CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: Missions Accomplished Ahead of the 24 Hours

Gavin sets GTE Pro pace in No. 64 Corvette C7.R while No. 63 entry fourth-quickest in class

Successful day for team making its 18th consecutive appearance at Le Mans
Gavin’s fast lap came after fast engine change by No. 64 Corvette team
Garcia fastest driver in No. 63 Corvette C7.R and only 0.363 seconds off Gavin
Corvette Racing going for ninth class victory at Le Mans

DETROIT (June 4, 2017) – Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin set the fastest time in the GTE Pro class during the annual Test Day ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The five-time Le Mans winner turned a lap of 3:54.701 (129.990 mph) in the No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R that he will share with Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler.

It was mostly a trouble-free day for both Corvette entries with Antonio Garcia placing the No. 63 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R fourth in GTE Pro with a lap of 3:55.064 (129.680 mph). He is driving with Jan Magnussen and Jordan Taylor – the duo reunited after finishing second in class together in 2014.

Following the eight hours of running, the Corvette Racing engineers and crew turn their focus toward preparations for raceweek with the first official practice session set for Wednesday, June 14.

Gavin’s best lap came shortly after an amazingly quick engine change by the No. 64 crew. After approximately 80 minutes in the garage, it took Gavin just two laps after the swap to set the quick time.

"I took the car back out after the engine change,” he said. “By then the track had improved and we had the right tires at the right time, which the lap time showed. This is a very positive start to Le Mans 2017.”

Magnussen ended Sunday’s first session as the quickest driver in GTE Pro. The two Corvettes combined to turn 161 laps and covered more than 1,360 miles during the test. As is the team’s standard practice, it ran through a preset program of different settings and setups on the engine, chassis and Michelin tire platforms. The routine has paid off in the past with eight class victories at Le Mans since 2002 – the most recent coming in 2015.

The 85th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours is set for 3 p.m. CET/9 a.m. ET on Saturday, June 17. Practice and qualifying sessions are scheduled for June 14-15.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was a pretty good day. As far as I can remember, this was the best test day we’ve ever had. Everything went according to plan. We had to catch up with the other WEC guys to learn the WEC-spec Michelin tires, but we got there, going through a lot of different compounds and types of setup. In the end, it’s a good way to start preparing for race week.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We got through a whole lot of stuff. We managed to move along in the right direction all the time, which is good. At Le Mans, it’s always a toss-up between speed and downforce, but we’re in a good place where we are now, so overall I’m quite happy. We still have some fine-tuning to do, of course, but all in all things are looking good.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was good to get some laps in the car. Every time here it’s a bit of a learning process, but today I felt more confident than I’ve ever felt before on a Le Mans test day. The Corvette was consistent all afternoon, had good pace in it and was very comfortable to drive.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: ““We had a good morning session. We managed to get Marcel (Fässler) in the car for two hours and he was immediately on the pace, which was good given how quick the track was. He’d arrived this morning from Zolder (where he is racing in the Blancpain GT series], drove our car for two hours and then walked across the street to catch a plane back to Zolder. Tommy and I then concentrated on getting through our usual program. The car felt pretty good with just some balance issues to sort out. We also went through the various tire options, to see which one works best.

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s quite unlike us to have an engine issue, but the Corvette Racing guys worked hard, got the new engine in and got the car out in time for Olly to set the fastest time of the day. All in all, the car was fast and consistent, which is good to know. We had our program to go through knowing the others would be in their own world. We managed to get most things done, though we still have a few things to learn by next week. Race week will be totally different again.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Getting back on the track at Le Mans in a Corvette was another incredible feeling. Things felt very good, which is a credit to Corvette Racing’s level of preparation. For me, it was nice to have actual laps of Le Mans with live traffic, changing track conditions and the setup changes we ran through today. It validated much of the work we did at Road America and in simulations. There is so much that Le Mans can throw at you. But I believe we have the best and most prepared team in this race. I’m very happy after today.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “This was a successful day by many measures for Corvette Racing. We ran through our planned program of different setups, tire settings and other elements. It’s very gratifying to see all the effort that everyone at Corvette Racing - drivers, engineers and crew - pay off with a solid eight hours today at Le Mans. We have been here enough to know that you don’t win Le Mans on the Test Day. There undoubtedly will be the usual challenges that this event brings. I’m absolutely confident that Corvette Racing will be the best prepared team anywhere in the paddock when we gather again for practice and qualifying.”

CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: All About Preparation
Team eager for eight hours of track time ahead attempt at eighth class win

Corvette Racing to make 18th consecutive appearance at Le Mans
Garcia, Magnussen, Taylor reunite in No. 63 Corvette
Gavin, Milner, Fässler try to add Le Mans to last year’s Daytona, Sebring wins
Team conducted two-day private test at Road America in advance of Le Mans

DETROIT (June 1, 2017) – Corvette Racing has returned to France for the first steps toward what it hopes is a ninth class victory in 18 consecutive appearances at the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans. The annual Le Mans Test Day on Sunday will give the team – and the rest of the field – eight hours of track time ahead of the twice-round-the-clock event.

The Test Day is broken up into a pair of four-hour sessions around the 8.5-mile Circuit de la Sarthe, which is a mix of permanent race track and public roads. It will allow Corvette Racing to validate findings from its own test at Road America earlier this month. All six drivers for the Le Mans program – Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen, Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner, Jordan Taylor and Marcel Fässler – sampled the Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs in low-downforce trim and on Michelin tires specific for Le Mans.

With a number of positive developments from the test in-hand, focus turned toward making final preparations on the two Corvettes and sending them – as well as a collection of equipment – to Europe. As Corvette Racing has learned in nearly two decades, proper prep can only help in a race the magnitude of Le Mans. It certainly has helped the team win three straight events in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, where it leads the Manufacturer’s, Driver’s and Team championships in the GT Le Mans class.

Also helpful is the success that Corvette Racing has experienced in its previous 17 years. That includes eight class victories and a combined 18 wins for the six drivers.

Garcia, Magnussen and Taylor reunite together in the No. 63 Corvette C7.R for the first time since 2014 when they finished second together in the GTE Pro class. Gavin, Milner and Fässler – who share the No. 64 Corvette – have driven together for the last two years in IMSA’s premier endurance events with victories last season in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Following the Le Mans Test Day, Corvette Racing will complete final preparations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 17-18.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “There is always something to learn in testing from previous years. Once again this year, we have learned and improved on some items. We ran through a few new ideas and ways on how to make the car faster around Le Mans, and getting used to the low downforce configuration. All the drivers were happy afterward and we were all fairly consistent. I still think we can optimize things a little more. I feel really good driving our car. I think I’m at my best at the current moment. But I hope there is more room to improve and make a little more difference to the team as I can. Every day I keep focusing on trying to go a little bit faster.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “What’s most useful from a test like Road America is that you get to run through the same setups that you run at Le Mans. That way it isn’t a huge shock to the system on how the car behaves when you get to Le Mans and the Test Day. We were all quite comfortable in the direction that we are going. Everyone was pretty happy. But Le Mans is Le Mans. We don’t know what will be thrown at us when we get there. We’re well-prepared. There is a good feeling within the team of what we can do. Whether that will be good enough, only time will tell. We are all anxious to get going to see what kind of race it will be for us.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 63 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The test at Road America went really well. I only get to drive the Corvette a couple of times a year, so any track time is beneficial. It’s a little bit of an adjustment. But having guys like Antonio and Jan with me, it’s easy to look at their data and get an idea of what I need to do to get back up to speed. The whole team has been great working with me on that. But having two days at Road America was huge. It was great preparation and I felt really comfortable in the car after those days. I feel like I’m the best prepared I’ve ever been heading to Le Mans.

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The test at Road America was very positive. Everyone got lots of time on different specs of the Michelin tire. All the feedback was positive and heading in the right direction. Fundamentally the team is well-prepared. We seem to be in a really good spot in the way the team is running the races; there is good communication and data transfer across the cars, which is excellent. We’ve had Marcel in the car for Daytona and Sebring, and that has worked out very well the last couple years. The team has won three races in a row, and bringing that into Le Mans is only a good thing.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “There are always a lot of variables that go into Le Mans – track surfaces, weather and things like that. You’re never sure what you have until you get there. That’s why the Test Day is so valuable. I think we all came away from our test happy with how our car felt and we’re feeling pretty happy with our starting point for the Test Day. The engineers have done a great job with the package for the car this year and making it as nice to drive as possible for being in low downforce.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was definitely different driving the car in the low downforce kit (at Road America). In the beginning, it was not too easy to get used to. How you approach corners is much different, but I have to say the car did feel very good. For Le Mans, it’s almost like I have a new track to learn ahead of this race. So many of the corners will feel completely different (than in a prototype). The fast corners like the Porsche Curves will be a different approach. With a GT car, you are moving more and braking more than I am used to. There are other corners that will be different as well.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “We are heading back to Le Mans for our 19th consecutive time, and it is always such an honor to compete there. The importance of what this event represents is something that isn’t lost on anyone at Corvette Racing. This isn’t just a race but a true event, and it is what we work toward all year long. The Test Day is important for everyone – the drivers, engineers, crew – to reacclimate themselves with the challenges Le Mans brings every year. We have positioned ourselves for what we hope is a trouble-free Test Day, and then we can turn our attention to preparing for the world’s greatest endurance race.”

Ford Hit with Weight, Power Adjustments in Le Mans-Specific BoP
By John Dagys

Ford has been hit with a weight increase and power reduction for next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, following the release of the Balance of Performance tables for the French endurance classic.

The Le Mans-specific BoP, based on the results from last year’s race, sees wholesale changes to the turbocharged Ford GTs, which along with the Ferrari 488 GTEs, dominated the event, with a sweep of the top four positions between the two manufacturers.

The Fords will head to Le Mans with 20kg of additional weight, compared to last year, along with reduced turbo boost pressures across all RPM levels.

It translates to a 15kg weight increase and slight boost reduction from the car’s specification in the opening two rounds of this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship, under the separate automatic BoP system.

While the Ford has been hit with adjustments to weight and power, the Ferrari returns to Le Mans with no BoP changes year-to-year, remaining at a minimum weight of 1268kg and being adjusted back to the same boost levels the Prancing Horses ran at the event last year.

The only change to the Ferrari comes with a reduction in fuel capacity (-2 liters), with cuts also made to the Ford (-3 liters), Aston Martin Vantage GTE (-2 liters) and Corvette C7.R (-1 liter).

The Aston Martin has received a 10kg increase in weight and 0.4mm larger air restrictor compared to last year, with the Corvette, which equally struggled at La Sarthe in 2016, receiving a 0.7mm increase in air restrictor for this year’s race.

Porsche’s new-for-2017 mid-engined 911 RSR, meanwhile, remains essentially at the same BoP levels as its predecessor, except for a 10kg weight increase and slight 0.1mm larger air restrictor. It will have a fuel capacity of 99 liters, 1 liter more than the car from last year.

The FIA has also confirmed the BoP for the GTE-Am class, which sees adjustments in weight and power for all four cars competing in the mixed specification category.

Included are weight adjustments for the 2015-spec rear-engined Porsche 911 RSR (+10kg), Ferrari 488 GTE (-10kg) and 2016-spec Aston Martin Vantage (-5kg), with slight power or restrictor adjustments for all three models as well, compared to the recent WEC round at Spa-Francorchamps.

The GTE-Am class Corvette C7.R, which has not taken part in a WEC race this season, has been set for a 1228kg minimum weight and 29.4mm air restrictor.

Teams will have the first chance to run in the newly released specifications at the Le Mans Test day on June 4.

Graff Racing will kick off activities on Sun., June 11, with Porsche Team and Aston Martin Racing among the leading teams to go through scrutineering on the opening day, in front of thousands of fans.

ARC Bratislava will be the first team to go through on Monday, which will again see the majority of teams take part.

Additional scrutineering for the LMP1 hybrids will take place on Tuesday, as has been the case in recent years, due to the complexities of the cars.

2017 Le Mans 24 Hours - The official list of entries revealed!

Today, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, creator and organiser of the Le Mans 24 Hours, has revealed the official list of the 60 cars and full driver line-ups who will take part in the pinnacle of the FIA World Endurance Championship on 17 - 18 June.

While many teams had already communicated their drivers for the different Le Mans-type championships, they had until 11th May at midnight to send in the final line-ups for the Le Mans 24 Hours. After carrying out the usual checks, this list has been officially revealed today by the ACO.

All the drivers and cars must now undergo scrutineering and administrative checks to take part in the event.

The 179 drivers announced have licences issued by 31 different countries, and the 60 cars represent 41 teams and 16 nationalities.

Cars running under American licences are the most numerous, while France and Britain supply the most drivers with 34 each.

This year there will be only one woman driver at the start, 25-year-old Christina Nielsen from Denmark, back for her second outing in the Le Mans 24 Hours in the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 in GTE Am.

The list of entrants breaks down as follows: 6 cars in LM P1, 25 in LM P2, 13 in LM GTE Pro and 16 in LM GTE Am. Mentos Proton Racing is still on the reserve list should one of the official entries withdraw.

CORVETTE RACING AT COTA: Third Straight GTLM Victory and Championship Lead
Garcia, Magnussen win second race of 2017 in No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R

Chevrolet assumes GTLM Manufacturer’s Championship lead
Second win for Corvette Racing at Circuit of The Americas
Milner, Gavin caught up in opening-lap chaos

AUSTIN, Texas (May 6, 2017) – Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen won their second race of the season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on Saturday with a GT Le Mans (GTLM) victory in  the Advance Auto Parts SportsCar Showdown.

The victory at Circuit of The Americas for the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette gave the pairing the lead in the GTLM Driver’s Championship, as well as moved Chevrolet into first place in the class’ Manufacturer’s standings. It was the 105th all-time victory for Corvette Racing.

“This was a great result for Antonio, Jan and the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R team,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition. “Not only has Corvette Racing won three straight races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, we now lead the GTLM Manufacturer’s, Drivers and Team championships. This is a great way to head into our break for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”

Garcia and Magnussen won by 2.498 seconds after the No. 3 Corvette had led by upward of a half-minute before a late-race, full-course caution bunched the field back together for the final five minutes. The duo won at COTA for the second time together, the first coming in 2013. Unofficially, they lead the GTLM Driver’s Championship by six points after four of 11 rounds.

Chevrolet and the No. 3 Corvette squad lead the class Manufacturer’s and Team standings by six points, as well.

Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, winners last month at Long Beach in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, saw their race Saturday effectively end at the first corner of the opening lap. Milner couldn’t avoid another spinning GTLM car and also was hit from behind after the initial impact.

The No. 4 Corvette Racing crew worked quickly to replace several suspension and brake components at the front and rear. Despite the setback and multiple trips to the garage, the No. 4 Corvette finished seventh in class.

Magnussen avoided the first-turn melee from his sixth-place starting position and settled into fourth for the balance of his stint. The key point in the race came when No. 3 Corvette lead engineer Kyle Millay called in Magnussen to the pits at the 51-minute mark as another car stopped on track. Magnussen reached the pitlane before the caution flag flew and handed off to Garcia, who got a full tank of fuel and fresh Michelin tires.

None of the three leading GTLM cars made the pits before they closed, giving Garcia a huge advantage in track position when the other contenders stopped. Garcia never trailed again.

Corvette Racing’s next event is the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 17-18 from Le Mans, France. It returns to IMSA competition for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on July 2.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: "I think it is the perfect way to come back after what happened at Long Beach. We have had four races this year with zero mistakes by Corvette Racing in any of them. That is what it takes to be there if you have the pace to win. If you don't have the pace, you finish fourth - like what happened at Daytona. Then we took the win at Sebring; that one was a bit unexpected but we really worked for that.
“On pure pace we didn’t have the best car. But it is not the first time we have won here not being the fastest. It was a perfect call to pit just before the second yellow. That gave us track position. It feels like we put a lot of pressure on our competitors and they started to make mistakes. I'm very happy with that if that is what it takes. From then I just tried to maintain the gap to second place. We were all just counting down minutes and laps, and seeing how much slower I could go. I didn't care so much about the other car catching me because I don't mind winning by three seconds or 20 seconds. I knew that if there was a late yellow, which we had, I needed to have better tires.
"I don't know if I saved enough tires to be faster than (Alexander Sims), but in a way that was enough. I am very glad and very happy for Corvette Racing. It is a shame the No. 4 car had that contact at Turn One. That was very unfortunate. But again, it is three wins in a row for Corvette Racing. I think no one expected that, but that is what it takes for those results: Zero mistakes."

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: "This is a nice way to move on from what happened at Long Beach. But it was a crazy race. So much stuff happened all the way through from Turn One when a few cars got taken out and got in trouble. I got a good start and got clear of all of that. My first stint I was trying to pay good attention to the tires and give good feedback to the team to the changes that needed to be made for Antonio.  When he got in, the team made a fantastic call on that pit stop to beat everybody out… again! Then a few cars got in trouble and got some penalties that gave Antonio a massive lead which he was kind of nurturing. I don't think he was pushing too hard, just making sure not to make any mistakes. It is a fantastic result for the team. This is a really, really nice way to head to Le Mans."

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SEVENTH IN GTLM: “Our race was ultimately shaped by what happened at Turn One on Lap One. Some over-optimistic driving by some of our competitors resulted in Tommy having nowhere to go at the first corner. We basically spent the rest of the race getting our Corvette right so we could go out and complete the race. That’s the never-give-up attitude within Corvette Racing. The car felt OK at points but we were burning through the tires really quickly. When the car is as damaged as it was at the right-front and left-rear, you have to change out so many parts to get it back out. The crew at Corvette Racing did a great job and worked as fast as they could to get us back out. It was a rough day for us but congratulations to the sister car, Antonio and Jan. They ran a clean, smart race, and that’s what you need to do.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED SEVENTH IN GTLM: “It looked like one of the Fords and the Ferrari were a little off line at the exit of (Turn) One. There must have been some contact or something like that got the Ferrari coming back across the track. It looked like racing a little bit too hard at the start. We were just unlucky and got the right front into the Ferrari and then we got it from behind from someone unsuspecting as well. It’s not the way we wanted to start our race, but the guys did a great job working to get Oliver and I back out so we could get as many points as possible.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “When you’re good, you’re good. When you’re good and you’re lucky, you can be unbeatable. We had a great Corvette today, a great team effort and good fortune - all that allowed us to bring home a victory in the No. 3 C7.R. I don’t think there were many people on the grid that gave us much of a chance. Inside Corvette Racing, however, everybody believes. And today everybody executed. It’s unfortunate we lost one of the Corvettes on the first lap, we’ve been there before. Our experience came in today. Flawless execution is going to get you to the finish line. Once again Corvette Racing got there first.”

CORVETTE RACING AT COTA: Two Corvettes in Thick of Close GTLM Qualifying Battle
Magnussen within 0.2 seconds from class pole position at Circuit of The Americas

AUSTIN, Texas (May 5, 2017) – Jan Magnussen paced Corvette Racing’s qualifying efforts Friday at Circuit of The Americas with the sixth-best time in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Circuit of The Americas.

Ahead of Saturday’s Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown, Magnussen set a best lap of 2:03.030 in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R that he shares with Antonio Garcia. Magnussen’s starting position may not look promising but the gap to the head of the GTLM field is – just 0.197 seconds.

The entire GTLM category is separated by just 0.926 seconds. Tommy Milner, in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R, was eighth in class and within 0.729 seconds of the front row in class. He will drive with Oliver Gavin.

Corvette Racing won at COTA in class during 2013, and it has two victories in the first three IMSA events of 2017. Garcia and Magnussen won at Sebring (with Mike Rockenfeller) and sit second in GTLM points. Gavin and Milner were winners last month at Long Beach and are the defending series champions in class.

Chevrolet ranks second in the GTLM Manufacturer’s championship and is one point from the lead heading into Saturday’s race.

The Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown at Circuit of The Americas is set for 1:35 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 6. FOX Sports 1 will have television coverage beginning at 7 p.m. ET with live audio coverage from IMSA Radio available on IMSA.com.

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED SIXTH IN GTLM: “Sixth is nothing to celebrate but the gap to the front is a lot less than what I feared we would be looking at here. Obviously it’s going to be a super-close race. All the cars are getting lap times in different places. But at the end, everyone is about the same. For the race, it should be interesting. Strategy will play a large role. I need to do my very best to hand over Antonio a 100 percent-ready race car. ”
Where Are You Making Your Time: “It’s difficult to say. We have been working on the setup of the Corvette in all three practices. We made some good steps in the right direction. I think especially here, the two cars have gone different directions on setup and we took the best of both to make it work. I was very happy with the No. 3 Corvette. I tried to make another late run but halfway through I could see I wasn’t going to improve. The tires had peaked. Overall I’m very happy. Sixth is where I thought we were going to be regardless, but the gap to the front is a lot less that I had thought.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED EIGHTH IN GTLM: “I’d rather be further up the grid but we just missed a little bit with the setup. We had a little too much understeer. I really only had a lap to get it done, which I didn’t know until that lap! It was an OK lap; you do tend to learn every lap you run so that’s good. We have a good handle on the car direction in which to go. The No. 4 Corvette is in the window… we just need to get it a little bit better balance-wise. Considering this track has never been great to us, I feel pretty good that we can make a couple of small changes to get us closer. Jan (Magnussen) had a good qualifying run and was within two-tenths of pole. That bodes well for the pace our two Corvettes. Every year here seems be close and competitive; we’ll make a couple changes be ready to go racing tomorrow.”

CORVETTE RACING AT COTA: Early-Season Title Fight in Texas

Team looking to build on momentum after Sebring, Long Beach victories

Garcia, Magnussen 2013 winners at COTA in GT

Gavin, Milner coming off class victory at Long Beach

Chevrolet, Corvette Racing in contention for GTLM points leads

DETROIT (May 2, 2017) – Corvette Racing has started its 2017 season with two victories in its first three races. This weekend, it will go for a hat trick at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. The circuit, which opened in 2012, has played host to Corvette Racing and other top teams in sports car racing every year since 2013.

Corvette Racing won in its first time at COTA in 2013. Four years later, the twin Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs will try to give endurance racing’s premier GT race team a third straight victory in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The lineups in each Corvette are the same as in 2013; Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen in the No. 3 Corvette with Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner sharing the No. 4 entry. Garcia and Magnussen won the American Le Mans Series GT class race at Austin in 2013 and arrive at COTA sitting second in GTLM Driver’s Championship points. They also finished third last year at COTA.

Gavin and Milner are coming off a victory in the most recent GTLM round at Long Beach, which followed a win for Garcia and Magnussen at Sebring (along with Mike Rockenfeller). Those results have Chevrolet one point out of the Manufacturer’s Championship lead in the class.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Hopefully with COTA now earlier in the year it won’t be quite as hot! The track is very different than what experienced at Long Beach. There are wide-open spaces in the runoff areas so you can be a little more aggressive with your driving. I obviously have some good memories of winning at COTA a few years ago, but it’s time for new ones. Let’s hope it happens this weekend.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The one thing we all are looking for at COTA this year are cooler temperatures. If we get them, hopefully that means the track conditions will be more favorable to us than in past years. Through three races, Antonio and I are in good standing for the GTLM Championship. It’s quite a big difference compared to last year when we couldn’t seem to catch a good break. Hopefully we can continue to earn good results and points to see where we are with a couple races to go.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “COTA is one of the few circuits where I haven’t won a race, and I’m eager to change that. It’s quite different than pretty much every other place we visit. The look of the facility and the smoothness of the track are pretty unique. You can take more risks here than normal with all the tarmac in the runoffs at COTA. All in all, it’s a very difficult challenge but one that everyone at Corvette Racing is ready to embrace.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I enjoy driving at Circuit of The Americas every year. We race at a lot of terrific venues each year, but to compete at one like COTA is a real thrill. Oliver and I haven’t had a lot of success there over the years but this would be a great way to keep our momentum going. It’s never an easy task in this class but this can be a big weekend for everyone at Corvette Racing if the execution and strategy is right. I’m looking forward to it.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “Two wins in the first three races of the season is a pretty darn good start. What's more encouraging is that both Corvettes have shown they can compete for race wins and work toward another GTLM championship. Circuit of The Americas will present a difficult challenge – as it always has. Hopefully, the stars at Corvette will end up being the brightest in the skies over Texas!”

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Victory for Gavin, Milner in No. 4 Corvette
Sixth victory for team at action-packed street circuit

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 8, 2017) – Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner won the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class at Saturday’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix of Long Beach in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. It is the sixth class win for the team and Chevrolet at the historic Long Beach street circuit.

Gavin won for the fourth time at Long Beach, and the victory was Milner’s second at the event. They won together in 2012, and on Saturday came from sixth at the start to record a surprising but rewarding victory in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

“After a hard-fought battle, it was rewarding to see Tommy Milner roll the No. 4 Corvette C7.R into Victory Lane today at Long Beach,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Tommy and Oliver Gavin overcame adversity early in the race to be there at the end to capture the win.”

Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen, coming off a GTLM victory at Sebring three weeks ago, placed fifth in class Saturday with their No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. Garcia seemed headed for certain victory until a multi-car incident at the final turn blocked the track and brought a handful of cars to a stop – including both Corvettes. Garcia became trapped on the left-hand side of the track while Milner, on the right-hand side, was able to slip through the traffic jam and won by 1.830 seconds.

The two Corvettes found themselves running 1-2 in class with 10 minutes left despite different race strategies. Magnussen was caught up in an opening-lap incident and suffered damage to the front of the No. 3 Corvette C7.R. Garcia drove the final 78 minutes on the same set of Michelin tires and tank of fuel, aided by five full-course caution periods.

Gavin drove the first 42 minutes in the No. 4 Corvette before handing off to Milner. Not long after Milner left the pitlane, an incident – similar to the once that impacted the race’s finish – blocked the final turn with Milner stuck in the outside lane. Nearly an hour later, he found himself approaching the same situation but chose to take the inside line. As it turned out, it again was the lane that was able to clear the pileup.

“While the outcome of the late local caution was frustrating, it is the never-give-up attitude of everyone at Corvette Racing that continues to result in these exciting races and finishes,” Campbell said. “We had two strong race cars today and look forward to the next race at COTA."

The next race for Corvette Racing is the Advance Auto Parts SportsCar Showdown on May 4-6 from Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. FOX Sports 1 will air the race at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 6. Live coverage will be available on FOX Sports Go with live audio coverage from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: “This was a very bizarre day and finish. We will take this victory, and we’re glad that Corvette Racing and Chevrolet have won again at Long Beach. It was just a very unfortunate way that it worked out for Antonio and Jan. We’ve all raced together for so many years now. It’s definitely not the way Tommy and I would have liked to have won. But at the end of the day, a victory is a victory. The good thing for Tommy and I is that it has gotten us back in a good direction heading to COTA for the next round.
“The start was pretty interesting. Coming down into Turn One, it looked like Jan had been jumped by a couple of cars. On first laps here, you’re always looking to see who has their tires up to temperatures, who is using a little bit of extra road and who is taking chances. When I came to Turn Five, the Patron car was already backward going over the apex curb. Knowing that the camber falls away, I knew everyone would be going outside and into the wall. Three of us managed to avoid any contact and got through. From there, it was a lot of insane racing. “Yes it’s a 100-minute race but some people were trying to win it with 75 or 80 minutes left. My goal was to keep the Corvette clean and hand it off to Tommy at the appropriate point whenever the team called us in. We managed to do that and our crew managed to get us out and in front of the cars we felt we were racing. Even past that point, the race kept getting turned on its head. You never knew which way it was going to go.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: “It was a weird race today for sure. There was a lot of giving and taking throughout the day. As for the finish, I’ve never seen things work out that way for me or anyone else for that matter. You feel bad for the No. 3 guys, for Antonio and Jan. They had a great race and did everything right. It was just unlucky to lose it that way in a big pack. You need luck in racing sometimes, and today we had that on our side. It feels good for us to get a win and to get points for our No. 4 Corvette and Chevrolet.
“We were a bit behind at one point and it didn’t look like our strategy would play out for us. All those cautions allowed the cars who pitted early could make it on one stop for fuel. Our hope was to get past them if they had to make a late splash for fuel. That didn’t happen. I was hoping for another yellow to get us bunched back up again, which is what happened. I had 13- or 14-lap newer tires and I was able to get around the 24 and I went door-to-door with the 67. That allowed Antonio to get out in the clear, and then so was I. He was quick but then his tires started to go away. In that situation, getting by him was going to be really tough.
“In the last corner at the end, my first reaction was that the race was over. Antonio had a gap over me and also over the 67. I figured it would end up like that but I heard on the radio that there was another crash at the hairpin. At first the track was clear and then it wasn’t. I was in that exact situation earlier in the race and went to the outside; it didn’t work and I lost a spot there. I went to the inside this time, and it opened up. When I got out of the hairpin, I saw green but thought the race was over until they told me on the radio that we had won. It was definitely an unusual way to take a victory. Now we have to regroup as a team and get ready for the next race at COTA.”

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FIFTH IN GTLM: “I’ve never been part of a finish like that. It’s for sure very difficult to go through; I’m very confused with how the officials judged both incidents in the last corner. Our No. 3 Corvette team did everything we needed to do in order to have the best chance at another victory. I don’t understand the ending and unfortunately for us the results are what they are. All we can do is put ourselves in position to go for a win the next race in Austin.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FIFTH IN GTLM: “The start was unfortunate. I didn’t get a good getaway. I kind of got swamped going into Turn One. Then I was just in the wrong place going in to Turn Five when the Ferrari got it wrong with one of the prototype. I got caught in all of that and set put us back. We were on a different strategy from there. Our team did a fantastic job. It just an unsatisfying result.”

GM Press Release

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Magnussen Roars to GTLM Pole Position
Third time as fastest qualifier at Long Beach – two others led to race wins

Magnussen, Garcia come in off GTLM victory at Sebring
Gavin sixth in ultra-close class qualifying battle
Corvette Racing going for sixth class win at Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 7, 2017) – Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen captured his third class pole position on the streets of Long Beach on Friday. If previous years are any indication, Saturday could be a very good day for the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R.

Magnussen set a GT Le Mans (GTLM) class record in qualifying for the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix of Long Beach with a lap of 1:16.090 (92.1 mph) in the Corvette he shares with Antonio Garcia. The veteran also won pole position for Corvette Racing at Long Beach in 2008 and 2014. Both times, he went on to victory including three years ago with Garcia. Magnussen and Garcia also won last year at VIR after Magnussen scored an overall pole position.

"It was an outstanding effort by Jan and everyone on the Corvette Racing team today in qualifying,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition. “This is a great result coming off the victory at Sebring and bodes well for our chances at a sixth Long Beach class win tomorrow."

Qualifying was extremely competitive with only 0.578 seconds covering eight GTLM cars. That included Oliver Gavin, who was sixth in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R with a lap of 1:17.115 (91.9 mph). He and teammate Tommy Milner were runners-up last year in class at Long Beach and won the 2012 race together.

Both Corvettes showed strong pace in the two practice sessions Friday ahead of qualifying. That should be no surprise considering Corvette Racing has won five times at Long Beach. The four Corvette Racing drivers have combined to win seven times at Long Beach. It’s an impressive record on such an historic course.

Magnussen and Garcia also are coming off a GTLM victory at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the most recent round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. It moved them to second in GTLM Driver’s Championship points; Chevrolet holds the same position in the Manufacturer’s Championship.

The Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 8 from the famed Long Beach Street Circuit. FOX will have live coverage beginning at 4 p.m. ET with live audio coverage from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FASTEST QUALIFIER IN GTLM: “Qualifying here is a fantastic experience. I love this place. It’s one of my favorite tracks. Qualifying at any street circuit is always special. You can get so close to the walls… as long as you bring it back fastest you can scrape it a little bit! The Corvette was good. We had a good session just prior to qualifying where we did a simulation where we found a couple of areas where we could change a little bit. Those were good changes and allowed us to find what we needed.”

DID YOU THINK THE CAR HAD THAT IN IT? "It did feel like that this morning, but that can guide you off in the wrong direction. But it did feel like if the track gripped up then, the Corvette would be super nice to drive. So this session the car did bog down, so we made some changes for that. I think that the engineers found that last little bit that they needed.”
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IN THE FRONT HERE CAN'T BE OVERSTATED: "Of course it is important – track position here when everybody is this close. (Oliver) Gavin is P5 and he is just two tenths back. It's pretty crazy… absolutely crazy. Track position is going to matter here. You have to fight for your position."

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED SIXTH IN GTLM: "It was a frustrating session for sure. The session before we were in P1 and I really thought we were in a good spot. The car felt great. We made a small adjustment, and I was just waiting for everything to come together. I had a good lap going. I came through Turn 10 and into 11… that is the corner where maybe I've been not quite so natural through. And I just made an absolute dog's dinner of it. That is where any chance of me getting pole just disappeared and went. Then when we got bumped to P6, I was just ‘what!’ I couldn't believe it. I wanted to make it so both cars were on the sharp end. That is where both cars should be. I'm frustrated now that we have made it harder on ourselves. But that seems to be the story of our year so far. It isn't exactly going smoothly for us. It's a shame. Congrats to Jan. He had a fantastic lap. I’m glad one of our cars is there in P1. It's turning into a good season for them."

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Westward Bound with Momentum In-Hand
Five class wins at historic street circuit for sport’s leading GT program

All four Corvette Racing drivers have won at Long Beach
Garcia, Magnussen coming off Sebring GTLM victory
Gavin, Milner second in last year’s Long Beach GTLM race

DETROIT (April 4, 2017) – Three weeks after winning one of the longest races on its schedule for the 11th time, Corvette Racing will attempt to score a sixth victory in the shortest event. America’s leading GT sports car team heads to Long Beach, California, this weekend for the third round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix of Long Beach is a 100-minute street fight, which will air live on FOX starting at 1 p.m. PT. The race is one that Corvette Racing has won five times in 10 appearances, which shows the team’s capability in winning at any type of track or in event duration.

Four familiar faces return to Long Beach in the pair of yellow Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs. Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen, in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R, arrive following a victory at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. They won at Long Beach in 2014 – the first victory for the Corvette C7.R. In the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner look to right their season following misfortune in the opening two rounds of the year.

The four Corvette Racing drivers have combined to win seven times at Long Beach. It’s an impressive record on such an historic course. The 11-turn, 1.968-mile street circuit has played host to the Grand Prix of Long Beach event weekend for 42 years, and its location along the Pacific Coast makes it one of the most scenic and recognized in the world.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The end of Sebring was pretty amazing. But it’s time for us to move on to Long Beach. It is a circuit I enjoy very much as it demands you to be extremely precise. That goes for not just the drivers but also the engineers and crew. The short duration of the race means you will make one stop and have one chance on the strategy. When you see how Corvette Racing performed in the pits at Daytona and Sebring, it’s easy to see why I have so much confidence in our team.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It feels great to win a race like Sebring this early in the year. Anytime you’re in the points race heading to a place like Long Beach is a good thing. Anything can happen there as we have seen in the past. Antonio and I are usually very strong there, and I personally really like Long Beach. There is such a small margin for error that you have to find just the right limit of taking risks. One small mistake in the wrong place can cost you significantly with little or no time to make up ground. Fortunately for us, Corvette Racing has a lot of data and experience to put us in the best position to take another win. It’s one I definitely would like to achieve.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Admittedly we aren’t in the position we’d like to be in after the first two races. Almost all that comes down to bad fortune for myself, Tommy and our No. 4 Corvette team. The goal we have is to start accumulating as many points as we can each weekend and not get too desperate for a win. We have a great chance at Long Beach to make up some ground in the championship. Our Corvette has been really solid so far this year. We just need to put together a full race to have things go our way.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The kindest thing I can say about last year’s race at Long Beach is that the finish was very unfortunate. So this weekend is a race I’d very much like to win. It has been a rough start on the No. 4 Corvette side – all chalked up to bad luck – and a good result at Long Beach would help start our turnaround. Oliver and I have complete confidence in the team at Corvette Racing get us headed in the right direction.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “After opening at Daytona and Sebring, what a huge difference it is coming to Long Beach each year. This race is truly one-of-a-kind for everyone at Corvette Racing. Long Beach rewards teams that come in prepared and with a well-sorted racecar, strategy and crew. We have each of those three elements at Corvette Racing. We’ve been up to the task many times in the past at Long Beach. We expect to give the large crowds the same again this year.”

Yes it is. But Doug is frustrated as he can't seem to get the word out to people to support it.

CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Stirring Comeback for No. 3 Corvette C7.R
Corvette Racing takes third straight and 11th class victory in 12 Hours

Garcia, Magnussen, Rockenfeller complete stunning turnaround
25th Sebring class win for Chevrolet-powered entries
No. 4 Corvette suffers from overheating issue

SEBRING, Fla. (March 18, 2017) – Corvette Racing stormed to a stunning class victory in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida on Saturday – its third straight in North America’s oldest endurance sports car race. Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller drove the winning No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R to a 4.453-second victory for the team’s 11th Sebring class victory.

It ended an amazing comeback for the No. 3 Corvette, which ran sixth as late as the eight-and-a-half-hour mark of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s second round. After maintaining through difficult conditions and bad luck in the afternoon, a series of strategic calls, strong pit stops and exceptional driving resulted in another Sebring triumph for America’s sports car.

Garcia drove a stunning final two hours and 53 minutes to claim victory. He led the final 35 laps and withstood intense pressure from other contenders in the class. While Sebring’s brutal conditions and bad luck began to claim other entries, the No. 3 Corvette and its team ran a nearly flawless race.

Saturday’s victory was Magnussen’s fifth at Sebring, the third for Garcia and first for Rockenfeller. The trio also won the second of four Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup rounds of the season.

The No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R was forced to retire with water temperature issues that arose in the opening hour. The root cause remained unclear, and it brought an early end to the day for defending class winners Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin and Marcel Fässler.

Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller each rotated through with two stints each in the first six hours. The No. 3 Corvette C7.R led at the three-hour mark but a combination of greasy track conditions and bad luck with traffic and caution periods hindered its standing at six hours.

An emergency stop for fuel near the halfway point was particularly cruel. Rockenfeller was set to pit for new Michelin tires, fuel and the exchange to Garcia but the yellow flag ruined that plan and strategy. Instead, Rockenfeller had to stop for five seconds of fuel and then again one lap after the GTLM leaders completed their stops.

Fortunes reversed for the No. 3 Corvette with a timely full-course caution with four hours left. A perfect pit stop moved Magnussen from sixth to third on a restart. That the stage for the late-race heroics.

The next event for Corvette Racing is the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix on Saturday, April 8 from the Long Beach (California) street circuit. The race will air live at 4 p.m. on FOX. Live audio coverage from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R - GTLM RACE WINNER: “I knew it was going to be really, really tough. Since yesterday in qualifying it was super close, the first two hours I managed to make my way up to P2. I did two hours first following the No. 66. Then I did that third hour and I was kind of sick of following Fords. So at some point I just needed to go. We made that really good call to come in with the Ferrari. So the Fords stayed out on a poorer set of tires than us. I knew that had to be my stint. That first stint with two or three stints to go, I needed to make the moves and pass the Ferrari. I passed the No. 68; I passed (Scott) Dixon. I passed everybody because I knew it had to be done then because that was probably the only time they would be a little bit weaker than we were. It worked. At the end the Porsche looked very, very strong. That second-to-the-last time they pitted quite a bit later than us, and they were flying. They passed all the way up to us until that last safety car. Again, there was a magnificent stop by the Corvette Racing crew. I think the Porsche made a mistake there. Without knowing, I thought it was Joey (Hand) behind us, but it was again the Porsche. I knew it was going to be tough. I didn’t know if I was going to be able to hold him , but probably. The car kept going faster and faster. When you lead the way, the aero works pretty decent compared to when you follow someone. At the end things went a little bit in our favor. It was a sprint to the end. I can’t believe what Corvette Racing did today. Just awesome. Amazing.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: “I don’t even know where to start. What a fantastic race. It was a tough race… a hard race. I mean I am so happy about this. The boys did a great job with the pit stops. Antonio’s last stint there was just fantastic. What can you say? It is just fantastic. It was all about running our own race and then at the end when we had to do something, to then be able to do it. The crew – those last couple of pit stops – awesome. As I said Antonio’s last stint… just fantastic!”

MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: “It is still hard to believe right now because I didn’t expect it.  We had a tough race, and Antonio (Garcia) did just a fantastic job – like always. But it is very special what he got out of the car today. That is why I am speechless. I am very happy for the team. Thanks to Corvette Racing and everyone on the teams – all the mechanics and engineers. They always believe. We had a tough start in Daytona and even here. We weren’t the quickest all the time, but at the end when it counted, we were there. This team is just amazing!”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “I think what we saw tonight may have been the most intense mix of tremendous engineering and strategy from our engineering crew and flawless pit stops all day long by our Corvette Racing crew. Then there was the driving exhibition that I’m sure will be a highlight of Antonio’s career - certainly at Corvette Racing. When you put those three elements together, we are hard to beat. It was an amazing demonstration by everyone at Corvette Racing.”

Chevrolet, Sebring International Raceway Extend Marketing Partnership

Chevrolet continues as Official Vehicle of Sebring

DETROIT (March 13, 2017) – Chevrolet and Sebring International Raceway confirmed today an extension of their marketing partnership as the two groups head into the 65th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida.

“It’s a pleasure for Chevrolet to continue our relationship with Sebring International Raceway,” said Michael Stouffer, Chevrolet Marketing Motorsports Manager. “This partnership allows us to showcase Chevrolet and the Corvette brand on one of the biggest stages in global sports car racing. Sebring is steeped in tradition, and we are proud to play a significant role in the race’s history with a number of victories and important moments.”

Chevrolet continues to serve as the Official Vehicle of Sebring – one of multiple, mutual benefits for both sides. Chevrolet also is displayed prominently around the track with high-visibility signage including the famed Turn One walkover bridge along with additional significant activations at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Sebring International Raceway originated from a WWII B-17 training base known as Hendricks Field. Since 1952, Sebring has hosted the 12-hour classic that has annually attracted the world’s finest cars and drivers. The demanding 3.74-mile circuit is considered among the toughest tracks in the world.

“Sebring International Raceway and Chevrolet are proud partners, and our fans are Corvette fans,” said Wayne Estes, President and General Manager of Sebring International Raceway. “It is most fitting that Corvette will pace the field for the 65th running of America’s classic sports car race.”

Here is the Press Relase:

CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: Hard-Fought Result for No. 3 Corvette C7.R
Excellent pit work, never-give-up spirit highlights 2017 opener

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2017) –Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller led Corvette Racing’s effort in the GT Le Mans class of the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Sunday. The No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R placed fourth in a battle that saw the top seven entries separated by 7.5 seconds after a grueling opening race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The No. 3 Corvette ran a nearly perfect race with no mistakes and incredible performances in pitlane. With a majority of the race run in cold, damp conditions, the Corvette Racing team found itself in position to challenge for a third straight Rolex 24 class victory heading into the final three hours.

Twice in the final two hours, the No. 3 Corvette crew sent Garcia out in the lead – making up four spots on the penultimate stop and three on the final stop. Over the last three stops of the race, the No. 3 Corvette gained nine positions. Garcia eventually finished 4.593 behind the class winner after coming back from a lap down in the early morning hours that saw rain soak Daytona International Speedway for more than 12 hours.

"It was a very good race today,” said Mark Reuss, Executive Vice President, Global Product Development, General Motors. “Everybody was on the same lap there in the end. All the manufacturers placed there one through four, so it was really a good race.

“They (Corvette Racing) never give up. They never lose hope. I think we won in the pits. I watched them beat all the other teams many times. This is a tough race to win. They did a great job, and I am very proud of the Corvette team."

The No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R, the class-winner in 2016, placed ninth in GTLM after suffering a loss of power and a broken right-rear lower control arm following contact with another GTLM competitor near the six-hour mark. Gavin, Milner and Fässler all cycled through in the cold and wet conditions to help support the team’s strategy for the No. 3 Corvette.

The next event for Corvette Racing is the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida on March 15-18 from Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida. The race will air from 12:30-11 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. Corvette Racing has won at Sebring 10 times since 2001.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM: “I think we need to be happy with the race we had. In any race, you have to do your best and take it to 100 percent and more. Corvette Racing did that today - optimizing everything we had to have a perfect race and a perfect Corvette to the end. What else can you say about the pit stops? We made up so many positions and came out first so many times. When you have all that and don’t have the pace to keep it, it’s a shame. We gave everything we had. We congratulate the winners.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM: “It wasn’t what we wanted. We were just lacking a little bit of the speed that we needed to be able to fight at the end there. The team did a fantastic job there throughout the event. The pit work today was absolutely fantastic. We came out in front almost every time. Unfortunately we didn’t quite have the speed to stay there. Antonio did a fantastic job at the end, and Rocky drove really well too. This is a great group of drivers with a great crew, a great team and a great car in the Corvette. It just wasn’t quite enough this time.”

MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM: “We did all we could to try and win the race. The result is pretty much what we kind of expected after practice sessions if you look at the pure speed we had. Even though we had a good chance at the end, we knew it likely wouldn’t be for long because you need to have speed on the straights. We just didn’t have enough to stay ahead of the others but I have to say thanks to my teammates and my team. It was good fun in these difficult conditions. We kept fighting till the end. It was nice to be there at the end to feel the emotion of maybe winning the race. We were there again although not as close as last year. Everyone tried hard, and that’s racing. Congratulations to the 66 car. I think they deserved it. Today just wasn’t for us.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED NINTH IN GTLM: “The first lap, as it always is here, was difficult to weigh the risks of looking to pass someone, shooting a gap with so many cars. You try to weigh the risks. It was a good first couple of laps. I was able to pass a couple of cars and it seemed to go backward and forward. Overall it was a good first stint. I was pleased to get it done and out of the way.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED NINTH IN GTLM: "I was having fun which is a positive thing. We were so far behind that we were just trying to get laps back and doing everything we were supposed to. We were competitive aside from the incidents, which also makes it more fun. So some you win, some you don't. With the contact early on and then the electrical problem we had, that is racing. Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn’t.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED NINTH IN GTLM: “In those difficult conditions the only thing you can do is stay patient and stay on the track. It is really very easy to make big mistakes. It was very tough. Behind the spray on restarts you couldn’t see. We had to survive these showers before we could push again.”

CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: Focus Turns to Run for Fourth Rolex 24 Win

Magnussen leads Corvette Racing qualifying efforts in No. 3 Corvette C7.R

Corvette Racing finished 1-2 in 2016, separated by just 0.034 seconds at finish
Team can become first in nearly a decade to win three straight Rolex 24s
Chevrolet the most successful manufacturer at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2017) – Corvette Racing will go for a third straight class victory in the Rolex 24 At Daytona from the fourth and fifth rows of the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class following qualifying Thursday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway.

A trio of practice sessions and time trials will give way to a final single practice Friday before the official start of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on Saturday. When it gets under way, Jan Magnussen will start the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R seventh after a lap of 1:44.359 (x mph). In the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, Oliver Gavin will roll off ninth from the grid following his best lap of 1:44.685 (x mph).

Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler won last year’s Rolex 24 in GTLM in a thrilling race that saw the two Corvettes separated by just 0.034 seconds at the finish. Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Mike Rockenfeller were runners-up a year after the No. 3 Corvette C7.R won the race in 2015.

For reference the two Corvettes qualified seventh and eighth last season, and the gap to the class pole-winner was much closer Thursday.

The Rolex 24 was the site of Corvette Racing’s debut on Jan. 31, 1999. Since that first race, the team has competed in more than 170 events around the globe with 102 victories worldwide – including five wins in 2016 – along with 11 Manufacturer and Team championships in the American Le Mans Series and WeatherTech Championship to go along with eight victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The 55th Rolex 24 At Daytona is the start of the 2017 IMSA season and is set for 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 28. It will air on live on FOX beginning at 2 p.m. ET with coverage also on FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and FOX Sports Go. Live audio coverage from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com. JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED SEVENTH IN GTLM: "It's been a little tougher than everyone expected coming back here for the race weekend. I think everyone left the Roar pretty happy with how the Corvette was handling and how we were stacking up against everyone else. But today for sure, we've been struggling a little bit. Qualifying I think is a good indication of where we are right now. It will be a tough race ahead of us."

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED NINTH IN GTLM: "The session was OK. We were struggling a little bit with the balance. It seems like this weekend has been very different than how the two tests have gone - the Roar earlier this month and the test in December. It is warmer now, and also the wind direction is very different. There is a lot of sand on the track. That has been playing with us a little bit. I know it is the same for everyone. But I just think we are just slightly outside of our window to get the car to operate in a comfortable spot for us. But as we know, in qualifying here it is nice to be in the front, but it certainly is not everything. This is race is long and tough. There are many sort of treacherous points you have to get through. We are mindful of that and just need to be there at the end to race whoever is left. Hopefully our car will come to us. That is the way we are thinking. Temperatures are certainly going to cool down and we might get some rain. This race, like I said, is long and tough with many hurdles that will be thrown in front of us. No, we aren't exactly where we want to be. But we know there are many things we an do to changes that we can do to change our position. We will be pushing just as hard as we always do to try and get that Corvette win like we did last year."

Team can become the first in nearly a decade to win three straight Rolex 24s
Chevrolet the most successful manufacturer at Daytona

DETROIT (Jan. 24, 2017) – One year ago, Corvette Racing produced one of the most iconic finishes in sports car racing history in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Now for the obvious question: what will be the encore?

The 1-2 GT Le Mans (GTLM) class finish in the 2016 Rolex 24 – where Corvette Racing’s two Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs set an event record for closest margin of victory – is one that won’t be forgotten any time soon. Now it’s time to create another chapter in Corvette Racing’s Daytona legacy. It’s one that includes three victories in six starts including an overall victory in 2001.

Another one this year would be three straight and would make Corvette Racing the first team in nearly a decade to claim three consecutive Rolex 24 race wins. To do so, the team will rely on much of the same personnel that was part of last year’s thrilling victory.

In the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, defending Rolex 24 champions Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler are back after each claimed their first career victories in the event. It also started a run that resulted in a sweep of the GTLM Manufacturer’s, Driver’s and Team titles for Chevrolet, Milner and Gavin, and Corvette Racing.

In the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, the trio of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller reunite after a thrilling chase to the finish in 2016. Garcia and Magnussen placed third in the GTLM Championship in 2016 on the strength of an overall victory at VIR.

There isn’t a manufacturer with more success at Daytona than Chevrolet. The Bowtie Brand has more than 40 victories to its credit at Daytona in the top levels of sports car and stock car racing.

Corvette Racing Display

The start of the 2017 also means the return of the Chevrolet’s Corvette Racing Display. From Friday through Sunday, fans on-hand for the Rolex 24 At Daytona can view and learn about a wide variety of Chevrolet vehicles and performance parts in the Daytona International Speedway infield midway. Among the Chevrolet attractions at Daytona include:

• Chevrolet production vehicles such as the Camaro SS 50th Anniversary Edition, Colorado Z71, Corvette Grand Sport, Corvette Stingray, Cruze, Impala, Malibu, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Volt, Traverse and SS.

• A Corvette C7.R show car

• The new 2018 Next Gen Equinox

• Samples of Chevrolet engines, performance parts and accessories available to fans for purchase from their local Chevrolet dealer

• A variety of Chevrolet and racing related activities for adults and kids

• Commemorative t-shirts for fans who sign up with Corvette Racing.

The Corvette Racing display opens 9 a.m., Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. Sunday.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I feel we are as prepared as we can be heading into the Rolex 24. In this race you never really know, however. There are a lot of variables and things that can happen that are out of your control. What we focus on are things that we can control. In that sense I think we are in good shape. Everyone at Corvette Racing knows what it takes to win this race. We all do our jobs to the best of our abilities, and more often than not it is enough to win. I’ve been fortunate enough to win the Rolex 24 twice, and a third would be a great way to erase last year’s finish and get our season off to the best start.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “We feel confident for this year’s Rolex 24. Historically we have been very good here as the last two years have shown with two wins and two more podiums between our two cars. The key is that the Corvette is a very well balanced car that has good stability and power along with very good braking. In a lot of ways, the Rolex 24 is very different from a race like Le Mans. Temperatures will be much colder and there is much more running in the dark, although the speedway lights help. We know how big a challenge this will be but there is a high level of experience we can all fall back on. I’m definitely excited.”

MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The race week is always very compressed so you have almost no time to really develop the car or make any big setup changes. The Corvette hasn’t really changed since last year so we have our baseline for the Rolex 24. There still are things we can fine-tune and work on things like driver changes and pit stops. Everyone needs to work together perfectly to finish the race and have a chance at victory.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: ““You always try to learn everything you can from last year. Yes, it was an amazing finish but it was by no means perfect. We had our issues along the way and some things that didn’t quite run to plan. But with this race, you know you have to be there at the end. Even if you have a problem at the start and you go a couple of laps down, the way the caution periods and wave-by systems work, you can often make that up. Ultimately you need to stay smart and clean to keep the car on the lead lap in the last couple of hours where you can really push hard and see where you stack up. The competition is fierce, and it always is. It’s ratcheted up again just another level. It seems like we say that a lot but it’s very true. You can’t ever take your eye off it to be ready every lap. Nothing is ever given to you.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “What happened at the Roar was disappointing, but I don’t feel that there is a better team to rebound than Corvette Racing. We’ve seen it many times where our backs feel like they are against the wall and we somehow overcome that adversity. So this is another opportunity for us to do it again. Oliver, Marcel and I make a very strong team as we saw last year. It gives you a ton of confidence to know you have teammates of their caliber plus the experience and never-give-up attitude of everyone at Corvette Racing. This is a big challenge for us all, but we say bring it on.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I have to say that the finish of last year’s race will be something I will never forget. It was my first Daytona and I didn’t expect to win right away. It was a great race and probably the best finish I’ve ever seen in motorsport. The experience was fantastic to come here with Corvette Racing and win immediately. With all the experience from last season and the test here in December, I can find driving the Corvette much easier and find the pace much quicker. The confidence for me is definitely there.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “It is always a huge thrill for us to return to Daytona each year for the Rolex 24. This was the first race for the Corvette Racing program so it’s like coming full circle each year we come back. We have had a full year to reflect on last year’s record finish and it’s time to create new highlights. We are well equipped for the challenge again with our key strengths: the experience and continuity of everyone at Corvette Racing. The Corvette C7.R is proven. The crew, the engineers and the drivers are all proven. Considering the intensity of racing in the GT Le Mans class, those are vital components that can make the difference in a race like the Rolex 24. We are hoping for another classic!”

IMSA Confirms Rolex 24 BoP

By

Updated: January 19, 2017

IMSA has confirmed the Balance of Performance for next weekend’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, with minimal changes having been made to the new-for-2017 Prototype class and wholesale adjustments for the GT Daytona contenders since the Roar Before the 24.

The sanctioning body issued the BoP to teams on Thursday evening, more than a day after a draft version was sent between manufacturers internally prior to official approval.

(IMSA bulletin:  http://competitors.imsa.com/sites/def ... -12_p_pc_gtlm_gtd_bop.pdf )

The Nissan Onroak DPi has been given an increase in boost ratio, across all power levels, while also gaining 5 liters in fuel capacity. While power levels were not adjusted for the Mazda RT24-P, it will have a 2 liters of additional fuel as well.

Aero adjustments, meanwhile, have been made for all cars except the Gibson-powered Ligier JS P217 and Oreca 07s. The changes mainly deal with the rear wings.

GT Le Mans competitors have also faced only minor adjustments, with the Ferrari 488 GTE car given a slight boost reduction and changes in the minimum rear wing angle for the BMW M6 GTLM, Ford GT and Porsche 911 RSR.

The BMW has lost 2 liters of fuel capacity, with both the Ferrari and Ford gaining 2 liters and the Porsche adding 1 liter.

The most changes have been made in the GT Daytona class, with every car except the BMW M6 GT3 having been adjusted in some form.

The Acura NSX GT3 has lost 20kg of minimum weight, plus an 8-liter increase in fuel capacity, while the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 loses 10kg and gets a 0.8mm larger air restrictor.

Audi’s R8 LMS has been slowed with a 1.0mm air restrictor reduction, while the Ferrari 488 GT3 has been handed 10kg of additional weight but a slight increase in boost ratio, across all power levels.

Both the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and Porsche 911 GT3 R will also have 1.0mm smaller air restrictors, with the Lexus RC F GT3 getting a 1.0mm increase, but with 10kg of additional weight.

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 will have a 1.5mm reduction in air restrictor for the race as well.

Prototype Challenge cars, meanwhile, have been given a 5-liter reduction in fuel capacity and a smaller refueling restrictor.

GM Press Release:

CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: Roaring Toward Chance at Three Straight Wins
Three-day test at Daytona for three-time Rolex 24 class winner

First step toward defending Manufacturer’s, Driver’s and Team’s championships
All six Corvette Racing endurance drivers set to attend
Corvette Racing finished 1-2 in 2016, separated by just 0.034 seconds at finish

DETROIT (Jan. 4, 2017) – It’s time for Corvette Racing to again head back to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway for the first testing laps of 2017. The offseason hasn’t been much of one for the defending GT Le Mans (GTLM) titlists in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. But offseason becomes preseason with this weekend’s Roar Before the 24 and the prelude to the 55th Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Corvette Racing heads into 2017 with back-to-back wins at the Rolex 24 and a total of three victories in six starts at Daytona. The successes in 2016 and 2015 can be traced back to good showings at the Roar, where WeatherTech teams can get upward of 12 hours of valuable track time.

Since the end of the 2016 IMSA season, Corvette Racing has focused on multiple areas of system development, operational enhancements and Michelin tire selections to bolster what is perennially one of sports car racing’s best programs. In 2016, Corvette Racing won five times (the most in GTLM) and swept all six class championships: Manufacturer, Driver and Team.

Last year’s Rolex 24 saw Corvette Racing finish 1-2 in GTLM with the two Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs separated by just 0.034 seconds at the checkered flag – the closest finish in Rolex 24 history regardless of class.

Defending champions Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler are back in the last year’s race-winning No. 4 Corvette C7.R. It was the first Rolex 24 win for all three drivers, who also won together in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Those two victories along with triumphs at Lime Rock and Road America helped Gavin and Milner to the GTLM Driver’s Championship as well as the Manufacturer’s title for Chevrolet.

Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller were second in last year’s race driving the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. Garcia and Magnussen were part of the 2015 class-winning lineup for Corvette Racing and were overall winners at VIR in 2016.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “The time since Petit Le Mans has been very busy for us with multiple tests of our Corvettes, some new system improvements and tires from Michelin. So while there has not been much of an offseason, I feel like we are very well prepared for this year’s Roar at Daytona. Corvette Racing has won the last two years there in GTLM and the nature of the track seems to be very good for us. This is an important three days coming up with not a lot of time for any other big changes to the car once we return for the race. The goal is to leave the Roar with a good plan and setup for the Rolex 24.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I feel like this has been one of the busiest offseasons that I’ve had since joining Corvette Racing. Unlike this time last year where we were working on a new aero package and revised bodywork, the development for this year has been more subtle but still very important. Every improvement we make in testing puts us in that much better position heading to the Daytona race. I think we have used our time wisely.”

MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Getting back into the Corvette C7.R last month was very beneficial. You can never get enough laps especially ahead of a race like Daytona. I’m really excited to keep working through programs and strategies with the engineers and team. A lot of work has gone on since the last race of 2016. I am confident this will help us as we get closer to the Rolex 24.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It was nice going back to Daytona last month for the two-day test. It brought back memories of last year’s race and finish, and I’m sure there will be more of that to come between now and the race. We’ve been able to accomplish a lot in our testing in October through December, which will bode well for how we approach the Roar. We know how well the Corvette C7.R works at Daytona so we’re heading there with a lot of confidence.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s been busy to say the least! We haven’t had a lot of downtime since winning the GTLM championship but all the work has been worth it. We have been focusing on more specific areas of development in both the car and the team as a whole. The performance of Corvette Racing last year was outstanding, and that is evident by the success we enjoyed. In this class, you have to keep striving to maximize every opportunity you can. That’s why the Roar is so important if we want to continue last year’s momentum into another strong Rolex 24.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I really enjoyed returning to Corvette Racing and testing at Daytona last month. Both Rocky (Mike Rockenfeller) and I were able to do a large number of laps to again familiarize ourselves with the Corvette C7.R and some of the changes the team worked on in October and November. Everything seems very positive going into the Roar. We saw last year how important it is to turn lots of laps in order to arrive at a good baseline for the race. We are of course hoping to repeat that again.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “Most fans are under the impression that after Petit Le Mans we go into our ‘offseason’. In reality, we actually get right into what turns out to be the busiest part of our year. The team has collected an entire year's worth of data that our engineers have to convert into meaningful improvements. All these ideas have to then be designed, built, installed and tested before we open up at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Those are the reasons why the Roar is so very important for us. At this point, the guys are totally motivated an anxious to get back on the track to defend all our 2016 championships. I have a feeling that 2017 is going to be the best year of competition yet in GTLM!”

Corvette Racing Brings Back Rockenfeller, Fässler for Daytona, Sebring

Pair was part of last season’s long-distance lineup in premier IMSA events

DETROIT (Dec. 12, 2016) – Consistency and familiarity are themes of the 2017 Corvette Racing program, and it is no different with the selection of drivers for North America’s opening pair of premier endurance races. As was the case in 2016, Mike Rockenfeller and Marcel Fässler will join Corvette Racing’s four full-season drivers to recreate an All-Star lineup that will contest the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

The pair will reunite with their teammates from the same two events in 2016. Rockenfeller will drive with Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R as Fässler teams with Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette.

All six Corvette Racing drivers will attend a two-day IMSA test for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on Tuesday and Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway. It’s the place that saw Corvette Racing finish 1-2 in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class in 2016 with the two Corvettes separated by just 0.034 seconds – an all-time record for the event.

“Both Rocky and Marcel were valuable parts of our endurance program in IMSA last year,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition. “We are glad to welcome them back to Corvette Racing for the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Their experience, record of success and team-first mentality are ideal for Chevrolet and Corvette Racing as we attempt to repeat the 2016 victories in the two biggest endurance races in North America.”

Fässler, Gavin and Milner led the record-setting finish for Corvette Racing in last year’s Rolex 24 as the team won at Daytona for the second year in a row and third time in six tries. The No. 4 Corvette C7.R also doubled up in Florida by winning at Sebring – also for the second consecutive season. In 2015, Garcia and Magnussen were part of the winning lineup in the No. 3 Corvette C7.R for both endurance events.

Both Rockenfeller and Fässler have won endurance racing’s two premier 24-hour races – the Rolex 24 and 24 Hours of Le Mans. In addition to his two triumphs with Gavin and Milner to start the year, Fässler teamed with the reigning GTLM champions to place third in class at Road Atlanta’s season-ending Petit Le Mans.

He drove for Corvette Racing in 2009, is a past World Champion in the FIA World Endurance Championship and a three-time winner at Le Mans. He also won the 24 Hours of Spa in 2007 driving a sixth-generation Corvette.

Rockenfeller did the Daytona-Le Mans double in 2010 by winning both events overall. He is experienced success in both prototype and production-based competitions including the 2013 DTM Championship and GT-class wins at both Le Mans and in the American Le Mans Series.

Corvette Racing and Chevrolet enter the new season after a sweep of all six GTLM championships in 2016 – Manufacturer’s, Driver’s and Team’s in both the full WeatherTech Championship season and the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup. Gavin and Milner won four times to win the GTLM Driver’s titles, and Garcia and Magnussen were third in points with an overall victory at VIR.

Corvette Racing will open the 2017 IMSA season in the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 28-29.

MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’m very happy to rejoin Corvette Racing for the North American endurance events. Last year was great fun for me getting back into a GT car, and the Corvette C7.R did not disappoint. I am eager to get back in the Corvette and prepare myself for Daytona and Sebring, where we were very competitive in 2016 with the No. 3 Corvette.

“The fight within GTLM is very close among many manufacturers. You must have a strong team in all areas, and that is why Corvette Racing and Chevrolet have been successful in GT racing. The engineers, crew and drivers all work well together to give both Corvettes the best chance at victory. That will be the goal for all of us.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/ SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’m very happy to back with Corvette Racing for the Daytona and Sebring races in IMSA. It will be my second attempt at Daytona and hopefully a second victory. Last year we were able to win both of those classic endurance races. The victory at Daytona was an exciting experience - especially the last couple of hours. When both cars crossed the finish line that close together, we were unsure at first which Corvette won. I was thrilled that it was our No. 4 Corvette with Olly and Tommy.

“Daytona last year was racing at its best. For sure I will give my maximum effort to repeat with my mates Olly and Tommy both at Daytona and Sebring. I’m really excited to get back into the Corvette C7.R and be back with the Corvette Racing team again.”

‘Full-Season Four’ Return to Corvette Racing for 2017

Team relying on consistency in driver lineup for IMSA, Le Mans programs

  • Gavin, Milner defending IMSA GT Le Mans Driver’s Champions
  • Garcia, Magnussen eager to challenge for GTLM title
  • All four drivers are past IMSA Driver’s Champions
  • Chevrolet’s flagship GT team won five times in 2016

DETROIT (Dec. 7, 2016) – After sweeping all six GT Le Mans titles in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2016 and winning five times, Corvette Racing confirmed today that its full-season driver roster will remain unchanged for the upcoming 2017 racing season.

Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will pilot the two Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R race cars during both the IMSA season and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, pending invitations for the annual French endurance race.

This will mark the sixth consecutive year that the full-season lineup features the same four drivers. In their combined Corvette Racing history, they have combined to win 105 races and 10 Driver’s Championships in IMSA competition. Corvette Racing also has amassed class 11 Manufacturer and Team championships and an IMSA-record 102 race victories.

“Consistency is a key component in a successful endurance racing program,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition. “Retaining our core driver lineup for a sixth straight season gives us the best opportunity to repeat the phenomenal results from 2016.”

The two Corvette C7.Rs will participate at an upcoming preseason test Dec. 13-14 at Daytona International Speedway. The team recorded a 1-2 finish in GTLM at last year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona with the two cars separated by just 0.034 seconds. Gavin and Milner used that as a springboard to three additional wins and the GTLM Driver’s Championship.

Garcia and Magnussen were part of the runner-up entry at the Rolex, won overall at VIR and placed third in GTLM points.

A quick breakdown of each driver’s Corvette Racing highlights:

  • Antonio Garcia: 13 victories; 2013 ALMS GT Driver’s Champion; winner at Le Mans (2009, 2011), Daytona (2015), Sebring (2009, 2015)
  • Oliver Gavin: 48 victories; five ALMS/IMSA Driver’s Championships; winner at Le Mans (five times), Daytona (2016), Sebring (five times)
  • Jan Magnussen: 32 victories; two ALMS Driver’s Championships; winner at Le Mans (four times), Daytona (2015), Sebring (four times)
  • Tommy Milner: 12 victories; two ALMS/IMSA Driver’s Championships; winner at Le Mans (twice), Daytona (2016), Sebring (two times)

Corvette Racing will open the 2017 IMSA season in the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 28-29.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s great to be back with Corvette Racing for another season. We have won a lot of races and championships since 2009 when I joined for the endurance events. There is a lot of familiarity between the drivers, our crew and engineers; that is a big reason for the level of success in our program.

“Jan and I have been contenders for wins and championships since we broke through in 2013. Unfortunately the GTLM title in 2014 and 2015 slipped from our grasp. We suffered very bad luck at the beginning of 2016. So after being third in points each of the last three seasons, it’s time for us to put together a strong season and good results just as the No. 4 Corvette team did in 2016. We’re eager to fight and win for Corvette Racing and Chevrolet.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/ SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’m thrilled to be back with Corvette Racing and Antonio again for 2017. This will be our sixth season together and I’m really looking forward to getting started at Daytona. We’ve really developed a brilliant working relationship over the years and I’m now about to start my 14th season with Corvette Racing which is incredible.

“Last year was a brilliant season for Corvette Racing but we know the competition is going to continue to get tougher and tougher. It is going to be extremely important to have a strong start to the year. The cards didn’t fall our way for the No. 3 at the start of 2016 and we were in catch up mode for most of the season.

“Having more weekends like VIR where we got the pole and dominated the race is the target. We just have to keep working harder and smarter because we’ll be up against some new machinery from some of our rivals. The championship is our aim but this time we want to see the No. 3 at the top of the points.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/ SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “It’s great to be coming back and joining Tommy again in the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. It was a great season for us with four victories, a number of podiums and of course sweeping the GTLM championships. The mindset and motivation is there for everyone on board. We want to start 2017 the way we ended 2016 – running at the front, leading races and challenging for victories. That has to be our goal. That’s what everyone’s aim is on our team.

“You have a little more spring in your step coming into a new season on the back of one like we had in 2016. You feel confident. I hope that’s the way it carries over into 2017.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/ SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “More than anything, I'm excited to start a new season again with Corvette Racing. Each year always presents new challenges, and fighting hard to conquer those challenges is what makes it easy to get excited for the season.

“Being with Corvette Racing for this many years and having the same core team, I find we hit the ground running from the first test to the first race, almost as an extension of the previous year. With the success we had last year, let's hope that translates to a strong start for 2017.”

2016 CHAMPIONSHIP REWIND: Brian Hoye and Chuck Houghton

No. 4 Corvette C7.R car chief and lead engineer debrief on magical GTLM title season

Winning a title in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship takes the utmost level of skill and teamwork… both behind the wheel and behind the wall. Chuck Houghton and Brian Hoye – lead engineer and car chief, respectively, on Corvette Racing’s No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R – were key pieces to the team’s title-winning season, along with their fellow engineers and crew members. The two discuss their thoughts on a season that brought four victories and the GT Le Mans Driver’s, Manufacturer’s and Team championships in 2016.

What was the lasting moment of the 2016 season?

Chuck Houghton: “It’s 50-50. The start of the season for me was pretty incredible. Before getting spun around from the lead at Long Beach, it was looking like we were going to have three wins to start the season, which doesn’t happen very often. You’re looking at a 24-hour race, a 12-hour race and then a 100-minute race. So how the season started kind of breathed new life into the No. 4 team. We had struggled to produce in the U.S. for a couple of years. So it was good to start the season with those wins and get back to how it should be.

“Definitely the Elkhart Lake race was one that I don’t think anyone will forget. It was and still is pretty unbelievable.”

Brian Hoye: “By far for me, the biggest one was the win at Road America. To go from fifth to first in two laps at a place where it’s hard to pass is amazing. Obviously we were leading the points at that time and there was a ton of pressure to do better than fifth-place, but that’s what it seemed like we had for most of the day. We had a couple of late adjustments and some fortunate things happen in front of us. It’s still hard to believe it turned out that way.”

Do you still go back and watch it?

CH: “Well, it’s not the first thing I do when I get to the office every morning! But occasionally you’ll see it pop up on Facebook or wherever. If I see a link to it, I’ll usually click on it and watch the end again.”

BH: “I saw it on TV the other day and I didn’t think we were going to win! So many of us have been doing this for so long that our jobs are second-nature; you don’t really realize your accomplishments until you sit down away from the racetrack when things are quiet. Then it really sinks in.”

What made the difference on the No. 4 Corvette side this year compared to past seasons?

CH: “I think it’s more cyclical than anything. When I started with the team, both cars were kind of struggling. In 2010 we only won one race. The 2011 season was decent and 2012 was pretty good. The No. 3 car had some good races in those years but struggled for results. From 2013-15, they were pretty good while we were off for the most part. So these things just cycle up and down. I don’t know if there is any explanation for it. But all the little changes and everything that happens within the team and the group of people makes a difference. People always asked when we weren’t getting results what was wrong. You can’t necessarily put your finger on it. Sometimes these things just happen.”

BH: “I think it was a combination of a few things. We had some good seasons – we were good in 2011, won the championship in 2012 and were leading in 2013 with three races to go. Then for 2014 we switched to the Corvette C7.R, which was a great car. But it didn’t really seem like we had a handle on it for the first couple years. There were some changes in the series with the ALMS/GRAND-AM merger, different pit stop procedures and other rules changes. For whatever reason we struggled for awhile and weren’t performing that well, especially compared to our teammates. But we rolled with it and stayed together. With the new areo package for 2016, two new chassis and the years of being together on our team, it really seemed to balance things out for us.”

At what point in the season did it become apparent that this could be a special season?

CH: “For me, it was Long Beach. That seems early to say that things are going to go well, but typically when you have a chance to win three times in a year that’s a pretty decent season. There were a lot of races left and the chances of winning a championship weren’t super-high with the way the points work. But early on, I was definitely thinking we could challenge.

“The first time I really thought the championship was for sure in our grasp was after COTA. We had had a pretty good run at VIR up until the end. After that, things weren’t looking great. The 67 guys were rolling along and getting some decent points. What they had done midseason put them in a good position. But after COTA, I knew that put us in a good position.”

BH: “I felt good after Daytona. But you never really know how things are going to go. At Sebring a couple of things fell our way. In the last hour our car stayed the same – or it was maybe a tick better – but everyone else had gotten worse. Whatever tire pressure adjustment or swaybar adjustment Chuck had done helped the car to be able to do the same lap times in the dark while everyone fell off.

“At Laguna Seca, we had an OK racecar but got a penalty when the rear tires spun a little bit with the car up on the jacks. (Oliver) Gavin came around to me and everyone to say not to worry about it. He knew we had a good car and would have a shot at the title. I think it made us all realize it, too. No one pointed fingers. We all had to do our same jobs whether we had the car to beat or were off the pace.

How did the new regulations for 2016 help from an engineering and strategy standpoint?
CH: “We have a really strong engineering group at Corvette Racing and Chevy. So when there are changes like had with aero to the car, we can get on top of those pretty quickly. The processes that we have in place are pretty good for figuring out how to use the different downforce or drag levels to get the best out of the car and exploit advantages how we can.”

BH: “That’s part of the group having so much experience. We have so many guys that can move easily from one job to the other and can lend perspective in a lot of areas. That’s the kind of team we have, and it says something about a team being together for a number of years.”

How does 2016’s accomplishments set up for the 2017 season?

CH: “Within the team, there is a pretty high confidence level going into next year. We have two Corvettes that at every race should be competitive and fighting for wins. I was thinking the other day about how a lot of us on the engineering group and the team had done Daytona limited success before the last couple of years. Now we’ve won it and Sebring back-to-back. It would be great to do that again and it’s something everyone here is thinking about. With the way both cars had success this season, it gives everyone a boost of confidence going into next year.”

BH: “To repeat what happened and be better than last year is expected. There’s momentum and confidence, but we’ve all been around enough to know that all can go away with one race. We’re pushing and we’re digging as hard as if we didn’t win anything last season. We need to go to Daytona and win. That’s everyone’s mindset. We’re in here doing pitstop practices, working out and getting more physical. We’ve found areas where we can improve. Even after having won Daytona in one of the most incredible finishes anyone can remember, we can go into that race better prepared and do a better job than what we did last year. That’s the level of expectations that everyone at Corvette Racing and Chevrolet. There’s a lot invested by a lot of people in this program, and no one wants to let anyone else down.”

2016 CHAMPIONSHIP REWIND: Tommy Milner, No. 4 Corvette C7.R

On a second Driver’s title, ups and downs in the season and continuous learning

During the last 10 months in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Tommy Milner helped deliver some of Corvette Racing’s greatest moments and triumphs. He and Oliver Gavin won four times including Sebring and Road America – both places where Milner drove stellar final stints to help the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R sweep all six GT Le Mans titles for 2016.

In your mind, what was the lasting moment of the 2016 season?

“The one that will stick in our memories for a long time is the Daytona win. To win in that fashion – a close finish against our teammates who had been strong all race long – set a tone for us for the year. They had been so fast for the previous two years and had beaten us pretty soundly. It was a good confidence boost for us on the No. 4 Corvette team to be competitive against our teammates and the GTLM class. That finish, the last 20 to 30 minutes and it being my first Daytona win… all those wrapped together will be the one day I won’t forgot for a long time, and neither will our team and a lot of sports car fans.”

Do you view Antonio, Jan and the No. 3 Corvette team as a competitive barometer?

“Our class is so competitive that it’s not like you’re always just racing your teammates. But in any class, they are always your best comparison. If we’re having a bad weekend and they’re not, that basically eliminates an excuse for performance. So that always drives you on. It’s a very healthy relationship between our two Corvettes and our two teams. I’ve not seen anything negative from that. It’s always been very encouraging; each team uses the other as a baseline or guide to make sure we’re doing our jobs properly. We ultimately want to beat each other just as much as we do the rest of the field.”

When did you feel that you and Oliver had a chance to win the GTLM title?

“The start of the year was obviously very good, but when it’s early in the season you temper your expectations a bit. In the middle part of the season, we weren’t doing bad by any means; but we had an issue at Laguna Seca and we had an OK race at Watkins Glen but nothing fantastic. Our biggest competition was in the middle of a modest winning streak. But winning at Lime Rock tipped the scales back in our direction a little bit. We were outgunned a little bit by the No. 67 guys there but we found a way to win. Then Road America was that final push to put it back in our favor again.”

Do you find yourself watching the Road America finish and still wondering how that happened and what it took to get there from your side, the engineering side and the crew side?

“It’s pretty much settled in now! I’ve watched the end of it about 25 times. It gives me such a great feeling to remember those emotions of winning a race like that in a way that I’ve never experienced before – when you kind of steal one from everybody else. When you go back through the weekend, we weren’t super quick and in the race we were quite bad to start. Olly really struggled and did a great job of keeping things clean. The first change Chuck (Houghton, No. 4 Corvette lead engineer) made when I got in was a normal change that we would ordinarily make, but it wasn’t enough. There were still some of the same issues that Olly had early; it definitely was not a nice car to drive. That final change was a much bigger swing at it, and in a lot of ways a gamble. It was a risk that Chuck was willing to take which I was as well because we were not very good for my first stint in the car.

“The track always seems like it’s at its best at end when there is the most rubber down and grip. Once that came in, I remember thinking that the car was the best it had been all weekend and I was quicker than everyone else on the track. I was kind of ruing the fact that if we had this car earlier, we would be in the hunt to get some good points. Then the caution came out and we thought it would end under yellow and wouldn’t have a chance to make any progress; if it had stayed green, maybe I could have gotten another position. But we got the green with three laps to go… and we had one chance to make something of it. This was an opportunity to get some points back on the Ford, which I knew was leading. As it turned out, it was better than I ever could have imagined. I never thought in a million years I would have gone from fifth to first in that short of a span.

“Everyone had a hand in making that happen. Olly had a very tough car to drive but kept it under him. Chuck made the right call at the end, and the pit crew guys got us at least two or three spots on stops. That was everyone on the team coming together and doing their part. It was pretty special.”

Was there a reason for swing in fortunes on the No. 4 Corvette in 2016?

“I don’t think I can put my finger on one thing. The most logical answer is that it’s cyclical. Even having said that, the No. 3 guys were working as hard as they could this year. All the breaks went their way for a couple of years there. In our case, I think we as a group on the No. 4 Corvette weren’t doing everything in our power to right the ship. We were doing a lot of things to fix it, for sure. Having Ben (Johnson, team manager) take on that role has helped the team as a whole in that perspective. Adding that little bit of extra structure within the team and how we operate was especially good for our car. On the flip side, the No. 3 guys were just unlucky. It’s one of those things that if you look at our rise in 2012 and 2013, we had nearly two years of pretty good results and then we sort of tapered off after 2013. It got us in a rut for the better part of two years. The challenge was to get us back in that mindset of doing the things well that we had done well before.”

Even after winning six championships, are there still things you learn and pick up on each weekend?

“In some ways I am still a little bit taken aback with the position I’m in and the success I’ve had. I never expected that – to win Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona and championships where I can look back afterward and say, ‘Yeah, I was pretty good.’ In some ways I have a mentality of just being happy to be here. Sometimes it doesn’t feel totally real.

“This year has been a little bit different in that I’ve felt more comfortable with my position on the team or a sense that I belong. I think why this year was important is that I’ve been through a cycle of having some success, then falling down a bit and then picking myself back up to get back on track again. At the end of the day, you want to do your job well. Each person has an ability to be a help or a hurt. If someone is down because they’re having a bad year, recognizing that gives a chance to give some support and encouragement. This year was less about on-track stuff but in some ways the behind the scenes things that went on to make big differences.”

In your mind, how has Corvette Racing’s success contributed to the accomplishments of Chevrolet’s motorsports program?

“Corvette Racing has built this foundation of success, and in some ways we’re almost expected to do well every single year. I believe that all the other Chevrolet teams have the same mentality and the same goals and desires. We’ve done it at Corvette Racing for 16 or 17 years have set a standard. The IndyCar group has carried that well since Chevrolet came back in 2012. On the NASCAR side, Chevrolet is the most successful brand in history. So there’s a culture there with the success of all the programs. It’s never spoken but it’s there within every team – us, IndyCar, NASCAR and NHRA. Chevrolet gets the best teams and the best drivers, and they give us the best equipment. You add all those ingredients together, that’s why there is a standard of what we expect for each of us. Chevrolet has built a foundation for each team and program to work from and build on that toward success.”

2016 NASportsCary Awards

Last season over 1,000 people voted for our “Best SportsCar Driver in North America” season ending post where Ryan Daziel just edged out Jordan Taylor. We’re bringing it back with a new name, which is of course extremely stupid, and three categories – GT Driver , Prototype Driver, and Team of the Year. The NASportsCar team has their nominations and reasoning below. Please read then vote for the nominees in the categories below.

One of the nominees is Corvette Racing:

Corvette Racing. It was a clean sweep of IMSA championships for Corvette Racing in 2016, winning the season driver and team championships, and the NAEC driver and team championships. The #3 and #4 combined for five victories and seven more podiums. These are impressive achievements in any season, but even more so in the face of an all-out effort from Ford-Chip Ganassi in GTLM this year.

CORVETTE RACING AT ROAD ATLANTA: Championship Sweep in GT Le Mans

Gavin, Milner claim Driver’s Championship in No. 4 Corvette C7.R

  • Team Championship for No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette team to go along with Chevrolet Manufacturer’s Championship
  • Garcia, Magnussen take third in GTLM Driver’s Championship
  • Gavin, Milner, Chevrolet also sweep Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup

BRASELTON, Ga. (Oct. 1, 2016) – Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner captured the GT Le Mans (GTLM) Driver’s Championship in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on Saturday with a third-place finish alongside Marcel Fässler at Petit Le Mans presented by Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. It is the second championship for the pairing, the 10th for Corvette Racing and goes along with Chevrolet’s GTLM Manufacturer’s Championship clinched earlier in the day.

The No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R also won the GTLM Team Championship – the 11th in program history. Gavin and Milner needed to finish seventh in class or better to clinch the title.

“Oliver, Tommy and Marcel teamed up again to drive a smart race and capture a podium finish that delivered valuable points,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “As a result, Oliver and Tommy clinched the 2016 GTLM Driver’s Championship. Congratulations to the entire Corvette C7.R team on their preparation and execution all season long.”

Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Mike Rockenfeller placed fourth in class in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R after losing four laps due to a mechanical problem early in the race. The fight-back and result was good enough to give Garcia and Magnussen third place in the GTLM Driver’s Championship.

There was more good news as Chevrolet and Corvette Racing swept the Manufacturer’s, Driver’s and Team championships in the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup.

Gavin, Milner and Fässler ran in the top half of the GTLM field for virtually the entire race. Milner began from the seventh position, but the new GTLM co-champion was able to move up to second place after his two-hour, 30-minute drive. Help came in pitlane, too as the No. 4 crew gained Milner a spot at each stop.

Gavin took over and drove to the lead shortly after a full-course caution period three-and-a-half hours into the race. He never dropped before second before handing over to Marcel Fässler, who had won at Daytona and Sebring with the Gavin/Milner duo. He ran in podium position for nearly three hours before a slight off-track excursion in Turn One. He recovered nicely and was solidly in the top-five at the end of his stint.

Milner got back in the No. 4 Corvette with three hours to go and moved back into podium position less than an hour later. Gavin drove the final 75 minutes to put a wrap on the championship season.

Garcia, Magnussen and Rockenfeller were the equals of their teammates on pace in the early going. Garcia started second, and the No. 3 Corvette ran in podium position until a mistake on the pit stop shuffled the car back in the GTLM order. Magnussen took over 90 minutes in and began charging through the field before a throttle malfunction cost the No. 3 Corvette team four laps barely two hours left in the race.

Through smart strategy, heads-up driving and solid pitwork the rest of the way, the Garcia/Magnussen/Rockenfeller trio gained back three laps and finished behind the team car in class.

Corvette Racing will open the 2017 IMSA season in the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 28-29.

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM DRIVER’S CHAMPION/FINISHED THIRD IN GTLM RACE: “Woo! That feels really good. It doesn’t have the initial shock of a win, but deep down this is a pretty satisfying end of the season. We had four wins… a couple of bad races, but we had some amazing ones as well. I just don’t know what to say. Most of all, I am just really happy. I feel really fortunate to be a part of this Corvette Racing team and Chevy. Every year, every weekend, every practice session, I always have the best stuff. That is all a driver can ask for. Yea…I’m happy. This is perfect!”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM DRIVER’S CHAMPION/FINISHED THIRD IN GTLM RACE: “We’ve had a fantastic year. It started off with a fantastic race at Daytona. That was just epic to get that result. The one-two and the way we did it was just phenomenal. Then the win Sebring with Tommy – he was a rock and just steady the whole race. It was phenomenal again! He was a legend. We’ve just managed to pick up some great finishes throughout the season. Then to get the 100th win at Lime Rock – I think that is where Tommy and I really started believing that we could actually win this. Yes, the competition had some good results up to that point and we needed to stop their momentum, and we did that there. That crazy finish at Road America… We just sort of arrived here and knew what we needed to do. We executed really well and got another podium and another third place like last year. It is a great way to wrap up the championship in this way. I mean we got the Manufacturer Championship for Chevrolet, the Driver Championship, the Team Championship and the North American Endurance Cup Championship. We got it all. I’m thrilled… just thrilled. I’m thrilled for Tommy and thrilled for the team. Having Marcel (Fässler) on the team here in America has been just brilliant. He has been like our lucky charm in the car. He has been brilliant to have in the car. We want him back next year.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED THIRD IN GTLM RACE: “It was a very good experience for me, for sure. I'm really, really happy that I could be a part of the No. 4 car, especially today when they won the championship. This was not always quite easy because on one hand you want to push for the win, but on the other hand you have to keep in mind that you are going for a championship title. The Corvette was really great again, and it was a lot of fun. It was an incredible three races for me… two wins - Daytona in the first appearance for me, then Sebring and now another podium here. The championship for Olly and Tommy, it is really great. Also the title for Corvette Racing… it is amazing to be part of the whole team."

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SIRIUS-XM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM RACE: “It was close to the front, but also very close to being all the way at the back. Basically that is how it is in GTLM. The Corvette behaved how we expected. The track was obviously a lot different that it was this morning (in practice) after several hours between Practice Three and qualifying with all these races in between. I think we did a good job on guessing on what the track would do. The track was definitely slower than this morning but we followed what it would do. I didn't put together a complete lap. I did three almost identical laps; if you take the best part of each lap, I'm sure I could be up front. So it is always good to have the pole position, but we have had a couple this year. We just need to win this one."

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SIRIUS-XM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM RACE: “I took it very easy to begin with. I didn’t want to risk the car; I really wanted to find the balance and see where we were compared to everyone else. It wasn’t great at first. I was struggling with top speed, plus I had a little too much understeer. We made an adjustment to the car, which made it a lot better. It was very well-behaved and fast. I was able to charge. Things are quite good and I’m very happy. Calm and collected is the strategy for the next 20 hours, I think.”

MIKE ROCKENFELLER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SIRIUS-XM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED FOURTH IN GTLM RACE: “Obviously we were hoping to fight for the victory here. But first, congratulations to all my teammates and to the team for all of the success this year. We fought hard. We dropped back when we had the issue early in the race. I think we lost four laps and we gained three back. When I was in the car, we were lucky with the yellows. We tried hard and at the end, we were just missing one lap to be able to fight for victory. It didn’t happen. The No. 3 car just had issues this season in the long races, but I really enjoyed being a part of Corvette Racing this season. It was my first time and with my teammates, I had a great time. I hope I will be back next year.”
