I am running AFR heads with a MiniRam and TPIS headers, and their cam on my 89. Everything bolted right up. Some people have had problems with TPIS, but I bought everything through them and they were very helpful to me.

Good luck

On my 89 I got tired of driving in So. Cal traffic watching my gauge. I replaced the stupid little beannie propeller in front of the condenser with a 14" black max pusher fan and wired it to a switch. That over rides the fans when I am in traffic and I leave them on until I am clear and moving.
Bring the temp down to 190 while sitting.

Early to mid sixties used to cruse and street race in Pomona (So Calif). Held my own usually with a 66 SS396 Chevelle. Got smoked real bad by a girl in a pink 65-66 mustang. Rumor was a girl in a pink mustang named Debbie Richie, niece of Les Richie (drag racing fame some old guys might remember), went to Cal Poly college in Pomona. Story was she used to like to do that with her highly modded, totally stock looking Mustang. Could never confirm anything, however, it didn't hurt so bad believing it.
Went to Orange county once to a couple drive-ins but was sent home early. Moral to that story is "Don't come to Orange county with only 400 hp.!"
My Chevelle and My Vette are the only Chevy's I ever owned.
All the rest have been Fords.
Loved the sixties. Never got caught up in the bullshit.

Got it. The first one took me 4 1/2 hrs. Second one took me 40 minutes. Piece of cake once you understand it. Works like new.
Tommy, the screwdriver did the trick once I decided screw it. The finger just makes me feel better.
Thanks

Pulled the whole light out of my 89 to do it on the bench. Got everything on bench. Gear cover off. Gear is loose but can't get it to come out. Put small screwdriver through the shaft for leverage like instructions say still no go. I even gave it the finger, and still no go.
Like something is holding it. Any ideas?
Have new gears and bushings waiting.

Just recently replaced mine in my 89. Bought it from Corvette Recycler. new $199.99. 89-96.
They say they have them in stock. Sent mine right out.
I would also get a fuel pump and be done with it. I wish I would have thought of it and had one there when I did the job. Used the car the next day so had to put it together.
Mine acted the same way. Would not come off full. I deal with Ecklers a lot and no problems. Good luck!

Took my top to a auto upholsterer and left it. he replaced the old with a new black headliner that looks better than the original one ever did.
Cost was $100.00. No muss, no fuss!

My heavily modded 89 is running great except at traffic lights, and cruising at lower rpms. Cruising, it pops some, and at lights it smells bad often if sitting long.
I have had it to two (2) tuners. The last one I trailered it into L.A. and he had it a week. He had a lot of vettes in there. He said that is the nature of the beast when you mix cams and computers.
It dyno'd at I believe 330 rear wheel and it will probably take a Z06 or equiv. to stay with it.
All in all I would drive it anywhere. Fun car!

Received my new sending unit from corvetterecycling.com and installed it Thursday. Was not a bad job, took about an hour. The gauge now works, or it came off of full to about 1/2 tank which is about right. The car started and ran so I did somethig right. The weather has been bad so have not driven the car yet.
Thanks to all for the input.

Anyone have any experience purchasing a new dash pad from Mid America or Ecklers? I read one post that the person ordered a dash pad from Mid America and once instaled, it looked like #%^& from the front. I was considering a new pad for my 89, but don't want to lay out $500.00 for something that won't look good.
They also advertise an overlay. Any input?

Thanks!

I am retired 31 yr. Law enforcement. My opinion is the CCW is overated. Havent carried in years. I usually have a 45 in the car that we are in. More people are carrying weapons in their cars today than you know, especially when they have their families and are traveling.
I have always encouraged my friends to have something in their cars. Most people who abide by the laws have never had their cars searched and So Calif is turning into an arm pit.
Just my thought.

It looks like a bulb went out in the middle of my dash in my 89. I can still read everything, but there is a dark spot. I have read that there are four (4) bulbs in the cluster. I have disassembled portions my car seveal times but am a little gun shy about electrical. Is this something I should send out (cluster) or change myself?

Thanks

Not to long ago, I replaced a t/o bearing and clutch in my 89. The t/o bearing and clutch assembly only had 5k on the set. The housing of the bearing seperated and came apart.
The t/o bearings that come with clutch assembly's are junk.
I ordered a new clutch set and also ordered a Delco t/o bearing (pricey). Comparing the one that came with the set, with the Delco, The Delco was visibly beefier than the Chinese t/o bearing.
Just something to keep in mind!

What are you trying to accomplish?

I found a broken check valve under my 89 by the front left wheel. It was identified on here as the check mvalve for the climate control door. I am trying to find where that goes, and found there is no vacuum comming up the left side where the T is. The lines off the T go to the cruise control, and one goes to the small tube into the wire loom that goes to the climate control. No diagram on radiator shroud. My haynes has nothing.
Thanks

Thank, that explains the line through the firewall. The ball only has one vac line going to it. I assumed that was to retain vacuum for a short time.

Is the fuel cannister the main source for the vacuum system?
I have some vacuum from the throttle body going down to the cannister but none leaving.
Also, what is the vacuum line from the cruise control into the firewall connected to, and witch line is he source of vacuum to the cc.
I took the panel under driver side but can not folloe the line.

Any help?

Thanks

Recently had my t/o bearing come apart on my 89 with only 5k on clutch kit and new dm flywheel. Ordered a delco t/o bearing through a friends shop and it still cost me $125.00.
The delco when compared to the Chinese one is visibly heavier materals. That is a lot of work to put cheap parts back in!
On the other hand because of the t/o bearing, I pulled the motor and modded the hell out of it. Wife still is not understandin how that little part can cause all that.

I have been suspecting a vacuum leak for some time but could not find one. I took my car, an 89 heavily modded, down off the ramps and then found this on the floor under the car. It must have dislodged as the car was tweeking getting it down. The location was left side rear of engine. I have a pencil pointing at a broken nipple. Any help as to what this is and original location would be a great help.

Thanks

Have new MSD wires and dist is new. Have had mechanics say yes and no. Hate to replace things to see if it solves anything! That gets expensive!!!

I am back to chasing a miss on my 89. Going after the ground wires now. Everything is new except wiring.
But should the dist knock the socks off of ya when adjusting the timing? Don't remember the old one doing that. I realize they are high energy!

No MAP sensor on the 89. 84 and 90-95 used MAP. 85-89 used MAF.

What on my 89 controls the running conditions at different elevations. My car is modded with Mini, heads, cam and headers etc.
My tuner is in the Los Angeles area and set the air/fuel ratio right on close to sea lavel. The car smokes (hauls ass) down there. I live at 3600 feet and the car runs good up here, but when it idles, it loads up and idles rough. Just changed the IAC, and the old one was covered with carbon. Looked like the inside of a chimmney.
no codes!

Any thoughts?
Thanks

The Pioneer in Laughlin still pays out silver dollars and Half dollars in their slots. Kinda neat.

Two (2) yrs ago, The Packers. Last yr, the Jets. This year, the Vikings!
Guess my allegiance is with Favre. Wife is a die hard Packer being from Wisconsis. She hates seeing a Viking jersey in the house.

Fluff

To answer your question about the statement " If you remember the sixties, you were not there!", that was Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane. Interesting lady. Look her up on the web.
I got married the first time in 65. The late fifties and early sixties were great, then turned to shit at about 64 on.
