I'm a 5 year USAF vet too. I grew up in Boston. Pretty big city. By the time I was 18 I had been everywhere within a 2 hour radius. Lived in Germany on the economy for 3 1/2 years. Came back to the US to just outside San Antonio at Randolph AFB. Came to vacation in Miami (Homestead) in 1978 and haven't left yet. Finding the right place is a mofo.

Ya know a twenty widget down stake is pretty minimal these days. with enough competitors, the game can get real interesting. Yet how can guys that get behind by a 300 points be inspired to stay in the play? Maybe Guru window stickers for not DNF'ing?

Then what would motivate Andy?

Home is what you make it and where you make it. If your unhappy there you'll probably be unhappy with the next place because every place sucks for one reason or another.

Just came back from a 500 mile round trip using the 90 Corvette. I only averaged about 22 mpg but there was some city driving there too. It was a nice weekend with mother. I drove alone so had some peace except for listening to the classic rock. No issues with the car. 140,000 miles and going strong. Warm days (80s) Cool nights (50s)

I'm heading out to Mama's house for this weekend so I won't have a chance to join the folly. Getting off work at 3:30 and I'm Bradenton bound in the 90. Hope she (the car) treats me well but I have the standard road kit with me.
Mama keeps me well fed so no problems there ........

I had to mail in my request for early retirement. They mailed me back my packet and I filled everything out and sent it back. A few weeks later they mailed me back my approval letter. I have to attend a retirement seminar and view a couple of hours of retirement videos. Here is how times have changed. The retiement seminar is a 1 1/2 hour conference call with a counselor and others on the phone. The retirement videos are all viewed online at home. After the seminar and videos are complete, I will have an opportunity to speak with a retirement counselor by phone to answer any final questions I may have. After that all I do is work till my last day, say good-bye to my long time co-workers and wait a month for my first check. Can't get any more impersonal and methodical than that. I'm sure I'll forgive them though come the first of February 2009 when I get my first check. I already got my watch a few years back for 25 years. I don't think they even give out the watches anymore.

Oh, the times they are a changin'.

And what if I post another thread then bump this one to keep the line above.

I guess I'm a dying breed. I'd rather have a guy in the middle pricewise with a good reputation than a cheap guy who has to be cutting corners somewhere. Although in our plant business we sell high volume at low prices rather than low volume at high prices. Other nurserymen are always telling the wife.......Dammit , your prices are too low. We're also making sales in a recession. Low prices can move a product. On the services end there is no barter. She gives them a modest take it or leave it price. Many of them take it. She has a solid reputation.

A few things regarding this:

First, racism isn't illegal. It's not a desirable trait, but it's not illegal. You are free to like who you want, based on whatever criteria you choose. (At least for now).

Second, I don't care about Obama's skin tone. Unlike most of the American electorate, I know something about the man, and I detest him. He's a racist, and a marxist. A couple of quotes from Obama's book:
"white man's greed runs a world in need" - B.H. Obama
"That's just how white folks will do you." - B.H. Obama
One of my favorites:
“How I learned to talk to white people is to not scare them... don't make any sudden moves... don't appear radical...” - B.H. Obama
Obama was mentored by Frank Marshall Davis, a communist.

Finally, race relations will get worse, much worse. I am already sick of the first black this, the first black that, blacks can do this, or that... As long as we cast each other into groups, we are doomed to be divided. The country won't progress until we quit noticing skin pigment.

Everyone has bias and partiality. If you don't then you'd eat anything that was put on your plate. But if I don't like something I'm not going to eat it . I don't give a crap what color it is.

Anyone spend any time on Obama's website? I did. I really wanted to be an educated voter and not just vote a party ticket.

I saw a lot of contradiction and more McCain mudslinging. Nothing of any substance regarding the HOW, no matter how deep I dug.

Here are my two questions:

1. If Obama is going to attack "big business" with tax hikes, how does he propose to keep jobs in North America? As soon as it's too difficult for business to stay here they'll leave in even bigger droves...doesn't anyone see that the jobs go, too?

2. The next item up is attacking "big oil." And we're also going to investigate alternative fuels as another way to stick it to "big oil." Doesn't anyone realize that the oil companies are funding the highest level of alternative fuel research? They're not stupid. They know that they need to expand their reach into energy as a commodity, not only oil.

And I loved how he painted McCain's abortion views...it sounded like if you voted for McCain he would personally come to your house, rape your wife and daughter, and make them keep the baby.

Glad to see someone take it to the next level.

Not my birthday. I just have a feeling something historical happened on this date. Let me check.

Guy Fawkes Night Nov. 5th 1605. Also known as Bonfire Night and Cracker Night. A bunch of hooligans tried to blow up the Parliament in England on this date in 1605.

Considering the state of the union, the results are really no surprise. People are discontent. The promise of change and a new approach was too much for many to resist. There is plenty of work to be done. The actions taken in the next four years will be dramatic. When looking for the results, I remain cautiously optimistic.

P.S. Be prepared for changes in the capital gains tax structure.

You should buy some air time to promote your business.
What do you need an office space for? Meeting clients? Storing equiptment? Or a place to run to get out of the house. The less overhead the better.

I was truly undecided all the way till I colored the circle. I finally went with the candidate that had the endorsements of people I respect. Now I'm suffering from voters remorse. I should have just voted for Nader.

1990 L98. Just had the booster and master cylinder replaced 2 weeks ago. Previously the brakes engaged when light pressure was applied near the top when depressing the brake pedal. After the replacement, the brakes work fine but engage after depressing the pedal a couple of inches. Since the brakes work fine, is this anything to be concerned about, should I just get used to the new brake pedal actuation point or is there futher adjustment needed?

One door closes, another opens. Many people have found a better career path as a result of getting laid off or fired. That's the blessing I believe your neighbor was implying. It's like getting dumped by a girlfriend. It sucks in the beginning but hopefully you find a better girlfriend and wonder what the heck you saw in the first one. Best of luck in your future pursuits.
