Hey guys, day started out nice and sunny, then around noon the clouds built up and started raining. Drizzled all afternoon. We'll take the moisture whenever and as much as we can get.

Worked in the shop all day, got a lot done.

Good morning guys... pretty day here. Going to be in the upper 60s today.

We have a funeral to attend today. Friend from the church. I taught their kids and my daughters hubbys' uncle.

I'll come home and work on some projects this afternoon.

Morning guys... yesterday was a good day. Beautiful weather, low 60s and light breezes. Today is supposed to be the same.

I made it over and installed some window jambs at the church in the town over east of us (7 miles) so they can move forward on having some other work done. and then worked in the shop on some other things. More of the same today.

I'm like Tommy, of sorts, I would like to see someone else running strong on the Republican ticket, but if Trumps the choice, I'll take him over any of the demoncraps.

Hey guys, beautiful day here. low 60s and very light breezes.

I was up early and off to the church hall as we served breakfast after Mass. Good turnout, served almost 80. Lots of help from the guys.

Once home I did some maintenance on the pickup. Swapped headlight bulbs out for LEDs and then changed the oil and filter. After that I ran the Caddy through the car wash...just to wash the salt/chemicals off.

Hey guys, yesterday was the first day I've felt like working in the shop all day. So I must be feeling better. Darkish, damp and cool today. Mid 40s now and that's about it. Waiting for a call to go install the garage cabinets that have been sitting since before I got sick.

Started another project this morning, with the hopes that I am going to get those garage cabinets out today.

Hey guys, busy morning. Lumber truck here, unloaded just in time for me to make my massage appointment. Back home I unloaded the lumber into the shop and then time for lunch.

Was chilly and slick this morning, but headed to the mid 40s this afternoon. Warming (to near normal temps) trend through the next several days.

Hey guys, back from the game. Cool and foggy today. Calling for 0 visibility tonight through mid morning due to the fog.

I think the new medicine is helping... but not over it yet.

Hey guys, Still fighting the 'crud', I finished the "Z-Pack" today, so called the Dr. office again and now put me on a prednisone taper. Just like the z pack, I took the first dose and could feel a difference within a few hours...I hope this one will actually helps me get over this crap. Tired of being tired and with minimal effort, being out of breath. Just to be safe, before calling the Dr. I had a Covid test run, NEG.

We'll see how tomorrow goes, have a lumber truck coming with materials for me and a couple other guys here. I'll make sure they both are here when it comes time to unload.

Your projects seem to go like mine, Matt. No matter how well it's planned . there's always something.

Hey guys, yup, feeling a bit better each day. Not back 100%...maybe 70% now. But last night sleep clear through, well, up once to pee, but slept through to 8:30 and didn't hack or cough at all.

#3 and both girls got here from KC around 11pm. So active house this morning.

Marc, don't even get me started.....

Hey guys, had a much better night. It was cold when we got up, 0 but has recovered to 18 now and they are saying mid 20s for a high. Rosie left early to go pick up the GGD.

Hope the recovery continues, as tomorrow evening I go to receive my award before the Boys championship game. So I'm taking it easy again today and pushing the fluids.

Hey guys, still not feeling up to snuff. Finally, called the Dr. and he called in a Rx for me.

Temps are in the mid 40s but windy. Think I'll take a nap.

Hey guys, Cold here but no snow. The crap that was tickling my throat has moved down into my lungs. Hacked and coughed half the night. Finally at around 4am I got up (after being up about 20 minutes hacking) and took some night time cold medicine. After about 30 minutes I slept like a baby until almost nine. My chest and stomach hurt from the hacking. I feel like a truck ran over me. Daytime medicine has kept me from hacking as much today. Just taking it easy today

Hey guys, -8 when we got up...well the first time, decided it was too clod and went back for another hour and a half, -3 then. We had a makeup b-ball game last night. when it got done I hit the remote start and let it run for 15 minutes before we went out and it was still freaking cold. Shivered all the way home.

Today we were relaxing when #3 GS called to say his car wouldn't start. Do you have jumper cables? Have your brother jump you. "No, no cables, and his pickup won't start either." So, Rosie and I headed over to the 'city' to get them going. As it ended up he did have jumpers but they wouldn't work. And the one cable end had been put on wrong and fried the end. Bought a new set of jumpers so he would have a set.

Got them both going and we headed over down to pickup furnace filters for the shop, and ended up picking up a bunch of stuff, including new ends for his jumpers. When we got back I pulled the connectors out of the new clips and stripped the wire back, used some big heavy pliers to crimp it down then soldered them. then found I should have fed the wire through the clip, so then proceeded to unsolder and redo them right. PITA! Now both boys have a set of cables.

Cold overnight tonight, they're saying -10 not looking forward to getting up in the morning.

Tommy, hang in there. Letty, just think of how nice it will be when you get back to the beach.

I received a most awesome birthday present this afternoon. I got a phone call from our high school AD asking me if I was available to come to the finals of the High Plains league basketball tournament next Saturday the 20th. He said that the league was going to honor me with their lifetime achievement award for my 44 years of service.

I told the HS AD, at the beginning of the school year, that I would be retiring from running the clocks for football and basketball at the end of this year, it was time for someone else to take over. I never anticipated this honor from the league. I am overwhelmed with emotion right now, and not sure I am worthy of the honor.

I figured the school would take a moment to say something at one of our home games, but, I never anticipated this League honor. My co-worker and I always laughed and joked about how we were the "All League" scorebook/score clock crew...this brings those jokes to reality.

Morning guys... Really cold start here this morning, 5 when we got up. They are saying we might get up to low 30s...I'll believe it when I see it. Not a great birthday, weather-wise.

Hey guys, pretty nice start to the day, upper 20s warmed up to upper 30s by noon. Rosie and I walked up to the post office to get the mail, quite pleasant. Went out to the shop to get some things done, was in there for about 20 minutes and went back to the house, stepped out and found the north wind blowing hard from the north and the temps dropped to low 20s and dropping fast.

Finished up the cabinets in the shop...think I'll arrange time to deliver and install them once it warms up a bit. Like Marc, it's going to get darn cold here for several days.

Tomorrow, my birthday, I have to run to the next town over to install the window jambs I built for the church over there. Hopefully it won't take all day.

Morning guys... Pretty nice here considering it is January. Mid 20s now and headed to upper 30s. After today though, it all turns south (well actually NORTH) as the next cold front comes through. Not expecting temps quite as cold as Marc, but they are saying -10 for lows.

27 years ago I became a grandfather. We are headed over to the 'city' late this afternoon to take him out to supper. We'll have the official party Friday evening, on my birthday.

Hey guys, house finally warmed up. Bedroom was 61 degrees when we went to bed and was 64 when I got up... that's about the normal temp we like to keep it at during the winter.

Sunny and light breezes early, but cold 18 when I got up. After making breakfast Rosie and I decided we should go out and start scooping the snow off the drive. As we were getting bundled up, I heard an engine running and looked out to see our neighbor with his big snow blower about half done with the drive. So we went on out and finished up the details. I worked it out to the edges. The drifts were about 15' wide and up to 30" deep and packed hard. I was walking on top on those drifts, the snow blower couldn't hardly eat through the worst of it. I ended up chopping through about a 20' x 3' area along the south side of the drive.

Went out to the shop and opened the garage door there to find drifts under the protected awning, about a foot deep. Took us about an hour to get that cleaned off.

Lost power about 11am, just came back on at 6:45. Just about thinking about getting the generator out of the pickup and setting it up, then the power came on.

Morning guys... we are under a Blizzard Warning. It is snowing and the wind is blowing, but not blizzard conditions YET. The heavier snow and winds are still on their way. I was proactive and went down to the storage shed and brought home one of the generators...hope I don't have to use it, but it's here just in case.

Headed to the shop to work on some stuff.

Stay warm and dry GURUS.

Morning guys...cold here this morning, 16 when we got up, 19 now. They are saying we are in a winter storm watch predicting 2-6" with the wind blowing up to 50 mph....That would be considered a blizzard, I think. We'll see how it plays out.

I have a Knights of Columbus meeting today over in the 'city', should be back before the weather moves in. Picking up another guy to ride along with me.

Hey guys, up early and off to return GGD. Ready for church. Started off cool cloudy and dampish. Clouds cleared off and still cool, but seasonable temps, low 40s.

Nice workup there, Marc.

Morning guys... about 3" of snow overnight. Really icy under the snow, so kind of treacherous to drive anywhere.

Headed out to the shop pretty quick as we just put GGD down for a nap.

Hey guys, MIA most of the week. GGD keeps us busy and kicking the shop back into gear to start whittling down the list. Actually have 4 separate projects going right now. Work a little on this one spray an little finish on that one, plane some boards and glue up boards for another. The shop is full and two of the cabinets are monsters 42" x 80" x 24" and made of 3/4" melamine with 1/2" melamine backs...= about 175 lbs each so not easy to move and always in the way. I'll try to finish those up and get them out of here.

Waiting for a big weather change. Turned colder yesterday and today the humids are coming up and just now starting to snow...they say to expect 2-6" through tomorrow night. Then another wave come Sunday night and another late next week. We'll take it.

I read in our local paper, that in 2022 we had 6.78" of moisture, last year (2023) we had 23.89"... the average rainfall here is around 15", so over the last couple years we have been 'normal'

Late here, better hit the sack.

Hey guys, cool day here, seasonally cool so can't complain. Highs in the mid 40s.

Doing a little work in the shop today. Yea, the house is quiet. We still have GGD, so she keeps us on our toes. She's fighting a cold, nose runny and at times grumpy. we take her back Thursday. So it will be real quiet then.

Hey guys, up and around. Thursday and Friday had GSs #2 and 3 helping in the shop. #2 (the one who just graduated from K-State) Said he needed to take off early to go see his GF (fiance) and help her dad do some things. (Swap out a toilet for one). And needed my pickup to go get it as they only have small Hondas and noo room to haul a new toilet. So I let him take it. Before he leaves, I give him some pointers on what to watch out for. So later he calls me and says, her dad would like for me to stop by sometime and take a look at some things and they didn't change the toilet out. I tell him to tell them I would do that. Her dad has terminal cancer and just can't do much of anything on his own anymore. So yesterday, Ben tells me that they bought a toilet and he needs to pick it up. So I told him the I would come over and take a look at the things he wanted me to, and I would change the toilet out.

Have I ever mentioned that I HATE F@*king plumbing?

I told Ben, on the way over to the 'city' all the things that typically can go wrong with swapping toilets...this in answer to his question about how long should this take? If everything goes right, maybe about 45 minutes... but rarely does everything go right, so we need to remove the old one first to see if there is anything else we need to get while at Menards. Surprisingly the valve, which was an old gate valve and 20+ years old, shut off without leaking and the flange was still in one piece, so things were looking our way. Go across town and pick up the new toilet and go to install it and the wax ring that came with the new toilet was damaged and couldn't be used, so he runs off to get a new one while I finished putting the new toilet together. New hose and we have it done, basically without incident. Then he wants me to look at another problem...a water leak, I remove a ceiling tile and determine the issue, but tell him I don't have the right tools to fix it, but after looking at it from the top side I tell him we MIGHT be able to fix, or at least, slow down the leak until he can get a real plumber over to check it out. So he has some silicone and I dry the drain out real good and shoot some silicone around the drain seal. We'll know tomorrow if it worked. They wanted to pay me, but I refused any payment.

Not what I really wanted to do today, but glad I could help them out.

Stay out of trouble this evening gurus.

Hey guys, Up early.... did Yoga... #1 is a certified Yoga instructor and made a Yoga video for #2, I figured I'd give it a try. Maybe help with my hips and shoulders.

Then out to the shop and worked all day. Had the help of GSs #2 and #3. Got a lot accomplished moving big heavy pieces around.

We got GGD for a few days again. She got to open her Christmas presents.... I must admit...she's a cutie!

Morning guys...Cold and windy here. Up toward the north of us, BLIZZARD conditions. That prevents us from going to get the GGD like was planned. That was my suggestion. Getting her here just wasn't worth the risks involved in travelling for both parties. The blizzard conditions are supposed to stay in place through tomorrow morning.

Haven't heard whether or not the truck with my materials is going to get here. I'll call after while to find out if/when.

Yesterday was simply a wasted day. I didn't go outside even once. The girls got us a subscription to "Storyworth". It's an on-line place where the girls can ask questions and we are supposed to write up the memories/stories. We received our first question yesterday.

"What was your dad like when you were a child?" So I wrote many stories of my childhood involving dad.

I believe the idea is to pass these stories down to the next generations and to keep alive the memories of you and your history. I know most of what I wrote yesterday had never been heard of by my daughters. When you submit, they get notification and can read the stories. All three girls have already let me know that they enjoyed reading my story.

Morning guys... successful Christmas eve here. It was cold, windy and damp in the afternoon and into the evening. Wind like howling from the north.

Quiet this morning. Not much planned.

Tomorrow I've got materials coming for the next two projects in the shop. So I'll get started on them soon. Both projects using the same basic materials, same basic design, so it only makes sense to build them both at the same time.

Morning guys...we are planning a simple Christmas, just the local family, except for maybe #2 GS who has the flu. We'll see how that goes and how he recoups today.

We have church at 4pm and then will convene at the house to celebrate.

A Merry Christmas to all my friends here at the Guru. I wish you all the best in the new year.

Always try to identify the old finish first. Try denatured alcohol on that top. Soak a rag and rub those areas. I doubt that the finish is shellac, but the milky surface, kind of, looks the way shellac does when it gets soaked. The alcohol, if the finish is shellac, will take it off. More than likely though, it will probably be lacquer. If the alcohol doesn't do anything, try some lacquer thinner. That should remove nearly any vintage finish Remove the finish before trying to sand the water stains out.

Hey guys, got a little rain last night, been damp feeling all day, but not cold at all. That's supposed to change overnight, mid 50s today, low 30s for highs tomorrow. Maybe even a little snow.

Only having the locals here tomorrow. The two KC bunches are doing their own things, too far to come I guess.

Hey guys, Pretty nice day here, sunny, light breezes and in the mid 40 now headed to the mid 50s this afternoon.

I'm pretty much caught up in the shop and won't start any major projects until after the first of the year, and I have several on tap.

I'm not afraid to go to the doctor, don't particularly care for it, but I will go. With the health history of my family, I need to keep up on the checks. My brothers and my dad didn't, or didn't until it was too late.

I distributed checks this morning from the proceeds of the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll program this morning, $2000 donated to our local Special education programs at school. Teachers were very thankful for the money.

Hey guys, Home from a quick trip east this weekend. Was up early yesterday morning to make it to Manhattan for #2 grandsons' graduation. It was a great time and so proud of this fine young man.

After taking him, his fiancé, a friend/classmate and another granddaughter (a K-State student) out to eat at Olive Garden, we headed to KC to visit the two daughters there.

This morning after visiting #3 and family, we headed home. Made a stop in Salina at an auto museum, "The Garage", to view a special display on the 70th Anniversary of the Corvette. They had some pretty impressive cars on display. A 53, not sure what VIN number, but one really fine example. They also had the DR1, the special 89 vert that GM built to test and see how a vert might work as a ZR-1...I saw this car at the NCM the first time we visited it back 2006. A very nice example of a 63 SWC. And my favorite, a 65 roadster.

Had to get Rosie into the "Barbie" Corvette for a picture op.

Hey guys, sorry Gris for the loss.

Nice day here, but the bottom falls out the next 36 hours.

I prefer to live in the past as well. The things going on today makes my head hurt, so I prefer stick my head in the ground.

Not a lot planned here today, piddle around in the shop.

Morning guys, going to be a nice day. A little cool to start but is supposed to warm up.

Didn't quite finish up the cabinet. So will do that this morning and deliver it later today.

Morning guys, cool this morning low 30s but promises to make it into the low 60s, albeit, a bit windy.

Got rid of all the extra beirocks yesterday, that eases my mind as we would have had to find freezer space for them if not.

Got a big cabinet assembled yesterday. Today I'll make an effort to finish up the construction. I'd like to finish up that project this week.

Hey guys, MIA yesterday. Was at the school making beirocks. As usual, I was the oven guy. Handled enough trays to bake approx 220 dozen. Finished up about 5:30, dead tired and feet hurting.

Working in the shop today.

Happy birthday, Gris!

Morning guys... cold here, 18 when we got up and they say we might see a little snow this morning. I'll believe that when it actually happens.

First home basketball game tonight. So I need to be at the school around 4.
