Good morning, all.

I have sorted through the pictures from last week's gallivant. Here are the best/most representative 38:

Good morning, all.

We returned from a southeastern USA gallivant in Louis yesterday afternoon (just in time for the Daytona 500). 1,877 miles, with stops in Williamsburg, Yorktown, Raleigh (outskirts), Mebane, Columbia (SC), Congaree National Park, Hilton Head, Raleigh (downtown), Wright Brothers National Memorial (Outer Banks), and Ocean City (MD). Photos coming within the next few days.

Thanks John, I couldn't get it on any of the channels I have available to me.

They moved it around like crazy and some of it was only on the paid tier of Peacock. This, unfortunately, looks like the future.

Since I was previously paying for the IMSA portion of NBC Sports Gold, it was easy to cost-justify Peacock—at least to try it for a year. We'll see how I feel about this in 2023.

The GTD Pro Porsches provided the entertainment in the last few minutes, beating on each other in a way that reminded me of the Corvette C7s at the Daytona finish in 2016—has it been six years already?

If I'm Chevrolet, I'm pleased with the 6th in class that the #3 car achieved. It's going to take some time to make the full adjustment from GTLM to GT3, and both cars looked really unbalanced on track. Nice job by Garcia, Taylor, and Catsburg.

Meanwhile, Helio's incredible 18 months continues—a driver who Penske Racing considered finished has now won two Rolexes and an Indy 500 in that period. It was striking that Meyer Shank Racing put that 48-year-old man in as their closer instead of one of their younger drivers.

The Acura versus Cadillac battle continues in DPi, with two of each marque left on the lead lap. In GTD Pro, it was Porsche versus Ferrari for most of the night, but now Lexus and McLaren have shown up.

The #4 car has gotten tagged at least twice and is currently in the middle of a long pit stop.

It left the pit stall and then stopped. Team members pushing it back.

Now the engine cover is coming off and now it's going behind the wall.

Good news: the new class the Corvette's are in has more competition.

Bad news: the new class the Corvette's are in has more competition.

Corevette Racing is running the same two cars that met last year's GTLM specification, but they've had to decontent them to meet the GTD Pro regulations. Thus, the cars are unbalanced compared to the rest of the class, which are all true GT3 cars.

The Sharpie of Death is out—the #18 LMP2 (not DPi—my mistake) car has been retired. 60 cars remain with almost three hours in.

We just had another big crash—the #34 GTD Porsche 911. This makes for the second full course yellow.

DPi—#60 Acura, #10 Acura, #31 Cadillac

LMP2—#52 Oreca (8th overall), #11 Oreca, #69 Oreca

LMP3—#74 Ligier (16th overall), #36 Ligier, #33 Ligier

Good morning, all.

Quite cold in the Philadelphia area also, but (knock on wood) all the pipes worked this morning. It's supposed to get up to a balmy 24 degrees later today.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is only eight days away—time to get the streaming set up and the spotter's guide printed.

JOHN: IS YOUR TRIP TO SIN CITY OFF?

Gris, more than half of my in-person meetings were cancelled, so I canceled my reservations a few days ago. I'll be back, but not in January 2022. Disappointing—at full bore, the show is magnificent.

Good afternoon, all.

Like many on Guru, recovering/cleaning up from Christmas Day.

The Honda has a terrible mildew smell. I did an evaporator cleaner the other day and did a vent cleaning today. Hopefully that solves it. If not I'll do an odor bomb which is a can you open in the interior with the windows up. It dogs the car and circulates it through the HVAC. We'll see.

I've had good luck with this—enough that I keep one on hand:

Good morning, all.

A strange day at the University—we're off for Christmas Eve and have early dismissal today. The result is that hardly anybody is on-site—maybe three or four people in a suite that holds 75.

I was planning to attend CES 2022 in Las Vegas early in January, but companies I had scheduled visits with are starting to drop out. I have to make a go/no go decision soon.

Good morning, all.

Like Gris said yesterday, winter is (also) here—25 degrees when I woke up this morning.

DID THE WIN 11 UPGRADE LAST NIGHT, NO PROBLEMS SO FAR.

We've found that—if the computer supports it—the Windows 11 upgrade is the smoothest Windows upgrade process in decades.

The Corvette plant, Corvette museum, and museum track were also hit. It looks like the worst damage was to the track, with one of the buildings "gone."

Good morning, all and have a good time, Tom.

Cold and gray in the Philadelphia area today.

Working from home while carting my parents around to their medical appointments today.

Al Unser Sr. (Big Al) passed yesterday at age 82 after a long fight with cancer. He was a towering figure at the Indy 500—won four times, 2nd three times, 3rd four times, and seemingly always in the hunt. He also won in just about everything: Colt/Ford, Lola/Cosworth, March/Cosworth. A transitional driver, he could obviously adapt—the Lola/Ford he finished 2nd in in 1967 barely resembled the Lola/Buick he finished 3rd in in 1992.

This is the Al I remember—from the 1984 Indy 500.
