if I buy another vette, I'll go "backwards" with a C2 or 3.

Looks good to me. Would an alternate method be to hand paint then buff off the excess?

Thats totally awesome! Not every C4 gets the chance to be a 'model'! Classy choice by the company. They could have used a new one, or some ricer. Nice to see some exec. 'gets it'.

Bought then sold my '76 in 2000. Purchased my '88 in '03 and still have it, but will sell it in the spring.

Ok, so after a month of distractions, I drove the Vette all wekend without incident. Temps are slow, but get to 170-180 on the hiway and 200 in traffic without the a/c.

seems to be fixed! thanks for the help.

Should have it together this weekend.

So 4th of July weekend I go to change out the sensors and I see I'm leaking power steering fluid. Pick up new hoses, start taking things apart, and proceed to cut open my hand on the exhaust manifold heat sheild. Trip to the clinic, half a dozen stitches and a tetnus shot later... I can't wait to see the bill.
Now a week later everythings back together but...

Some how I managed to break off that little plastic switch on the side of the master cylinder. Dealer says discontinued, aftermarket doesn't have...anyone got an old master lying around?

This has been the klutz job from hell...

I hadn't thought of that. The temp guage wire got melted and replaced a while back. Hope to get in there this weekend and start working on this stuff

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, going closed loop sooner makes sense now that I think about it. Don't have a scan tool to check it with though. There are two sensors at the front of the manifold, one on the head + fan switch. My memory is clearing as we disscuss this. Guage sensor is on the head, along with the fan switch. The cold start sensor and the engine temp sensor are seperate, right? ( the 2 on the front)

I wonder if the sensors are just a little slow or have a dead spot? I mean, at those temps you are not getting out of open loop.

Thats kind of what I was thinking, hence the rich smell. Does the computer and guage use the same sensor? Can't recall if the '88 has that extra cold start injector or not. My fuel mileage is down, but not dismal (yet).

yes, the stat has the little "jiggle valve" as I call it, to prevent air lock.

My '88 L98 (what else would that year have?) is running oddly cold. Crusing at moderate speeds, say 50mph, it will barely break 155 degrees. Stop at a light and you might see 170. Takes forever to warm up - hangs around 140 forever. It will go over 200 on a hot day with the a/c running, even 225 in heavy traffic w/ac. Yes it a 195 t-stat, even put in a fresh Delco one to be sure that wasn't the issue. Good heat through the heater, but it does smell like its running rich. No codes and runs fine otherwise.
ideas? maybe not worry about it?

Shopping for a new car now. 1990-2001 SOHC Saturn's get nearly 40mpg hi-way with the 5 speed. Built in the USA! :thumbright:

Not the most exciting thing to drive, but thats what the vettes for on the weekends.

Just paid $45 to fill up my 4-cylinder Grand-Am. It gets 24 in town, 32 hi-way. At 20,000 plus miles a year I need better. (Or more money)

In high school, 20 bucks would fill my truck and buy a road trips worth of snacks...

Watched the Ford commercial, I mean movie, and was sort of dissappointed. Computerized special effects, cheesy double spoiler on the back in some scenes, and of course its a Ford. (at least it looks decent in "regular" 500KR trim) Lets face it, the first show wasn't the highest acheivment of writing, but it was more fun than this one. The stunts were much better too. A few bad model scenes and some under cranked film, but still stunt drivers out doing there thing.

CSS996: there is a Bullitt edtion Mustang coming out this year. Dark green with the correct wheels and no emblems. Saw it NAIAS, pretty cool for a Ford.

yes, there is a vacuum operated valve in the heater line. I would assume that it is triggered shut under A/C operation, but should it remain shut unless heat is called for? Does the vacuum signal open or close it? Maybe the blend door isn't operating correctly? Oh goddess, please don't make me tear into the dash.....
Is there a practical way to ditch the fancy pushbutton BS and hookup the standard controls? (there goes the dash again...)

I'm north of Detroit, have good selection of tools and a small garage. Can't offer crash space unless you like the floor. I'm very close to Waterford Hills road course, 2 hours from Milan Dragway, 3 or so from Michigan International Speedway. Know most every parts store, junk yard and Vette shop around the Detroit aera. Jury-rigging specialist!
I work at the parts counter selling Porsche, Audi, and Land Rover stuff.
(Someone has to keep an eye on the Germans) I can get you killer deals on these parts if you drive one of these piles...

I'm still enjoying the Grand Turismo series. The vettes aren't too good in it though. Saddly mis-programmed. Odd choices too, an L48?The "Corvette" video game that came out a few years ago was horrrible. Sure it was all vettes, but the gameplay and graphics sucked. Gave my copy to my nephew. He doesn't care yet, too young.

before I get the Vette out for spring (just a month or so away) I'd like to find the source of my constant heat. I've got an '88 with the "automatic" climate control. Even in the off or vent funtion, heat pours out of the lower ducts. A/C works normal, so does defrost. You can turn off the fan, but as soon as you are moving hot air comes out of the ducts again. (Pressure from outside air at speed i guess) I stuffed a bunch of foam in the ducts to block the hot air, my feet are happier, but I'd like to fix this correctly.

Thanks

I've had my '88 for 4 1/2 years now. never dreamed I'd have a car like this, never would be able to have another if I sold it. First car I ever drove over 100mph that wasn't a race car.

It was requested that I post a pic of my 88. Is this a rare color? I've only seen 3 other ones in person over the last 5 years. Only one was a 'vert. A few more on line, again targas only.

Photo was last summer at Deals gap. The Dragon sure is a fun road!

A proper 4-wheel alignment. Throw some weigh in the drivers seat to really get it dead on. 1/2 tank of gas is a good comprise for the rear height setting.

Someone had to take the question seriously, right?
