NASCAR was a lot more fun back when there weren't so many rules. It was easy to tell the brands apart since they were using actual body panels, not these cookie cutter cars with different decals. And with the exception of the "Camaro" that Chevy is running everything out there is a non existent 2 door version of a 4 door sedan.

Sorry for the long rant but it is HOT and that tends to make me cranky.

I recently transferred everything over to AT&T U-verse. Phone, TV, and internet (100mbps). Going to save about $60 a month for the next year over what I was paying for DSL for phone and internet and then cable on top of that. So far I like what I am seeing.

I had an interesting visitor at the track last night. I felt something hit my arm and expected it to be a mud clod. Looked down and saw this guy. It was somewhere between 2 and 3 inches long. No idea what it is.

Good afternoon all.

Temps are a bit cooler here today, 77. I think I will go out and do some more lawn and garden work.

Hey Tommy, I have a couple of Burning Bushes that are in bad need of trimming. Are you available for a couple of hours ?

Just finished mowing the lawn in the 83 degree sunshine. Wanted to get it done before it warms up today. Feeling pretty good today, I sent 4 pictures to my racing paper, they put one on their website and published the other 3.

The old girl is ready for her annual trip to Indy tomorrow. Current plan is to hit the road around 10 tomorrow and after the race come back as far as Dayton. I can spend the night and then hit the Air Force Museum on Friday. Got to see the Memphis Belle, she was just put in last week.

Cloudy day here in Ohio.

Just sitting around waiting on AT&T to show up. They are due within the next 1/2 hour or so. I am changing my landline, TV, and internet over to U-verse. It will be a nice little savings and will get me more channels with nothing to watch and also 100mb internet lots faster than the current DSL setup.

Lovely day on the Buckeye State. Mid 80s and sunny most of the day, waiting for the rain to hit later.

Meanwhile, I managed to mow 2 lawns, till the garden and 2 raised boxes. Planting time is rapidly approaching.

My daughter called last night and said she finally understands my dislike of the word extreme. She had just seen the commercial for "Extreme Post-It Notes."

Morning all.

Working to get everything ready for Mid-Ohio this weekend. Really looking forward to seeing IMSA return to this track.

Last night was interesting, I took my 5" telescope out and was able to observe Jupiter and 3 of its moons. Cool experience.

I am calling today a success.

Michelle bought a new kitchen faucet and I was able to get it installed with no issues. I am a card carrying member of the "I Hate Plumbing Club."

Next I was able to "safely" get up on the garage roof and back down twice. There was a limb getting under the shingles that needed trimmed and then a bunch of old leaves to be cleaned off.

I am not tempting fate any further.

John, sorry to hear of your loss.

Well, my printer decided to throw its feet in the air and I had to get a new one. I went with the Canon Pixma Pro-10 and It is living up to my expectations. Decided to experiment with some "metallic" paper today and got excellent results. Coupled with the new camera, this should be a great setup.

The little town of Wesley Pennsylvania will never be the same. On Tuesday, February 20,2018 one of its most loved citizens, my Mother, Mary Potter went to her eternal reward.
Mom was well known as a Sunday School teacher, babysitter, and friend.

Her faith was incredibly strong and she was always active in the church. Whether it was baking for or working at church dinners, mailing bulletins to those that were not able to attend, working holiday safety breaks, or whatever the church needed she was always there.

Growing up, our house was always known as a safe house, even before that term was invented. It was not unusual to find upwards of 20 of the neighborhood kids playing in our little yard. And if one of those kids had a problem, Mom was always there to listen and help however she could.

I think Mom had a hand in helping to raise almost every child that lived in Wesley since we moved there in 1957 (or maybe it was 1958, I’m not sure) but it certainly was a lot of kids.

Anyways, Mom is back with Dad, Grandma and Granddad, and all of her brothers and Sisters. She had told us she was ready to go be with them and now she can be happy.

Our loss is Heaven’s gain.

Well, another week begins. I am scheduled to go over to PA today, Wednesday, and Friday to visit with Mom. She is still in the hospital but recovering very well. She is frustrated with her speech but it is coming along. With any luck, she will get discharged this week. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes over the past few weeks, they help.

Checkup at the Dr went well, I'm still kicking.
Mom is being transferred to rehab today.
Sebring ticket arrived in the mail.

Yeah, a pretty good day.

Busy day ahead.

Heading over to PA to visit with Mom for a few hours. Stopping at the florist first to get something to brighten her room up. Plus I have a few treats for her to enjoy.

It is about a 1 1/2 hour ride each way.

Best wishes to Mrs. Captmike13.

To paraphrase The Greatful Dead,"What a Long Strange Week and a Half It's Been". After Mom went into the hospital on the 23rd with a heart attack, she was discharged on Friday the 26th. Saturday evening I get a call, they were taking her back in with chest pains. Turned out to be fluid buildup. Everything was looking good until Sunday night when the stroke hit. She has the use of all of her extremities but her speech has been hit. It is improving rapidly by the day.

So far, I don't think I like 2018.

Morning all.

Well, that was not the night I planned for. When I got home last night at about 9:30, I found a message on the phone, they were rushing Mom to Butler Hospital. She had had a heart attack. Sent straight into surgery, right side 100% blocked. By the time I got there just before midnight, she was out of surgery and recovery "resting comfortably" in a room in ICU. She slept off and on through the night and was heading in for an ultrasound this morning. At this point everything looks good.

I decided to enhance my rather eclectic music and movie collection yesterday. Bought 2 Leon Redbone CDs, 1 by John Prine and the movie Airplane. All good stuff.

Busy day ahead. I need to get things packed and ready to head to Delaware for the weekend. Hoping to be on the road by 8:00 tomorrow morning. Hardest part will be deciding what CDs to take along for the radio free part of the drive. Fun weekend is planned.

"Good news, everyone."

I got the word today that I will get my first pension check on February 1. I guess I really am retired. The best part of it is, it will be retroactive to September.

Andy, I am in full agreement with Letty on the graphics idea. To me, the site is getting tired and really needs spruced up. A few things that bother me, the slanted "Welcome to" is a little thing but it doesn't work for me. I don't read on an angle and the angle of this actually draws your eye away from "CORVETTEGURU.COM" Next is the little pictures of all the generations, maybe replace with a larger rolling picture of each generation. More eyecatching. Lastly, don't be the do all guy, you have lots of talent available to you on here for help and guidance, don't be afraid to use it.

Morning all. Currently it is 12 degrees here in the Buckeye State with a -2 wind chill and snowing like crazy. Not looking forward to wandering out to shovel the sidewalks and feed the birds, but I will get to that shortly. Everyone stay warm.

Hi Gang.

I am still here. Trying to turn 2018 into a more normal year.

If you recall, when I last posted, my nephew was dealing with cancer on his tongue. He had his surgery and has been doing as well as can be expected. Right now he is dealing with them trying to open his throat so he can drink and maybe eat without his feeding tube. He has had a rough time of things for 34 years old.

The Little Red Car is still running great. It is in hibernation right now resting up for the big ride to Sebring in March. Hard to believe it is only 2 1/2 months away.

I got a really big surprise back in July. Along with about 350 other folks, my position was eliminated at work. I had 44 years in and was less than 2 years from retirement. The good news is my financial guy said we could easily turn this into retirement, so we did. I just have to deal with health insurance for the next year and a half.

That sort of catches you up, I should be here more regularly now.

Oh, one last thing, I will be heading to Detroit to get pictures of the "new" Corvette in a couple of weeks. Stand by for pics.

KP

It is incredibly quiet, I noticed immediately that I was playing the radio at a much lower volume.

And plush, like riding on a nice leather easy chair.

At night, the interior has a lot of really cool LED lighting. Looks like the Enterprise.

Well, I went and did it. I bought the Lacrosse. As I was walking down to the dealer this morning this thought crossed my mind, "Oh, crap ! I'm getting old, I'm buying a Buick !"

So far I am really enjoying it.

As for the name, the car is Pearl White, and "Pearl" was Janis's biggest album.

I might just have found the Impala's replacement.

Pearl white 2011 Buick LaCrosse. Very nice car, only 40k on the clock and priced at $15995. With my down payment the payments will be very manageable. Insurance increase is less than $4 a month.

If you want to take a peek: http://www.donsitts.com/details.cfm?s ... BD0881F325&cfid=358162847

The pictures don't do it justice.

Good Day, all.

Couple of quick updates. First off, my nephew will be having his surgery next Friday. The tumor is currently smaller than it was when they first found it. Long recovery and therapy ahead but everything looks good.

Insurance company made it official yesterday, the Impala SS is totaled. The good news is they valued the car a lot higher than the numbers I was finding in Kelly Blue Book. I look to get a check in the neighborhood of $6000 after they take the deductible out and payoff the loan. Nice downpayment on the replacement. Hmmm, Silver Streak II or Vlad the Impala ?

Morning, gang. Yes, I am still around. Time for an update.

As you will recall, we found out my nephew has cancer. Well his response to the chemo has been nothing short of miraculous. They are evaluating him to see if they want to proceed with a 3rd round of chemo and / or surgery. Best case neither would be needed. Waiting to see.

About 2 1/2 weeks ago, I had a visit to the hospital to blow up a huge kidney stone. All went well and I am still functioning.

Several says after getting out of the hospital, I was taking the little blind woman to work and totaled the Impala. Nobody was hurt. We are assuming the car is going to be totaled, high book is about $5600 and the estimate is $8300. Time for some car shopping. Meanwhile, the 'vette has been fun driving.

Later.

Hey gang, I know I have been pretty lax on posting lately but it has been really stressful here on Planet Potter.

You probably are not aware that I have twin nephews both of which are Iraqi veterans. Well, one of them at the age of 33 has just been diagnosed with tongue cancer. They were supposed to operate this past Tuesday but had to stop the surgery because the tumor had grown to include one tonsil and surrounded his trachea.

The options they gave him were:
1. Immediate surgery to remove everything which would cause loss of speech and ability to eat. He would have a feeding tube the rest of his life.
2. Radical chemo to shrink/kill the tumor so they could operate at a later date retaining the ability to eat and speak.
3. Death.

He chose option 2.

The commander at his base has issued an order that all who served in Iraq are to schedule and take a full physical examination. The other twin had his exam the other day and so far looks to be clean, just waiting for the final bloodwork results.

Apparently tongue cancer is pretty frequent among Iraqi veterans, lots of articles out on the web about it.

Pretty heavy dose of reality there.

Hi all. I am still here. I have been battling with kidney stones lately and I am not done yet. I go in for hopefully, my last surgery on 8/18 to blow up the huge one on my right side. The amazing part is I am not in any pain.

Anyways, this past Saturday we had a great sunset at the race track so I will share it with you.

At noon today I leave for Delaware. Time to watch the grandson graduate high school. Got the 'vette all shined up last night and it is ready to roll.

Looks like someone had a good day on the water. Wonder what they used for bait.

Morning, all.

As of 4 o'clock this afternoon, it is vacation time. And what a busy vacation it is shaping up to be.

Going to try to get at least part of the garden in if the weather holds up. Lots of lawn work to do as well.

Thursday I head out to Indy for the Hoosier 100. One of my favorite races to shoot.

Have a great weekend !

Busy weekend. Saturday morning I headed over to PA to mow my Mom's lawn and deliver her Mother's Day present. She got what she wanted, a gift card to her local grocery store. Then I headed back to the Buckeye state for some sprint car racing. Buddy of mine lives a few miles from the track said,"The weather is nice here." Check out the picture to see what the weather was really like. Nice weather, my ass.

Sunday, The little blind woman and I headed up to Cleveland for my birthday dinner. Really nice seafood place called Don's Lighthouse. I had lobster and she had a tuna dish. Took a while to get the meal, the waitress said they were making me a new lobster tail since the first one they cooked didn't look "appropriate." I'm thinking,"Hmmm, an inappropriate piece of tail."

I have been somewhat negligent in my posting lately. Crazy busy.

In honor of the Eta Aquariid meteor shower that we are now in the midst of, and the 55th anniversary of the first American manned space flight I offer up this little diddy.

I think it was showing me some mercy. I try to keep both vehicles properly maintained. I just wish I had the time and space to do some of the work myself like back in the good old days. Tuneup was oil change, plugs, points, condenser, maybe wires. Hook up the old dwell / tach and dial it in. Good to go.

How do inanimate objects (cars) know when some extra money might be coming your way ?

As you will recall, yesterday I paid off the 'Vette. Dropped the Impala off for regular service and a couple of little annoyances. The garage, whom I totally trust, found a couple more that need to be dealt with.

So, normal service and tire rotation, heater mixer door replacement, starter is beginning to go - replace, Shifter inspection (doesn't always want to come out of park), front bushings. I hear mt credit card crying to the tune of $1050.

Hey, the car has almost 120k on the clock it is time for some things to start wearing out.

Tomorrow, oil change on the 'Vette.

And what a morning it has been. First off, the inanimate objects in the kitchen started some sort of a revolt this morning.
I dropped an egg carton getting it out of the refrigerator, fortunately the egg survived. Then the window screen I have leaning in the end of my counter said, “Hey watch this.” And fell over.
Then the trash said, ”I can do better than that" and promptly fell over and scattered all over. I got that cleaned up.
Finally the eggs said, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.” And grabbed hold of the bottom of the skillet and would not let go. I beat the hell out of them with my spatula. They still tasted good.
On the way in I discovered that today is driving day at the asylum. I think they gave all of the inmates a driver’s license and a car and told them to have fun. It was crazy out there.

Moving on to the good part of the morning, I baked brownies last night and they came out really nice. I already sampled one, it killed my sugar numbers.

The new computer has shipped and will be here on Monday. Can't wait to check it out.
