Yup. Shocker. Something I wasn't sure I would ever do...

But...

I have decided to sell the C4s and buy a C6.

Why? As much as I love the 92, it has been 17 years since I bought it and needs more love than I have time to spend.

I will be doing some minor fixes and such to make it a complete car, ready to drive.

This is the real funny part...

* June 2000, I buy a used 1992 coupe with 39k miles on it, and a clean CARFAX for $16,800.00.

* Applying that amount to an inflation calculator, it bounces up to $23,700 or so... which is about the price point I am looking at for a nice 2006-2010 C6 Coupe.

My 92 is nearing 220k, but the engine has only 95k or so on it. I do have the original engine - meaning, numbers matching, which is important to many people. That will go with the car if nothing else, or I will sell it independently.

I am going to ask $6500 for the 92, and take it down to $6k without the OEM motor. At that point... donno how much I will really take.

I think my pricing is legit, the miles are high, but I have kept up the car. The rest is just tired... as a driver, it will serve well for the next 50-80k miles without an issue, however, if you want to track it, then the ZF6 and the rear diff need rebuilt. No ifs, ands or buts.

I am hoping to salvage bastet44's '87 for about $1000... It has a full suspension, plus a modern 4L60E trans. The body is good - hood, all the glass, etc. And quite a bit of spare parts. It seems like a fair price.

My C6 goal? At least a base coupe, with a 6spd. Mileage is important, but not a final word. If I find a nice Z06 with 60k on it for the same price as a base coupe with 30k, then I will jump on the Z06. I love the look of the C6 ZO6.

When I bought my C4, mileage was important. It had only 39k on it, and I was driving 100 miles a day at the time. Well, I am only doing 30 miles a day now. So if it has a little more mileage, that's not fatal.

I do not want a 100k mile car. At that point, wear is beginning to be an issue.

I found a 2006 yellow C6 coupe at a dealer in TX with only 17k miles for $23k! I am going to run a CARFAX and ask the dealer about it. It appears to be a base 1LT with no options beyond the 6spd. As long as it doesn't show being a flooded car, or something like that, I might just pursue it. It's a small dealer north of Dallas... smaller town? lower prices? Never know.

My colours are, in no specific order, are:

* Velocity Yellow
* Precision Red - the darker red
* Cyber Grey
* LeMans Blue

There are no greens... sniff... but those are nice options. I do not want bright red, nor am I into the idea of whites or silvers. I do think that the C5 looks great in silver.

As for interior colours, I am into basic black or the tan, which, like the C4, a 2 tone affair... black dash and waterfall, with tan seats, console cover, carpets, lower door panels and under dash.

Any input would be appreciated.

If you own a C6, any insights would be equally appreciated.

Yep that is big news.....You will love the C6.....some engine issues with the Z06 427's but that has clearly been documented. I might recommend that you stay away from the 05's as some of them had issues that have mostly been resolved by now by the PO's..... Any new generation will have those issues you know.

LS2 is a fine engine ask TB.... In 08 they made several changes or upgrades which included the LS3 engine...which it turns out may be one of Chevy's best ever. It's solid as a rock....and responds well to bolt on performance. I put long tube headers on mine with the CAI I had from Corsa along with a mild tune and it went 400 and 400 on a Mustang dyno. Stock at the crank was 430 hp. So gained around 30 rwhp and torque.....

Of course you have to go to an 08 to get one and that means more moola.......

They went with another 6M tranny in 08 also the Tremec TR6060 which had a bunch of improvements to it.

Harmonic Balancer wobble has been a problem on some C6's but I think the early ones were most effected.......lots of documentation on that also.

Lot's of bad press on the seats but I find them very comfy....they were mostly maligned when used at the track.

Not many issues with the powertrain's...... fuel gauge level sensors can go bad in these and that's an expensive fix as they have to drop one or both the rear tanks out. Cheaper for a 6M than a 6A. Whole rear end has to come out with the 6A whereas the 6M is skinny enough that you can drop the tanks without taking out the whole rear end. I had this done to mine when the fuel level sensor went bad in the passenger side tank. I reported it while it was still under warranty and they fixed it for me. Probably a 2500 dollar deal if no warranty.

Some folks go the whole life of the car and that never is an issue.

Hope that all helps......good fortune in your search....

Marcus - thanks for the insights!!!

The 08's had a lot of updates, but the price goes up... a lot, from what I have seen.

need to search, I have found a base 2006 C6, in yellow, with 17k miles. It's a 1LT, base suspension, basic Vette Coupe. For all of $23k. Clean 1 owner car. CARFAX has blessed it.

Don't know what more to add, Andy. Marcus covered it pretty good. Don't be afraid of the LS2. Many guys really knock them but it has more power than I'll ever use. They are night and day difference from C4s. Marcus' GS and my 007 both have the two tone seats, which I really like. His titanium/black, mine cashmere/black. They all have black in the luggage area. Lots of room.

M6 models do have the slave cylinder/clutch thing. But I occasionally just use a baster/or syringe and suck the fluid out of the master and replace with fresh. There have been some recalls, headlights going out, recently, the airbag light thing (which I refuse to have the recall done, as they remove the connector and solder solid the wires under the seat, then if you want to take the seats out, the wires have to be cut and resoldered when you re-install). and only a couple weeks ago I got a recall letter about the clutch issue. I think I'm out on that one as they will only fix less than ten years since it went into service or 120k mileage. Pretty sure I'm out for time.

I'll keep my eyes open for you.

I have found a 2006 in TX... and I am going to pursue it.

17k original 1 owner miles. Lived its life in the Dallas area. It's a strippy, 1LT, FE1 suspension, base bose, 6spd... in a V-Yellow paint with black. It's nice and basic and the dealer wants only $23k for it!!!

I call that a car I can't ignore.

I have seen others in the price point, more options, more features (more shit to break) for about the same money, but more miles... why pay $1000 more for more options but 30k more miles?

thoughts?

you are thinking what I am thinking.

Basic and to the point. Hell, it still has power everything, dual zone climate, leather... it's not stripped, just not over contented.

And 17k miles? shit, that's new.

Heated seats are nice. I scoffed at them when I found my GS had them but soon I was singing their praises as my old tired back would soak up the heat on a chilly fall day. I think they only come with a 3LT and up package but may be wrong on that. Might have been able to just order them on the car. You know how GM likes to put there options in groups.

The 3LT includes the high end Bose system, power telescopic steering wheel, heated seats, heads up display, two toned seats with perforated leather inserts and a bunch of other stuff I never use like the navigation which is an antique in this modern day and age.

The one thing I would recommend you get is the heads up display. Very cool option I use mine all the time and would be disappointed if I did not have it. The 3LT package added 4,700 bucks to the car in 2010.....

Be patient there are a ton of good low mileage cars out there with all kinds of options and at all kinds of prices......

I think the two tone seats were an option all its' own. IIRC, they could be had on a 1LT car.

I have spoken to the dealership. They seem pretty straight and have a good rep on autotrader.

Anyone near Whitesboro TX?

I am almost willing to buy this blind... it is a chevy dealer reselling... but the specs:

2006 Coupe, yellow, black interior
17,500 original one owner miles
Full service history (I have a GM history doc from my bud at Superior/Hendrick)
Base model, 1LE, FE1 suspension... meaning, nothing to break and easy to upgrade (brakes/coil overs)
Base Bose, no heads up, nav or what not to remove or figure out when replacing

Thoughts?

I am waiting for a shipping quote.

IT'S AROUND FIVE HOURS AWAY FROM ME, AND I DON'T KNOW ANYBODY IN THE AREA.

CAR LOOKS NICE AND I LIKE YOUR RATIONAL. IF IT'S WHAT YOU WANT MAKE YOUR BEST DEAL LONG DISTANCE, FLY IN TO DFW, (BRING MONEY) PICK UP CAR AND MAKE ROAD TRIP HOME. BY THE TIME YOU GET THERE YOU WILL KNOW IF YOU YOU LIKE THE CAR OR NOT.

IT'S SO EASY TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR OTHER PEOPLE ;-)

The problem? I don't have the time to do the drive...

Shipping costs about the same as a fly-drive, from my estimates.

I am gonna ask on FB... see if anyone is in the area.

That is surprising...

I have the leave... I just have too much going on...

I have a shipping quote, the inspectors will be inspecting the C6 today.

I have a buyer for the 92! An old friend from HS has always liked the car and gave me an offer I can't refuse, to be honest.

He lives in GA and will be out in June to pick it up.

That's about that, I guess.

I bought Sue's Porsche sight unseen with just an inspection report and and a dealer with a good rep. I had a ton of pics to go by too. The dealer even set up the transporter and all I had to do was pay for the transporter. You'll either love it or hate it. Worked out for us.

The inspectors gave it a very good grade - "A-". The only dings? Some dings in the paint.

Good Michelin tires, Borla cat back and a BBK cold air intake.

Super clean!!!

I ran a KBB eval on it and they priced it at $26.2k, yeah...

SOLD SOLD SOLD! Next step, bank and wire transfer.

I hear ya! I do the same, don't use the Nav in either of my so-equipped rides anymore.
But, I do appreciate the fancy double-DIN touch screens of today.
Kinda wish I hadn't bought the NAV module for the Pioneer in the C5. I guess it's good that it's there as a back up (ironic as I used to consider my smart phone as the back-up).

Well, if you change your mind, I'll make you a smokin' deal!

The Borla exhaust is sweet. Mine has a little drone, but is easily worked around with the 6 speed manual.

You'll love it, Andy.

You'll love it Andy. We were so excited when we bought ours, have had it for 8 years. Its a great car, but the best advice I can give you is try to refrain from modifying it. My project snowballed and I've got ZO6 money into a car Ill be lucky to see 40% of the value of. Ironically this is our last summer with the C6. After 8 years, we did it, we enjoyed it and its time to move back into a C4. I'm out of things to modify on this car I guess. lol. Good luck with your search!

If you're already putting the double DIN in, I'd get the nav just so it's there. Isn't much more money and then you have it if you need it. Most states are passing laws to prevent cell phone use while driving.

They might be passing said laws, but if the phone is mounted, there is no argument. Even in CA!

Hands free is the key, and Google maps has all the resources of the Google server farms to plot a route. Get an in-dash Nav and you are stuck with old tech and limited data resources. They are expensive and obsolete the moment you buy it.

My GS has the aforementioned navigation system......it helps to have a degree from MIT to operate it and you need to update it periodically and that only cost like $220 dollars....... what a great deal....!

That's my point!

We had a Garmin, still do, and it's a nice piece, but it requires a 2+ gig micro SD card to store all the map data, and takes 2-4 hours to update once a quarter!

The Google Maps app has the power to access the interactive Google server farm to get real time traffic and accident data to route you the best. It is the ticket, so to speak!

Besides, phones are faster and can set geo location via cell towers if there is a comm problem with the satellites.

Should be a lot of Double DIN choices with Android Auto support—there were many at CES this year.
