I think it was a larger than normal saddle on tiny moped, not reallt dual-seated ;)

Yeah, we had a few (fortunately very few) WTFs as we do every year. But as you can tell, the cool rides far outweigh the others.
As our grey-beards retire, our show has dwindled over the years. I think we used to have about 100 cars annually, now down to about 40.

ETA in time for the car show?

I get the motor back either 9/14 or 9/21 (Virgil can only come up on Saturdays).

Car show is 10/1.

Should be good. I haven't much else to do except drop the motor back in.

Though I did spend a few bucks at summitracing.com today to help with the install... new radiator overflow tank, Taylor wires, Lokar dipstick, and a -20AN weld-in bung for my radiator so I can finally install my spiffy CSR Performance billet AN-fitted water neck.

I sure hope it's a quick and cheap fix. Get out for a few hundred bucks.

Thanks for keeping the hoist handy!

I just got the report:
Two spun rod bearings. So no new hard parts. Just machining and re-assembly (well, a new oil pump). With the bearing material floating all around the motor, we decided it best to dis-assemble the heads and clean 'em out, so add a valve job to the bill.

I knew from jump it would be more than a few hundred bucks because it was a complete tear-down. But at $2250 it's still less than what I originally had feared (was expecting ~$3K).

Dang it, and my brother just told me my new rifle is finally on the way to the gun shop!

I forgot to mention I toasted my motor again 2 weeks ago. I think I spun a bearing.

(I had to dig this thread up to figure out how long ago was my last build.)

At any rate, the motor has been out three days now and I haven't yet thought of any new upgrades "while it's out" for the rebuild. Hopefully, I'll get away with just a teardown and re-assemble without too much machining or hard parts. I'm holding tight onto my wallet this time!

I guess I've been a little behind in my C5's maintenance. After 155Kmi, my F45 shocks were shot. And I don't recall the last time brakes were done. But IIRC, my brother Virgil owned the car at the time and probably used store brand parts.

So I've been on the fence about shelling out cubic dollars for new F45 shocks, or disabling the F45 altogether and getting something aftermarket like Bilsteins. Well, I found a great deal on some low mile F45 take-offs. And I also had some Baer Racing pads laying around that are spares for the Chevelle (it has C5 brakes).

It's all in now. And the car handles/drives/brakes as a C5 should! I shouldn't waited so long!

Andy had my car a few weeks ago and didn't gripe much. But I get a lot of butt-time in this ride and I'm sure back to being a happy Corvette owner!

My first/only cruise (so far) was back in 2006 in the Caribbean aboard the Carnival Valor. When I booked the trip, I selected "any balcony stateroom." This guaranteed a balcony room at the lowest price, but you wouldn't know your exact location until boarding. Well, we lucked out and scored a corner balcony on the fantail. The balcony was so big I couldn't believe we had it all to ourselves. Very cool!

I've heard people knock Carnival for being too party-oriented and with too many kids. I was in my mid-30s with no kids. Had a blast and can't really recall any complaints.

Don't use their online estimator, it's pretty generic to get you a ball park figure..

Call them directly and they'll help you better over the phone.
If I recall correctly, they sent me a build sheet to fill in (vehicle weight, engine, trans, gears, cam info, etc) to help them help me pick a converter which they custom-built to spec.

These guys have built a couple for me, including the current one I have behind my 550+hp 496 stroker BBC. I know nothing about racing or building torque converters but these guys came highly recommended and are pretty well known in the San Diego area's racing/muscle car circles. Sorry, but I really have no recollection of what I paid though.

Sorry, but this one WAS built here...

Although I am too young to have designed any part of the Shuttle, I have designed some electronics hardware for stuff that went up in the Shuttle. My brother Ted has also designed some of the same hardware. My brother Virgil has machined some hard parts for the Space Program.
So, it brought a tear to my eye seeing the Shuttle pass and hearing the crowd cheer. I'm really glad NASA (and others) spent the money to share this little glimpse with the American public.

I'm currently involved with designing hardware for the flight computer for NASA's Shuttle replacement, the Space Launch System (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Launch_System). I'm certain it'll be decades or longer, and I'll be long gone, before we have another similar opportunity to celebrate our national Space Program.

Glad y'alls enjoyed the photos. Next month the Shuttle will be towed to the California Science Center here in Los Angeles, its final resting place. I'll snap some ground-level shots when that trek gets under way.

My office (brick building in fourth picture) is literally across the street from LAX. So I had a pretty good view from our parking structure.

They buzzed the tarmac at LAX right before their last loop (over Andy's office):

But... I saw the Shuttle pass by my building just a few minutes ago.

It flew over the 110 freeway, at the 91, near Gardena, CA. It was actually a mile or 2 west of that area, I am guess. VERY low, 1500-2000 ft.

I will be processing the pics tonight... I hope they came out. The shuttle and 747 are both painted in a shade of smog blue/white that seriously matches our sky.
I got a few good shots on it's first flyby over LAX and on final approach from our parking structure just outside LAX's south runway. But I can't bring my camera into the office, so I'll post mine tonight too.

Yeah, well take away our cost of living and the income looks really nice for a minute.

But all seriousness aside, we're a major aerospace company with a lot of engineers, in sunny southern California. So it makes sense that we have a lot of car nuts. Truth be told, our car show attendance has really dwindled in the past 5-10 years.

We have a car show every year at work as a Back to School morale function. We have a lot of old guys here and a bunch of gear heads, so a lot of cool cars! Here's a few teaser pics, but I'll snag more at lunch time. Enjoy...

(Oh, my cars are the Atomic Orange '71 Chevelle Convertible and the Starfire Pearl White '98 Corvette Roadster.)

I will be fine for the week! T and gang head outta town on Tuesday, so I will have options.

I hope to have the C4 back on the road next weekend.

Oh right... N'awlins?

Well, you're still welcome to visit our car show.

When the collective is referred to as a "fleet", I figured my odds were pretty good. Thanks!
So.....?

Well, if you want/need, you can come to my office Tuesday and pick up the C5 any time after 1pm. And if it's not detrimental to your work day and you can schedule a long lunch, you can even scope out our car show (11am-1pm).

For the sake of your car, hopefully you don't need mine. But I just thought I'd plant a seed so you can plan ahead.

If it is, I will be asking the Nelson and Virgil Loan-a-car LLC for a set of wheels...
Something can very likely be arranged. I'm planning to be a two-car-having-mofo again in a couple days.

Damn sorry to hear! Hope it's not long, drawn-out, expensive fix.
