The problem with my 1990 zr1 stick shift is that the lever pull up (for reverse backup) sometimes does not work. I noticed that the 1.5mm screw backs out frequently and needs to be screwed back in for the lever to work. My mechanic told me that this screw is set in a rubber piece which may be worn out. What can I do??
I was thinking about super gluing the screw into the rubber piece, or getting a 2mm screw as a replacement instead of the 1.5mm screw. Any other suggestions, I would truly appreciate.
Thanks,
rg

Maybe try some loctite first?

Otherwise:

www.zfdoc.com

Foremost expert in these transmissions. He might have a solution.

I agree with Mat. ZFdoc is the right guy to contact.

Welcome!!!!

You need to be super careful when dealing with these transmission... one wrong move and you are looking at a $3500 rebuild...

ZFDoc is the expert... check with him on this.

And he is THE goto guy for rebuilds. I simply don't trust anyone else with the ZF6's. Short of ZF themselves, but Bill has developed some engineering improvements that are applied to the build.

It isn't cheap, but it is great.

The reverse lockout ring is probably cracked (it is plastic) I would try replacing that first as that sounds like your issue
