Good morning.
The hurricane shutter guys showed up yesterday. They put up a number of shutters on the windows. They'll be back today to finish most of it. The panels and tracks match the house paint pretty good. When finished I should be able to button up this house in less than 2 hours. While sitting on the back porch this morning with the breezes of the tropical storm whizzing around, I remembered how much I dislike hurricanes and strong tropical storms. Glad we're inland and in a strong house but I hope they all pass us by.
Off to the Keys this morning for a delivery. Chat with y'all later.

Good Morning CGs!

Glad to hear that guy finally got off his butt, Tommy. I know he was delaying the work quite a bit.

Happy to hear TB got a good health report yesterday, too.

I spent over an hour on the phone with Sprint yesterday. I finally got a different phone to replace the one that keeps breaking. We'll see if this one works

Hoping to do the a/c conversion tonight. Neighbor couldn't get the vacuum pump last night, said he'll have it tonight. We'll see.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Howdy! Storm mojo, Tommy - hope any occasions those shutters are needed are few and far between. Gorgeous day here, gonna be 83 and sunny. I have a golf tournament this afternoon, won't be able to use lousy weather as an excuse.

If you need your hackles raised, this should do it:

110???!!!! Geez and here I was about to whine over our piddly little 101 or so we had yesterday... I HATE when it gets this hot. Don't like winter, either - wished I could move to one of those 'in between' climates... today is my Monday, hoping it won't turn out like a normal Monday...
Have a good day, all...

Unusually cool here today...Only going to be low 80's the next few days, and then near 90 on the weekend. Supposed to be near 62 tonight. I'm not complaining!

Things are always exciting in Reno.

Do we hold an autocross in a K-Mart parking lot ?

Nah, our next autocross will be at Squaw Valley (where the Olympics were held). www.squaw.com

It's going to be a fun party after the gyus & gals run around the cones.

The reality is that tasks cost money. Somebody has to get billed. It is the responsabilty of the owner (or estate) to pay for these expences and bill the insurance company or sue the responsible party (which would result in no recovery in many cases). It was her decision to store the vehicle. If the prosecutor or police had an interest they would have impounded the vehicle. I feel compassion for the woman but the reality is nothing is free. When my wife got in a serious accident that resulted in a phone pole being toppled we got billed $125 for the phone pole. Not for disruption of service, not for the manpower to replace it. Just the physical pole itself. I also got a bill from County Fire Rescue for the helicopter ride to the trauma unit to the tune of $1500. My wife would not be here without the services provided. They did provide a service. I can't get my hackles to jacked. Even in bad times, expences are generated.

So why not bill the party that caused the accident?

I don't think private parties are going to sort through the legalities of who pays what. The expences incurred by your vehicle are paid by your insurance carrier then the insurance company goes after the guilty party. In this case the guilty party has nada, zilch, zippo. She does have 17 years to think about the errors of her ways prior to her deportation upon release.

Have you ever chatted with a funeral home rep? Basicly it goes like this.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Here, step into the office.

Do you have an idea of the services you are interested in?

Casket?

Obituary?

Memorium cards?

Grave site?

We can provide this for you at $XX,XXX. Payment must be made in advance. If I can be of any further assistance feel free to contact me.

Nobody will bill the guilty party there.

Hi, I'd like to plan my funeral.

That's very prudent Mr. Bill
Have you picked out a casket? We have some very nice lower priced ones in the $5 to $6,000 range.

Cardboard's good.

We can't do cardboard Mr. Bill, the corpse may fall out on the way to the graveside.

How about a shipping crate? I have a few extra's outside the garage.

We could possibly do that Mr. Bill.....but there would be an extra handling charge.......and I must say it's in poor taste.

What would I care? I'll be dead.

Do you have a burial plot Mr. Bill?

Desert's good.

I'm afraid we can't just dig a hole in the desert Mr. Bill.

What if I get a permit from The BLM?
By the way, do you offer graveside kegs?

I'm getting toasted and put in a biodegradible box. I'll be placed a short boat ride from shore The whole shabang should be no more than 2 grand. We are not going to waste a lot of money on disposal.

Have you made a plan for internment? It's important that someone know your wishes. Who will pay and how? Decide while you can make a conscious decision. You never know when it's time to go.

I MAY wash the windshield, seems a bit excessive though.

I've not really got any family left that I'm close to. I have an aunt and a couple cousins here, only hear from them when they want something. I have an elderly cousin the next town over - so no one to really leave anything to., I've informed a friend of mine that when I croak, if there are any salvageable parts, and the docs can reach 'em, take 'em - torch the rest, put my ashes next to my mother's - I already have my headstone filled out minus the death date. If anyone chooses to memorialize me, play three songs I've chosen, get some booze, hookers, install a pole - whatever - enjoy the party. I do not want the relatives that I never hear from in here pilfering through my shit. Take the family photos, nothing else. I've asked my friend to sell my things at fair market value (NOT auction) and keep whatever else... speaking of which,,, I need to get my ex's name off my financial shit....

True story.
I had a friend named Charles. He had been married 20+ years previously and never got divorced. He had nothing to do with his ex-wife for all that time. He dated, he met a woman and they had a son together. He loved his son. We told him over and over again to change his paperwork so if something happened to him his son would be provided for. Always put it off. One day someone found him dead in an elevator. No foul play. In the state of Florida, your estate (with no will) has an order of distribution. First is the wife, second your kids, and so on. After 20+ years his ex got a payday. Got all his life insurance benefits. You know she kept everything. His beloved son got a big fat zero. If you have something you need to do, do it. The consequences can be life altering.
