I love the idea of a $4000 intake manifold on a $4000 car...the wow factor can't be beat, though!

You may need to get a highrise hood.

I saw a set up like that once for a BBC... 4 of the biggest damned Weber's I have ever seen... all for $10k!!!!!

I know folks that have that intake design, and the power delivery is a but, uh, peaky.

I did find a Chevy cross ram intake on Ebay for 199.99 buy it now price.

I did notice there is one on Ebay for 1650.00 with carbs.

For the fuel injection version pricing ???? Haven't heard back from the seller yet.

As for Air cleaners.. How about 8 little K&N filters.

I have seen another '84 near me for $2,500 that would be fun to make a toy out of. (plus provide some extra parts for my two tone blue '84)

Not a crossram intake, but similar to the style you are looking at:

Resized Image

http://www.compperformancegroupstores ... e=EZ-EFIEightStackSystems

Starting at 3968.24 and going up...

You can check out kinsler.com but not sure if they have prices...expensive though....also stackinjection.com

The thing is runner diameter... too big, and the performance is way up top. Too small, down low.

I would use the TPI runner length and diameter as a starting point.

Use EFI, for sure. There are several vendors who sell the throttle bodies and linkage that you will need. From there, you can always drill and weld bungs to the manifold for the injection itself.

You might also be able to convert old Weber carbs to the job of throttle bodies. Just a thought. It would require some machine work, and I am sure, some welding to seal some holes, but a throttle is a throttle.

As for air filters, these are designed for air boxes, cuts down on surge caused by air pressure drops and wierd stuff like that. A box on each side, with a single, large, filtered inlet.

I am about as sure as I can be that you will have to have a highrise hood. These can be massive.

Finally, the computer... I would seriously consider one of the aftermarket units - FAST or something like that. Even take a look at Megasquirt. There are others. It will have to be tuneable with a laptop, and you will SO need a dyno. This will take a pro to figure out.

And if you are going into this, do not bother doing it to a stock engine. It will be serious overkill. Like putting NOS on a lawnmower. This much intake would never run right. You will need to research the right cam to work with it. Again, it will come down to airflow and the amount the intake is providing, which is a LOT.

This sounds like a seriously cool project. If I had the $$, I would love to try it myself... but CARB would ruin all my fun, damnit.

Slightly off topic, this one's for the LS series engines.

I saw a custom shop on some Speed show build something like that for the new Ford 5.0 and put it in a rat rod. He didn't run any air cleaners that I saw.

Hmmm, you say that like it is a problem. I am envisioning a NOS bottle attached to the handlebar of my mower right now.

Back in the days when I was young and foolish, I ran about a 4 inch stack on my mower. Yes, you could hear the RPMs increase when it was on.

That's possible. I was throwing out prices of a few systems I saw online, purchased new. What do you suggest? Can you give any examples?

I like the look of those intakes. I think they are more suited to oval tracks and high speed autocross tracks. Sure would look cool under the hood of a crossfire corvette.

Just a little update....
I have been doing a little research on all this stuff and they are expensive when purchased new as complete kits $1900+ w/o computer etc.. I still want to do this project just for the coolness factor and something different! (perhaps polish it up for show) I plan on going to see what pieces I can get at the summer swap meets and go from there. I would also like to talk to a few guys that have this kind of setup on their custom rides as well and get their feedback. Will have to see how things develop this summer. Stay tuned.
