Thanks Brian. I'll check with him.

Although I just got back from the guy who did them the first time and he thinks he might be able to save it. That would be a dream.

Really sorry to see it happen.

A good cyl head man will be able to weld that chamber damage up easily. I've fixed far worse damage. As long as the debris didn't beat up the seats and valves it'll be pretty cheap to repair. Simple weld fee, some shaping/blending and re-surface.

Make sure to check the rod out really good to be certain it's still straight. The way that piston is collasped is very interesting looking. With so little, the damage was definatly low speed - So I'm gonna guess it happened cranking over on the starter or shortly after firing.

I am also curious as to what it ingested.

The debris is the #4 intake valve seat. It slipped out, got beat up by the valve, and half of it fell into the cylinder. It obviously got mashed around in there for a bit until it collapsed the water passage, which dumped water into the cylinder and eventually hydrolocked the motor.

Will you are correct, the failure happened at idle. Although the damage was caused by an extremely lean dyno run the day before. Last week I swapped a smaller TB on to try and choke some HP off and it had the opposite effect. My awesome MAP computer did not add any fuel to keep up with the higher air velocity (volume?) and ran between 14 and 15:1. Too bad the guy didn't look at the AFR before making three passes. But good thing I had him add a sniffer as I've run lean before.

My guess is that the heads got hot and the seat may or may not have fallen out at that point. Afterwards, I put the other TB back on to correct the lean condition. I ran a warmup session Saturday morning, and noticed the car running a little funny. It actually seemed more like it was low on gas - hesitation in certain corners, etc. After the warmup I went across the scales and cut the motor. The car wouldn't refire because I killed the battery running the WP and fans while it was off. I jumped it and was driving back to my garage when it hydrolocked and the day was done.

It did put down 414 RWHP before expiring Stock compression, pump gas...

Sorry, no LT1 stuff sitting on the shelf. As mentioned contact Ron. I know he had a bunch of stuff available a while back.

Sounds like you could use some 113 heads and a converted LT1 intake on the shelf.

It's not so much that, Bill, as it is the pitfalls of building a car before you know into what class you want it to fit.

I'm tempted to drop my LS2 in it, the 360 hp at the tire in that car is just about perfect

Or I could go run SCCA...wait, no I can't. There is no class for a C4, except maybe the BS catch-all that is ITE.

BTW anyone recognize that head gasket in the first picture? I can't find my notes on it.

Looks like this one:

You guys have a better recommendation?

Nah, it's just the dyno/horse power thing in NASA bugs me.
I think cause NASA is based in Ca.

Build first then think about racing happens a lot and you're stuck.

ITE's a great class but you have to build to the class first, not try to fit in.

I have great respect for NASA as an organization and have had a NASA license. Just don't like the class structure.

Of course, as you know, I'm not big into racing production cars anyway. Though I do like silhouette - GT1.

I can tell you it's a Fel Pro by the blue silicone impregnated beads around the water ports.... beyond that I have no idea. Should have the PN stamped on the underside where the pushrods go thru (top of the deck by the lifter valley).

If you can't read it or find a PN on it then take a caliper, meaure it's compressed thickness and the bore. Fel Pro list the gasket specs on Summit so it should be easy to match up.

As for recomendations... it would depend on where the piston sits in the hole, ie piston to deck.

Found the part number, it was still legible (1074). Gaskets coming Saturday. Now all I need is a head to put on the gasket. Minor details...
