Ya T. I'm retiring on the first of the year.

My grandfathers smoked 2 to 3 packs a day of the unfilterd coffin nails and they both lived to 68 which was about right for the time. I smoke about a pack a day of filtered lights. I'm hoping to be good to at least 72. If my wife ever leaves me or dies I'm starting up all my bad habits again.

So anyway.....
I'm going down to the hospital to get a chest x-ray. COPD. I guess 40 years of smoking can have a little effect on breathing. They said I can just walk in. Let's see how that works out. I'm out sick till next Wednesday then I go back for two weeks and then I'm just about done with this career.
After the first of the year I'll start a nice long vacation, except for my projects around the house and my honey-do list. Not sure what I'll get accomplished the rest of the day but I'm sure I'll do something. I always do.

Well call me dumb as stone. I must have somehow triggered the diagnostic mode in the unit thus the code. I dont know why nothing worked but apparently it does that in diagnostics. Yesterday when I got home I sprayed the buttons with electrical contact cleaner because they were acting up before this. I went to the FSM and it said to hold the up and down temp control button down for 5 seconds to see the diagnostics. I must have done that while I was fiddling about yesterday. I went out this morning to go see if that's what I had done and everything was working fine. Even all the buttons engage thanks to the contact cleaner. So I guess it's just me learning something new everyday. Even after 6 years of ownership. Thanks for the response Andy. That's the first place I went when I was trying to figure it out. All my fuses were good. I checked all the ones in the fuse panel.

Through the years I have read rants and raves about bringing the Vette to the dealership for work. I almost felt like a heathen for doing so because only an idiot would have the work done at a dealership. Well, here is the story.
In my attempts to save on maintenance expenses I found a local shop that was doing a lot of the work I wanted done at 1/2 to 2/3rds of what it would cost me at the dealership. Injector problems, heater core, timing, plug, distributor and wire issues. Recently they informed me that my timing cover was leaking. They replaced the ignition switch but the security light stayed on.( broke the switch on installation) They lubed up and repaired my door locks and locking mechanisms but when I got it back my mirrors stopped working and my ac/heater fuse was blown. Once they put on the knee bolster over the hood latch. My darling wife was getting really pissed with me for bringing it to these guys and in the end I have to say she was right. She insisted we bring the car to the dealer to address and correct all the little crap that is wrong with the Vert. So they're fixing all the stuff I saved all that money on at the other shop.
It wasn't the timing cover it was the oil pan gasket they rigged when I had the leakdown problem with the injectors. As I said they didn't reconnect the mirrors when they reinstalled the door panel. They're replacing the broken ignition switch and two new keys. I'm having a couple other little things fixed while they have it.
There are a lot of shops and mechanics locally but they're either crooked or minimally trained. Oh ya! I can fix that. No problem. I did a search of AAA approved repair facilities in my area. There was one. It was the dealer. Yup! They're expensive but they have a good Vette mechanic who does things right. I'm willing to pay the premium to get it done right the first time. All the agrivation isn't worth the several hundreds of dollars I never saved.
I would try to do a lot of this work myself but in the end I know where it would end up ...........The dealership ...

I took the 90 Corvette for a ride yesterday. The buttons that control the air distribution did not want to respond but I got the circulation button to turn on the system. When I got to my destination, the buttons would not respond to any settings including off. I shut off the motor and did what I went out to do. On restart, The fan motor/temp control system kicked on and is apparently stuck in one setting. None of the lights over the buttons work, fan speed control etc. The radio will not work, the clock is stuck on 1:00 and none of those buttons work either. So in a nutshell, there is power to the unit, the digital readout screen where the outside temp displays reads a short dash and two long dashes and none of the selection buttons respond. I disconected the battery to see if it would reset. No luck there. I'm going to the FSM to see what I can dig up but any voice of experience is welcome.

Anthrax is easy to create and one of the prevelent threats to our citizenry today. With constant terrorist threats the possibilities increase that a biological weapon could and would be used. Maybe these are just a benign white powder. That doesn't mean the next batch isn't the real deal.

The same idiot drivers effect happens here in SoFlo only with rain. It doesn't rain for awhile then you get a good downpour. Idiots drive to fast for conditions and there are wrecks everywhere. Looks to be a nice day outside today. Going to see the Doc later. Maybe have to stay home for a week to rest up a little being sick with allegies and flu for the past 3 weeks. Sick sucks.
