I bought the hard plastic, covered headliner from MAM. Today I get home from work, and it is sitting on top of the seats. Seems the glue on the velcro strips basically just gave way. What would your recomendations be to fix this prob? TIA for any replies Mark

I've used 3M 77 adhesive before for upholstery work, it holds up pretty well.

Not familiar with this adhesive, can I get it at a local parts place?

I would contact MAM. They should now that the glue on velcro strips will let go when it gets hot, so they should have a fix and not even charge for it. Of course that is just my opinion.

Mark, you can actually get 77 at Home Depot in the paint section. It's decent, I keep a can in the shop.
Make sure you let it skin before attaching the velcro. And I'd clean off the velcro adhesive with some brake clean on a rag before spraying the 3M.

If that fails, 3M makes a hi temp contact cement that's really good but usually has to be internet ordered.

I just destroyed one of my plexiglass fog/parking light blackouts because the Velcro adhesive let loose when it got to hot. It fell off and I drove over it. Pisses me off, because they don't sell them exactly like the old one's any more.

Here are two good articles. I like the first one and plan to do something those lines to mine. I'm just not sure what design to emboss on the surface.

I've used the 3M 77 on an old 1982 Chevrolet S-10 headliner I fixed up in high school as a low rider. Worked Great! never fell back down all the time I owned it. (1993 - 1998) I've also used it on some problematic Sun Visors on another car. In fact, I'll be using it soon to repair my sunvisors in my 1991 Corvette. It's designed exactly for this type of application.

Just remember to shake well and apply to both surfaces. Don't get it so wet that it soaks through. A good light-med. layer is enough (Depending on the weight and how porrus the headliner will be.)

Thanks for all the info guys! I am still going to try MAM on monday first, seeing as I haven't had it all that long, maybe a warranty type fix? Ya I know, dreaming. Definately going to homo depot to get the 77 anyway. Have the carpet on the doors starting to sag, and will try it on those. Thanks again guys Mark

I've got mine to replace as well, lost the headliner after shooting up to 120 with the windows down.

I bought some Alcantara to use as my material. Just need to sit down and cut the template and glue it in.

Took my top to a auto upholsterer and left it. he replaced the old with a new black headliner that looks better than the original one ever did.
Cost was $100.00. No muss, no fuss!
