Stick shift Problem with 1990 zr-1

The problem with my 1990 zr1 stick shift is that the lever pull up (for reverse backup) sometimes does not work. I noticed that the 1.5mm screw backs out frequently and needs to be screwed back in for the lever to work. My mechanic told me that this screw is set in a rubber piece which may be worn out. What can I do??
I was thinking about super gluing the screw into the rubber piece, or getting a 2mm screw as a replacement instead of the 1.5mm screw. Any other suggestions, I would truly appreciate.
Thanks,
rg
