Since Marcus is having issues with his fotophuckit account, I'll try to post the pictures he has sent me already and will post the pictures of his trip home with it. Mrs. Uman has wanted something like this for some time, I'm sure she will be tickled with it too.

Well we made the first 60 miles without any trouble...... drove through the coastal range to get out to 101.... Temp never bumped over 180 and 182......the little 283 just a humming along.....Running around 1800 at 60 mph on the Dakota Digital.....good brakes.....lots of folks zoom right over to us in a parking lot.....one guy asked what kind of car was that...... I'm like Dude.....its a Cheby......

The car is pretty much all there......Ducky who we bought it from and Mrs. Ducky had 22 to work on it to get it in its present shape..... everything works except the lighter...... hey hey what are you trying to sell us here.......geez...... The LED taillights really pop when they come on..... so far so good..... we were at the airport at 4:30 am took off at 6:30 CST...and got out here at 7:30 am.........I'm thinking we got into a time warp or something..... More as we live it.....

A quote from the gentleman Marcus bought the car from....

Quote:
Marcus and the lovely Mrs. U have begun their epic journey in their "new" `56. These two are really great people and we are truly blessed to know them. Being from a farm background (cattle & hay, not corn) we had lots to talk about. Marcus even presented me with a "seed hat" so now I have a connection to corn country! We are already making plans to visit them in the "Good Life" state next year. Be safe on your trip home.

I don't know if it was the same hat I got, but Marcus presented me with one as well when we first met.

I have more shirts just like that one Tommy..... in fact I call it my Tommy Collection.... one must fit in.....

Long day yesterday on the 101....saw some unbelievable vistas..... but any surfside town we went through had traffic backed up for a couple of miles..... I finally found the culprit....each little town has one traffic light and so that backs us up for miles......but between them was good driving....the 101 has slow lanes every 5 miles or so and that lets the fast movers get around the old Fiddysix with the Nebraska rubes rubbernecking the surroundings.

But all that pales in comparison to when we hit the The 5 heading up to Seattle....where we crossed at Longview.....after driving on Highway 30....the Lincoln Highway...and crossing the river on a big dam bridge to get into Washington.... Then it was bumper to bumper riding side by side 3 wide....Old Nell was moving and a grooving but she's real comfortable at around 65..... even though this car has been thoroughly cared for and modernized its still a 1950's station wagon... hmmm....maybe a tube frame and coil overs will make that work a bit better....

Reactions to the car have been continuous...my wife says it a happy car because everyone is smiling and laughing and asking questions or telling about that's just like the one their parents had when they were young.....honking cars with thumbs up, folks wanting to take pics in front of it..... everywhere we go..... I am surprised at how many young folks like it.... One gal who was filling our tank in Oregon.....yes it is still the law up there.....said that the car was her dream car.....I said well work hard and maybe you can get one one day...... I don't know how to drive she said......she's like in her mid twenty's I would guess......

Anyway in Seattle for a couple of days then the adventure continues....

Made it to Nampa but came within .7 gals of fuel of being stranded in the wilderness...... the famous last words...I thought I could make it, come into play..... Old Nell does not get that good of mileage and only has a 17 gal tank....I learn another lesson...when it hits a quarter tank find a gas station....

Had the starter solenoid not kick in once yesterday.... worries me a bit...I will see how it works this morning...I'm around Boise and am wondering if I should see if there is a starter in the area and just get it fixed here. The starter has not sounded right since we picked the car up but this is the first time it did not engage.

Broke my drivers side window yesterday rolling it up. It was cracked in the lower corner when we got the car and I was aware of that. But it caught on something and cracked all the way up right in the middle of the glass. Then it would only roll up about 2/3 rds of the way..... We taped the hole shut with some clear packing tape and it is good to go..... ah the life and times of a 62 year old car going cross country.....

The car has run well....I have been rolling at 65 to 80 mph and the car handles great and rides so good....seats are good with new foam and such..... The R7004 tranny is a gem....as we cruise at 70 mph at 2K on the tach. Also the Digital Dash from Dakota...is a wonder...love it... 3:36 rear gears. It will push 190 degrees when sitting for a shor bit with the air on....I am going to add an electric fan to it when I get back...most the time its right on 180.

Going to take US 20 and 26 today over to Jackson Hole Wyoming... two lane blacktop....and out in the middle of nowhere..... I better check around for a starter..... the adventure continues...... have a great day Guru's...

Rolling at that speed is as dangerous as texting. Pull over for a few minutes in a nice spot instead.

Dude.....we just been out on the left coast where you can roll your own anytime.... I can roll one handed....especially with the big EZ Wider papers..... like those things can make some torpedoes......

Got up fairly early and called Napa in Nampa to see if they had a starter for the old barge.....hell ya they did so went and got fuel and discovered I left the fuel cap on the pump at our last stop.....chit.....probably the original...called them and they had it and are sending it to our house.... anyway....went and got the starter for 71 bucks worth of insurance..hell I can take it back where I live when we get home if I don't need it.....car started fine all day.....

we started in Nampa and cruised through Boise to Mountain Home ID. There we got off the Interstate and jumped on US 20 and headed off the end of the earth.... it was 160 miles to Idaho Falls but after all the dinking around we did not get going till around noon...we wanted to get all the way to Jackson Hole and have time to check it out....after sightseeing at the Craters of the Moon lava flow....we made it on in to Idaho Falls and called it quits... hot days and we like Holiday Inn Express and the fine free breakfast they give you....

So tomorrow we will hit Jackson Hole and then try to get to Casper WY or beyond.....

Car just purred right along.....temp is running a bit hotter then the last two days so will check the radiator in the morning....the old cars required more attention then these days..... Have a good night Guru's...

Once you have the part, the old one will work just fine.

Glad to know you folks are progressing … I'm guessing about 1,500 miles as of Idaho Falls.

To tell the truth John I have not even looked yet... The Dakota dash has all sorts of nifty tricks that I have learned. I am keeping track of the miles on it. But I didn not look tonight.

another long day but a good one. Took 20 out of Idaho Falls and headed up the big hills.... saw lots of potatoes being grown.... Idaho Famous Potatoes on their license plates you know. Saw some of the most amazing country God ever thought up. I love the American West... kept going till we hit Jackson Hole which is a tourist trap for rich folks.... had a Buffalo burger and Tots for lunch which was delish.....then we started in with the souvs....had to hit every store....we only bought the cheap stuff...but nice...

then we take off and stop for gas and they were out of gas which is worrisome..... so she said there was a place 10 miles down the road so we missed that place rubbernecking the Tetons....good Lord those are majestic mountains...went by the airport all lined up with privet jets... so I am below half a tank and don't want to turn around so thought we could make it to Dubois....55 miles....course it was 55 miles straight up....after awhile I thought here we go again....but popped over a hill and bless their hearts there was a camp ground with a fuel outlet.....thank you thank you....I knew there would be fuel along the way.... not....

Old Nellie was acting sluggish after we took off it was like 93 degrees and we are loaded with souvenirs as well as all our other junk....I been running High Test in baby...giving her all the help I can....at one point I am in 2nd and have the Quads feathering in....it is nice to hear a four bbl doing its thing....been to long. So I get to the top and it says we are at 9600 feet.....holy moly no wonder baby is struggling.....hell we can hardly breath....damn... Temp never got over 185 with the air on even on the big hills....bless Harrison aluminum radiators.... finally hit the flat and let her run out....it is flat and wide and smooth so I put her up to 80 and let her sit there for awhile....not one complaint...and we are still around 6000 feet above sea level....in the 90's.

the other thing I love is having the high beam clicker on the floor....where God intended to be.....

Anyway we made it to Casper WY and will make it home tomorrow if all goes as planned.... right now I am loving the Fiddysix....Good night guru's...

We are back from the Ultra's most excellent adventure...... and what says welcome home more then getting picked up for speeding in the first Nebraska town we go through...... geez.......turns out he just mostly wanted to look at the car I think....... just gave me a verbal warning and said have a good day..... and you also sir.......

Well 2500 miles in the old Chevy since we picked her up in Eugene OR over a week ago. Have seen some glorious country and met tons of nice folks most of which had a story of the mid 5 Chevy they or their parents owned.... but mostly wished they had back....

The car ran flawlessly until we hit Nebraska....... I was pushing it out on the Interstate that we picked up in Ogallala......trying to run 75 80 and it missed a few times and acted out all crappy.......so I slowed down to 65 mph and it smoothed right out...... what the heck..... very hot and humid.....the car has never been in this low of altitude......

She ran fine at 70 so we left her there. As time went on I let it creep up and once again she started missing and backfired thru the carb and then shut off.......on the 80 about a half a mile from an exit we were going to stop at....... took her to the side and just coasted up the off ramp and let her stop. we sat there for a bit not saying much...... then I fired it right up and we pulled in to get fuel and let it sit for a bit.....

We decided to take highway 30 back to get of the 80 in case it just would not run and we had to pull off......not concerned because we have all kinds of folks that can come get us in a variety of trailers.........

So we pulled into the town of Kearney NE......and they were having their big summer cruise in....and we pulled onto main street headed east and we were in a big line of hot rods and everything else cruising main with tons of folks sitting in lawn chairs along the route...... Nellie was a mess of course but we fit right in with folks waving and giving us the thumbs up.... we did not make a return trip up the other side of the street.

From there we cruised at 60 to 65 all the way home and she never missed a beat....... I am going to replace the fuel filter to see if we were restricting the fuel at all.......the car ran out west at 70 to 80 without any problems.... so I don't know what is going on.....something to do with the fuel.....burning ethanol of course but have been all the way.....

Trip of a life time and me and the Mrs. had a ball.... now I gotta go clean that old dog up and make it presentable...... thanks for listening ...... and thanks again to Tom for posting the pics........
