I was just wondering if anybody has bought or seen anything new for the C4. Any custom paint jobs or anything exciting in the C4 corvette hobby? How about a new exhaust system?

I'm not sure that it's out yet but B&B shows a "Fusion" system for the C4 on their drop down menu.. that would be cool, basically it's a similar idea as the C6 Z06 exhaust that can be loud or mild.. not sure if they are going to make it or not... there has been alot of things talked about and never made for the cars, usually it's because of money as in the average C4 owner is not willing to spend enough to make it worth their R&D and production, & they probably feel not enough units would sell even if they could get their asking price..

Yeah, I posted a bunch of links last year about their proposed fusion system and even contacted them personally about it. Back then they claimed early 2011 for a launch date, but I kind of doubt it. I think it would be a great system and would probably buy one if they put it on the market. By then, who knows what my C4 will be doing?

I would absolutely love to have some carbon fiber parts.... I remember seeing a hood from somewhere a year or two back, looked great, right up until I saw the price for it. I do not remember exactly what they wanted, I think it was several thousand dollars or even more.... ouch.

Does anybody know anything about carbon fiber ? Why is that ? Is the raw material itself ultra expensive or something ? Or is the actual forming process that is super expensive ?

I saw someone selling the carbon fiber targa shells at CF a while back - I think they were around $950. Very cool-looking and lightweight, I had to restrain myself.

That was a cool topic, why did they close that topic? Anything good or new these forums shut it down. I know these forum is a little more liberal and even lets you post topics from other forums not like CF.

Yow, $1300 now! I would've jumped on the $480 one, really a beautiful piece. I have an extra clear top that could use a lens replacement, would've made a nice transplant.

The poster quit making the top, noone was buying them at $980 and he got mad and quit making them. Somehow charging more will sell more?

All ya need Beach is an autoclave that you can roll parts into on a cradle so you can cook them.
Plus the cloth/resin is 5x fiberglass. And you need a vacuum bag system.

After looking at the pics, I'd like to know his complete process.

A friend of mine is making a 40 ft yacht entirely of carbon fiber. We talked about the use for my car for awhile, but the stuff he has is a bit thick for what I'd use it for (aero parts). All of the things Beach Bum mentions and more are why it's expensive.

It's an expensive raw material (CF sheets are crazy expensvie, I think he said $1000 for 40 ft rolls?). It's hard and time consuming to work with, and it requires special equipment. You have a make a mold of what you want to build, then reverse the mold and make the CF version the opposite way. The cool CF look is actually on the underside of the sheet.

The bonding agents are actually toxic, and hard to purchase and harder to ship. Only a few places will sell to the public.

Those are the big ones, but it makes sense that CF is not a cheap material to work with.
