Hey Will,

I know you are doing pistons, I assume to raise compression even more?
Heads, are you shooting for more flow?
Last question, are you changing cams?

Ive seen this car run, and man is it impressive!!

Gary, I have a 93 vert. It is hard to take pictures since I don't have a lift to put it up on. But if you could tell me what you are specifically looking for, ie mounts etc. I can take pictures and send them to you.

If you know where the car was purchased new, the key code is part of the paperwork the dealer received. Slim chance on a car that old, but I thought I would pass it on.

Don't know about those, but I can tell you I have for street wheels, GS replica's 17x11 and 17x9.5 with 315 and 275 tires. For drag racing, I have weld lites, 15x10 with 275x50x15 tires and 15x3.5 with 165sr 15 tires. The weight difference is 75lbs total. This makes 1 to 2 tenths difference with IMO closer to 2 tenths.

Have you checked to see if the blend door is moving? If both heater hoses are hot, it probably is not. You can pull the piece (resistor?) that is in the evap box under the hood. Take a flashlight, look inside, change it from hot to cold and see if the door moves.

Have you tried Ebay? When I purchased a rebuild kit for mine, that is where I got it. I got the red alto clutch packs kelvar band etc. My rebuilder said the parts were fine. There are some good deals on there.

What got me to thinking about it is, I was reading about a C6 LS2 with a 3200 stall converter, 3.15 gear, and he said he had bolt ons only with the motor, and a tune. Said it was 400rwhp. But he said it runs 10.70's at 127mph. I know the C6 is probably lighter, but man, it sure does take a lot to push a C4 that fast.

Good luck this evening!! Look forward to hearing how it runs. FWIW you really should paint that car a different color. Maybe red? White just dosnt look good on corvettes.

OK, lots of dreaming here, but has anyone considered installing a 6L80 transmission in a C4? It has something like a 4.03 first gear. Again, just dreaming!!

Thanks for the offer but unless they are factory colors, I really don't need them.

Bill, What I was trying to say was put the fan on the filter side and blow into the room and then let it naturally exhaust outside through the window. That way the fan is upstream of the fumes from the paint.
But the fan motors for 150 would be the best bet.

Bill, the TCP web site has a lot of good info on it. But for some reason I could not get the color library to work. I could put in the Chevrolet but could not enter the year. I may have to call them on that and see.

Thanks for all your help.

FWIW I would think a sealed motor would be better or setting the fan up to blow through the filters and then exhaust out the window. In other words locate the fan outside of the booth back in the garage. Upstream from the paint booth.

Bill, the problem with the paintshop system is, I don't think they do factory colors.
But if you don't mind me asking a few more questions about the urethane paints.
1. can the basecoat/clearcoat systems be sanded between the color coat and the clearcoat. I may be over thinking this, but I was concerned with dust or dirt getting in the paint.
2. Can you recommend a place, preferably mail order that will sell this?
3. What brand, type of urethane, do you recommend?

I will look at the paint gun you are talking about. What I currently have is a sears gun but it is not HVLP. FWIW I purchased a cheap HVLP from harbor freight years ago, and threw it away. It was junk IMO and would spit the paint.

Thanks to both you and Bogus for your input.

First off, hopefully I posted this in the correct place, but if not, please move it.

My questions are about paint for my car. 35 years ago, I took an autobody class and used to do some "backyard" painting. Used to use acrylic lacquer. It dried fast, and could be wet sanded and buffed. Worked pretty good for a amateur like me.

Does anyone still make a paint with these qualities?
I would prefer a single stage paint. Also, it is going to be white for a 93 corvette, and a white and red for a 87 dodge truck. Neither are metallic paints.

Thanks for your help

Hey Will,

Thanks for posting this up for me. I have my 4 timeslips below with my version of what happened with each one.

The first one, I hit the rev limiter going from 1st to 2nd.
Resized Image

The second one, I hit the rev limiter going from 2nd to 3rd.

Resized Image

The 3rd run was just leaving it in drive, but I went through the traps well past the 6000 rpm factory tach, I figure around 6500

Resized Image

My 4th and final run was leaving it in drive until I got to about 5800rum in 3rd and then shifting into overdrive.

Resized Image

Again, here is a copy of the dyno sheet where Ed Hutchings tuned the car

Resized Image

As you can see, it is still making good power to 6500 rpms. I need to either learn how to shift better, (practice and a better tach or shiftlight) or adjust the governor to shift higher then 5700-5800. These runs were with 3/4 tank of fuel and the hardtop bolted on the car. I really believe the car has the potential to hit 125-126mph.
Gotta say, that Will knows how to build a motor!!

PS I don't pay too much attention to the crap some post over there, you are gonna have some of those everywhere you go. I still had one of the pm's sent to me, (Looks awesome, but why the 100 rwhp gain on the one dyno pull?
462 divide by .80 is 577chp.
What does it trap?
I am confused. That would be close to 500rwhp in a manual trans and that combo doesnt have that potential as the cam and heads are too small, and cubes.

Fill me in ppppp lease.... )

I answered telling him we had bad injectors in the car and Ed changed them out. I also ask if he was implying we were lying?
I never heard back from him. FWIW I think he was upset that he spent probably twice as much money on his engine and wasn't making near the power mine is.

I have run a best of 11.71 at 117.3mph. But that was with a 4.09 gear. I now have a 3.73 gear but the car is making exactly 100 hp and 20 ft.lbs torque more then it did on that run. Will has told me to leave my converter (Yank 3000) alone until we see where it is running. I am probably going to get booted, I don't have a roll bar in the car but that too we are researching now. I really expect to see some 10's but at any rate, its turned out better then I expected!! Will really knows his stuff.

Hey, I am proud of the motor!!! There is a lot to tell about this build so far. First, Will really put a lot of extra time in this motor porting the intake, smoothing oil passages, checking and re-checking everything. Will spent a lot of time shopping for good deals on parts as well as my machine work. I would have never got to this point without his help. Will really knows his stuff!!
The new version of AFR heads are improved. These 210 heads flow 311 cfm. Will specd the cam to match these heads.
Ed Hutchings (hi-tech tuning) has had to work a few bugs out of the tune. 1. reworked the idle passage through the TB to help get the split blm's in order. 2. Found out that my used 30lb injectors were just not flowing near what they should. Ed feels they are at about half capacity. He has replaced them with a set of 60lb injectors that he had on loan. Said with the e85 they are not all that too big. Ed assures me that he can tune the motor on 60's without any problem.
My intention has never been to run e85. As Will said, its come about as a way to pass emissions. I will have 2 chips. 1 for e85 and 1 for pump gas.
Cant wait to get it back and this spring go to the track. My previous best was 11.71 and 117.3mph in the qtr. and 7.51 and 93.75mph in the 1/8. I am now making exactly 100 more rwhp and 20 more ft. tq.
Any guesses on what my new best will be?

Will used the stock pan on mine, again, as said above, it was a cost issue. But there was no clearance issues with it. It bolted right on. Its my understanding alot of that is based on what rods you are using.

Thank you for the compliment!!, My tune was orig. done by mailorder, through pcmforless. Latter, I had Alvin to tune it in person, but only picked up 6hp. To me, that says alot about his ability to mail order tune, especially a very common setup such as mine,.
I was running, 26x11.50x15 ET streets, bias ply on weld lightweight wheels.
I really liked the 4.09 gears. The car is a little quicker with those as compared to the 3.73 I have now. BTW the reason I went to the 3.73 was I was in a hurry to get it back together at that time, and thats what was available at the time.
The converter, I would like a little more stall, but with the new motor, im waiting to see where we are.It probably will be more stall due to the bigger motor.
In time, assuming I continue to drag race the car, I would like to get a solid rear end in it. Will and I have been discussing this as well, but again, that seems to be in the future and not anytime soon.

here is a picture of the head and in the corners you can see where they machined them at the factory.

Tommy, thanks for the advise. Computers are not my cup of tea, so its a struggle for me.
I need to get some more pictures uploaded to photobucket and then I will be adding more to this post.

Well as some of you know, Will (rklessdriver) has been building me a motor. It is a splayed 4 bolt LT1 block, bored .040 over. Ross Pistons, Scat forged crank and rods. 385 ci. We are using AFR 210 heads. Will ported a LT4 intake for me, We are reusing the EM headers, electric water pump etc that I had. The cam is 232-236 and .594 lift. Its one that Will picked out from Mike Jones cams. Compression is 11.25. I am going to try to upload pictures. This will be my first on this site.

Below is a picture of Will opening up the oil returns from the lifter galley to the timing chain. And a couple of his reworking the oil pump area of the motor. More pictures will follow as soon as I figure out the proper way to post.

Thats about the only thing that is fine in that car!! Besides, if he goes to race that one, you got a lot more to rebuild then just a rear end!!

I would be alot happier, to see you take the same car and do a write up on how to install a solid axle!! But at any rate, we will see how well this one holds up!!

Hey Will,

I wanted to come last night and watch you again, but I couldnt finish work soon enough. These rearends in these cars seem to be the weak link for drag racing. Hope to be there next wed. BTW, I think this sunday is Bug in. at old dominion.

IMO, im not sure he stalled or boged. The tape is deceiving as to how fast Wil is moving after he gets out of the hole. I think part of it is due to the camera being zoomed in.

Hey Wil,

Really enjoyed getting to see you again!! You really got me wanting to get one of mine running soon. Let me just say, for those who have not seen your car run, to me, its most impressive from mid track position. After you get started down the track, that front end is raised, and rear is squated, and its moving fast. This wed. is probably going to be a rain out, but if not, I hope to see you there, and maybe pick your brain for some ideas.

Richard

FWIW IMO Wil's car is a mid 6 sec. car with a drag race drivetrain under it. That motor is fast!!

IMO it should just be members here. My reasoning is this, first off, names are not always the same, This is a seperate forum and we should keep it that way. If we pull from a different forum, why not just go on the internet and start collecting drag race data, and then post it? Also, would there be any liabilities for posting info from another forum?
Just my opinion, but whatever you decide is fine by me!! :thumbleft:

I think that would be it for just a start. The tune I offered by Nathan, he did not mind giving out, He did it himself, on a dyno.
FWIW I ran mine (not knowing at that time) for almost a year on the stock tune, but that was with stock injectors. It idled rough, and you could tell that idle and part throttle were rich. But full throttle was only down by about 15-20 hp.
Oh, and if you do get your tune from pcmforless, I think he will e-mail the bin, then you can download it to your own chip and save some money. Also, consider downloading a program called VEmaster, I think. Anyways, you drive the car with your new chip taking datamaster scans, then load the chip bin and it will make fine adjustments to the ve tables.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

It is clearer and better high end freq. But if you have a station that is slightly weak, it cuts in and out rather then a little fuzz like non HD.

How big is the cam? Mine started and ran not too badly with the stock tune.(I have stock injectors) The new chip helped with idle and part throttle more so then the full throttle.
Personally, I think the injectors are going to be the worst part with a stock tune, but if you have a burner, you can change that fairly easily.
By the way, I have a BIN from Nathan Plemons which he ran in his hotcam car I could send you. But I promised Alvin not to send his out.

John

John, I apoligize if I came across as accusing you of anything. I was just trying to make the point clear, that it was plain and simple, he ripped me off. He sold me 2 chips, 1 for emissions, 1 for performance. They both were identical, they both had no tables changed (from the factory tables) on them, and he retried 3 times.

As far as getting into tuning, well I plan to return this car to stock in the next 1 to 2 years and then sell it. I purchased another 93 vette, and the previous owner had a company install a 85mm rear mount turbo on it. Its got all the works, 383 6pt. rollbar, etc. and an accel dfi gen 7 system. I plan to get it tuned on a dyno by a pro, and then hopefully I will be able to learn how to make future changes as needed.
This will be the car that I plan to put one of Leo's rear ends in.
Take care!!

Anybody tried any of the new HD fm radios? I purchased a cheap one from a co. called DUAL for my work van. Anyways I was amazed at the extra stations you get. For example, in our area there is a country sta. WMZQ 98.7 and with the HD they brodcast 2 additional stations, one of them being classic country which I really like.
OK, now I know its time to put my flame suit on!!
