Just another day in paradise....No, Really! Tommy, I dont know if I'll ever leave! The only thing thats not too great right now is the fishing. I've caught 2 blues in 3 days here and tossed them back. 10 inchers. I believe they have to be a foot long to keep, but, I'd have thrown them back anyhow. Yuk, I hate Blue Fish. Wheres the Pompano????
I'll try to catch up this week Tommy, All the family is still here with us so I cant cut out. Maybe my wife and daughter can drop me off and hit Key west while we hang out. Hope to get the chance my friend.
alan

...by the way gang, I highly recommend crashing Florida! Tommy Has the right idea. We should plan a Guru conference down here sometime.....go ahead, twist my arm a little harder..Ok I'm In!

Pretty simple goals really. I lost 60 lbs when I had my first stemcell transplant and large amounts of muscle mass. That was three years ago and my recovery has graced me with 20 pounds since that awful time. I'm 6'1" and run 207. My goal is just to gain some upperbody strength and get around my back issues. I had a compression fracture T3 level that was repaired with kyphoplasty however there is still evidence of compression in my lower back. I have a machine that allows anything from Tricept pulldowns to leg presses and free weights from my son's football days.
I was thinking something like this:

sitting curls (over and underhand)
tricept pulldowns
some bench pressing and butterflys for the chest

I'm pretty sedintary right now and completely out ofshape so starting light I'm sure is key. Running is out due to the back. I'll be happy to firm up my chest and arms.
As For the Testosterone, I was on Androgel for 3 months and my levels went from 210 to 223...virtually no change, so, the doc decided to go injectable and like I told you before, I can feel the difference. I'm only 9 weeks into this therapy and Bloodwork/Liver function tests are number 1 in this Doc's regimine. I'm due in about 2 weeks. He's shooting for 900 to 1000, so I know he will up the dose
....I just need to find a way to take advantage of it.

I Know its a Happy day and I hate being a pessimist some times. As I watched the swearing in of the aliens as new American citizens, I couldn't keep myself from thinking did they become tax paying citizens, or, just become eligible for Medicade....oh no, thats right, They've been getting it all along and not paying taxes for the past 7 years while their businesses flourished.....GRRRRRRRR

Hey Matthew,
Since I'm on a low dose of Testosterone,(200mg every 3 weeks) I wonder if I can use this to my advantage. I haven't seen any problems yet like estrogen imbalance (man boobs) or anything, but since my back was broken (thankyou myeloma) I cant do squats or anything like that. Any upperbody/arm suggestions?

I'm 90 minutes from NYC and the ONLY way to go is by train out of Trenton NJ. You cant drive in NYC anyway unless its in a beater....nearly every car has body damage. Cheaper to Cab it once you are there. I have to drive past it in September for a Guitar building class in Brattleboro VT....hope i can get around it!

Another Dey.....

Well Good news for me. Saw the Myeloma Dr. yesterday. Counts still holding....at least the ones they could get immediately from the bloodwork. The Pee test tells the real tale though. It shows the proteins associated with this thing. So cautiously optimistic. I gained 8 lbs in 6 weeks. Thats a good thing for me. 207 to 210 is a good place for me.now just have to stay here! The Testosterone injections seem to be working and they think the 8 lbs is actually muscle mass and though I'm no Schwartzeneger, I feel a little stronger. I notice it mostly when I ride my motorcycle. Holding the bike up at lights etc is much easier and leaning to push into a nice"S" curve actually feels comfortable again. Thats the small rush in life I live for....and of course driving the vette!

Have a good hot Dey Guys!

Went to that grad party last evening in the heat...and as I predicted, it was too hot to drink(for me at least). I had one beer and it just tasted lousey. My oldest son had quite a few. Trying to PROVE he's 21. I had to drive his lowered Miata home. It scrapes every f'n time you turn the slightest bit off center. Its stable as hell, but just not my cup of tea.
Today I rewired my cousin's boat trailer. Had crimp connecters everywhere, no wonder nothin worked! Soldered everything up. Towed that back to his place and thats it for me today! More 95* degree weather on tap here for the week. I'll be in South Fla on Thurs for 2 weeks. Hot There too eh Tommy? At least there'll be an ocean breeze. Hope we can meet up Good Sir!

One HOT Guru!

Dodged a bullet gang. The C5 just needed a computer reflash. A Factory update. All is well, no more 1288 code.

This afternoon off to a graduation party for my son and his Cousins. Its gonna be a hot one....its quarter to 5 and its still 101* in the shade. It will be hard to drink beer in this weather....

Bryner's expert, Steve Spencer, looked it over for me. He said it was missing a computer update that spreads the limits of the date the system uses to apply the Active Handling. The Reflash of the computer was all that was needed. All of the sensors checked out. With the Club Discount, it ended up being around $150. And now all is well.

Hey Tommy,
I'll be in West Palm on the beach for 2 weeks starting July 5th. I love that my wife trades some of our Pocono Time share. I'll be surf fishing.....Whats biting and whats good bait? Should I pick up some spoons for Blues?I've been using frozen shrimp and pulling out a few and I mean a few! Catfish, Ladyfish and the rare small grouper and tossing them all back. Any Pompano around? I never caught one but I'm told they're good eating. I also read I actually need a license to surf cast? Never did before. I guess I can get one at a Walmart sporting goods dept huh?

In regard to your Kid post, I came from nothing. One kid had THE Baseball, another had the bat, another had the football.....we all needed each other and it was a happier time. We grew up and gave our kids all we could. Maybe that was wrong, but, My oldest,21, is working in a Pool/ski shoppe and going to school part time. My second starts Penn State in the Fall, and my youngest is still in middle school. Yea, they are spoiled compared to what I had, but now that the boys are adults, I tell them "You can have anything in life you want.....get it yourself!".

Thanks for sticking this in Tech Matthew. You are correct...fat fingers....Original codes were 1287 and 1288.
The C1288H code does come back. I looked over the tech link that involved changing the sensor at the base of the steering column. I'm unable to play contortionist to get under the dash. I do belong to the Corvette club of Delaware Valley and we have a sponsoring dealer, Bryner Chevy, that gives A 10% break to club members. I may just end up taking it to them....I'm waiting for a call back from them as I type. Keep posting any info you locate though. It may help someone else!

Thanks Guys!
Alan

Good morning from (For me anyway) Philadelphia.....Where its always Sunny in Philadelphia...well into the 90's and the humidity is merely 64% as compared to what fely like 80% yesterday....you get sweat soaked just sitting still!

The reason its morning for me @ 1 in the afternoon is I was on Racoon watch....again. The rat bastard tore up the whole neighborhood's trash ...again. So I set the live trap and baited with ground beef....again. This time, I got him! About 30 pounds worth! I don't know how he squeezed into the trap! The rest aint pretty....involves guns, bloodshed, funerals, mass graves...not really of course. Simply 1 finally dead suburban rat. You're welcome neigbhors. No need to Thank me.....but A cold beer and a handshake might be nice. Lets see if he was an only child or if his littermates will take over his turf. For now, Finally, Joy in Muddville!

On the Corvette side of things. The Message Service Active Handling Soon keeps coming up. I checked the codes and they were C1277H and C1288H. I cleared them and only the C1288H code returns after a short period (maybe a mile) of driving.
This message disappears if I shutdown and restart the car. I cleared the code again and tried a suggestion from THAT forum. Went to an empty parking lot and locked the steering wheel in both directions several dozen times. This seems to keep the code away for at least 10 miles of driving. If I cleaned and worked a sensor connection somewhere between the steering wheel and the wheels, Anybody know which one or ones and is there a possibility that they could be cleaned properly TO RID THE PROBLEM!

Thanks,
Alan

Hello Gurus!
A very happy Friday to all. Not Quite friday, but late enough here in South east Pa. I'm sitting on the porch with my pellet gun loaded waiting to hear my trash can rumble around. I'm tired of this god damn racoon leaving a royal mess for me every morning. Tonight.....well, we'll see...

Other than that I just gotback from Denim Springs Louisiana visiting an uncle I have'nt seen in years. He has some Cajun neigbhors that took me fishing in the Bayou. What a Blast! Put his 18 footer in the water and it took 1/2 hour to get to his favorite spot. DEEEP in the bayou. not even cell service. Every time we put the line in the water, we got one! They call them Gagoula.....Big Ass Bluegills where I'm from, 1 to 2 pounders. I got 24 in just 3 hours. I never in my life caught that many.....and they were just my keepers! I thanked him up one side and down the other. My Aunt fried them up and they were the best Ive ever eaten. If you ever get the chance to fish in southern louisiana.....GO! They were the nicest people I ever met. Who do ya know that just meets you and takes you to their best fishing spot? noone I know up here in Pa. Man What a day. Met his Uncle and some family friends at their fishing camp. One was a cancer survivor like me. Instant friends. Have a beer he said, and passed one around with a big grin. So we sat there line in water pulling out bass off the front porch. Tossed them all back....they were only 12 inchers. Gots ta be foteen he said. Dont ever let anyone ever tell you swamp people are assholes. They were just lovin life and kickin back. Made my YEAR!
Enjoy Gurus! Have a great weekend, alan

Hey Tommy, thought you were feeding the fish! What happened?

And no garage work for me! They just coated the driveway so the Vette stays parked for a few days. Sure could use a good sweeping though. I still have leaves blowing around in there. Thats what I get for having Maple trees. Too pretty in the fall to bitch about though. Another day.
Good luck on the garage sale Matthew....try not to give away a spare supercharger or something like that in your sleepless stupor. Poor kiddo. Its tough when they cant tell you what hurts. Sometimes laying the affected ear on a warm Mommy or Daddy helps. I'm not a big fan of antibiotics for everything. I watched kids go from simple amoxicillin to some much bigger guns fairly quickly. Ear infections usually resolve themselves in 2 to 3 days if theres no fever. Hope he feels better soon. Get some sleep my friend! You're a good Daddy!

Road trip with your best Buddy? Feeding the fish!!?? You guys have got it made! I'll be putting up chicken wire around the tomato/pepper garden. This will be a labor of love though. There will be plenty of fresh red fruits just in time for the late July picnics and some hot pepper challenges. Just some medium hots though, my days of growing fire are over. Those would be strictly ornamental...Maybe I'll grow some Ghost peppers just for show on the patio. Dad's would be 82nd was yesterday. It'll be a year he's gone in September. He'd have loved the garden. Oh well, maybe I'll visit the military cemetary later today. Looks like a good day Guys. 70's and a light breexe. The bike will definately make a run.
Later,
Catch the Limit Tommy!

Hi Marcus...I wasnt paying attention, did Ultraboy get the c5 for prom? And you dont want to go there about this education thing....My #2 Kid is going to Penn State in the Fall. Penn State rarely givesany scholarships....we got Zilch. And Erik carries a 3.9 with a weighted average of somewhere near 4.5. I thought that meant something. He's crushed by the thought of paying back school loans.I'm disabled. Know how much we got in student grants? Zilch. And this is with 2 kids in college.
My FASFA expected contribution for him is $18K. Luckily we saved from the time he was born and have enough for about a year's credits. That'll get spread out over the four years. The rest? Student loans. I truely hate to say it, but I wish I wasn't lucky enough to work hard enough to become Middle Class before I got sick. Either you're rich and pay for college, or your poor and are given college. If you're in the middle........they make you poor paying for it. I was the first college grad in my family. I thought that counted for something too. A leg up to be able to afford college for my kids. Good luck with that theory huh? Well, I did get them this far in life and I managed to get a Vette, so I need to stop bitchin I guess. I did a fair amount of time starin' at it today. You're right. Its a work of art. In motion standing still. I am lucky.
Ciao guys,
Alan

Morning Guru's! Matt I like that lilac bush you guys got.........Well it fianlly happened. I kinda knew it was coming but was hoping not....Ultraboy asked if he could take the C5 to Prom.........ahh geez...the anguish the worry......the chances of it coming back the way it left are low I think. First I will say that Uboy is a responsible kid and drinking is not an issue with him. He gets good grades and minds his parents so its tough for me to say no.

I no doubt will let him take it just because if my Dad had had a Vette when I was in school it would have been more then huge to take it to prom........what do you guys think?

I could take a lawn chair and sit by the car like at a car show when its in the parking lot......lol.....

Hot today, around 90 but then heading for cool and wet I hear. Great not only am I lending my beautiful C5 to a teenager but it will be raining when I do it.......

Gotta go Guru people......Have a nice day!.....

I'm in the same boat. I have the same type of kid and hes off to Penn State in August...Its not Him I'm worried about. Yeah, he'd probably do a quick burnout to impress his girlfriend. Nothing you or I wouldnt do, but there seems to be wayyyytoo much alcohol at proms anymore. It might not be your kid you need to worry about....its everyone else...Try to get him into a group of kids renting a Limo. Either way. good luck with your decision.

I guess I'd have to agree with the AD in that other story. It truly is not a school issue. The "coach" was acting on his own, going to a non-sanctioned event. I wonder how the heck he got the car rented, don't they check the license of the renter? In Kansas, those students who participate in non-sanctioned events might be disqualified from all sanctioned events in that sport, maybe things are different in Florida.

Really Tom? A Non-sanctioned event could be trials for the olympics. That could DQ a kid from high school sports? One way or another, the AD is still in it up to his neck. Guilt by association alla Penn State, of course for something different, but, its still his staff. Rogue or not. So, why not lend a hand in an emergency situation to at least show concern? The school Board will be asking for his keys soon anyhow, so i guess its a moot point. Sorry, I just put myself in the parent's shoes.

Hmmm, seems I have a free day on my hands. They just rescheduled the Re'tank for Tuesday. The tank wasnt delivered to the contractor yet.

A good thing I guess. I ran into the Scotts Lawn Guy that does all of the surrounding yards. For about as much as it costs me a year plus the aggravation of application, they'll do it for me. Mine is the lousiest lawn on the cul-de-sac so its time to surrender and just let the pros do it.
I only have a half an acre thats actually mine. The rest outback belongs to the water company who owns the lakes and I get the lakeview for the price of chasing the occasional teenage beer party, which is rare, the neibhors usually beat me to it. I wouldnt even care, but they leave the beer bottles everywhere and potato chip bags blowing all over the place. I was young once too. They could have their fun if they'd just clean up. At least it keeps them from drinking/smoking and driving.

The School wont help students? I'm sure the kids told their parents that the meet was for school, so how would the parents know? Legally the School probably has 1 leg to stand on because it wasnt sanctioned, but morally? And they find out their staff member has warrants? They will be facing a lot more trouble than just refusing to lend a hand finding the kids a 4 hour ride. I think that I probably would have rented a van and picked them up myself if I were the school's Athletic director. Proves to me that he's in it for a paycheck......not his student's overall safety.
My 2 cents

My daughter watches a Disney sitcom. Called Good luck, Charlie.........Think we need to change that Juuuust a little: "GOOD LUCK, TOMMY" hahaha..it never end does it Tommy?

Good day gang. Off to Moms for the Oil heater tank transplant.
Later,
Alan

I'm bleaching the oak to match the flooring right now.

That was the first real "sports mania" I can remember. The Flyers won because Shultz punched everyone so hard they forgot how to play hockey! I was 15 and in 10th grade. They closed the school the the day of the parade because next to no one showed up for class. The train station in Bristol was so crowded it looked like the New York Subway at rush hour. Several trains passed through the station because they were too full to take on anymore people. I dont even remember paying for a train ticket that day! We were ALL down in the city whooping it up. LOL!

Bill, forgive my absolute stupidity (I mean real stupid), but, for all the years I've watched these guys drive, I've never understood the paddle shift. No clutch right? Hang on and steer. Why not just program the damn thing for throttle position and make it an auto? Everything else is computer controlled/monitored correct?

Anyone ever patched a porcelain finish? My daughter dropped a cast iron skillet on the edge of the stove and Bingo...chip (no pun intended)

I bought one of those epoxy based kits, sanded and cleaned up the spot. Over the course of about 2 hours, I built it up just like doing a touch up on the car and have a nice bubble above the finish level. I figure let it harden up for 24 hours and go after it with 1200 wet/dry ? Any suggestions?

Outside of that I feel pretty good.

The past few days I took a look around at what we have ammassed through the years. I remember as a kid growing up our family's financial distress. I dreamed of having nice cars and envied the guys who's dad had bought them a new GTO, Road Runner, Barracuda, Challenger, Camaro, Mustang or a host of other vehicles. As an enlisted man in the USAF I dreamed of having a good job that payed well and had good benefits. I dreamed of owning a home. I dreamed of having a bigger and nicer home. As I looked around the other day I realized all my dreams had come true. I am the guy I dreamed of being as a kid. The best thing of coming from the have-nots is the feeling of appreciation and satisfaction that comes from goal achievement. Keep plugging away and your dreams will come true. It just might take you a lifetime.

Sorry about the sinus issues...the pollen has been hell this year.
And as for the rest of your post, with the exception of your Service to this Great Country( I salute you Good Sir , I know enlisted men are not Sir, but you know what I mean. Thanks) I think we're living parallel lives. If we could just get the kids to see that hard work pays dividends, we'd all be better off.

Segway.... Today I washed, dried, clayed, washed, dried, Zaino 5'ved, and finally Show Polished the Vette today. Damn! that was a lot of work, But, It sure looks Great! And I'm beat. Hope everyone had a great (que Twilight Zone theme) Friday the Thirteenth! Later, Alan

Believe it or not, there is some type of algae or microbacteria that eat oil. And over the course of time it helps form that sludge that settles in the bottom of the tank. So, putting that oil in the new tank would just be innoculating the new equipment with a healthy dose. If I had an old mercedes, Id just burn it myself 'cause that tank would already be f'd up. It will take years for a new batch to brew up a new colony using freshly distilled products. I figure if Mom lives there 10 or 15 more years, the tank will stay cleaner that way and in the end, the bank will probably get the estate anyway and it wont be my problem. I get to keep a cleaner concience (sp) turning it over to a new owner in the end. thats about it.

The Viagra Guy to start the Chat today Tommy? That has nothin' to do with Thirsday! LOL

Oh, and one word to say about your last post on lice yesterday....PRICK!!!! Now I itch!

Moms oil tank is shot. the sucker made it 90 years I would guess, but that oil smell I nosed up yesterday was a couple of pinholes. It will cost about $1600 to R/R and remove some of the oil soaked dirt. She'll lose half a tank of heating oil too. I grew up in that house. It has a dirt basement. Its a twin that was built in the mid-1800s. Originally it had a fireplace in every room. They were bricked over when the house was "modernized" to a coal furnace and indoor plumbing was added. Eventually, the coal furnace was converted into an oil burner in the 20s ? I guess. When the furnace was originally put in in the first place, there was never heat to the second floor, I think they expected to rely on the heat rising theory....my bedroom was always cold! The changes that old place has seen! Anyway, its about to see another major mess like its survived before. AAARRRGGG. But, Mom cant live like that.

BTW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARCUS!!

Good luck today guys.
Alan

I was thinking "Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH My", Then you guys threw in the bugs and rats.....BARF!

I needed to get caught up today. Which isn't all that much for me. Had to go down to Mom's to meet up with a handy man thats going to put in a couple of windows for her. The roof has leaked since I was a kid and they had roofs put on twice! Someone finally said to replace and cap a couple of the windows on this aging lean two. And when I got there today, I smelled oil. I thought I did before, but the heater was just replaced and I thought it might be just running rich. I went into the cellar and found the oil tank is leaking. I meet up with the oil man tomorrow. My Dad died last september and he left instructions that my (worthless) brother and I should sell the house for Mom and get her into a Senior Hi-rise in the area. She is not interested in moving at all, so I have to put bandaids on the place until she moves or passes into the great beyond. The problem is that she has her church and lifelong friends close by and she can grab a bus to the local shopping areas for free right outside the front door when I cant take her. God give me strenth. Or at leastlet me practice my guitar and zone out for a while...Later Gurus.
