Folks,

I just solved yet another annoying problem (driver-side low-beam non-functional) by finally checking the applicable ground connector and (of course) it fixed the problem.

I think I want to go and refresh all my engine compartment ground connectors. Some stupid questions:

1) What should I use to clean them?

2) Is the anything I could apply to the that would make them less likely to fail?

3) Should I disconnect the battery when I'm doing this?

I'd think you'd want to disconnect the battery. Maybe some electric contact cleaner and a wire brush to clean them, and some Noalox when you reinstall.

*edit* vinegar will work in a pinch, too

1) Best- wire brush on a Dremel, wire brush, 220 sand paper to shiny metal.
Also, sand or wire brush the terminal on the wire, doesn't take much, just get it shiny.
2) Then coat with oxygen inhibitor, the stuff Brad mentioned or what I've been using for 30 years - Vasoline. put some on the frame then, attach the terminal then coat it.
3) Nope, not necessary at all.

Brad,

Which Noalox application do you use? I took a look at their site here:
