Andy, glad it's back up and running. The only reason I made it here to the new site was because I happen to see the notification on Facebook. I know we have quite a few members on FB, but I'm sure many do not.

Might not be a bad idea to send out a mass email to all Guru members about the new address and to have them copy and paste it into the bookmark they use when logging in.

Sounds like they simply needed to visit their local Chase and get a line of credit. Done and gone.

The rest sounds like smoke and mirrors.

From what I read in a different source...keeping in mind I actually had no idea who this group was prior to reading about this...they reached out for investors to help them grow. The problem is they wanted the money for growth but they wanted to stay in control and keep things as is for themselves. The investors obviously will not shell out huge moneys for growth without significant interaction and a big piece of the pie.

I agree with Andy, I think there's a lot more to the story though.

I get out... check the right rear tire... nope, not flat.

I double check the left rear tire... nope, not flat...

I peak under the rear suspension only to find that the rear transverse leaf spring has BROKEN. Sheared right clean off at the end... 3" to 5" not there no mo...

Fun, eh?

Finally got home about 8:45... lost three hours to this shit... damnit... not how I had planned on spending a quite Tuesday nite at home.

Dish, whom Sarah and I love, have the wireless box options for multiple TVs. One feature we love about Dish is that our main unit allows us to tune in from anywhere and watch what is recorded on the box. Traveling, on a computer or phone, we can watch anything that is recorded at our house. Obviously we also have remote control via a phone app to change and record things even when we are not home.

That's a messy shop. I'd have a crisis trying to perform a drive train swap in a project with things thrown around like that. LOL.

I'm happy to see the project is moving forward. I wish I could have played a bigger role in the LS swap portion, but there was way too big of an upside to having it done by a shop.

Don't you have that Shark Bite thing in the rear?

This whole quest started because I began researching putting a late C3 aluminum diff in my '77, to replace the iron unit. The 40lb difference is quite attractive. Still figuring out if the diff will work without major mods, but even still, I would have to use late C3 half shafts and axle flanges to make the rear end work...which ironically uses 1330 yokes. I wouldn't have wanted to use an adapter joint, so I looked into late C3 half shafts, and then I naturally thought...if I don't end up putting in the aluminum diff, I will at least get a set of C4 half shafts, have them sized to match my car, and shave off a few lbs that way at least.

I do in fact have shark Bite, and LOVE it.

These are quite light, actually.

If you need some, get a set from vette2vette.com, his used prices will be very attractive.

Thanks. The measurements are far less important now. I've actually dug up a few folks who've done what I want to do. Shortening a set of C4 shafts for my C3. The weight differences seem to be worth the couple hundred it'll cost to have them shortened. I know they use the same joint so really I just have to take my stock shaft in with the C4 shafts, and he can measure from one to the other.

I have no doubts the shaft will hold up fine to my non aggressive driving style.

The project actually started out as a research job I was doing to see what it would take to put the aluminum D44 from the late C3 into my '77 to replace the iron unit. So far it's a mountain of fabrication that may not be worth the 30lbs.

I don't need anything super strong, but I figured if the same shaft was used on base cars and ZR1s then it wouldn't matter which year or model I got...they would all be the same. Mainly I just want the lighter aluminum shaft, and while I will have to shorten them, I like that, near as I can tell, they use the same 1350 joint as my C3 half shafts.

In regards to the C4 half shafts:

How many versions of the aluminum half shafts were there through the different model variations?

Does anyone have a set they can measure for me? Length from joint center to joint center, diameter, and weight?

Did the ZR1 have a heavier duty half shaft than the other models or did they all share the same half shaft.

Does the half shaft use 1330 or 1350 joints?

Thanks guys.

You'll like it. I've always been a HUGE fan of the Kenwood Excelon line. I have them in all my cars.

Kenwood has what some call 'complicated' menus and while yes they do take a little comprehension to understand...for an educated person they make a lot of sense.

Take pics when you install it.

My Optima Yellow has been phenomenal. I bought it new about 6 years ago but I wasn't ready for it so it sat on a workbench shelf for about a year without a tender. I got it out and dusted it off to put it in and it was still holding a 13V charge.

I installed it, killed it a few times via bad drain, kept it up with a Tender for the majority of the 5 years it's been in service, and it will still start the engine without issue.

I have a feeling I am on borrowed time though so I am prepared to buy a new one when this one finally dies.

In my Ram, Durango, and Saab...we run with O'Reilly Super Start batteries. I usually get 4 - 5 years on average from them.

I am not an expert with these C4 parts but isn't that a fantastic price for a good GM backup part?

Thanks for all the help guys. I finally got the dedicated and registered page for Built By DB on Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/BuiltByDB

It's ready to be 'Liked' and 'Shared' and i can put it on a simple business card and T-shirts to wear at car shows.

Locally, I think it'll help a lot for selling Hydroboosters, and because I can ship out a lot of the things I make or sell it should carry nationally better than my hotrod photography site would.

Stay tuned, I have two projects with updates coming soon.

Thanks again.

Coming up, I have a few Hydroboosters for new makes and models I haven't done before, a custom aluminum shifter ball for a C3 Corvette, and I'm going to be finishing my aluminum throttle body adapter plate for the '67 Camaro project.

Stay tuned.

I guess it's not 25 that gets you from a community page to a business page because I'm at 27 right now and it hasn't switched. That means I either need 3 more or 8 more, assuming it's 30 / 35.

I have a few Hydroboosters completed at home and ready to ship out that I will post pics of on that sight so if you have any friends that like car part porn share with them too.

Hi friends. I know a lot of you follow my hotrod photography page, and I'm just now releasing it's companion page to showcase the more mechanical side of my automotive hobby.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Built-By-DB/113660318665990

In order to be a community page, I need to generate some 'Likes' and I would greatly appreciate your help. Just follow the link, 'Like' it, and you're done.

I won't post from that page nearly as often so it won't clog up your news feed every morning, but when I am working on a cool or fun project I'll post some pics with a brief description of what I'm doing and why.

Thanks for your help and support.

Matt

This is the next head unit I buy and try in my daily driver Durango. I don't listen to CDs much anymore, mostly just radio, but what I like about it is it's 3G capability like a Nook or Kindle, and access to apps like Gooogle Maps. In dash navigation without the huge screen, and since I have a 1.5 DIN I can't get the more common 2 DIN nav systems.

The grey plastic piece with the stud is the portion that is broken off. It's the grommet that holds the 4 wires in the distributor and the cap seals down on top of it. As I understand it, it's a single harness and the grommet part can't be removed.

Hey Awesome, thanks for chiming in.

As I understand it, the plastic grommet is molded onto the wiring, as seen in this image. If you have a junk distributor, I'll pay shipping plus whatever you want for it and I'll have you box it and ship it to me.

It's a show engine. Considering the distributor is in great shape otherwise, with quality parts and a new gear...it would be silly to replace the radiator for just that grommet, but on that same token...whatever I do to 'rig' it needs to look great and be functional.

Someone mentioned that the grommet might actually be a part of the harness that goes into the distributor and not the distributor body like I assumed.

I wonder if anyone is making or selling replacement harnesses? Maybe a vendor that sells rebuild kits for these distributors would have the wiring harness?

Have you tried the vette2vette site? I've picked up a few different little items from them for my 89. Most recently those damn little aluminum screws from the throttle position sensor, which I was unable to find anywhere else . You might check in with Jason, his email is vette2vette@mchsi.com. Luck to ya !

Hey Scott7 I have a pair of those screws, actually TWO pair of those screws that are spares. Should have checked with me first...I'd have sent them free of charge. LOL.

I'll email him immediately. Thanks for the suggestion. Not only do I need that plastic grommet, but I need the throttle shaft spring from a Crossfire throttle body. The shaft spring that fits the TB with the TPS. Maybe he'll have both.

Thanks.

Andy, I have. I checked with all the major parts stores and even a few local smaller ones. I've contacted the few remaining places that still specialize in Crossfire stuff, and searched through forum classified on Corvette and Camaro sites.

I'm now resorting to asking individuals who may not have an old junk part listed, that might have it on a shelf. Most car guys have random stuff like that cluttering up their shops and garages, and I'm hoping someone has that odd grommet.

When it comes down to project completion time, if I don't have it, I will try to make one out of either plastic or rubber. The distributor will function without it fine, but it will let air and dust and debris in freely and it doesn't look very good without it.

Does anyone have a junk HEI large cap distributor from the computer controlled system? I need that plastic grommet type clip that traps the 4-wire pigtail where it leaves the distributor.

I can post a pic of where it would go.

Mine disintegrated and it's not something that can be bought, that I know of. Again, non vacuum, computer controlled large cap HEI like '82 / '84 Corvette.

Just need the clip, but if someone has a junk distributor laying around that's a good start. I just don't want to have to buy ANOTHER distributor just because that piece of plastic broke.

For the tensioner to maintain proper tension on the belt it needs to route under it in such a way that it maintains near 90 degree angles around the other pulleys. The belt will start slipping once you show it less contact surface.

If you're uninterested in repairing the A/C and smog accessories, you can buy both delete pulleys for them on Ebay for under $100 for the pair. Just search TPI Delete and you'll get plenty of both.

If you have NGs from 1933 to say around 1990 and have complete years and were to sell them as a whole - what would they be about worth?
Have one box of Popular Mechanic.....

My Grandfather had every single issue of NG, including all the special runs, a few hard back sets, and the full atlas set. Everything they ever sold, he had it in one collection.

I tried selling it. One guy was interested but my asking price was above the $50 he was willing to pay. I held out thinking it was worth more.

A year later...I ended up donating them to the local library because I couldn't find anyone who wanted them.

Buy the car. Sell the wheels. Pay for interior with wheel money. Have engine checked because the seller is a moron and I wouldn't trust it as far as Tommy T-Bone could throw it.
