I will be working all day once I decide to get off my ass. Party prep day. Over 100 invitees. (Thanks, Sue) Most of the shopping is finished. Just need to get a couple tons of ice and a few of yet to be discovered forgotten items. Let the good times roll .......

Ho-ho-ho! I'll have to give myself an F- on sleeping in today. I woke up at 4:30, and feel like I never really got back to sleep, so I got up about 6:45. I see a nap in my future.

Hope all the Gurus have a great Christmas!

The digital version of this year's card—envisioning and staging by Ivelis, photography by John. Thoughts definitely extended to all the Gurus.

Morning guys...Slept in a bit. Cold start, but supposed to warm into the 50s today. Supposed to be similar tomorrow for our commute to central Kansas for the in-law Christmas, but the weather is turning iffy for the return home Wednesday.

I need to go out and check my mudding on the rental.....waiting for some trim pieces to come in from Menards. Supposed to be in today, just not sure if I want to go over to the 'city' today to get them. If I do, I will be able to finish that job up.

#2 and the boys will be over after church this evening (if the boys are feeling up to it) for their Christmas here. I don't think they will be going tomorrow.

I hope and pray that all the gurus will have a wonderful, safe and joyous Christmas.

Ahh Christmas Art Deco.......looks good John.

Had out Christmas yesterday and it was a good day filled with food and football and more food and movies and then there was food.......

Almost made it to 10 o'clock sleeping in this morning. I would have made it were it not for the pack of Yorkies all wanting the same bone.

Always enjoy keeping up with all of you and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Thank you, Marcus. The staging credit (she sets those Hallmark Christmas cars and trucks up every year) goes to Ivelis. She also was the one who saw the reflections and the shadows and asked me if I get could get that on bits. After that, it was just a Nikon Df, Adobe Photoshop CC 2019, Adobe InDesign CC 2019, and me …

On this Christmas Eve, my deep past is reaching out and grabbing me.

I'll try to make this short—with some references. When I was young, I sang for the Choir School of St. Thomas Church:

http://www.choirschool.org/

(yes, I was one of those cute choir boys—and we hated being called cute, except when it was young ladies of the same age who thought so)

St. Thomas Church itself is on Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan:

http://www.saintthomaschurch.org/

It is a Gothic church from central casting. In most cities in the world, it would be the cathedral, but this is New York. The magnificent reredos is notable for many things, among them for having George Washington as one of the (many) statues:

https://c1.staticflickr.com/2/1113/1009010257_9666d2c1ea_b.jpg

I sang for St. Thomas from 1979 to 1982, reaching my musical peak at age thirteen (sigh). The style of singing at St. Thomas is in the "English tradition," and the most famous practitioner of that tradition is Kings College Cambridge. The BBC has broadcasted their Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve since 1928:

http://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/events/cha ... ervices/nine-lessons.html

When I was finishing up at St. Thomas, big news in boy choir circles was that Kings College was getting a new director of music, Stephen Cleobury. Thirty-six years later, this is his last Lessons and Carols—his replacement (full circle) will be the current director of music at my old Choir School in New York, Daniel Hyde.

So, I'm sitting in our audio/video room, listening to the (slightly delayed) stream of Kings College and reflecting more than a little …

That's pretty cool, John! That's a good go at the sleep in Marcus... glad you are enjoying the family.

Well, I had to put another coat of mud on a couple of the patches.... no big deal, I have to go back out and finish the trim anyway... just not today. I then went out to the shop and cut out (on the CNC) a big "JOY" sign for Rosie. You've probably seen them, has the nativity scene in the middle of the O. She told me last night, she wanted one for next Christmas, so I designed and did it today, so she can take her time to paint it.

Very cool and very personal—the best kind of gift.

I too sung in the church choir at Holy Name Church in Boston (West Roxbury) and was an alter boy and was later in the Holy Name Band Color Guard. I was once thought to be a responsible young man. Well I'm still responsible but I refuse to take the blame.

YES, HORNFISCHER'S LATEST, "THE FLEET AT FLOOD TIDE".
HE WRITES VERY WELL, AND AS I KNOW VERY LITTLE NAVY LORE, I FIND IT VERY INTERESTING. HIS FIRST BOOK, AND BEST I THINK, WAS "THE LAST STAND OF THE TIN CAN SAILORS" ABOUT THE BATTLE OF LEYTE GULF.

THERE WAS A MAN NAMED JOHN THE BAPTIST,
THAT WAS HERALDING THE NEWS,
ABOUT THE COMING OF A SAVIOR,
FOR BOTH THE GENTILES AND THE JEWS---

OH, EMMANUEL, THE FATHER'S PRECIOUS SON,
HE FORGIVES OUR SINS AND WASHES CLEAN
THE HEART OF EVERY ONE.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
