Was out for a cruise today and hit the Interstate and rolled up the windows and turned on the air. The little light indicator over the buttons started blinking when I hit Auto (electronic air)and the blower fan came on and pushed warm air out only.

I ran the codes like the manual says but it did not show any. It did read oo but that was it unless I am doing it wrong. I also checked the fuses and they are good.

Any ideas Gentlemen........it has been working fine. I had them check the freon this spring when they did the exhaust system. (they did tell me the air was blowing cold, so that might have been the extent of their check) The compressor is not doing anything when Auto is selected. Low pressure switch maybe? Thanks!

codes? as in the AC codes?

If so, the flashing light usually means low freon.

Yes I did that and when I hit the Auto it goes back to 60 degrees where I have it set for max air.

Did you just change the radio? If so you need to install 2 resistors in the original radio wiring harness on 90 to 93 models.
If the resistors are omitted during the radio installation the AC will have the same problem as you are experiencing.

Pull the connector off of the low pressure switch and see if it has continuity through the switch. If not put a jumper in the plug to see if the compressor will turn on, but don't leave it there.

No....no new radio but I had not heard of that before. Thanks. I will try that next on the low pressure switch. Thanks

I figured out how to get the codes and it read 09 low freon.
I also replaced the fan speed modual so I now have all 10 fan speeds. Nice! I had this done at the shop I use when in a hurry. They also took the heater fan housing off and cleaned all the crud out which there was a lot.

I am on a road trip this weekend so wanted it all working. It is pushing a lot more air and it is colder then it was.

The control module was pricy, 2 bills. Yikes! GM part. Even NAPA was the same price as the Chevy store.

Works good now, thanks for the help!

does the car still have r 12 in it? i changed both my zr1s to the new stuff as its a lot cheaper if you get a leaky o ring or some other fun thing that a 20yr old car can get .it really easy to do .some shops try to make you replace everything ,all i did was evac the unit .replace all the o rings with new ones and replace the dryer (big silver canister up by the radiator) and the filter in the metal line . total cost inc new refrigerant ,dryer filter and o rings was 120. i bought the evac unit from harbor freight for 80.

I just went through this myself and with instructions received here, determined the compressor was working when jumping the low pressure switch.

I was thinking about doing this myself (I have 134 in my 95) but that evac pump at HF was $150 but I think it was electric. Believe there is one you work with an air compressor.

Anyway, I bought the orifice tube and some o rings in a kit and a shop fixed the leak, put in new tube and changed o rings at the compressor as well. They said they are prone to leaking though mine weren't. Job was about $120. Next time I think I'm going to get that pump.

I also bought that fan module for about $110 from Chris(?) that parts man at the Chevy dealer recommended here in Kansas. My fan speeds still aren't working right!

I have a 92, which is still R12. I am going to update my entire AC system soon - over the winter at the latest.

The compressor, condenser, dryer, evap, lines are all 20 years old with nearly 180k miles on them. In short, they need love.

My goal is to update to R134 and use 1996 hardware to do it. Compressor, condenser and hoses. You see, metal is metal, but the rubber lines are not created equal! R134 is much smaller, at a molecular level, and as such will leach out of hoses designed for R12.

At the same time, my condenser is garbage. The bottom third has been compressed and crushed over time. Not very pretty... and it can't be working worth a damn, either.

What about that Freeze 12 stuff, isn't that compatible with the R12 or what about just R12, I think its still available on ebay, isn't it?

I thought the 134a wasn't as good to use or as cooling? Isn't there something else coming out soon that will replace the 134a? I want to say I saw an article on Road and Track on that this month or last month if I recall.

I put the ES12A in the wifes Jag instead of 134 & am pleased with the results. The ES12A uses the same screw on can adaptor as 134 uses.

Have no affiliation, got it here:

Myth,

If your compressor cycles on and off......what makes it cycle??

If it is temperature driven (which it is) then the thermistor would just have the compressor run a little longer to achieve the set temps......

To test what I say, jump the relay and have your compressor run constantly, soon frost will blow out of your vents...

So, pound for pound even if the 134a was had less cooling capacity, the thermistor would make up the difference and you inside the car wouldn't notice that the compressor ran for 134 seconds before kicking off versus 142 seconds

Could you expand on this? What resistors and where do they go? I'm trying to fix my A/C issues and the radio was completely removed from the previous owner.

I believe you are thinking of the dimmer circuit. But, there is always a first time.
