While looking at turbo kits I found this one for the C4. Its about the same price as a Procharger, which I think is a little high. It looks like they did a good job with the amount of room available.

Rear mount turbos are a very good way to install a Turbo with limited space. The only qualm I have with them is the sound is a bit odd, coming from the rear of the car. Engine revs up front, turbo whines out back...just sounds odd to me.

or say an early c4 with an ls3?

turbo is my future plans on the next motor and i think rearmounts are stealthy and sexy

They have this one using stock manifolds, so I don't know if headers take up too much room. Other than that mod I think it should fit.

Before any of you fellers take the plunge on a turbo, i wanted to tell you bout one of my ZR1 buddies, Ron Hansleman
has been working on a rear mounted turbo kit for the L98 and the LT5 Zr1, he has the prototype running, Ron was an Air force Colonel and does nothing half arsed.
Raptor is the name.... If any of you are going to the
C4/Zr1 gathering in BG Kentucky this year, he will have one of the cars there. Send me a note before you pull the trigger...here is a linky

Front mount=underhood temps skyrocket

I like rear mounts for the sound and ease of maintenance

Isn't Raptor the company that's had the C4 turbo kit 'on the verge of coming out' for the past 5 years or so?

Their thread over on the CF had estimated availability back in 2008 or something ridiculous like that, and I still don't think you can actually buy the kit.

I'd probably go elsewhere just because of the constant broken promises on availability.

EDIT: Here's the link from the CF:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-fo ... s-finally-on-the-way.html

It's been "on the way" since 2007.

The owner developer of the system was/ is a fighter pilot.
He was still active when he started the endeavor, and has had to fight through issue's with mfg. and the like.
He did not want to put a kit out there, that did not fit or would not work. The problem you have josh is that there is no other bolt on kit out there, that i know of.
Like i posted earlier, the owner Ron, is a stand up guy, and will back the product.
Two of his installer's i know personally and trust me their work is unquestioned in the ZR1 community.

Just my humble opinion, but it's cheaper to find one done than to build it. There were a few C4 turbo's that surfaced, not to long ago on the other forum. One went for less than 10k, the other was a turbo monster that ran eights with the IRS (now has solid) for $24k, if memory is correct.

$5500 - $6000 is just the start. Back in December / January I was seriously considering changing my car over to turbo. With this setup, I'd be shocked if after all of the tuning, new injectors, time, and getting the bugs worked out, if the turn key price is under $10k. Even with a mild 8 psi, you better have a very good condition or fresh bottom end or parts could break at any time.

I was disappointed with the power output. 400 - 410 rwhp isn't much for that kind of cash.

However, it would be cool to say, yeah, I built that! Tyler or Curtis, if you decide to go that way, I'd love to lend a helping hand to see the system take shape! Even though I wouldn't do it, it would still be a cool project.

Vetteoz, now that is a turbo setup. What kind of power does that thing make?

I agree it is cheaper to get one already done. I did get my car cheap, so I would be alright putting money into it. The issue with turbo systems is they are picky about the bends, and sizing. You could have two systems built the same, and have different outputs. I am looking into an engine rebuild, but will take the long route.

You could rebuild that LT1 to produce 400 - 410 rwhp without going to the expense of turbo.

Here is the 8 second Vette. Still for sale.

I am not looking for a crazy amount of power. I really like the specs on this 400hp 383.

Hmmmmm, second banana vette that turns 8's. I'd be in the doghouse for life if that thing showed up in the garage.

Tyler, there are some really nice setups on that site. I bet you could get 400 - 410 rwhp, turn key, for under $5k. Cheaper than the turbo and a fresh engine!

You might have more luck with that than a rock crawler........There's nothing wrong with two bananas!
