I'm looking for the best/cheapest place to get a remote/fob for my '95 Vert....It didn't come w/one and I really want to be able to utilize the auto lock/unlock/alarm features. I can't believe most of the sites I looked at (including ebay) want $139 and up....

Sounds good so far. Open the passenger door and you will see the fuse panel access door on the end of the dash. Maybe just a bad cig lighter fuse. About 90% of cruise problems are the switch on the brake pedal, but check vacuum to the servo first.

+1

The vacuum check valve is on the passenger side of the intake manifold, toward the back, and looks like this:
Resized Image

They only cost a few bucks at any auto parts store. If it's faulty, it can also cause the HVAC system to not switch properly between the defrost and dash vents.

Thanks so much everyone for the continued GREAT tips....Will look into that servo as soon as I actually have some uninterruped time

Ah, yes....I looked at the charts in the manual, but never actually looked inside the fuse box itself....I told you it was a newbie-like question!!!

I'm thinking that some of these minor issues w/my '95 are (hopefully) fuse related. I have the chart in the owner's manual which gives me the appropriate diagrams, but what I haven't seen is, and I know this is probably a most newbie-like question, but how do I know what strength/power/volt/amp, etc.. of fuse to use for each of the required applications? I'm hoping this will help w/some of those "little" problems.

Hey, Teebee....It's a '95 'Vert, all factory as far as I can tell, minus a K&N air filter setup.

Well, just a quick note to everyone to announce that after a drive of over 1,000 miles, I have made it home w/my C4...Without typing a book right now, below is a brief summary of my impressions of my car..........

PROS:
Acceleration/Throttle Response: EXCELLENT

Body/Paint: Awesome Shape (esp for it's age)

Interior: Also Awesome Shape (ice-cold air!)

Conv. Top: Great shape, although, of course, it likes to leak air, but no water got in during heavy rain.

CONS:
Cig. lighter doesn't work: Bummer on a long trip since I couldn't hook up my ipod, charge phone, etc...I've never seen this problem before, so I'm looking forward to finding out what's broken/how to fix it.

Cruise control doesn't work: Minor annoyance on long drive

Sound system: Someone who doesn't have a clue what they were doing has obviously messed w/this...Looking forward to doing it up right! Also, power-ant. doesn't work, which hinders radio-channel strength somewhat.

So, there's a brief overview as I start sorting these things out...Of course, comments/suggestions are always welcome! (I'll be posting some of these things separately, as I really get into them) Peace!

I put it this way: if someone wants it, they will take it.

VATS is very effective... and what is more effective is the brutal reality that no one steals C4 Corvette's anymore.

If I was to do anything, I would have a battery tender for those long storage periods, so that the factory alarm stays active.

Gotta agree with Bogus. I've spent a lot of time on various Corvette forums and mailing lists since '95, and I just don't hear of C4s being stolen in recent years. VATS is pretty effective, and the C4 just isn't a desirable car for thieves these days.

You're far more likely to have something stolen FROM the car, or to have the car vandalized, than to have the entire car disappear while parked.

All C4 Corvettes have side-terminal batteries. As Bogus noted, a high-quality battery tender (I like the Shumacher brand) is a good investment for a car that spends more than a couple of weeks sitting unused. I modified mine with a cigarette lighter plug for easy, no-hassle (and safer) connection/disconnection.

Live well,

SJW

Was it an easy mod to rig it up like you did using the cig. lighter? It's be great if you'd share how you did that! (or send me a PM if it's long/complicated)

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions...I think I'll just go w/a battery tender for storage purposes, and eventually I'll get some sort of "zone" alarm that will protect the interior, esp. when the top is down.

Just wondering if anyone out there relies on anything besides the OEM security system installed on their Vette....I was thinking about installing one of those simple battery terminal "locks" that cut electricity to the vehicle until the "key/knob" is re-inserted. This would mostly be for those times when I don't drive it for a week or so to prevent battery drain, but also could provide extra security when parked in some strange parking lot/driveway overnight...I'm just wondering if VATS is as good of a system as it's supposed to be for counteracting attempts to steal the vehicle. Oh, and are battery terminals for my '95 (which I will finally pick up in just over a week) top-post or side-terminal? Thanks for any imput/opinions!

Wish I had something more exciting to contribute, but I'm just chillin' out a home, (a rare treat for me)reading up on some possible upgrades for my '95, and just generally being a bum! Hope everyone is having/had a good Sunday

Disregard! I did find a digital/PDF version on ebay for $4.45...I figure that's good enough to get started, but I'd still like to get a physical copy one of these days.

Where would be the best/cheapest/etc place to buy a 95 Corvette owner's manual? I'm not sure if the one I bought has the manual included. Thanks

Great comment! Yeah, I kinda miss having some "Horizontal Travel", but the good thing about the auto is that in a town like Louisville where there are traffic lights every couple of blocks, I don't have to spend my cruising time constantly downshifting for all the red lights! (I speak from major experience on this)

Ya. I'm just busting your chops a little. Black looks great. It takes dedication to keep it looking that way. I have two black cars so I'm familiar with the dust settling on it before it's fully dry. You can go inside for half an hour, come out and say ....... What? Unless your going to keep it in a garage, dusted and covered. Are you?

Oh, yes...I'm lucky and will get to keep it garaged, clean and covered...You'll have to send me a message sometime and give me tips for keep black cars looking their best!

You also have to realize that subwoofers are a rather new addition to the car world. The factories were loathe to put them in because of the perception of hip-hop rappers and stuff.

My 1994 Honda Prelude VTEC had a sub in it... HA! A 5x7 with a small amp in a marginally sealed box. They had the audacity to call that a sub!

I am looking into this:

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=245

... as a sub solution. A shallow box would fit in the rear bin and serve as a storage medium for the amp, if done right. There is also the added volumn of the existing speaker boxes - think about this for a minute - a shallow box, that fits ABOVE the existing speaker enclosures, with a 13.5" driver! Whoa.

Whoa is right! That's definitely a solution to the space problem....Awesome!

For the *average* person the Bose system is fine. The problem with the Bose system is the speakers have individual amplifiers built in and the reference signal from the head unit does not match a standard aftermarket unit. When the amps start to go bad it can get very expensive to rebuild them. You can get an adapter to put an aftermarket HU in and use the Bose speakers, but as I stated once they go bad, it's pricey. Once it stops working or if guys want to improve the quality it usually involves a new head unit and four new speakers. Good idea to run new speaker wire, as well.

Matthew

Actually, the car I bought doesn't have the original factory-installed head unit..The dealership installed a brand-new Kenwood unit with ipod hookup, and I'm assuming since they did that, they would've/should've put in this adapter so it would work properly, but I don't know for sure yet...Sounds like I should plan on some new, high-quality speakers asap...Thanks for the info.

It's awsome that there is a board dedicated to just Audio...I'm still learning about the BOSE system installed in my soon-to-be picked-up '95 Vert...I hope that it sounds good enough (at least at first) to just enjoy it, but what I've seen so far tells me that the factory wiring isn't that good, and I was surprised to find out that such a good system doesn't even have a sub...Anyone like to provide their opinion on the factory-installed system? Does it at least have some sort of amp? Suggestions for simple/non-expensive improvements? Just looking for general info right now, and thanks for any imput.

Thanks, 95Vette....I have no doubt it'll meet and most likely succeed any expectations. Compared to the '79 I had at one time, I'm looking forward to having a Vette I can spend more time driving than trying to fix all the time.

Just a quick hello from a newbie member of this awesome sorce of info from all things 'Vette! I've been a member of some other Corvette boards before, but many of them seem to have gone way downhill and operate like some kind of posting dictatorship...Anyway, I'll be seeing everybody on the boards

Oh, and a quick "shout out" to Durango_Boy, who introed me to this group!
