Well, after waiting for months and months for the paperwork to come through, my buddy dropped off the car today. This car will be my dad's once it's all finished.

1979 L82 automatic.

Currently doesn't run, but part of that is due to no keys. Been sitting in a yard for 3 years. Gonna change the ignition and fluids and try to get it fired up. Here's a few pics to start. I'll document some of the repairs I'm doing as I go along.

Pictures make the paint look decent, it's pretty rough in some spots. It's definitely a 10 footer. But it will be fun.

I kinda like those spoilers over the later moulded in ones.

BTW I built a model of a '78 pacecar back when I was 13yo

I think that's what got me hook.

Yessir, they still had carbataters back then. The CrossFire injection came out in '82.

Awesome C3. Glad to have another one on the board.

That spoiler kit was very expensive. I have the same kit on my '77 but I removed the side pieces from the front spoiler as they were cracked badly from too many curb hits.

Thanks, guys. Played with it today already. Got the new ignition switch put in without too much trouble. I'll post up my step by step later. Also got 1 1/2 door locks changed.

The motor appears to have some work done, edelbrock performer intake and carb, chrome VCs (appear to be stock heads, haven't looked hard), long tube headers. Has muffler elims, but will be putting the mufflers back on asap. New plug wires and distributor, looks like it had a tune up before it was parked. Missing the A/C compressor, so that might be a project for later.

Matthew

PS - Mrs Matatk was not a happy camper tonight. One vette is too much for her in the drive. Now make that two that don't run.....lol.

Looks like lots of potential. I can hardly wait to hear about firing that puppy up. It's hard to read Mrs Matatks body language in that shot but I figure it must be like having another lady around the house.

Thanks

Did some more work yesterday including an oil change. Crawling under the car I was surprised to see a polished oil pan. Found a sticker on the block from a rebuilder in Springfield MO called Aaron's Automotive Products. Car also has polished billet pulleys and a polished timing cover (with no timing mark!!!). Also changed the plugs (easy with headers, and using a plug wrench with a ratcheting socket on the end) but those will have to come back out to reset the distributor today. Hopefully have it at least started up soon!

Success! Got the distributor set properly and fired up right away! Kind of set it by ear until we can get a new timing mark and find TDC. I might try to set it with a vacuum gauge like my buddy suggested. Took it for a test drive and everything seems to function pretty well. There are a few little things to be worked on, but it's a project car, duh!

Great looking ride. My first vette was a 79 also and one day I will pick up another 79. Mine was black on black also.

Have you got it running good yet?

Thanks Eddie. It's running pretty well. I haven't dialed the carb and idle in 100% because the tach doesn't work. I have to replace the tach circuit board so that I can get it just right. But my father is still enjoying it when he can.

I would contact Ernie Wilcox about the circuit board. I've heard a lot of horror stories about the circuits sold by most vendors as being set up wrong and causing poor or no tach readings. Wilcox can actually test them I think to make sure they are properly set up for your Vette.

I can't believe I missed this thread last year. Do you still have the car? I'd love to do one of those. Has it been a good experience or .... never mind? I'd be in hog heaven with a C3 project car.

Once I got it running I did a few little things. I put in a new radio, added some diff fluid, fixed a few random wiring issues, brakes, minor stuff. Dad drove it home 300 miles after that without issue. It's been stored in his garage since then. Pretty much he just takes it out and plays with it a while, enjoys driving it. I ordered him a new tach board and two new door switches. I guess the interior lights were staying on. I think he got those put in, but the tach board will probably wait until I get back to the Detroit area.
