really tried to learn about the compounds we have available from Michelin. We tried to learn in which temperature window to use which tire. I was in that program, so that was quite nice! “The GTE Pro class is really the place where there will be fights among the manufacturers just like years before. We’re all looking forward to that. It’s super hard, and you have to fight for every tenth of a second. There is no margin for error.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – THIRD-FASTEST IN GTE PRO: “Overall, today was good for us. Like everyone here, you have a laundry list of items to go through… things that the engineers come up with that may work. This is our one opportunity to go through some of those options. We certainly found some good things in the Corvette. All of us drivers are generally happy with the car; there are always areas to improve. In the end, we’ve had a pretty smooth Test Day and we were able to check off a few boxes. Obviously we’re quick on the time chart now, but we’ve been in this position in years past when everything seemed to change come raceweek. We’ll focus on ourselves, figure out what’s good for us and see where we stand on raceweek.”
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Things were good today. This is one of the few years where weather respected the test, and the conditions were very consistent. Our running time was good; we were close to 100 laps. That means we have a lot of data to analyze. We definitely ran through all our program we had planned and then some. That’s always a good feeling. So I’m happy. We need to gather everything, see what we have, where we can improve and then put everything together for the race. Yes we were fastest today but I don’t think that means anything. I don’t know what the other teams are doing, so we need to wait until raceweek to see where everything is exactly. This is a good starting point. We all hope the package we bring to the race will be enough.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It isn’t at all important to be quick on the Test Day. We are here testing and going through our program, including knowing the WEC Michelin tires a little better. For us on the 63 Corvette, getting to know the tires at the WEC race at Sebring was a little bit of an advantage. But this is only our second time so we still have a lot to learn. So far so good. I think everyone is pretty happy. We didn’t have any issues on our Corvette throughout the day, which is good. We shouldn’t because this is such a well-proven car.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was a pretty good day for us. We got quite a lot covered with Michelin and our WEC tire. We worked through our program well, I think. There was a small issue in the middle of the day where we lost some time. But once we got on top of that, we fell back into our program. There were a number of slow zones and yellow flags that impede the process you are trying to go through. But we did get a lot done. You could throw a blanket over everyone in our class. No one is out of this race and everyone will be in with a chance at winning. We have to be smart and see what the race week brings.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: "It was quite good to be back in the car. I immediately felt good and was good on pace. The Chevy simulator tests we had recently helped a lot in being quick straight away. But today was all about finding a good rhythm and testing different things for the race, try to find the limits, work on the Corvette to tune it in to the circumstances and collect data for next week. All in all I felt pretty good in the car. We can be happy with the work we did today."
Press Release: Pair of Corvettes set for eight hours of running at famed Circuit de la Sarthe
CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: Dress Rehearsal for 20th Appearance Pair of Corvettes set for eight hours of running at famed Circuit de la Sarthe
• Corvette Racing seeks ninth class victory in competitive GTE Pro category • Road America, Chevrolet simulator sessions part of intense preparation • Six Corvette Racing drivers with 19 combined Le Mans victories
DETROIT (May 28, 2019) – Corvette Racing is back across the Atlantic once again for a landmark appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – its 20th consecutive appearance at the historic French endurance race.
Sunday’s annual Le Mans Test Day serves as a final dress rehearsal for the twice-around-the-clock race on June 15-16. It is the only time that Corvette Racing – and the rest of the 62-car field – can turn laps around the 8.48-mile Circuit de la Sarthe, a mixture of permanent race track and public roads.
This is a landmark year at Le Mans for Corvette Racing. No team is on record as having made more than 20 consecutive appearances, and the program has won eight times in 19 tries. What’s more, Corvette Racing’s Le Mans record also includes eight runner-up class finishes and nearly 100,00 racing miles completed.
That’s in addition to tens of thousands more miles in Le Mans testing and practice over the years on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In fact, the preparation for a ninth victory has been a year-long process starting shortly after last year’s Le Mans with Corvette Racing’s pair of Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs. The most recent testing took place at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin over two days earlier this month plus sessions at the Chevrolet Simulator near Charlotte, North Carolina.
Corvette Racing’s lineup is a carbon-copy of last year’s Le Mans roster and this season’s endurance group. Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller will drive the No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. The trio finished third in class at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring earlier this year in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In addition, Garcia and Magnussen are coming off a runner-up finish in their last race at Mid-Ohio.
In the No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette, the trio of Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler will team together at Le Mans for the third year in a row. Gavin and Milner have a third-place class finish to their credit at Long Beach in April.
Le Mans is the final race in the FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season. There is a total of 17 entries from five manufacturers in the GTE Pro category.
Each of the six Corvette Racing drivers own exemplary records at Le Mans:
• Antonio Garcia: Three victories in 13 appearances– 2008, 2009 and 2011; runner-up in 2014; third place in 2017 • Jan Magnussen: Four victories in 20 appearances– 2004-06, 2009; runner-up in 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2014; third place in 2017 • Mike Rockenfeller: Two victories in nine appearances– 2005 and 2010; third place in 2012 • Oliver Gavin: Five victories in 18 appearances – 2002, 2004-06, 2015; runner-up in 2003; third place in 2001 and 2008 • Tommy Milner: Two victories in 10 appearances– 2011 and 2015 • Marcel Fässler:Three victories in 13 appearances– 2011-12 and 2014
The 24 Hours of Le Mans will air live on the MotorTrend Network with coverage of the Test Day, practice/qualifying and the race on Radio Le Mans.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Year after year we have gone to Road America to test, so you can see how the C7.R has developed from the last year. You’ll know if you’ve made any improvements. Knowledge of the Michelin WEC tire is a big thing, and we learned a lot at Sebring in the FIA WEC race. Knowing that, we were able to focus a lot on that. Le Mans is always difficult to predict. Sometimes it can be hot with no rain at all and other years it’s cold and wet all race. We need to be prepared for everything. The good thing for Corvette Racing is we have the same car from past years and we have learned a lot each Le Mans. It’ll be another tight fight in GTE Pro.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The way we are performing in the IMSA championship builds confidence for when we get to Le Mans. Everyone will arrive with high expectations. Everything needs to work that particular weekend. We’ve shown in IMSA that even when we are in a little bit of trouble, we can come together and get the best out of any situation. That’s what we need to do for Le Mans. From the beginning, everyone needs to be at 100 percent otherwise it’s too hard to win unless you are at your best.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The Chevrolet simulator is a great tool from Corvette Racing to help prepare for Le Mans. It was nice. I drove a few laps in Elkhart Lake but it wasn’t easy because of the weather conditions. But I was able to go to the simulator to drive Road America for a little while, which was good to feel how realistic and close it is. Then we switched to Le Mans, which was the main target. Nowadays, simulators are so well-developed that you can really use it properly as a driver to prepare for racetracks or an event. The Chevrolet one, honestly, is a very good one. It is very close to reality, so we are able to truly prepare the Corvette for Le Mans.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “This season has been a season of what-ifs for Tommy and I on the No. 4 Corvette. There have been a number of races this year we’ve had the right strategy, the right car setup, we’ve been working well as a team… it seems like we’ve been able to unlock more speed from the car. That’s all encouraging and good. We seem to have a better understanding of this Michelin tire, and we can take that knowledge into Le Mans and try to use it wisely in our test weekend and preparations for the race.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Having raced the C7.R at Le Mans for six years now, we’ve had the chance to improve it year on year. The last couple of years have given us a chance to more fine-tune things. With some of the work we’ve done this year, we’ll have the best Corvette we’ve ever had at Le Mans. In some ways, Le Mans is a bit routine but we are all eager to get there and see how we stack up against our competition. There is work to do; we haven’t been the fastest car there the last few years but that’s not for lack of trying. Everyone at Corvette Racing has done made an extra effort to improve our car in every way possible. So I’m eager to get to the Test Day and see how these changes perform. From my perspective we’re in a good place.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was good to be back in the Corvette at Road America. The only downside is that the weather was mostly against us. It wasn’t really fully raining nor was it dry; we had some mixed conditions which made it difficult to do a proper test. But I did get some running on the rain tires and on the second day with slick tires. This was still a good test though. At Le Mans, you can have these situations where there is rain coming down and then it starts to dry out. So the better you know the car in those conditions, the easier it is to adapt yourself in the race. So in that sense it was a successful test.”

Now contesting his 18th season with Corvette Racing, Britain's Oliver Gavin has recently notched up a landmark 50th win with the team, making him the most successful driver in Corvette Racing history. Mobil 1 The Grid caught up with the veteran racer as he reflects on his career so far with the team, with whom he has won at Le Mans, Long Beach, Sebring, Lime Rock Park and many other tracks.
Press Release: Garcia, Magnussen finish second from seventh at race’s start
CORVETTE RACING AT MID-OHIO: Runner-Up Charge for No. 3 Corvette Garcia, Magnussen finish second from seventh at race’s start
• Second consecutive podium for defending GTLM champions • Second place in unofficial points for Garcia, Magnussen • Mechanical issue prevents victory challenge by Milner, Gavin • Team’s final race before 24 Hours of Le Mans
LEXINGTON, Ohio (May 5, 2019) – Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen climbed the GT Le Mans (GTLM) podium for the second consecutive year at Mid-Ohio on Sunday in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Acura Sports Car Challenge.
The pairing went from seventh at the race’s start to a second straight runner-up finish in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. Solid driving, a clever early-race strategic call and the team’s usual excellence in the pitlane all contributed to the result.
With Sunday’s showing, Garcia and Magnussen unofficially moved to second place in the GTLM Driver’s Championship as they seek a third consecutive title in the category. Chevrolet also moved to third in the Manufacturer’s Championship and one point out of second place.
From the early going, it appeared the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette of Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin would control the GTLM race. Milner went from fourth to second at the start and assumed the point as officials ruled the then-lead Porsche jumped the green flag. The No. 4 Corvette led the rest of Milner’s 50-minute stint and remained in the best position following the opening pit stop cycle.
Then disaster struck. Running second to Garcia, Milner reported a mechanical problem near the one-hour mark of the race. Once back in the garage, the Corvette Racing crew replaced the left-rear axle and sent Oliver Gavin out for the rest of the way.
Back in the No. 3 Corvette camp, the team opted for a three-stop strategy. Magnussen drove the first 36 minutes and handed over to Garcia on a strategic call by No. 3 Corvette race engineer Kyle Millay. Using input from Magnussen and with a rapidly improving track, Garcia moved into the class lead at the end of the GTLM pit cycle.
Garcia stopped again for fuel and fresh Michelin tires with a little more than an hour to go and this time cycled through to second place for the final race to the finish.
The next event for Corvette Racing is the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 15-16. It will be the team’s 20th consecutive appearance at the French endurance race. The next IMSA event for the program is the Sahlen’s Six Hours at The Glen on June 30.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SECOND IN GTLM: “Most of the race was compromised from qualifying. It was a difficult weekend. The good thing about being at the rear means you can gamble on strategy. We knew right away what we had to do. That was the maximum we could achieve today. It was difficult on the restart; I think I did 50 laps during the first stint, so I think we had more knowledge on how to drive the tire. I’m very happy for the whole team and where we ended up but 11 podiums without a win is a little too much!”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SECOND IN GTLM: “From where we started to where we finished, today was a good result and good for the championship. At the beginning for me, the balance wasn’t great and I had very little grip. We made some adjustments for Antonio, and as the track built some rubber into it, things got somewhat better. So we’re happy with P2. But we really need a win. I don’t know what we need to do, but we need a win. Kyle (Millay, No. 3 Corvette race engineer) did a fantastic job calling the strategy. I think we need to do more of that and be brave on the strategy to try and get some wins. Podiums get championships but so do wins!”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “It’s a frustrating day. These things happen in racing. Sometimes you have these runs and things seem to not go your way. Tommy and I had a good run at Long Beach, but other than that it’s not exactly gone well for us. Today showed a huge amount of promise again. Tommy had a great start and led. We were sitting in a nice spot and were very much in contention after the pit stop. But the axle issue undid all that. The crew did a great job getting the car back together to get me out there. From then on it was a matter of collecting data for the sister car and the rest of our events this year. It wasn’t a wasted afternoon, but it’s still not the way we wanted to go.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “These things happen in racing, obviously. You use the curbs a lot here, and oftentimes that’s a little more aggressive on these type things. Usually our Corvette is bullet-proof. It happened in a weird way. Maybe it could have been from the contact at the start when the BMW squeezed me to the inside. It could be a lot of things. It’s unfortunate that it had to happen. We had a really good Corvette race car. I definitely was in the right place at the right time at the start for sure. The car was really good in clean air. It seemed like we were really in the mix. Maybe in my case the time in the Chevy simulator last week or two weeks ago was well spent; I basically drove a whole day around Mid-Ohio, so I probably had a little bit of an advantage over some of the guys who didn’t have that luxury. Those little details matter. We were just unlucky today.”
Fourth, seventh for Corvette C7.Rs in highly-competitive GTLM qualifying session
CORVETTE RACING AT MID-OHIO: Milner Charges to Second-Row Starting Spot Fourth, seventh for Corvette C7.Rs in highly-competitive GTLM qualifying session
LEXINGTON, Ohio (May 4, 2019) – Corvette Racing will look for more championship points and its 100th IMSA victory Sunday from the second and fourth rows of the GT Le Mans category following qualifying for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio.
Tommy Milner paced Corvette Racing’s efforts in Saturday’s time trials. He qualified fourth in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R that he shares with Oliver Gavin. The duo are coming off a third-place finish in the team’s most recent race at Long Beach, Calif., in which Corvette Racing scored a double-podium finish.
Milner’s best time Saturday was a 1:19.721 (101.965 mph) lap that put him within 0.597 seconds of the GTLM pole-winning time. Teammate Jan Magnussen was less than 0.3 seconds adrift in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R that qualified seventh. His best time was 1:19.919 (101.712 mph).
Magnussen and Antonio Garcia finished second at Long Beach and were third at year ago at Mid-Ohio to start their push to the eventual GTLM Driver’s Championship – Corvette Racing’s third in a row. On Saturday, Magnussen was one of five GTLM drivers to hold provisional pole position during the session. At one point in a five-minute span, five drivers swapped pole position nine times.
Friday and Saturday was filled with changing weather conditions between warm and dry and downright cold and wet. Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session marked the best conditions of the weekend with things expected to improve for Sunday’s two-hour, 40-minute race.
Corvette Racing has won eight times at Mid-Ohio – the most of any entrant in the series. It also is IMSA’s most successful team with 99 all-time victories.
The Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio begins at 1:40 p.m. ET on Sunday. It will air on live on NBC Sports Network and the NBC Sports app starting at 1:30 p.m. Live audio coverage of practices, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED FOURTH IN GTLM: “It seemed like initially we were good. I was P2 for a little while there, but as it went on we fell back a little bit. We missed a little bit on the tire pressures, and the track is in a weird spot with all the rain the last two days, being a little dry this morning and then more rain after our practice. So a lot of it today was feeling it out and trying to figure out where you can go quick and where you can’t. Eighth place didn’t sound good; I cooled my tires for one more shot at it. Honestly, you are being a little careful right now in these conditions in some places. So I threw caution to the wind a little bit. If I went off at Turn Four and braked too late, I was going to be no worse off. In the end, fourth is a good starting spot for our Corvette C7.R. It’s difficult to pass here, so the farther up the grid the better it will be for the race. Now we have to execute on the track and in the pitlane then see where we end up tomorrow.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED SEVENTH IN GTLM: “We missed a little bit on the tire pressures, so the pressure was super high at the end. When it mattered, I didn’t have a lot of grip and the car was moving around a lot. But the balance of the Corvette was good. We were just slow because the pressures were so high. That’s how it is… one of those sessions. I’m quite happy with the race car we have for tomorrow. It will be in a spot where we can do something good with it.”

CORVETTE RACING AT MID-OHIO: Looking to Ride Wave of Momentum Team seeking to build on double-podium finish at Long Beach
• Garcia, Magnussen GTLM title push began a year ago • Gavin, Milne most recent Corvette Racing winner at Mid-Ohio • Program continues chase for 100th victory in IMSA competition • Team’s final race before 24 Hours of Le Mans
DETROIT (April 30, 2019) – One year ago at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Corvette Racing began its push to a third consecutive GT Le Mans (GTLM) title in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The team is hoping for a repeat and momentum heading into the heart of its schedule.
The Acura Sports Challenge at Mid-Ohio is next up for Corvette Racing and its pair of Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs this weekend. The most successful team in IMSA history – with 99 victories – is also the most honored at Mid-Ohio with eight class victories in 12 trips to the 2.238-mile, 13-turn road course.
Mid-Ohio is one of America’s most technical circuits with rolling hills and corners that create almost a roller-coaster type effect. It’s a stark difference from the opening three rounds of the GT Le Mans championship – Daytona, Sebring and Long Beach, which are largely flat and reward top-end speed.
Good vibes are flowing at Corvette Racing after second- and third-place finishes in the team’s last race at Long Beach to get the program into the GTLM Championship hunt. Defending Driver’s co-champions Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia placed second at Long Beach and stand third in points heading to Mid-Ohio, where they placed third a year ago in their Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette.
Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin, in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette, hope to improve their championship position following a third-place finish at Long Beach. The duo was the most recent Mid-Ohio winner for Corvette Racing in 2012 in the Corvette C6.R.
The Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio begins at 1:40 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 5. It will air on live on NBC Sports Network and the NBC Sports app starting at 1:30 p.m. Live audio coverage of practices, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Mid-Ohio was the first of many races last year where Jan and I had good results that led up to the championship. So we have a solid feeling about racing there. I enjoy the track. It has a good rhythm and flow to it. We will make sure in the practices that we have well-balanced Corvette that handles the elevation and directional changes with good drive off the corners. Long Beach was a solid weekend for the entire team, and hopefully we can keep that up at Mid-Ohio and into Le Mans.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’m really happy we’ve come back to Mid-Ohio. It’s a really good track with a lot of undulation and fun to drive. In the past we’ve been good there. Hopefully we can have a chance to fight for the win again. There is usually a lot of fans there, and it’s the last race before everything gets shipped over for Le Mans. It is a technical track. It’s hard to say that it is unique in that respect because most of the real tracks we race here in the U.S. are like that. You have tarmac, grass and then some hard stuff! But that’s what I enjoy most about racing in the U.S. You get to race these types of circuits where you have to really risk something to go a little bit faster.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Mid-Ohio is a big challenge and is great fun. The surface there usually is very low-grip, so you feel like you’re all the time hunting for grip around a lap. I’ve personally had some good memories and good results at Mid-Ohio. No, last year didn’t work out so well for Tommy and I, but we understand the reasons why and we are hopeful of having a strong Corvette there. It’s not a bad track for the C7.R, but this will be the first time for us there with this spec of Michelin tires. That will be a little bit of a learning experience with figuring out what works with them and how to switch on the performance. But Mid-Ohio is a circuit where you can pass cars and one where you can race hard. It generally puts on a good race and a great event.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Mid-Ohio kind of reminds me of a go-kart track in a good way. You’re always working there with a lot of medium-speed corners that are all different but are all third- or fourth-gear corners. It’s such a tough race because you are working so hard for so long. Getting the balance right is oftentimes difficult with lots of elevation change, on-camber and off-camber sections, curbs you can use and curbing you can’t. It’s a really challenging track for us in our GT cars. Then you add in traffic with the prototypes and slower GTD cars… it’s difficult and frustrating for everyone. But it’s a classic sports car course. We’re lucky in the U.S. to have tracks like Mid-Ohio with so much history and character. It’s one we haven’t raced at a lot recently, so our book on setup stuff is somewhat new with the C7.R. We took good notes after last year’s race, so we’re looking forward to going back there to see how we can make the car better and have a better race.”

Press Release: Garcia, Magnussen, Gavin, Milner all climb GT Le Mans podium
CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Second and Third in Another Thriller Garcia, Magnussen, Gavin, Milner all climb GT Le Mans podium
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 13, 2019) – Corvette Racing claimed two podium finishes Saturday at the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix of Long Beach, the first time since 2014 that the program scored a pair of top-three results on the streets of southern California.
Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen placed second in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with their No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. They were followed closely by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin in the No. 4 Corvette in third place.
As was the case for the last handful of years at Long Beach, Saturday’s race was a topsy-turvy affair up to the finish. After finding misfortune while leading the last two years, Garcia and Magnussen finally had luck turn their way. After Garcia began fifth, the No. 3 Corvette gained a spot during its lone pit stop under caution 40 minutes into the race.
Rejoining fourth, Magnussen immediately began hounding the third-place Porsche. He made the move going into the first corner with 23 minutes left and set out to run down the second-place Ford.
Meanwhile, Gavin began third and set the fastest GTLM lap of the race before handing off to Milner. Looking for a third straight Long Beach class victory with his teammate, Milner went from sixth to fourth with seven minutes remaining. He continued his challenge as Magnussen caught the second-place car with two laps to go. The No. 3 Corvette moved into second when the Ford ran out of fuel on the final lap, and the two cars made contact. Magnussen was able to continue with Milner right behind to the finish.
Corvette Racing’s next event is the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio on May 3-5.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – SECOND IN GTLM: “Things happened for us but not against us like in previous years. So that’s a plus! We aren’t used to having trouble-free last laps here. I told Jan with my luck, I don’t know if I would have made it to the end! It was a tough position to switch our strategy here. Jan is a great qualifier here, so it was tough for me to discover qualifying after all these years of him doing it. So I did my best. I think I had a car to qualify on the first row, but we know GTLM is super-competitive. In the race, I got stuck behind the 66 so all I could do was save fuel. It helped us jumped the 4 Corvette in the pits and we almost got the Porsches. After that, Jan did a magnificent job with managing the tires and fuel. I’m happy keeping it this way! I know I’ll qualify better next year, so maybe we can do that and win the race.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – SECOND IN GTLM: “The end was pretty crazy with the 66 running out of fuel ahead of me. I thought I was going to get stuck behind him, so I had to get on the throttle full to push him out of the way to get that last half-lap back to the checkered flag. Corvette Racing did a fantastic job setting the car up and thinking about what we needed at the end of the race. I don’t know if we had the best car, but it was close. I’m super happy today. For sure we’d like to get a win soon. We’ve caught up in the championship so it’s a good day.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – THRID IN GTLM: “You can’t take your eyes off things at this race… not for one second. It’s a crazy, action-packed event. My stint was relatively straight-forward. I had a few bits and pieces I had to be careful of at the start. We had an early caution, and I was mainly shadowing the two Porsches. I kept thinking about where we were going to be when it came to that pit stop, if it was going to go green all the way. It didn’t so we all came in together. It looked like we were going to be good but got caught out slightly with everyone else on fuel, and everyone went a little shorter than we did. We were out running around in fifth, and Tommy did a fantastic job to get by one of the Porsches. Then it was just rolling those laps off. That last lap again was crazy with how everything unfolded. At the end of the day, we’re happy with good points and a podium but we really would have loved a win.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – THIRD IN GTLM: ”This race and this race track lead to racing like this. There’s a lot happening at every stage of the race with our race, prototypes racing their race… you combine that for 100 minutes with everyone going from the word ‘go’, you’re going to have fireworks here and there. In the end, it’s a pretty good result for Corvette Racing. We can’t be too unhappy with second and third. We had a good Corvette today. Track position is really big. The Ford being out front there holding us up a little bit didn't help for sure, and we lost a spot or two on pit lane as well. It's one of those things. This racing is about tenths of seconds and every little thing counts. You have to have a really, really good race to get wins. That's why when you win it feels so good. Even so, a second and a third felt like a good result for us today. Tt felt like there was a little bit more for us today. Certainly getting a win for us would have been a great challenge. We had a great car and it was a good drive for Olly at the start there. We’re pumped to be on the podium again at Long Beach. It's not a win, but we will take it!"
PRESS RELEASE: Gavin third, Garcia fifth in GT Le Mans qualifying in chase for IMSA victory No. 100
CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Positive Vibes Going for Three Straight Gavin third, Garcia fifth in GT Le Mans qualifying in chase for IMSA victory No. 100
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 12, 2019) – Corvette Racing will try for its 100th victory in International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) competition from the second and third rows of its category Saturday in the Bubba Burger Sports Grand Prix at Long Beach.
Oliver Gavin, in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, qualified third among GT Le Mans (GTLM) cars from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on Friday. A five-time winner at Long Beach with Corvette Racing, Gavin set a time of 1:16.520 (92.587 mph) around the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street circuit in southern California.
He and teammate Tommy Milner have won the last two years in GTLM at Long Beach in their Corvette, and they also teamed for victory in 2012 at the venue.
Antonio Garcia, who shares the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R with Jan Magnussen, will start fifth Saturday after his lap of 1:16.685 (92.338 mph) in qualifying. The duo were 2014 winners at Long Beach for the first victory for the Corvette C7.R.
Saturday’s race can check off a list of milestones with a Corvette Racing victory. The program would be the first in IMSA history to reach 100 victories. In 21-plus years of competition, Corvette Racing has won 107 races around the world including eight at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
No IMSA team has been as successful at Long Beach as Corvette Racing with seven class victories dating back to 2007.
The GTLM class was separated by just 0.923 seconds with only 0.372 seconds covering the five-fastest qualifiers.
The Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix from Long Beach begins at 2:05 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 13. It will air on live on NBC Sports Network and the NBC Sports app starting at 5 p.m. Live audio coverage of practices, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED THIRD IN GTLM: ”It's been a good day for us in the No. 4 Corvette. We’ve been at the sharp end for every session. I worked hard with Chuck (Houghton, engineer), Brian (Hoye, car chief), their guys and Tommy on getting the car just a tick better. We kept ourselves sort of in the mix. But there was one change we kept in the car from practice that I convinced Chuck to keep in the car, and we probably should have taken out. It might have made the difference to get a bit closer to the front or maybe even get the pole. But third is good. We can race from there. We know you can win this race from pretty much anywhere on the grid. We have to be smart, keep it clean and execute. We have the best team in the pitlane for that and a great teammate in Tommy. Hopefully we can come away with our third win in a row at Long Beach, the 100th win in IMSA for Corvette Racing and my sixth win at Long Beach, which would be really cool.”
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED FIFTH IN GTLM: “It was my first ever qualifying at Long Beach for me. There are still many things yet to discover, I have to say. Even if I had a chance to run a new set of tires in that last practice, I kind of still had something to learn. I felt I was lacking a little bit in a few spots where I thought I could have gone a little bit faster. The time was there to go maybe a couple of tenths faster, but not much more than that. It is difficult to really nail it here and I believe I didn't quite do it. It’s not a bad result, but I would have like to have been a little higher.”
Circle City Corvettes, Inc. is having it's annual Corvette Beach Caravan, May 17-18, 2019. There will be a Corvette caravan from Dothan, AL. to Panama City Beach, FL., and we are going to party!

Gavin, Milner arrive in southern California as two-time, defending GTLM winners
CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Third Straight Win on Tap? Gavin, Milner arrive in southern California as two-time, defending GTLM winners
• Corvette Racing seeking eighth Long Beach victory since 2007 • Garcia, Magnussen look to continue momentum from Sebring • Chevrolet winningest IMSA manufacturer at Long Beach
DETROIT(April 8, 2019) –During the past 20-plus years, Corvette Racing has made its mark in long-distance endurance racing with multiple victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
But the program aims this weekend to add to its sparkling success rate at the shortest race on its yearly calendar with a return to the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach. The pair of bright yellow Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs will look for a third straight victory on the streets of Long Beach and eighth at the event since 2007.
More significantly, a triumph in Saturday’s 100-minute race would be Corvette Racing’s 100th in IMSA competition Coincidentally, No. 99 in North America came a year ago at Long Beach. It also gave Chevrolet its ninth Long Beach IMSA victory – the most among series manufacturers at the event.
Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner enter Long Beach as winners the last two years at the event in their No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. It was Gavin’s 50th victory with Corvette Racing, and he leads all IMSA drivers with five victories at the event. Milner, who drove the closing stint the last two years, is a three-time winner at Long Beach – all with Gavin.
Two years ago, the Gavin/Milner duo were the benefactors when the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen were blocked at the final corner of the final lap by a trio of stopped cars. Milner had no choice but to slip through an opening to secure another Chevrolet victory. Last season Milner took the lead with about 20 minutes to go after a mechanical problem dropped Garcia from the lead just before a restart.
Magnussen and Garcia last won at Long Beach in 2014 for the first victory for the Corvette C7.R. It was the first victory at Long Beach for Garcia and second for Magnussen, who leads all IMSA drivers with three pole positions at the circuit.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Long Beach is a fine circuit… except for the last corner! That’s only half-serious as I’ve never had such bad luck at one spot before. We probably should have won the last two years. In 2017 the track became blocked at the final corner and I went from first to fourth. Last year we had an electrical problem that took us out of the lead after a caution. It’s unfortunate but that is racing sometimes. We can take confidence that Corvette Racing has shown strong at Long Beach for many years, especially with the C7.R. Maybe this year will be the one Jan and I can have luck go our way.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Long Beach is a fantastic event and a fun track. It’s a great track to race on. The race being as short as it is means there is a lot of action in not much time. The last two years, we’ve been where we needed to be but just little things got in the way. The No. 4 guys have won the last two years, so hopefully we can have a little bit of luck go our way at Long Beach to get some points back from a not-so-great Daytona and build on our result at Sebring.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Our success at Long Beach comes down to many things. Fundamentally, Tommy and I have been in the position to win each of the last four years. Yes, things have had to go our way in some cases. Three years ago we were leading with two laps to go and got taken out at the last corner. But the last two years we’ve taken our chances and take them well. That’s what it’s all about driving around a street circuit – when to risk it, when not to, take advantage of the mistakes of others and execution. Last year we had a good Corvette. We were strong and Tommy had a great stint at the end. Sure, we got fortunate when two other cars had contact but that’s one of the reasons we’ve won so many times at Long Beach. We’ve managed to execute passes cleanly and we’ve been smart. All it takes is a little bit of contact or a brush with the wall and your day is done. There are no second chances at Long Beach.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “For me, my success at Long Beach has been a bit of a surprise in some ways. I’ve never really thought street races were my strong suit. The racing is always fun there, but I always felt more comfortable at other tracks. But I’ve had some of the best outcomes at Long Beach – my first Corvette IMSA win in 2012 with Oliver, and then we’ve been super strong there the last four years with the Corvette C7.R. There definitely is something about Long Beach that suits our driving styles. We just have good races; we put ourselves in good position, we have good pit stops and Olly does a great job in qualifying. We always seem to end up in the right places at the right time. Certainly we’ve some luck go our way there, but we’ve also been on the other side of it. It would be great to get another win there, for sure – No. 100 in IMSA for Corvette Racing.”

CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Solid Effort in FIA WEC Round Garcia, Magnussen, Rockenfeller finish eighth in class with No. 63 Corvette C7.R
SEBRING, Fla. (March 15, 2019) – Corvette Racing gave a solid effort during the 1,000 Miles of Sebring on Friday as Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller finished eighth in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s GTE Pro category.
The trio, driving the No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, ran a solid race despite a couple minor setbacks that prevented Corvette Racing winning at Sebring International Raceway for the 12th time. It gets another shot Saturday in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Garcia, Magnussen and Rockenfeller each drove mistake-free stints throughout the eight hours. Starting fifth in class, the No. 63 Corvette ran as high as fourth in class and never fell off the lead lap despite going against regulars from the FIA WEC. A late shower created a bit of drama among the GTE Pro runners but Rockenfeller held steady in the final damp 20 minutes.
There isn’t much time to rest for Corvette Racing. Saturday’s 67th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts is the second race of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season and begins at 10:40 a.m. It will air on live on CNBC starting at 10:30 a.m. ET with additional coverage across NBC Sports Network and the NBC Sports app. Live audio coverage from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com, Sirius 138 and XM 202.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s a classic situation in the WEC. Once you get out of sequence on your pit stops, you’re on your back foot the rest of the way. Little things that keep putting you back a few seconds keep putting you back and back and back. It’s hard to get that on pure pace. We lack a little bit of experience that the regular WEC teams have. But I think we’ve shown that our pace is there with them.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “That was a long stint for me but I think we made up a lot of what we lost at the start with the tire problems Antonio had early. As far as I know we are pretty much back where we thought we would be. It was a good double stint to made up some of what we lost. The car was good and we could fight with people when we would catch up to them. I’m pretty pleased with how things were overall; it’s unfortunate we got off-sequence with the tire issue Antonio had. The racing here has been good like it will be IMSA tomorrow. So I’m happy. It was a lot of fun.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We unfortunately lost quite some time because we had to change the driver’s side door a couple times. Other than that, on track we tried something in my first stint with our tires; I was struggling quite a lot. The second stint was better. I tried to save some fuel to make an extra lap, and it worked out. Overall, our Corvette was good. This was not an easy race. It was very good to be in for two stints and be on two different tire compounds. Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully we can use a little bit of the experience for tomorrow in order to react to certain track conditions. If it rains tomorrow, it is a whole new story. But in dry conditions I think we have learned something.”
CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Valiant Effort Lands No. 3 Corvette on Podium
SEBRING, Fla. (March 16, 2019) – Corvette Racing closed its marathon weekend of racing Saturday on the class podium at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, bringing one of the team’s most demanding events to an end.
Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller placed third in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. It was a remarkable effort for the trio of the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R as they competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s eight-hour race at Sebring International Raceway on Friday.
Meanwhile, the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler finished eighth in class after an early-race electrical issue. The Corvette lost 11 laps as it went back to the garage for repairs to the alternator system. Apart from that, the No. 4 C7.R. ran reliably with all three drivers turning largely trouble-free stints.
The race ran without much trouble for the No. 3 Corvette, aside from rain at the start and again just past the race’s halfway point. Despite lacking the ultimate pace of the class front-runners, the Corvette Racing team still found itself in contention and leading inside the final hour ahead of its final pit stop.
The No. 3 Corvette team stopped twice inside the final 80 minutes to gain track position for the stretch run. Garcia closed the race by gaining two spots in the final 20 minutes to climb the GTLM podium.
Corvette Racing’s next event will be the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix on April 12-13 from the famed Long Beach (Calif.) street circuit. The race begins at 5:05 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 13 with live television coverage on NBC Sports Network.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED THIRD IN GTLM: “It was difficult to do both races in the weekend, for sure. I wasn’t 100 percent today but was 99 percent. We gave it all, and you have to wonder what had happened if we had just that little extra. But I’m happy to have been able to compete in this event at Sebring – both the WEC and IMSA races. It was a great result for Team Chevy. Friday we didn’t achieve a good result, but the good thing about Corvette Racing is that we always want to win. We tried to gamble tonight and that’s what we do – go for the win. Maybe if we had three more laps it would have been enough knowing we had better tires than our competitors and being closer to the leaders on the last restart. I’m satisfied with good points. Let’s go now for the championship.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED THIRD IN GTLM: “Getting a podium today will count a lot toward the championship. But you always want to win at Sebring. There was an opportunity there at the end but traffic and some of the action on track kind of stopped us from doing that. But I’m very happy how everyone on Corvette Racing has worked and performed in both series. Today definitely is good for the championship.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED THIRD IN GTLM: “We had ups and downs in the race. At certain stages we were really fast. Antonio and Jan did an awesome job. Thanks to them and thanks to the Corvette Racing team. The Corvette is just unbelievable here at Sebring. It’s always tough and you have to be spot on. When I got out of the car, there were 80 minutes to go and we were third. We couldn’t make it on fuel without a last stop, so we rolled the dice and tried to attack. It almost worked out. We took our opportunities and tried to go for victory. In the end, it’s a podium and we can be proud of that in GTLM. Thanks to Corvette Racing for a great car and to all my teammates. Even though it is a little disappointing not to win, we can be happy with this result in the end.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: "It was a tough race track this time for the No. 4 Corvette. The team and the crew did a great job, but the wet conditions at the start created tricky conditions. The issue that we had reshaped our race. We couldn't recover. We were some 11 laps down, and got a couple back, with ultimately some great strategy and some very hard work by the team. It is such a difficult class. So many great teams and drivers that you have to be at the top of your game. As you could see there at the end, it was so, so close. The No. 3 C7.R got a good podium result, but I think they could have fought for the victory as well. It seems like 2019 has started out a bit rough, especially for the No. 4 car, but we will bounce back, gather things up and get going for the next one at Long Beach.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: "It is tough in these long-distance races to have something go wrong, basically, that puts you that far behind. It is hard, but you find ways to keep your head in the game. There are plenty of reasons to stay motivated. Our Corvette was really, really fast today so that makes this that much more difficult. We had a really good car, and it is disappointing that we weren't able to use it to get a really good result. That is the way it goes. That's racing. You spend all of your time preparing for the race day, and sometimes things go your way, and sometimes they don't. For us today, it just didn't go our way. We can go away from this very happy with how good the car was today. We made some really good changes throughout the race to keep improving the balance. We learned a lot about the car and the tires and those things. So even though the end result wasn't what we had planned for and hoped for, we can still learn a lot about the car, the tire, the balance and all of those things. "As always, the crew guys did a great job today in the pits and back in the paddock getting the car repaired. They had a lot thrown at them, and as usual, they handled it all well. They are ready to go."
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “It’s disappointing for sure to see that we could have ended up better. We don’t know why but sometimes we seem to always have little issues. I don’t know why. We had good preparation but we were just unlucky with things today. We have a strong team, strong crew and strong engineers. It seems like we are missing all the good luck we had in 2016. But I’m sure it will come back soon."
CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: ‘Super’ Weekend on Tap for Corvette C7.Rs Team set for races in WeatherTech Championship, FIA WEC on same weekend
• Corvette Racing seeks 12th victory in Sebring 12 Hours with pair of Corvette C7.Rs • Garcia, Magnussen, Rockenfeller to pilot Corvette in 1,000-mile WEC race • Chevrolet among leaders in Sebring victories for manufacturers
DETROIT (March 11, 2018) – Corvette Racing is used to facing sports car racing’s toughest tests. But this year’s trip to Sebring International Raceway may be its challenging yet.
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship each will race around the 3.74-mile, 17-turn Sebring circuit March 15-16 with Corvette Racing participating in both events. It’s another opportunity for the program to show why it’s one of the best in the sport’s history.
Two Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs will contest Saturday’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in the WeatherTech series’ GT Le Mans (GTLM) class. The day before, one Corvette C7.R will compete in the 1,000 Miles of Sebring in the WEC’s GTE Pro category. All in all, it makes for one of Corvette Racing’s most demanding events.
Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts In its 20-plus years of competition, Corvette Racing has racked up more victories than any team in IMSA history. Those 99 have come on some of North America’s classic road courses with 11 at the famed Sebring International Raceway. That’s where Corvette Racing returns for the 21st time in search of a fourth victory in five years at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
The event may as well be a home race. In 20 years, the Corvette Racing program has racked up 11,613 laps for 43,107.40 racing miles. There also are thousands of testing laps and miles that have filled the engineering and crew notebooks since 1999. What’s more, the six Corvette Racing drivers have combined to win 19 times at the circuit.
This year’s race offers a chance for a redemption of sorts following the first race of 2019 at Daytona. Both Corvettes led the GTLM class in the opening half of the Rolex 24. After coming back from a pitlane collision by its sister car, the No. 3 Corvette of defending GTLM Driver Champions Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen along Mike Rockenfeller made up three laps and led near the halfway point before running out of fuel on track. It was the result of a loss of telemetry between the Corvette and the pit stand.
Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler were in contention at Daytona before a crash near the 16-hour mark after a high-speed hydroplane sent the No. 4 Corvette hard into the Turn 1 tires. It had been a remarkable run to the front for the trio, which started the race ninth in class.
FIA World Endurance Championship 1,000 Miles of Sebring As if 12 hours around Sebring isn’t enough, Corvette Racing will be the only team to contest in both feature races of the Sebring weekend. Garcia, Magnussen and Rockenfeller will pilot the No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R in Friday’s race for the FIA WEC, which goes either 1,000 miles or eight hours.
It will be the third event for Corvette Racing in the FIA WEC’s “Super Season”, which began with the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans. Gavin and Milner also raced a Corvette C7.R in the Six Hours of Shanghai in November. That chassis will be the same one that Garcia, Magnussen and Rockenfeller will drive in the Sebring WEC round.
This will mark the second time Corvette Racing has competed in IMSA and FIA WEC rounds on the same weekend. The team entered a Corvette C7.R for Milner, Jordan Taylor and Ricky Taylor at Circuit of The Americas in 2014.
Chevrolet, Corvette on Display at Sebring This year’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring will again feature a heavy dose of Chevrolet – the official vehicle of Sebring International Raceway. In addition to Corvette Racing’s three Corvette C7.Rs competing on the track, the field also will include a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 that will serve as the event pace car. The Corvette C7.R and production Corvette Z06 represent the closet link between race car and street car with the two sharing a common aluminum chassis, engine technology and aerodynamic strategies.
In the Sebring Midway, the Chevrolet Motorsports Display is a must-see for any fan. A number of vehicles will be on-site for visitors to view and learn about, including the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 – a supercar that establishes a new standard at Chevrolet for power output, track performance and technology.
Also among the lineup of Chevrolets at the Display include: • Production vehicles like the new Blazer RS, Traverse High Country, Silverado 1500 Trailboss, Colorado Crewcab Z71, Malibu RS, Equinox Premier and Traverse Premier Redline • A Corvette C7.R show car • Samples of Chevrolet engines, performance parts and accessories available to fans for purchase from their local Chevrolet dealer • A variety of Chevrolet and racing related activities for adults and kids • Corvette Racing t-shirts for fans who sign up with Chevrolet Motorsports
The Corvette Racing Display will be open at 9 a.m. on Thursday, and 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Fans at Sebring also can get behind the wheel of select Chevrolet vehicles at the Chevrolet Ride & Drive located at the Sebring skidpad near the drive-over bridge on the outside of the track. Vehicles available include Corvette, Camaro, Blazer, Silverado and Traverse.
The Ride & Drive opens at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The 67thMobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts is the second race of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season and begins at 10:40 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 16. It will air on live on CNBC starting at 10:30 a.m. ET with additional coverage across NBC Sports Network and the NBC Sports app. Live audio coverage of practice, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
The FIA WEC’s 1,000 Miles of Sebring is set for 4 p.m. ET on Friday, March 15. It will air live on Velocity with live audio coverage of practice, qualifying and the race on RadioLeMans.com.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 and NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “This Sebring for sure will be much different than any we have done in the past. It’s the first time I have driven two GT races on the same weekend. Doing two races of these lengths on this track will be very tough to say the least! We have done enough laps and years at Sebring to know how much this will test us and our Corvettes. The cars should be very close to the same in performance for the IMSA and WEC races. So one of the benefits is that we will be able to gather extra data during the week.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 and NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We come to Sebring every year to test ourselves and our Corvettes. This takes it to a new extreme! But we will be in racecars the whole time so it will good. Both of these races are important in their own way. Friday’s WEC race is good in that we get a chance to size up the competition we usually at Le Mans. It will be good race them on our turf this time. Of course everyone wants to win the 12 Hours. In a lot of ways it’s still the most physically demanding race we do. It’s important to everyone at Corvette Racing and you can see that with the number of victories over the years. We need a good showing in the 12 Hours to get ourselves in the championship again.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 and NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I always wondered what it would be like to race for 24 hours at Sebring. This will be close! I have done a few long-distance endurance tests at Sebring where we would run for 25-30 hours. But this event will be much different with the separate practices, qualifying sessions and the race. The good thing is that our WEC program should help us with data for the 12 Hours. Overall, having success at Sebring will be the best way to rebound after Daytona.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:“To say that Sebring is unique would be a massive understatement. Just like Le Mans, you can’t find a track like Sebring anywhere in the world. Add the atmosphere and you get an event that has a tradition like Le Mans, Monaco or any of racing’s great spots. Of course everyone at Corvette Racing enjoys coming to the 12 Hours. We have a long history at Sebring with a lot of wins. Adding another would make up for how we started the year at Daytona.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We’re all still pretty disappointed with how Daytona ended up for us. Those kinds of races are few and far between for Corvette Racing. The encouraging part is that both our Corvettes were strong in the early going. We just had too many mistakes. I know everyone on the team has reflected and reviewed everything that went on, and we’ll come back at Sebring with hopes of getting back on the right track.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:“It’s always a challenge to have success at Sebring. In many ways you need more luck than other places because of the bumps and the way the track beats you up. That is what makes this race unique. You know that anything can happen. It will be a long weekend – longer for the guys on the No. 3 Corvette – but this is one of the most enjoyable races we do.”

CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Doing the Double Garcia, Magnussen and Rockenfeller to contest IMSA, WEC enduros
DETROIT (Feb. 26, 2019) – Corvette Racing confirmed today its participation in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 1,000-mile race at Sebring International Raceway, one day prior to the 67th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller will contest both endurance rounds during the “Super Sebring” weekend that will see the FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship compete on the same weekend. For the WEC round on Friday, March 15, the Garcia/Magnussen/Rockenfeller trio will pilot the No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R.
In addition, Corvette Racing also will enter two Corvettes in the Sebring 12 Hours, which is the second round of this year’s IMSA championship.
This will be the third event for Corvette Racing in the FIA WEC’s 2018-19 “Super Season”, joining last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Six Hours of Shanghai where Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner teamed in a Redline-themed Corvette.
The Sebring WEC race gives the Corvette Racing program another opportunity to extend its run of success at Sebring. The team has raced at Sebring every year since 1999 when Corvette Racing made its competitive debut. The tally since then is more than impressive: 11 class victories – including three straight from 2015-17 – and more than 43,000 racing miles completed.
Garcia, Magnussen and Rockenfeller have combined for nine Sebring victories between them and were victorious together in the 2017 race.
The FIA WEC’s 1,000 Miles of Sebring is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Friday, March 15. The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is set for 10:40 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 16.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 and NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Sebring is one of the premier events we do at Corvette Racing each year. This year’s event will be the biggest challenge yet. The track is special for us as a team with the history and race wins we have achieved over the years with our Corvettes. We have many miles of testing and competition to draw from for both the IMSA and WEC events. It will be tough on all of us, but that is why we come to Sebring.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 and NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’ve never driven in two races like this on the same weekend. So it’s something I’m looking forward to. Everyone at Chevrolet and Corvette Racing enjoys coming to Sebring and testing ourselves against the best in the sport. We have two chances to do that now! The preparation level has been high as we’ve had to train and ready ourselves more than ever. We have a solid lineup, a great team behind us and obviously a very solid and very strong Corvette that we know very well. I think all three of us drivers will be extra sore come Sunday after the race but that’s the allure of Sebring. You get to push and punish yourself like no other time during the year.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 and NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Sebring is always one of the toughest races of the season. It is a great and historic event, but you always take a beating during the race. Now we will take twice the beating! In all seriousness I’m really looking forward to being part of these two races in the Corvette. It gives me more time in the car, which is never a bad thing. That is what you want to do as a racing driver. We also have a lot of data and success to put into our preparations. This will be a big effort but there isn’t a team better to be with for this ‘double’ than Corvette Racing.”
Press Release: Eventful start to program’s 21st season of competition
CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: Soggy Result in Rolex 24 for Corvette C7.Rs Eventful start to program’s 21stseason of competition
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 27, 2019) – In more than two decades of competition, Corvette Racing has faced its share of adversity and challenging conditions. The championship-winning program experienced the highs and lows of endurance racing Saturday and Sunday in a soggy start to the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The two Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs finished the Rolex 24 At Daytona despite some of the most treacherous conditions in the team’s 21-year history. Both Corvettes led the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class on multiple occasions in the opening half of the race before troubles beset Corvette Racing entries.
The No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller led the team’s effort with a sixth-place class finish. Magnussen qualified second and led during his first 90 minutes in the Corvette before the two C7.Rs made contact in pitlane.
Despite losing three laps in the incident, the No. 3 Corvette crew and engineers took advantage of timely yellows and key strategic calls to move Garcia back into the lead less than 10 hours. Unfortunately, the No. 3 Corvette suffered an electrical issue that impacted the digital dash around the track. As a result, the car-to-pits telemetry was compromised including fuel monitoring. That issue reared its head just before halfway as Garcia ran out of fuel on the backstretch of the 3.56-mile circuit.
Once back in the pitlane Garcia handed over to Rockenfeller, who re-entered eighth in class. Attrition and the weather allowed the No. 3 Corvette to make up two positions before the race was stopped for the final two hours.
The No. 4 Corvette C7.R of Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler found itself in contention from the get-go after starting ninth in class. Gavin moved up to fourth before handing over to Milner near the two-hour mark, and the No. 4 Corvette raced its way to the lead a little more than an hour later. All three drivers spent time in the lead of the class.
The second half of the race held much of the same misfortune for the No. 4 C7.R as its sister car experienced. After having to stop for bodywork repairs not long after the rain began in earnest, Milner hydroplaned under braking going into the first corner and going into the tire barriers with the left side of the Corvette.
Once it returned to the garage, crews from both team entries went to work replacing a number of components on the No. 4 C7.R including left-side exhaust, rocker and bodywork plus the wing and nose, among other items. The stellar work took less than 30 minutes with Fässler returning to the circuit inside eight hours to go.
The next event for Corvette Racing is the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on Saturday, March 16 from Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SIXTH IN GTLM: “We fought the entire race even in bad conditions. There were some issues with the electronics where we lost some telemetry. We couldn’t even get information to the engineers… things like fuel. Nothing seemed to be working. That made things a lot more complicated. Even with all that, we made it back to the lead. That was a great feeling to be back up there and fighting for it. But we got to a point where we were guessing where we were on fuel. Maybe we could have gone a lap or two shorter but we come here to win and go 100 percent. It’s a shame. Everyone at Corvette Racing gave the maximum effort, which we as drivers appreciate. Things didn’t work out today so we move on to Sebring to try and get the result we know we can achieve.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SIXTH IN GTLM: “Obviously the result is a disappointment because we had a fast Corvette when we were on track. Unfortunately we had a trip back to the garage to fix some of the electronics; we lost telemetry and because of that we ran out of fuel. That put us 10 laps back and ended our chance for a good result. Before that we got to the lead at the beginning and then got back up front after our problem in the pits. I’m sorry for the guys. I think we deserved a lot more but that’s how these 24-hour races can go sometimes. It’s also about not being unlucky and staying out of trouble. On to Sebring where we’ll go for another good result.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SIXTH IN GTLM: "Our Corvette was really good, actually. We had good pace in the race. We had some incidents obviously. The first one was with our sister car, but we knew it was early in the race. It was no big issue. Things can go wrong’ it’s normal under racing conditions. Then we were back in the lead and another problem occurred. That took us eight laps down to the leader and basically that was our race. So for myself I tried to not damage the car, and the end of the day there was nothing I could do. Unfortunately another year over for Daytona, but we are looking forward to Sebring. We will focus on that. Thanks to the team. The Corvette was really spot on-pace."
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “Right from the start, it was clear that we had a good Corvette in dry conditions, and it looked like we were very good on the medium tire compound. Normally the way things usually play out, you’re looking forward to dry conditions on Sunday where you’ll be on the tire that we thought would be quickest for our car. I think we certainly would have been able to fight whoever to the end. But then the rain came, and it was a lot. From then on, it was always going to be a lottery. Tommy’s incident was unfortunate and there was nothing he could do. It shows the strength of our Corvette that he walked away. The whole team did a great job getting us back out where we didn’t lose so much time. After that, we were just looking at what we could get from the race and score as many points as possible. There were so many cars going off and crashing into each other. The officials and the series made the right call to red flag the race and finish it when they did. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone on the team for their work the last few weeks. No one ever gave up and really dug in on any problems we had. As drivers, we were given the best equipment all of the time which is all you can ask for.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “This one will go down in history as one of the most difficult Rolex 24s that teams have been part of with the weather conditions. We had our own adversity with an unexpected extra engine change Friday. But we have a strong Chevrolet engine and power for the first half of the race. Things obviously unraveled for us later on but both Corvette Racing teams fought back from all those things to get us back up front but it wasn’t meant to be. That’s how it goes sometimes. It seems like today it was against us. Congratulations to all the winners for surviving the conditions out there. I tip my hat to them, as well as Olly and Marcel for finishing up in some pretty difficult conditions.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “This was a super-crazy race if you look back. We had really good speed overall in our Corvette and led many times. In the end, we were for sure a little unlucky but that is racing. With the circumstances in the rain, it was very tricky to drive. I’m really happy Tommy is OK because it was a hard crash; the Corvette held up really well. When I went out in similar conditions, it was very tricky to drive. It didn’t work out today for us unfortunately. But Corvette Racing showed that we have potential to always do great things. We should take positive things to Sebring and turn everything around there.”
Halfway through the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Corvette Racing’s No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs remained in the thick of the Rolex 24
IMSA WEATHERTECH SPORTSCAR CHAMPIONSHIP ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA CORVETTE RACING DRIVER QUOTES – Halfway Update JANUARY 27, 2019
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.(Jan. 27, 2019) – Halfway through the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Corvette Racing’s No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs remained in the thick of a back-and-forth battle for the lead in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Oliver Gavin ran in the top-five in class in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette as the opening round of the 2019 season moved into its second half. It put Corvette Racing in solid position to challenge for a fourth Rolex 24 victory and third since 2015.
The trio of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller also led multiple times in the opening half of the race. It was a remarkable achievement for the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R following a pit-lane collision with the sister car near the two-hour mark. Timely caution periods and solid strategy not only made up laps, but they also helped Garcia move back into the lead less than 10 hours later.
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The first set of tires I had in that last stint didn’t perform just as I wanted to. But Chuck (Houghton, engineer) worked on the car and on the tire, and our C7.R was significantly better that second stint. I was battling hard with the BMW and the Ford, which was nice. I think we are on par with the Ferrari, but the Porsche is very quick. I have to say they will mostly likely be our biggest rivals the rest of the way. A lot can happen and there’s a long way to go. Let’s see how things turn out. Tommy is back in right now and is doing a great job, as did Marcel before me.” (Seeing the No. 3 Corvette back on the lead lap) “I was beating myself up pretty bad about what happened at that early pitstop on the first driver change. I’m very, very happy that they’ve managed to get back up and are on parity with us. Now we can race hard and fair. I’m sure they are chomping at the bit to get by us and back to the front. We’ll be racing our Corvettes clean and fair.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s great our Corvette is back on the lead lap. We do have a lot of issues, though. I don’t know where they are coming from and I don’t know what it is. We have a dash that isn’t working correctly and isn’t giving correct information. We don’t always have the rear-view camera and radar. It’s very tricky. Once I get into pace mode, I couldn’t get out of it; I had to power down the car and restart it twice. I’m happy we’re back in it and hopefully we can sort out these little bugs. We are good and we are fast. So we’re in it with a shot.”
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We’ve been fighting the whole race. We’re several laps down so we are hoping for rain and a lot of yellows.”
Gavin within 0.6 seconds of teammate in hard-fought Rolex 24 qualifying
CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: Front-Row GTLM Start for Magnussen, No. 3 Corvette Gavin within 0.6 seconds of teammate in hard-fought Rolex 24 qualifying
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 24, 2019) – Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen qualified second Thursday in GT Le Mans (GTLM) for Saturday’s Rolex 24 At Daytona ahead of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s opening race.
Driving with Antonio Garcia and Mike Rockenfeller, Magnussen set a lap of 1:42.583 (124.927 mph) in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. Magnussen and Garcia won the 2017 and 2018 GTLM Driver’s championships and were victorious at the Rolex 24 in 2015.
Oliver Gavin qualified the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R ninth in class and only 0.6 seconds behind his teammate. Gavin, who set a lap of 1:43.239 (124.133 mph), is aiming to repeat his 2016 Rolex 24 class victory with teammates Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler.
As was the case in Rolex 24 qualifying last year – and earlier this month in official testing – the pair of yellow Corvettes opted to use a drafting strategy around the superspeedway portion of Daytona International Speedway. Different this time is that other teams followed Corvette Racing’s lead during Thursday’s session.
This year’s Rolex 24 is the 20th anniversary of Corvette Racing’s competitive debut. The program starts its third decade in search of its 13th Driver and Manufacturer title in 21 years of racing in IMSA, along with a fourth victory at the Rolex 24.
The 57thRolex 24 At Daytona is the start of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season and begins at 2:35 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 26. It will air on live on NBCSN and the NBC Sports app starting at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. NBCSN also will air qualifying live at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 24. Live audio coverage of practice, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED SECOND IN GTLM: “I suppose it was an OK result. Had it been a little cleaner, maybe I could have gone quicker. But three-and-a-half tenths is quite a lot. I’m happy with the lap but it was not clean. I had to fend off one of the Porsches starting the lap and then had to pass Oliver during the lap as he had just done his fastest; he let me by but I still had to pass. We didn’t quite hit the tow we had planned and how we wanted. But the Corvette was good and the time itself was good considering how messy of a lap it was. I’m quite happy with the car we have for the race. But this is about qualifying first, and we didn’t.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED NINTH IN GTLM: “We have been battling grip level since the start of today, and qualifying was no different. We are not entirely sure why we are getting very low bite from the tire. We tried to our tow strategy but things got a bit messy. After that the speed just wasn't there for us. I'm not entirely sure why. The tire pressures were split which was a bit unusual, so maybe that was part of it. The track also is very different from the test earlier this month. We have a couple more sessions to work on a few things, so I’m confident the guys at Corvette Racing will come through.”
Press Release: Corvette Racing begins its 21st season of competition this weekend with the Rolex 24 At Daytona to start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: Start of Third Decade and Another Title Defense GTLM championship program aims for fourth Rolex 24 victory
• Corvette Racing starting challenge for fourth straight GTLM championship • All six Corvette C7.R drivers with victories at Daytona • Chevrolet most successful manufacturer at World Center of Racing • Multiple locations for Chevrolet fans to learn more about production models
DETROIT (Jan. 22, 2018) – Twenty years ago, a new program came on the sports car racing scene in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. A solid – and trying – result laid the groundwork for Corvette Racing to contest and win races around the world. Fast forward to today… Corvette Racing is back at Daytona International Speedway with its pair of Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs in hopes of adding another chapter to its history of sports car excellence.
The program will start its third decade in search of its 13th Driver and Manufacturer title in 21 years of racing in IMSA, along with a fourth victory at the Rolex 24. Such accomplishments would continue to Corvette Racing as the most successful program in the history of IMSA, which is celebrating its 50th season in 2019.
Since Corvette Racing’s competition debut at Daytona on Jan. 30, 1999, the program has claimed 107 victories around the world with 99 coming in IMSA competition. Victory at Daytona would make the team the first in IMSA history to win 100 races.
Six familiar faces will drive the pair of Corvettes at Daytona. Defending GT Le Mans (GTLM) champions Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen, who teamed to win the Rolex 24 in 2015, are sharing the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette with Mike Rockenfeller for the fourth consecutive season. Magnussen was the fastest driver in GTLM during the three-day Roar Before the 24 earlier this month as the team used a drafting strategy to lead the class.
In the No. 4 Corvette, 2016 GTLM winners Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler are back together again, a year after Gavin and Milner won for Corvette Racing at Long Beach. The trio ended the 2018 season with a runner-up finish at the 10-hour Petit Le Mans and no doubt want to carry that momentum over to the start of 2019.
It’s off to a good start so far for both Corvette Racing entries. The two Corvette C7.Rs logged more than 1,200 miles during the three-day Roar to establish a baseline setup for Thursday’s practice and qualifying sessions. The hope is that the data gained at the track and at Chevrolet’s racing simulator will lead to another Rolex 24 victory. It would add to Chevrolet’s impressive total of more than 40 victories across all motorsports events at Daytona, making it the most successful manufacturer at the World Center of Racing.
Opportunities Abound for Chevrolet Fans at Daytona Chevrolet aficionados will have no shortage of things to see and do at the Rolex 24. That’s because three locations around Daytona International Speedway – the Chevrolet Experience Center, the Chevrolet Injector and Chevrolet Motorsports Display – will be full of Chevrolet vehicles that spectators can learn more about throughout the weekend.
Each location will open at 9 a.m., Friday and Saturday; and 8 a.m., Sunday. Among the highlights at the Chevrolet Motorsports Display is the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, a supercar that establishes a new standard at Chevrolet for power output, track performance and technology. Numerous other Chevrolet vehicles will be on-site including:
• Production vehicles such as the All-New Silverado and Blazer, Corvette Grand Sport, Colorado ZR2, Camaro ZL1, Traverse Redline, Trax, Impala, Tahoe, Equinox, and Malibu • A Corvette C7.R show car • Samples of Chevrolet engines, performance parts and accessories available to fans for purchase from their local Chevrolet dealer • A variety of Chevrolet and racing related activities for adults and kids • Corvette Racing t-shirts for fans who sign up with Chevrolet Motorsports
Also located inside the track and next to Victory Lane, the Chevrolet Experience Center will have a number of additional Chevrolet production vehicles and product specialists throughout the Rolex 24 weekend. Fans can walk through the Experience Center and see models such as four special edition Corvette Grand Sport coupes, Corvette Z06, Camaro ZL1 and Silverado.
At the Chevrolet Injector, nearly 30 different Chevrolet vehicles – including the new Blazer, Corvette Z06, Camaro ZL1 1LE and a number of Silverado, Traverse and Colorado editions – will be on display throughout the four levels of fan access. As at the Chevrolet Motorsports Display and Chevrolet Experience, Chevrolet product specialists will be on-hand to answer questions on each model of Chevrolet vehicle throughout the weekend.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The competition gets harder and harder every year. Even though we have won the GTLM championship the last three years as a team, our competitors are improving and getting hungry to beat us. That’s the main thing – keep doing what we do and be successful again. We showed good strategy at the Roar so I feel like we are very prepared. We’ll see.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The biggest challenge for GTLM will be the added traffic that the Michelin tire will provide. The entire field is on Michelins now – Prototype and GTD. That will make it much more difficult for us to do our own race. Passing and overtaking will be much more difficult so we all have to be careful. Last year we did everything we were supposed to do and ran a perfect race with no mistakes but still only finished third. We’ll try again this year and hope for a better outcome.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The Roar was a great chance to get seat time again in the Corvette. You always want more time but I feel like I am as well prepared as possible going into the race, and so is the team. So much of this race is determined by mistakes and trying to do too much. The good thing about everyone at Corvette Racing is that we know how much risk we can take without being too ambitious on the track. That’s the sign of experience.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The Rolex 24 is going to be exceptionally tough and difficult. It always is, but that’s what makes winning here so satisfying. You have to be smart, you have to execute and you can’t make mistakes. If you can do that, you have a great chance of being in Victory Lane. Tommy, Marcel and I have been fortunate enough to do just that in 2016 in what is my most memorable IMSA race. We absolutely have the pieces in place to do that again.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The Rolex 24 is always a big challenge for us. It’s the first race of the year, so that means new people, new parts and pieces on the car and some unknowns on our part in terms of our competitiveness. You come in with a new sense of energy from starting fresh again. It can be a challenge to temper that excitement within you to remember this is a 24-hour race, and you have to be there at the end to win it. There are so many people watching and there’s a lot going on throughout the week. But during that time you’re always thinking about getting to the checkered flag and hopefully getting that Rolex watch at the end of Sunday.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “There are many challenges within the Rolex 24 but I always believe the race is the biggest one in the IMSA championship. Daytona is such a unique race with the road course and oval. It’s dark for a very long time. The weather can be quite unpredictable, and you never know where you really stand until after the race begins. Those things are for sure what sets Daytona apart from any other race I do during the year in America. But I can’t think of another team better prepared than Corvette Racing, which we have seen now for many years. We are ready for this challenge.”
Magnussen, No. 3 Corvette draft way to weekend’s quickest GTLM time
· Team completes more than 1,200 miles of testing ahead of Rolex 24
· 21st season on tap for Corvette Racing
· Goal is fourth victory on high banks of Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.(Jan. 6, 2019) – Corvette Racing completed its final test ahead of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with three days of testing at Daytona International Speedway, site of the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Sunday marked the third and final day of running at the annual Roar Before the 24 around the 3.56-mile Daytona road course. Corvette Racing’s pair of Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs completed 341 laps and more than 1,200 miles from Friday through Sunday.
The highlight of the weekend was Jan Magnussen’s fastest GT Le Mans (GTLM) lap during qualifying for garage and pit positions for the Rolex 24. With drafting help from teammate Oliver Gavin, Magnussen posted a lap of 1:42.651 (124.844 mph) in the No. 3 Corvette.
As they did a year ago during time trials for the Roar and Rolex 24, the two yellow C7.Rs worked in tandem to take full advantage of the tow that cars generate on the super-speedway portion of Daytona. Magnussen, driving with Antonio Garcia and Mike Rockenfeller, used that to his advantage to take the GTLM pole in last year’s Rolex 24 qualifying.
Gavin, who will team with Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler, set the No. 4 Corvette’s best lap during the qualifying session at 1:43.193 (124.188 mph). It was more indicative of the single-car pace of the Corvette around Daytona.
Apart from qualifying, Corvette Racing spent Friday through Sunday working through a variety of setup and Michelin tire options for the Rolex 24. Practice time will be limited during the week of the race, which heightens the importance of data-gathering for Corvette Racing engineers.
The best-possible result in the Rolex 24 will springboard Corvette Racing’s challenge for a fourth consecutive GTLM Driver’s Championship and 13th IMSA Manufacturer’s Championship in the class.
Corvette Racing will be back at Daytona International Speedway for the 57tth Rolex 24 At Daytona on January 24-27.
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUICKEST IN GTLM QUALIFYING
HOW WOULD YOU GAUGE HOW THE WEEKEND HAS GONE?“We didn’t have a lot of new stuff to try out this year. We have a new tire from Michelin that we needed to get our heads around; we had some experience with it beforehand but here is where it matters. We did a good job developing the setup of our Corvette to suit the tire.”
TALK ABOUT THE LAP IN QUALIFYING.“We did exactly the same as we did last year where we agreed who was going to tow who. It was me again like in race qualifying last year. That gave us a good top-speed advantage in that session. Olly (Gavin) did a fantastic job placing himself at the right distance out of Turn Six so I could take full advantage of the tow down to the Bus Stop and then go by him at start/finish to get the fastest lap. We did the exact same thing at the Roar and the race last year, so I don’t really know why everyone else is doing the exact same thing. But it seems we’re the only one doing it at the moment, and it’s working out really well for us.”
WHAT DOES THIS DO FOR YOUR CONFIDENCE GOING INTO THE ROLEX 24?“The time today was a little artificial because of the towing we did, but we did want to try and win the session. We had one car at the front and one at the back. The difference between our cars is the difference the tow makes. We have some work to do in order to be competitive over the full race. I’m confident the guys at Corvette Racing and Michelin will give us the best chance to win the race.”
WHAT ARE YOUR CHANCES OF GOING FOR FOUR DRIVER CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A ROW FOR CORVETTE RACING?“What did for us last year was that we do work as a team. All the drivers here are to make Corvette Racing win races. That means we do work together. Very often the focus is put on one car. It’s not always the same car. If we work as a team like we did last year, then I’m sure we’ll have a great shot at getting another championship for Corvette Racing.”
WHAT CAN YOU DO BETWEEN NOW THE RACE TO MAKE SURE THE CAR IS AS FAST OR FASTER THAN TODAY?“We’ll do another session in the Chevrolet simulator, and I believe we’ll work through the program we ran here to make sure everything we do in the simulator is relevant. There’s a ton of data for the engineers to go through and fine-tune our setup. All of the drivers will hand in reports on their experiences with the different setups and the changes we think need to be done. Then it’ll be up to the engineers to come up with a good plan. We’ll have a little bit of testing at the race so we can try some different things. But we need to arrive back here with a car that’s ready for qualifying and for the race.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:“In the last couple of sessions, we were able to dial in and find something that we should be relatively comfortable with in our Corvette. We set up qualifying to get the best possible outcome for one car. Jan and I talked beforehand how we were going to do it, and we executed it really well. We knew at what lap the tire was going to be at its best. I was really mindful of where I was in positioning so Jan could come off the Bus Stop and get a really good run. It all works and came together from a good plan. It’s nice having the team work together and carrying on in the same vein as last year. It’s a great result for all of Corvette Racing.”
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:“It’s very difficult to gauge after this weekend where everyone will be come Saturday of the race. We’ve done all we needed to do and ran through our testing plans. There’s not a ton on our Corvettes that we can try that is different. Everyone got good time in the car, which is great. The one area we needed to focus on most are the new Michelin tires, and know we have an idea of what to expect. We’ll analyze all we’ve done during these three days to come back as fast and as reliable as possible. If that’s enough then great. If not then we’ve done our best to perform at 100 percent.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:“Overall we had a solid time at the Roar. We didn’t change a lot of things because we know the car inside and out, plus we know the track very well, too. We ran through a couple of small adjustments and tried to get me some seat time for me. I hadn’t driven the car since Le Mans last June. I really enjoyed my time back with Corvette Racing. The weather and conditions were great except for Friday night’s rain. Hopefully it stays like this for the race.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Coming here for the Roar gives us an opportunity to try a lot of things we won’t have time to try come race week. So it’s a good thing to run through all those setup options. It’s still tough to get a lot of running here even though it’s three days; we’ve had a lot of red flags and relatively short sessions. It was good to get some final laps in the afternoon session. We’ve been here many years now with the C7.R and we have a handle on what it takes to go fast here. There are always things to try and to learn. We’ll put all that information to make our best effort come the Rolex 24.”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s been important for me to get back in the Corvette to get some rhythm and get back in a racing mindset for the race. It was important to do as many laps as possible, and it was really quality time spent in the car. So I’m happy on the performance side. We’ve tested a few things this weekend looking ahead to the race. I’m happy from the weekend. We’re all looking forward with some positive thoughts and are all motivated for the race.”
Consistency Key in Corvette Racing 2019 Driver Lineup
Same pairings in pair of Corvette C7.Rs for IMSA’s 50th season
Corvette Racing going for fourth straight championship season
Garcia, Magnussen enter as two-time and defending GTLM Driver champions
Gavin, Milner together again for full season
Start of Corvette Racing’s third decade of competition
DETROIT (Jan. 2, 2019) – A new season for Corvette Racing will bring a familiar look and feel to race fans across North America in 2019 as the program confirmed its lineup today for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. It’s a roster that remains intact for the fourth consecutive year.
Corvette Racing’s four full-season drivers – Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner – are back together for the eighth consecutive season.
These four drivers have combined for 113 victories and 13 Driver Championships with Corvette Racing. No other driver roster in modern North American sports car racing can match that level of race- and championship-winning consistency.
For the fourth consecutive year, they will be joined by Mike Rockenfeller and Marcel Fässler in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring to start the 2019 season.
Garcia and Magnussen will return in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R as two-time and defending GTLM Driver Champions. Since joining forces in 2012, Garcia and Magnussen have won 13 races including the Rolex 24 in 2015 and twice at Sebring – the latter two with Rockenfeller.
Meanwhile in the No. 4 Corvette C7.R, Gavin and Milner also will go for their third Driver Championship as a pairing. Like their teammates in the No. 3 Corvette, Gavin and Milner have won 13 times together. Among those are the Rolex 24 in 2016 (with Fässler), Sebring two times and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015.
Both of the Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs will officially begin the 2019 IMSA season at the annual Roar Before the 24 at Daytona International Speedway from Friday through Sunday. It is the prelude for the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona – an event Corvette Racing has won three times.
The records of each Corvette Racing driver rank among the best in endurance sports car racing:
Antonio Garcia: 16 victories; three IMSA Driver Championships; winner at Le Mans (2009, 2011), Daytona (2015), Sebring (2009, 2015, 2017)
Oliver Gavin: 50 victories; five IMSA Driver Championships; winner at Le Mans (five times), Daytona (2016), Sebring (five times)
Jan Magnussen: 35 victories; four IMSA Driver Championships; winner at Le Mans (four times), Daytona (2015), Sebring (five times)
Tommy Milner: 14 victories; two IMSA Driver Championships; winner at Le Mans (2011, 2015), Daytona (2016), Sebring (two times)
Mike Rockenfeller: one victory; winner at Sebring (2017), Daytona (2010), Le Mans (2005 and 2010)
Marcel Fässler: two victories; winner at Daytona (2016), Sebring (2013, 2016), Le Mans (2011, 2012, 2014)
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s hard to believe this will be my 11th season with Corvette Racing and eighth as a full-time driver. We have been able to win a lot of races and championships during that time. Obviously Jan and I work very well together with our crew and engineers. That’s a large reason why we have won consecutive Driver Championships. The work begins again next week at Daytona. As a team, there have been important updates and progress to our Corvettes ahead of 2019. I think we can all feel confident in our ability to challenge for more race wins and championships.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I can’t think of a better program to be part of than Corvette Racing. It’s like my second family, and it’s great that we’ve been able to achieve a high level of success. I can’t think of a better teammate than Antonio. We’re both highly competitive and push each other constantly. That’s the type of person you want sharing your car. With our collective group at Corvette Racing, we know that we can contend for another championship and more race wins, starting at Daytona.”
MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s been far too long since I was with Corvette Racing. The is a fun program and it’s very well-run and organized. Any professional driver would want to be part of any team like this. Having said that, Marcel and I are very determined to do our part to place Corvette Racing in the best possible position to start the GTLM Championship with a win at the Rolex. It all starts with the Roar and three very important days of testing. I’m ready to get back!”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Being back with Corvette Racing and with Tommy is the best way to start 2019. It’s an amazing feat that we remain at the forefront of the GTLM championship each season. The people, the tools and resources we have within our program make all this possible. This may be the toughest season we will face with our Corvette C7.R. All of our competitors have had another year to fully develop their cars. But we know that this is only a single element in what makes a championship-winning team. We’ve displayed that many times and the Roar and the Rolex give us another chance to do so again.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s been a short offseason for several of us but I know everyone is ready to get back to Daytona and start a new season. Winning the Rolex and the GTLM Championship are goals for Corvette Racing each season. I’m confident that our test program since Petit Le Mans is going to put us in a great position to do that. We’ll be off and running immediately with the Roar and then ahead to the Rolex. The 2016 win with Oliver and Marcel is one I’m eager to repeat… although maybe not as tense this time!”
MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Starting 2019 with Corvette Racing at Daytona is the perfect way to get back into the groove of competition. I’m obviously very glad to return to a team that I have gotten to know so well the last few years. Tommy, Olly and I had a great end of 2018 at Road Atlanta so our goal is improve on that for the Rolex 24. Winning the race three years ago is a highlight in my career that I always will remember. It would be nice to add more with Corvette Racing this season.”
CORVETTE RACING AT SHANGHAI: All Set for China Race Debut
Gavin, Milner pleased with progression of Redline Corvette C7.R
SHANGHAI (Nov. 17, 2018) – Data collection and continued familiarization continued to be the name of the game for Corvette Racing at the SAIC International Circuit in Shanghai on Saturday ahead of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Shanghai.
Both Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner expressed confidence and were pleased with the progression of Corvette Racing’s No. 64 Redline/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R during the last two days, including dry running Saturday for the final practice and GTE Pro qualifying Saturday.
This is the team’s first race in the FIA WEC outside of June’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the program has spent the last two days collecting valuable bits of data and information from the Corvette, its Chevrolet small-block V8 and a different spec of Michelin tire from what it fields in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Nevertheless, the two drivers were happy Saturday with the performance gains of the Corvette ahead of what appears to be a soggy Sunday for racing. Friday’s two practice sessions were both run in wet conditions with the Redline C7.R among the rest of the WEC GTE Pro competitors on pace.
The Six Hours of Shanghai will conclude Corvette Racing’s historic 20th season of racing around the world. Since 1999, the program has scored 107 global victories – including eight at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – 13 IMSA Team championships, and 12 Manufacturer and Driver titles. It also has completed more than 280,000 racing miles in two decades of competition.
The FIA WEC’s Six Hours of Shanghai will air from 9:30-11 p.m. ET on Saturday and 3-4:30 a.m. ET Sunday on Velocity. Full live streaming coverage will be available on MotorTrend On-Demand with full audio coverage on Radiolemans.com.
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 REDLINE/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It is different here coming to an FIA WEC sprint race compared to Le Mans. The mentality is very different and the qualifying procedure is very different. You effectively have one-lap qualifying for both drivers. We made a decent step in setup from the dry practice this morning to qualifying this afternoon. And if it does stay dry tomorrow, we can make another significant step to get us close to the front-runners. But all the forecasts are saying there will be significant rain tomorrow. We’re expecting mixed conditions, and that will be good for us. We were competitive yesterday in the wet sessions. Like we’ve seen in so many endurance races, we run well in these. Our team is tested. We have an excellent team with great strategy and pit stops. The Redline Corvette C7.R is really coming along a lot closer to our performance window. Everyone on this team will do all they can to get us a good result.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 REDLINE/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We anticipate wet weather tomorrow and maybe a little bit of dry for tomorrow. Mother Nature is really giving us all sorts of weather conditions to prepare us! This is all a lot of data-gathering for us plus a new qualifying format. Olly and I both learned quite a bit. Ultimately it’s about going as fast as you can. As always, the race is what really matters. We certainly made a bit step between the free practice and qualifying with the Corvette, so we’re positive about that. We feel good about the car in wet based on yesterday. We’re moving in the right direction and getting closer on pace to our competition. We’ll spend tonight looking at data and come back tomorrow with a car that we feel will be right in the mix.”
