The orange 480 Honda is nuts, it only has a 4 speed cause it only needs a 4 speed.

Some fool at Honda desighed it with the kick starter on the left side though.

Had a 78 Yam for flat track too.

The Vett is my Toy I dont drive it much anymore I drove it for a while as a DD just to small I take my Kid to school with all her stuff and most of the time we have to stop somewhere on the way home It was tough sometimes putting every thing in the car.

We drive the Hybrid Camry most of the time now aday with gas prices 40 MPG sure is nice.

The funny thing never got a speeding ticket in the Red Vett but got one in the silver 4 door Hybrid LOL thats funny.

My cousin from England used to race motor cross back in the day. Like you, he had to stop because his knees/back/hips all finally gave out. You may have heard of him, his name is Kurt Nicoll. He was KTM North American racing director or something like that for a few years. These days, he's working for the company that makes Nitro Circus.

Oddly enough, I have never met the man... he lives 90 miles away, and is never home!

I have other hobbies I enjoyed much more than the Vett, I had to give up and I will do okay with out the Vett should be no problem at all.

I grew up on a Dirt bikes LOVE the sport wacth the race everytime I get a change to I wish I could still ride but the body said no more I am 50 years old and I hung up my boots 4 years ago this is the only thing have gave up and wish I still could do.

I still look at buying anouther bike until I bend down and my back hurts when I knell down and have a hard time standing back up this reminds me I just cant do it any more.

I sure miss Hand built 2009 Aluminum framed CR 500 I built my self all custom made and my 2006 KTM 560 I sure miss my bikes.

Question I know the pushrods are a little bit on the long side when rolling the motor over and checking for patter wear on the valve stem tip it not completely center it on more the exhaust side more than center I using the stock length push rods 7.195

Do you think this could be the problem making the noise?

Swapped the gear out fired the car up the noise still there.

I dont want to pull the motor again.

I just dont get it.

After the car is good and warm no noise.

I went to McDee's drive though on the way to work this morning you could hear the knocking noise very well as it echoed off the wall next to me.

I just ordered a OEM GM melonized distributor gear.

When I built the motor others said the composite gear was the way to go now I reading GM saying for a LT4-Hotcam go with the melonized gear set.

I going to give this a try and see how this gear holds up compaired to the high dollar composite gear.

The OEM is half he price of the composite gear set.

With any luck this where the noise is comming from.

I pulled the cap NO hitting at all the rotor seen better days I change that

I also pulled the distributor out and checked the end play it's at .017.

The Composite distributor gear is showing wear about half the teeth are worn though already with 7000 miles on it sounds funny to me also the lower 3/4 of the gear is worn more towarded the top of the gear.

I using the stock 1986 distributor with a composite gear is this my issues.

The noise is back.

I am going to delete the 9th injector and see if this helps like I said before it only makes the noise when it is cold start up.

When I got home from work today my new pulse dampener was at the door

It took about 30 minutes to install it fired the car back up Idove it to work today it seems much better.

I find out more after the car sits and I can start it cold thats when it made the noise the worse.

But so far so good.

I run a set of Yokohama (520YK) 245 55 16
They didnt have a set of 255 16 when I got them 2 years ago 600000 mile tire or they could be If I keep my foot out of it LOL.

They stop making them so when I need tires next time I going to up grade to 18 inch rims I thinking going with 295 35 18 on all 4's.

The one big draw back about going with the 18 inch rims makes the stock brakes look small so it will be time for the BIG brake upgrade at the same time .

I think either you have a bad Valve body or bad clucth packs.

I went though 3 diffrent rebuilds each time it go worst I got so mad I just purchased a complete new Trans and Converter I feel your pain and headachs.

Either find a Geat rebuild shop or buy a good one from a good know shop like I did.
The shop That rebuilt my trans was one of the cheepest ones I could find and now I know why they were cheep dont go Cheep you end up paying more in the long run trust me on this one.

The 1st time it would not shift out first gear 2nd time very lazy wound not rev out, 3rd time I found out they did not put the correct stall converter it the car and stuill did not shift right.
4th time I just bit the bullet a purchased a Good complete trans now I been very happy with it no issues at all.

But I gotten good at pulling and reinstalling the trans I dont want to do it anymore LOL.

Here we Go it is made in the USA and for a great deal it not a dewalt but it works for me.

You will have to trim the Plastic Fan Shroud and the rubber feet not a big deal.

I heard the 2 core works but Hey Might as will get the 3 core.

http://www.championradiators.com/page/405141574

But I planning to get a Dewalt Fan.

My car not stock so you can not compair temps. It a 383 bwith 10.5 to 1 co,pression thats makes it run hotter than the stock 350.

As of now with the temps out side Normal Coolent temps 185 -190 the oil 200-215/220.

Summer time it gets very hot out here 104 is the norm Collent temps 205-215 Oil 215-235 but it HOt out here with the heat comming off the road makes run hot I going to put a better Main fan in the car this comming summer time to help keep the temps down lowwer.

This is a sandwich type it go's in between the oil filter and block You can keep the STock Cooler heater plate BUT you need to either run a remount type filter or a Short Oil filter.

I removed the Stock oil cooler and heater pluged the water jackets on the bock for the cooler lines so I can use a the stock size oil filter.

I ran the Rubber hose f FWD next to the oil pan to the front of the car you can either tie the New cooler to the front of the radtiator or I put mine in front of the front fan tie wraped it to stuff I think it holds about 1 or 2 Qt of oil and when you do a oilchange jack the car up pull the plug it takes a while for the oil to drain all the way out.

Here a couple pictures how I ran the hoses
This with the stock oil cooler sanwitch plate and the short oil filter.

I was chasing a knocking sound in my Vett for a while now it’s been tracked down to the Fuel Pump Regulator.

It holds 43 PSI of pressure at Idle But as soon as you turn the engine off it drops to Zero.

It has almost NEW FIC Bosch III 24# injectors and same for the Fuel pump a Walberg 190.

When doing some more reading some are saying the Fuel pump regulator pulse dampener is bad.

That’s fine I ordered one where is it on the car.

I pull the fuel regalator apart I made it adjusable long time ago I removed the adjustment screw and washer that I think was making the noise welded up the bolt hole for the adjuster put it back together much bettter theres some noise still but much better than before.

Yoo can make you're stock one into a adjustable one But when I tryed it to turn up the pressure with the Stock GMP type pump I started blowing fuses so I turned the pressure back to stock.

I dropped the pan last month and took a look the pan was clean No shavings.

Oil Pressure is great 20 to 30 at idel 50 at cruise speeds.

Like Isaid the motor has 7000 Miles on it now it has had this tapping noise during cold start up from day one.

Drain your oil and open your filter up.

I know it's a long shot (a bad shot at that ~sorry~).....
but I had the same noise (sortta lifter/sortta tin like tapping) on my LT1 last year. Was coming from the rear of my intake. Stethicoped everything (intake/VC/heads/block/pan) and the loudest was up top in my intake. I thought it must be a rocker so adjusted those. Noise persisted after, so then I thought perhaps the oil pump drive gear (like your dist. drive gear). Never opened it up though.

Anyways, few days later oil pressure dropped a little (normally 45.....dropped to 35 or so).....The tapping noise was getting a little bit louder, but still only from the intake area. So I pulled the intake but everything 'looked' fine. Draining the oil found some filings and knew I was in trouble. Indeed I spun two rod bearings.

I've worked on many engines with a bottom end going out.....but this is the very first time it's sounded like that.....like your does.
