I finally got all my rear suspension back together after a lengthy removal, restore, and upgrade process. I had everything rear of the transmission out of the car. I cleaned and prepped and painted everything I could, which included the drive shaft and half shafts...with all new joints.

I don't have my ceramic pads yet so I don't have the rotors or calipers installed yet. For my purposes though...this was the hard part.

Sharkbite is not fun to install...but man it looks sexy. Enjoy the pics.

Looks nice Matt.

If you're going to use the coilovers to adjust ride height, I'd suggest you have weight in the drivers seat or someone to sit in there when taking measurements.

Bill, I've actually had this suspension in the car before. I put it in without restoring anything. Last summer, I discovered I had a rotten T/A bushing, rotten strut bushings, and I needed a higher stall torque converter.

I took everything out behind the transmission, which included dropping the transmission to install the new TC, and everything went back in with new bushings, U-joints, stripped and painted everything, and modified my T/As for a rear stabilizer bar.

I had the time to properly set the suspension a year or so ago so this time when I put it in I just set it all back up to how I had it. Both the shocks are adjusted and the ride height is set.

That's one sexy rear end! How bad is the install for the sharkbite? It looks like it just pretty much bolts up. Or is it a lot more involved?

Matt, it's tough because it all has to go together in a specific order. The instructions do not list that order, but unless you do one thing first the next piece won't fit yet.

Also, some steps require the suspension to be loaded, others do not, and you have to line it up vertically and horizontally for the two mounting points.

On top of that, during my original install a year or so ago, I had to modify several parts in order for it to fit. It was not bolt on.

One nice thing about the bellcrank design is that you can adjust ride heigh separately from spring preload.
You can't do that on tha std. coilover setup.

Important for roadracing mostly.

for it to be perfect, the shocks ideally should be flat - 90* off the pivot. That's not possible here... but it should still flat out rock and roll.

The goal then is to get it as close to 90* as is reasonably possible. And that looks like its been done.

It sure does look kickass. And it has to be better than that damned TLS. Hate those things.

I don't think that's a big consideration in bellcrank designs to a point, Andy. The shock moves thru an arc too which is different from a street design. The systems I've worked on weren't at 90 and they had much more engineering that this one.

I have always hated the transverse leaf springs. I never even liked the fiberglass versions...nor the adaptation of one in the front. I remember people complaining about the one in the rear and then turning around and bragging they put one in the front.

The other thing was weight. Back then, the factory leaf spring was super heavy. I could installed (3) Shark Bite kits for the same weight as the leaf spring. The rear end in my car is really light now...almost to the point where I don't want to install my future planned aluminum calipers. I'm afraid nothing will keep the ass of this car planted if I shave much more weight.
