Thanks T.
I agree, but our crazy uncle Joe has pushed that back for me.
Besides, there’s longevity cash plus I’m waiting on my 401 to get fully vested.

Hi all!
I’m still here.
A great deal of negativity going on so rather than bother others I’ve been
keeping a low profile.
You guys take care.

After I wrote out my post on Thursday evening, I got a call from the union guy. Apparently only 25 showed up for 2nd shift and so many were calling in for 3rd, they sent 2nd shift home and canceled 3rd. Everyone in skilled trades has agreed it’s truly out of character for them to do that. I’m just glad I didn’t have to drive in that weather.
Yesterday I braved the elements and did what I could to clear the driveway. Limited success as the snow was preceded by a solid glaze of ice, followed by about an inch and a half of now frozen sleet. But it’s passable.
My greatest achievement for Friday was cutting paths through the backyard so, “the boys,” could find a place to do some business.
Oh, I also found I was wrong about snow emergencies. Our county re-instituted them some time ago as the Sheriff then got tired of his deputies risking so much more injury while dealing with the traffic problems that weather brings. Now there’s fewer people on the road, and fewer snow related accidents.
Gotta hit the sack, have a good weekend!

Hi all!
As the big topic is the weather, I’ll get to it momentarily.
Doing a bit of catching up.
Mat, I’m very happy you’re ok after that wreck. Scary stuff indeed.
Tommy, glad you were able to avoid the storm of falling lizards.🤔

Weather wise, I hope everyone is able to stay inside and out of the mess.
Here in Dayton it depends on what station you watch as to what you can expect.
Last night they were touting today’s snow-pocalypse. So far though it’s a good base of ice with a crunchy sleet frosting. It does look as if snow is beginning. The original estimates were 1”-18”. Who know what’ll happen. At least we can still look forward to sub-zero winds in the next couple days.
Oddly enough, Lexington,Ky has had a lot more snow this year than we have, and they’re almost 150 miles south of us.
Because of the weather I’ll be leaving for work much earlier, so it’s time to sign off. But here’s one last point of interest. The companies I’ve worked for say they only close for Level 3 snow emergencies. After the blizzard of 1978, this county knuckled under to industry and now has a policy of no snow emergencies. So even if you trash your vehicle trying to get to work, you’re still subject to the attendance policy and the “points” system.
I keep telling myself it’s just this one last winter.
Stay safe everyone.

Hi guys,
I hope everyone is doing well and prospering in the new year.
Can’t hardy believe it’s been three weeks since I stopped in. The work schedule is getting to me more than I thought. I’ve got tonight off and the hours have been cut back to 8/day instead of ten. Having worked for the tool and die industry for so long, a reduced work schedule causes the knee jerk worry about layoffs. Especially since the place is closing. The general consensus is it’ll happen before the projected time, but what throws a wrench in that idea is they’re hosting a hiring event tomorrow morning.
Well, I’d better quit here since I just fell asleep writing this.
Have a good weekend everyone.

As per usual, the job has me occupied throughout otherwise normal human hours of the day.
Over the holidays I made a bit of progress on the never ending project. But, not quite enough, but I press on regardless.
I very much hope everyone is well and prosperous in this new year. I’m currently ready to snooze and a bit bleary eyed, so I haven’t read up on how things are going. I’ll try to catch up later.
Have a great day everyone!

It makes me happy you all had a nice Christmas! We did too. Daughter and BF were here a couple days then this morning went to his folks house.
My son had a better Christmas than the last couple as his health was better.
Mrs. Bob was stressed about everything, but it all went well, and she’s resting well.
As for me, my work schedule has me messed up and I slept the day away. Hopefully I’ll sleep tonight too and get straightened out.
Merry Christmas to all of you.

Hi guys.
It’s been a while since I stopped by. Nothing really happening other than a crummy work schedule and the usual load of daily negative little junk. None of it amounts to anything but it’s just junk.
We did get a new union contract voted in. That’s in a shop that’s closing in a reported two years. I’ll be out before then, but the way it’s written shows they don’t anticipate being there in 2023 at all.

On a more fun item. In 2013 I lost my job and felt I needed to do what was best to cover health in$urance, and sold my 88 coupe. A couple weeks ago I let curiosity get the best of me and began searching for the car.
I found it.
The car is currently in Little Rock, Arkansas and after speaking to the owner is available to me. Initially, I was going to go get it. But after a very distracted 24 hours I had to call the man back and decline. Again, that feeling of doing what’s best for the family.
I’ll live.
You might be wondering why I’ve not said anything regarding Christmas.
I guess it’s celebration has changed to the point where I just don’t like it much anymore. But here’s what I do like, I like that the hope granted to us each and every day through Jesus Christ gives me the ability to face the junk thrown at me every day. His peace given to me allows me to fall asleep without fear of the coming day. And, the the ability given to me to continue caring about friends and strangers alike is still with me.
Have a wonderful Christmas my friends, and may the coming new year be filled with blessings for you and your families.
I’ll let you know if I end up going to Little Rock.

Having seen the reports on western Kentucky, I hope no one has family in those areas. I have a brother and his family in Lexington and haven’t been able to reach anyone.

Once again, because I don’t know the extent of the storms and the geography covered, l hope losses are kept as low as possible.
As I submitted, Fox is saying Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Illinois have been damaged.
I’m hoping Letty is safe and sound.

Good morning and happy Thanksgiving!
It’s nice to wake up in the morning instead of still being awake after work. Haven’t done this since I went back from my knee surgery.
It’ll be low key today. Daughter is off with her bf, the son isn’t feeling too well, so it’s just going to be me and her. Oddly enough, I’m kind of looking forward to it.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Just catching up.
I’m sorry about the cat. It’s like losing a part of ourselves sometimes.
Looking forward to another action-packed night here at the crayon factory.
Lots of speculation regarding the coming shutdown. The one thing Everyone seems to agree on is that we won’t know for sure until they lock the doors.
Most think there will be a buyout or incentives to stay on til the bitter end. Again, who knows?
With the schedule I’m on, I don’t get out much. If I’m off Saturday night I’ll go to dinner with the Missuz.
That wraps up the Ohio Report for tonight, Wednesday, November 17, 2021.
Good night everyone.

That’s almost a direct quote of what I was thinking when I read his post!😁

My dad used to refer to the R word as Graduated. So do I, but most people don’t know what I’m talking about. Speaking of some guys, I found out today my 74yo brother took his wife’s Cadilliac in for an oil change and brought home a ‘19 Sierra Extendo-Cab. He still drives 50 miles each way to work and says he has no plans to stop. I can’t say I blame him. We’ve both known too many guys that retired and went home that night and died. No joke. I think it’s the tool trade that does it. There was one guy drove to work, put it in Park, and croaked before he got the key out. When he was found that day the engine was running but he wasn’t.

Have a good week this week!

Sorry I’ve been so scarce lately, we’ve been working 10 hours daily and weekends as well. I’m off tonight as there’s an inventory being conducted so they cancelled everyone’s Sunday.
Big news here is that corporate has decided to shut down the plant I work at. They project it’ll take two years, but with the current things going on, probably more like a year or a bit more. My target for retirement was next August anyway so it’s not going to be too bad for my purposes. I’ll just make the money while I can and be done.
The funny thing is that a week ago new contract negotiations started and our union business manager put out a flyer by the timeclocks clearing up the rumors going around. The very first item stated, “The plant is not closing.”

OOOPS!😁

I’m pretty sure the contract talks won’t bear much fruit. But we’re hoping that there’s financial incentives made to keep people from jumping off too soon. Time will tell, I guess.

Have a great Sunday folks!

Just reading a bit of this week’s postings.
Tee, I’m sorry you lost your friend. It’s never easy.

Tommy, regarding telling our wives we’re sick/dying, mine just tells me,” Don’t make a mess!” Oddly enough, it’s just not as funny now as it was the first time I said it to her.

As far as everything else, things are settling back into the usual roar of life at the double-wide. I’ve got a few more days of half-days at work, then I’m back at it with the OT and long hours. I’m going to try to go straight through to Thanksgiving and then again through to Christmas. At least that’s going to be the attempt. At this writing I’m planning to leave toolmaking in 275 days. August 1st. I’d considered going through til October 1st, of ‘23 to make it an even 50 year career, but now that I’ve had a taste of the good life while I was off, I think I’m ready.
I just hope my wallet is.

Hi guys,
Tee, it sounds like your friends got pretty lucky there.
When we were selling my dads house, we found his old, original panel was against code. Apparently “Federal Pacific “ had a large reputation for causing fires. Dad was lucky because his was mounted to the concrete basement wall. But when shown, I could tell it had been VERY hot.

Gris, I’m sorry you were injured in Nam. None of our generation deserved that. My BIL was an officer wounded twice by friendly heavy weapons fire.

I’ve got to say, I’m conflicted over the “boosters” or whatever they are. But those in the service may have a point. Most or all of the vaxxes they get are proven, not rushed to usage. That’s part of my concern over it. From the info I’ve seen, the man who’s credited with creating the MRNA protocols won’t take the vax. I’ve also gotten that from friends in the medical field. Until I learn why, or it’s positively debunked or credited I’ll delay my choice.

Fortunately the drama here has slowed a great deal. We had a meeting with a surgeon re taking my son’s appendix on Wednesday, but he hasn’t gotten back yet. Wife thinks we’re getting blown off.
Otherwise , I’m on half-days at work. It’s odd how I’m kind of glad to be back, but not. I think it’s because I’ve had a taste of the good life that’s awaiting…

Onward and upwards friends!

Happy Tuesday everyone! After reading up on the days I’ve missed, it’s good to see things are well for most.
Since my last entry my son spent another 12hours in the ER on Friday. This time they’ve referred us to a surgeon regarding his appendix/gallbladder.
I’m taking him to see the surgeon tomorrow morning. We hoping for some answers, but from what I’ve gathered the topic of Mast cells is something that’s mainly talked about, but no one knows anything for sure.
Yesterday, I got a frantic call as the daughters impala decided there was no oil in the engine. She stopped and checked it and the level was fine. She nursed it home and called me. I grabbed some tools and a new filter and blasted 70 miles. It seemed to me to be a plugged or collapsed filter. I got there as the sun dropped and was done and on my way in an hour. Reports from her say the car is now working, but the night is young.
Thinking my day was done, I got a call from the missuz stating everything in the kitchen fridge was warming and the fridge was officially on the blink. So I spent today thumbing thru websites for the desired fridge while having a fragmented discussion with her as she worked. Good news, it only took $1800 American to schedule a delivery for tomorrow.
I’ll be going back to work on Thursday, but the best part is that the Doctor wants me doing 4 hrs/day for two weeks. What makes that so much fun is that I’ve been ordered to work the latter half of my workday meaning that for the next two weeks, I’m to report to work at 3:30am for four hours/night.
I’m not pleased.
I prefer second shift, third absolutely stinks, and first shift has far, far too many white people walking around pushing their imagined authority on people. Oh, for future reference, that’s what I call first shift people that dream of their importance and come around with their entitlement, White People.
Well, that’s it for me today. Have a good week, and stay healthy everyone.

Thanks for the understanding Mat. It’s reassuring to hear some understanding from others.
It’s less than a week now before my grand re-entrance at work. I need the money is why I’m going back, but I’m having a hard time with it.. this being off every day is the goooood life.
In other news, I had the driveway here at the double-wide sealed yesterday. It was badly needed.
And lastly, I painted and put new seals in my C5 calipers. These are replacing those on the car now. I’ll go thru the rears at another time. I figure that after sitting 16 years they’re probably going to need it.
That’s it for me today. Have a good one!

Good morning!
Things were ok but now I’m with my son at the ER.

I need to vent some, so I’ll tell you now, the rest of this is a downer. Read it at your own choice.
He’s had lifelong food allergies and other gastro related issues. Since April he’s lost over 40lbs. because he can’t hold it down. This has caused a great deal of depression and acting out from his frustration.
I’m pretty sure that the medical practices regarding the digestive system and other related things are, at best just beyond the doctor sitting and pounding out rhythms on a log. It’s because of these issues he’s unable to hold a job. It’s getting worse as he ages.
I’ve been advised by friends to try the Cleveland Clinic, but he and my wife aren’t on board with it.
Dealing with it for so long has worn us all down, and I’m sure it’s not been good for our marriage. But the one major worry we share is what will happen after we’re gone. We won’t even begin to ask his sister to babysit him. She deserves a life. But his development issues preclude his independence, and group homes won’t be able to feed him.
We’ve tried different levels of counseling, but that’s just a route to pills, not actual help.
I kind of hope I haven’t ruined anyone’s day with this. I don’t want any pity for it.
I really just needed to spit it out.
Thanks.

Good to see everyone is getting out and about.
To answer T’s question, the knee is doing well. My summer vacation ends on the 20th as I’m supposed to get back to work then.
I went out to Cars n Coffee this morning. Nice weather and a good turnout. Saw a number of C8’s there in a variety of colors. Daughters BF pointed out a Lamborghini that his dads body shop had fixed. Then the owner was showing off and wrecked it again.
Otherwise , pretty lazy day here. Have fun while the weather’s still good!

Happy Friday everyone!
T, that was an awfully nice thing you did for the lady. Funny how good you feel after doing that stuff, isn’t it?
I’m not blessed with construction skills, so I try to find those spur of the moment chances to help others. It’s truly a good feeling.
We’ve got the daughter coming home with her BF for the week. Currently waiting on them to arrive so we can head out for margaritas.
Lastly, our veterinarian is getting rich this week as Ralphie the wonder dog (aka wreck it Ralph) has developed pancreatiti$. We’re fairly worried about him too. Funny how when they’re not barking and driving us nuts we get so worried about them.
Have a great weekend everyone!

G’morning Gris and all to come!
Congratulations on the milestone Mat!
As far as becoming wealthy, have you tried the Washington method? That’s where you spend everything you can, then borrow everything you can along with looking for money you have no rights to, and then spending all of that. According to the example set by the people in Washington, this is the way to prosperity. Let me know how it turns out. 🤓
Not much of a day planned here. A little stretching, maybe even get on my bicycle and find a hill to climb. After that I’ll probably hit the local cruise and walk a bit more.
You guys have a great day and a better weekend!

Thanks Mat. I’ll google it and take a look.
Otherwise, it’s looking like a good day here. I hope you all have a good one as well.

Hi everyone.
After a few years of his retirement, my dad said he didn’t know how he had time for a job. Now, after having been off over two months, I’m beginning to understand that comment. I’m really not looking forward to going back to work.
Tee, I’m sorry for the loss of the family member. As I’ve said in past comments, I’m at a loss at these times because I don’t like to say the same things as so many of those who attend funerals.
Just reading up on the last week, things got a bit serious. I know I’ve told you all about my funeral wishes, but what I’ve told my wife is go to the undertaker and ask him to see the cheapest casket they can get. Then see if she can just use the box it came in. I don’t go for cremation myself, but cheap burial is definitely on the table.
By the way, Costco sell caskets at a significant savings over the homes. A guy. I worked with had to buy a couple in a year. He swore he saved 2/3rds each time.
That’s enough of that.
My daily “go to work, save gas” ride crapped out last week so I took a quick offer from a local dealer and dumped it. Today I picked up a ‘12 Malibu that’s facing a fairly tough future as the sacrifice I’m offering in order to save my truck and the wife’s Impala.
I’ve just noticed I’m going a bit long, so I’ll quit now.
Have a great week Gurus!

Good morning Gris!
We’ve been getting the rain here for a couple days now. I’m hoping it’ll reinvigorate some of the brown areas, but I’m not holding my breath.
Nothing on the schedule today except a bit of domestic activity.
Have a great day Gurus.

Did you ever find the issue causing the vibration?

Hi all,
Just read up on the past few days.
Happy anniversary Mat!
Thanks for the good thoughts on the leg. It’s doing pretty well now.
If anyone has noticed my absence these past few days, I’ve been working on the never ending project. I was going through my notes on it and realized I’d overlooked proper preparation of the lifters and rockers and set about to take care of it. I discovered a lifter body was not only missing a broken off section, but the piece was not visible anywhere.
Terror began to set in.
I soon surrendered to the fact the oil pan was going to be removed.
After removing the pan and windage tray, I looked through the bottom end with flashlights, probe-camera, and even mini-magnets and fingers.
No chip of lifter. All while rotating the crank periodically.
I also found my oil pump drive shaft to be substandard and had to replace it.
Preparing to reinstall the windage tray, I noticed the rod bolts of my stroker had been scraping and bending the tray. (???)
Using my nearly adequate metalworking abilities, along with a Torch and hammer, the windage tray now fits just fine!
So after three days of worry, work, a few bucks, not only are the issues resolved, but I’ve got a gashed knuckle, a bruised/bloody eyebrow (falling ratchet), a scraped elbow, and somehow my leg feels actually GREAT!
It must’ve been the exercise of getting up and down.
Time for a beer for Bob. I’m relaxing tonight!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Mat,
I agree your observation of low mileage/low maintenance. The common thought being,”I haven’t driven it much, why should I change the oil?”
Between that and Fram oil filters, I don’t know what does more damage to engines and transmissions.
I have to admit, it’s nice to be associated with others that appreciate the concept of vehicular maintenance.
Had a blood clot scare, ultrasound says I’m ok.
That’s about all the action I can take for one day.
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, here’s to the Gurus!

I’ve only read on here and that other forum about the cracking. But it seems it was on the early and late L98’s, and the LTx cars. More so on the ‘88 and later cars.
I don’t really know where they’re prone to crack.

One final thought, is your a/c mounting bracket possibly cracked?
That’s been known to happen on rare occasions.

From here I’d try looking at the entire accessory drive system. My reason is that on an 86 it sounded all the world like the steering pump was shot. Turned out to be a diode in the alternator.
My point is
A) yes, something may have happened when you changed the a/c clutch. But after re-reading your description, I think the compressor is reaching the end.
B) if you still have the old tensioner, try putting it back on in case you got a bad one.
C) check your water pump and other belt driven components. You never know what might turn up.
I know it’s not much to go on, but it might be worth a try, and it’s free to listen to.
Best of luck, again, I hope this helps.

I’m in the midst of a project, and there’s been a couple times I’ve addressed this exact issue.
If you haven’t got the little spacers on your headers for longer bolts, I suggest you try to come up with some. Often, guys cut the old ones off the OEM manifold.
For a bolt, you can usually get away with using a factory double ended bolt that came off your original system also. You may at this point be able use the oem rod.
I went to a home improvement store and got some steel tube. The wall was thin, so as I recall I got ~1/2” and the next size down to use for additional strength.
Then I cut them to length, Insert the tubes together and use a vise to smash one end of the combined tubes. This may or may not be easy, depending on your vise.
Tip: don’t use aluminum tube as it’ll split when you crimp it.
At this point it’s just drilling the flattened part for the bolt on the exhaust, bend it, then complete the compressor end.

One thing, if you used the oem support rod, and a spacer long enough to accommodate the angle to clear your headers, just make sure you have a bolt that give proper thread-in length so as not to strip out the hole. Another way is to use threaded rod cut to length, a nut to fasten the header, and a second nut for the rod.
I hope this helps.

Hi everyone.
Just got done reading up on the past few days.
Glad everyone made it thru the weather ok.
We’re having a low key weekend here it seems. Tomorrow is
CB Jr’s 26th birthday and he’s fighting health issues again. Food allergies for the most part. We never know what will/won’t set it off.
The knee is coming along fine. Can’t seem to develop any kind of endurance in it. Standing in line at the store was a killer.
That’s about all I have today.
Have a good Labor Day everyone.
