Good Morning Gurus. Its been almost a month since my security gig in Afganistan. I can now drive by a car on the side of the road with out sweaty palms, I buckle my seat belt now since I have no longer the need to bail out of the drivers seat or make room for a tactical vest. Yea life is good! Weather in Northern Indiana has been great, warm mornings cool nights, scattered showers here and there.
Have honey do lists to complete and need to fix my air compressor pressure switch.

Good Morning Gurus. Great first weekend home. Had a chance to do much needed yard work, wash and detail the vette and drive it. For the past few months the vehicle of choice was a Chevy Suburban kinda of a modified urban assault truck.
Today is suppose to be 75 and Sunny. Have to head over to the VA Clinic in South Bend for a check up and answer the typical questions about stress and flashbacks.....so I tell them flashbacks about teaching Wood Shop in High School with 70 year old machinery and trying to motivate kids that have been given everything and had to work for none of it!!!!Trying to communicate with people that refuse to learn english and insist to converse in their native tongue Opps!! not good to get into before I talk to the VA ))) On the bright side I haven't been called mother f%&$@# in 22 months.
Have a great day guys.

Hi Tom. I miss teaching the kids but not the reality of the politics of the school corporation. Did a great retirement gig for the last few months )))) now I think I will retire and play with the vette and tools.

I notice this morning while driving, the digital dash read out for gas mileage and range read 0 and 12.8 mph. tried reset several times. It worked fine when I stored for the winter last fall. I checked the fuses. They are fine. Any thoughts?

Good Morning. Great Day! Sunny, high near 80 in Granger, Indiana. Trees are starting to bloom, and my yard needs intensive care.
So TeeBee is retirement in the picture for you soon?
Don't trade the snow blower for the weed wacker just yet.

Thanks guys. Second night home gawd its quiet.... no Blackhawks or Apaches landing and taking off... how cool is that. Started vette a little while ago. Fired up on the second try, its been silent since October. Sleeping without a weapon by my side will take some getting use to. Life is good.

Returned late last night to OHare Airport. I have been in Afganistan working for a PMC (private military contractor) for 5 months. Had to relearn how to sign in with the Gurus. Its good to be back on American Soil. No one realizes just how well we have it here. It will take a few days to adjust to normal life and reintroduce myself to my wife and daughter.
Will write later.

Good Morning. Cold this morning high near 30. Snow flurries earlier.
Yesterday's Veterans Day assembly went great! Auditorium holds 1400 and it was standing room only. Students were respectful and seemed to be focused on what I was saying. Interesting times.
Need to get motivated today! tons of things to do, my wife is thinking about putting up one of the Christmas Trees...hum thats the spirit!! put the stuff up so all the lights are burned out before Christmas Eve. One of our Direct TV music channels is already playing Christmas music.
As youcan tell I'm no where near the holiday spirit mode.
Well guys I need to close up the lake house this morning and plug holes in the pole barn where mice are getting in.
I have heard dryer softner sheets and steel wool works well in keeping the little critters at bay.
Have a great day!

Good Morning. Rainy today and colder, the mid 60 temps for Sunday are gone and it looks and feels like winter.
I have been invited back to the high school I retired from teaching and its also my alma mater class of 67,to talk about military service and the meaning of Veterans Day. I have only been gone not quite two years and I have butterflies in the stomach. This is an all school assembly. The principal is a former Marine and we buddy up together when we graduated from high school to enter the Marine Corp. Interesting!
Well gotta get going and figure out what to say! how to explain my transition from Marine to Naval Special Warfare Unit, and from sniper to teacher......
Tell ya how it goes later. Have a great day!

Good Morning. Cool morning 30 degrees in the sixties this weekend. Ton's of things to do this morning. Standby generator needs service before the snow flies, leaf raking, and store deck furniture. Recovered from election, changing face of America... so be it. What is commonsense for us seems to elude our elected officials.
Need to get motivated this morning.... or maybe a nap is order before I go out in this frost covered morning.

Good Morning Tommy. Mostly Sunny today high near 50. The smell of burning leaves is heavy in the air this morning, hum...so much for clean air around here! Taking the Vette out this morning for a nice road trip to Indianapolis. My wife wants to visit her alma mater Butler University and have dinner in Broad Ripple near by. Neat area. Rack up some miles and enjoy the fall weather.

Matt, not to rub it in but, I only have 5 months to pay on my house and then I'm going to have a mortgage burning party. Then if I don't get the taxes paid, or the insurance paid it's my fault.

Got to go check on the kids.

Hi Tom. Don't miss those parent teacher conference one bit. Why did you give my son an F? Because it was the lowest grade I could give him! You should have sucking instead of f...... Opps sorry guys! Flashback!

Good Morning Gurus. Been out of the country for the last four months. Flying into Ohara Sunday was a little rockie with hurricane Sandy reving up in the Atlantic. Hope this is my last time out of the country venture. Getting too old for this crap. Need to get some quality vette time in before the snow flies. Still recovering from jet lag! Have a great day guys.

Hum..I'm gone for 4 months and the neighborhood has gone to hell! my neighbor traded his Vette in on a 2012 Taurus twin turbo V6. Very impressive!.. Another neighbor gets rid of his Vette for a BMW 328i Xdrive something or other loaded with tech stuff. Damn I have returned to an anti vette enivornment. Even the purist one street over has unloaded his prized 67 327 convert for a C class MB. German conspiracy, bad well water? the vette experience has turned into a passing fancy. Need to take the Rosetta Stone course in German now. Holy Shit! What next? Socialism replacing Democracy? hum...... Holy shit I'm becoming a visionary, I;m the only Vette owner in the hood.

I turned 63 last April, I was a swimmer in High School, College and in the Navy. I swim 3 times a week 72 laps or one mile. Excellent cardio, When I left the Navy I weighed 248, currently 256 at 6'4". When I changed my fittness training and went to free weights low weight high reps I never gained strenght matter fact it interferred with my stroke. I changed to heavy weights lower reps and really built muscle mass, these destroyed my ability to swim distance. Conclusion stick with what I knew best, swimming and distance. When I had both knees replaced in 05 that stopped any heavy weights as far as squats and leg presses. Testosterone levels do fall of drastically in your 50's and for some that power to push weights really diminish in their 60's. Its a bitch getting old

Hi Gurus. Its been awhile. 012 has not been kind to childhood friends or old Navy buds. Running coast to coast to funerals. Wow! just yesterday my old high school football coach died. Thats 9 since January 14. One of my Navy Team members succumbed to his battle with cancer, believed to be from our exposure to agent orange.
Tommy I can relate to your feelings regarding pets. Our Collie is 14 and hanging in there for now! crippled hips and deaf, Rimadel keeps the pain down but as long as she seems to be enjoying life I'll keep pumping money in her.
Between funerals I've been revamping my wood shop in the garage and speaking before our school board about vocational education and what they are doing wrong! They Cancelled my Voc. Welding Class mid term to save money. Its real hard to fix stupid!

Finally had a chance to catch up with the Gurus. Busy past two weeks.
Today cloudy, 30 degrees snow has melted in the last couple of days. Strange winter. We go in cycles, heavy snows blowing and drifting then sunny and the highs near 50. Tough on skiers.
Working the shop today, tearing out old cabinets and making new more efficient storage cabinets and shelves.

No resolutions..soooo none to break. Several times a year I review "ME" usually when working on stuff. Most of the time the conclusion I come to is:
1) I should'nt be alive
2) I'm really a nice guy, except when provoked by assholes on this planet.
3) I'm the luckiest guy on the planet to married to the woman I've known since kindergarten.
4) To have a motivated daughter that has great values.
5) To have stuff, tools and the skill to use them.

Great response Marcus. I like the point about a SEAL Team take over of Mexico. I know 8 retired SEAL's that would do it for a wet burrito and beer.
When I study the candidates there is not much to pick from. Confidence in these wannbe leaders is really pathetic. Obama left many voters with a sense of new hope, a new beginning, an America to be proud of for new voters. Needless to say on many levels that didn't work out. I'm NOT a politician and will never aspire to become a part of that vocation. How do you appeal to the young minority voters that are skewed with liberal thoughts and ideas. To work hard, better yourself, get an education, have a value system will benefit mankind his fallen of the map and replaced with "I can play the system, let the middle class working stiff take care of my 9 kids from unknown fathers. BTW these are sperm donors nothing more nothing less. Damn I feel a rant coming on! Tommys right and had the balls to admit it, out of the two evils last election you try to choose the lesser.

I got a Kobalt driver also. Works great when a cordless driver is too big to access small fasteners.
I noticed this year while Christmas Shopping for tools that the line between Harbor Freight Pittsburgh brand and the almost mirrored product from Kobalt and Craftsman has blurred. Packaging, fit and finish are almost the same except for price. Harbor Freight is quite a bit less.
BTW a couple of weeks ago I returned a broken 3/8" drive 9/16" socket I used in an impact wrench. HB replaced the whole set not just the one socket. Try that with SnapOn or Craftsman.

Happy New Year Gurus. Been busy lately and never had a chance to wish the gurus a Merry Christmas.
I'm glad 2011 is over and optimistic about 2012.
Like Tommy so eloquently stated about our fasination as young kids what would happen to us as we grew older. Innocence mixed with imagination made our hopes for the future exciting. I always wanted to be a Police Officer or Firefighter or maybe a Fighter Pilot. Our imagination was our key and the future was the lock that we had the guts to
explore. Todays kids have no imagination or drive to test their limits except in a video world. Like TB I gave my students their best shot at being a success only to have them drop the ball and take the easy way out! usually drugs, gangs and violence.

Back in the day we were issued S&w model 39 9mm with a suppressor(hush puppies). 9mm did not have the stopping power of the .357 Mag and when the enemy was hit with a .45 they didn't get up. I would not be here if it wasn't for a reconditioned (by the Marine Corp) WWII Remington series .45 1911.
I like revolvers no brass left behind, S&W and Colt. I won't bet my life on Taurus or Rossi. I own several pistols in 40 and 45 cal. Sig and Glocks are my preference for carry. H&K and Beretta for target shooting and competition.

His family has been having family issues over the past several years. So, the party moves to our house. All well and good. The tradition has been a whole roast pig. I told my wife she should not do a pig because if she starts it will become expected year in and year out. If any of you know what it takes to roast a whole pig you would know why I wouldn't want to start it. Takes about 16 hours of slow cooking. I told her if she got a pig she was on her own. Well, she ordered a pig. Make that two pigs. Two pigs 40 to 50 lbs each. That's twice the fun. Throw in a house full of people and I'm in for a great fooking time. I feel like throwing a party for homeless later that same day as a public service. Guess I'll run down and put up a sign at the soup kitchen.

riggin friggin sassafrassin modecker

I can relate Tommy! When I got home last night from my welding class I was informed that WE were hosting a Christmas Party for her book club. Wow I have a lot in common with that fricking group. Imagine all former English teachers and Notre Dame Profs and me. Most if not all are liberal x hippies that love Jane fricking Fonda Opps rant is on. Damn

In Boston all veterans are treated with honor and respect. Probably because it's rich in history and serving was a time honored tradition. I know plenty of guys that got waivers for education, pscychological issues, physical issues or sexual preference. Some took a trip to Canada. I never berated anyone. My father served, his father served, and his father served. We have a history of military service that dates back to the Civil War. My son broke the chain, the result of a plate in his wrist. He even had it removed in an attempt to join the Air Force but was denied.
It's tough to serve today. Iraq and Afganistan are two wars that few understand. All I can say is to those that served Thank you for your service.

A few of my high school and college friends took off to Canada, some donned dresses or faked aliments to get out of serving in Vietnam. I never thought anything less of their choice but they never had the right to judge me for what I did. When I look back on those two tours it seems like such a waste of lives, young lives that had so much potiential so much life. Those of us that got through it still bare the emotional scars of war and taking human life. Now I read that 274 service men remains from Dover AFB were disgarded in a landfill. So much for honoring our dead.

When my daughter started dating in high school most if not all the guys she dated knew me as well as their parents. Never really had to say anything! I once told a young man that he had nice ears! In college (Purdue) we had to trust her to make all the right choices. She did! We were fortunate.

I do a yearly review of my insurance and update. Recently my insurance agent asked if I ever thought about a speciality car insurance companies like Haggerty for my Vette and 55 Chevy. Has any of the gurus investigated or use this type of insurance? My insurance agent maintains I could save a few hundred dollars a year with higher coverage.

Used one of those gizmos Sunday while putting up brand new lights. Worked great last year with some old sets. Not exactly sure how it works! usually too cold out side to play around with it.

Good Morning Gurus. Cloudy and cold with snow warnings up til tomorrow morning. Took advantage of Sundays mid 50's temps to get outdoor Christmas lighting up. My wife loves the Christmas holiday. She goes nuts! Everything has to be decorated.
Last week one of my Navy buds (my spotter) had a mild stroke. Went to see him and told him I didn't notice anything different! that got him going, his wife is a mess, he lost feeling on his left side but prognosis looks bright.
I told him he always drooled! he said f@ck you real clear the nurse was impressed.
Well guys my wife wants to go to Cracker Barrel for lunch, wow a hole months fat intake in one meal

Joel I have a range of compressors from pancake for on roof applications to twin tank construction. The shop compressor is an Ingersol Rand belt driven monster.
If your going to spray, use air ools specifically for automotive use, look for high cfm outout @ low pressure psi. This pressure and Cfm works idea for spraying and running air tools. Construction grade compressors use high pressure 85 to 135psi to operate nail guns and finish nailers. My DeWalt can power up to 7 nail guns and run all day, I wouldn't want to spray a car with it because the lowest setting is 70 psi.
Like Bill said some of these compressors are loud, with a low ear throbbing drone. My IR has a muffler that lowers the db range, my neighbor has a upright Craftsman 3 horse that will drive you out of the garage in a short period of time. Most if not all general duty compressors are made in China, personally I like the Husky brand at Home Depot another neighbor bought a 3 horse upright 220v Husky works great and is low in noise. Hope this helps.
