Ok last week while we were on vacation at the Museum I noticed the "Insurance office". I thought then about going in and talking to them, but didn't. Monday, I got my premium notice for the Corvette from my local agent. Up again from a year ago...getting pretty tired of that.

So, I went on-line tonight the NCM insurance and got a "quick quote" and, as it turns out, it's about half the price of the local agent. Looks to be very similar coverage...at least the numbers that are listed are the same....actually better for the NCM.

Does anyone have any experience or heard anything about the NCM insurance? Thinking I am going to call tomorrow and talk to them and verify the cost, then talk to my local agent to see what they have to say.

Looking for any feedback.

One off Andy's buddies, Adam Boca, founding agent, was closely affiliated with NCM insurance and still is from what I see. I'm trying to remember what swayed me away but I think it had something to do with being garage kept. There could be some info on it on the "other" forum. I believe they may be similar in nature to some collector car insurance offerings based on use, mileage, storage, value and so on. You can request a quote.

Thanks Tommy. Yea, I think it says kept in a garage, which mine is, and I put in a value into the quote ($28k), which should allow me to purchase a similar car should mine be totaled.

I really like that picture!

Just got off the phone with them (about an hour ago) Agreed value of $28k same limits as my current policy, except $0 deductibles (versus $1000 on current) 6000 mile limits (I have been putting about 5k/year with it) If I become a member of the NCM (which I've been considering anyway) my premium would be right at $400/year (currently billing for 6 months is $418)

Well, I went in and talked to my local agent this afternoon. I asked him what the difference was, and handed him my quote. After he looked at it, he said the only thing he saw different was what they "valued" the car at...???

He showed me a value of $68K ..... I said if it is totaled is that what they would give me? "Oh, no. They figure depreciation from that figure." I said, "Well, that is probably close to the list price of the car new. How much is it worth now?" He said he didn't know... I asked him if it was based on book value. And he said yes it was. I told him book on the car was probably less than $20k...then went on to tell him with this insurance, I would get $28k + 2%/quarter.... He took the sheet and read it and his eyes opened pretty wide. "I wouldn't blame you if you switched", he went on to say.

Then he said you know, I think we have this company as a product we can sell. I'll check into it. I told him that, that quote didn't include my Defensive driver class that I just completed, which should reduce it another $20, to under $400/year. If you can match that price I'll go with a local guy. ......we'll see how that turns out.

My local agent is still working on something, If he doesn't get back to me this week, I'll more than likely switch to NCM.

OK, local guys just called back. Yes it is the same underwriter as the NCM and he quoted me, with all the same numbers as NCM, at $408/year. I get to keep my local agent too...... now to decide whether I want to go that way or through the NCM.

Kind of a no-brainer to keep your agent?

Kinda amazing how all of a sudden the local guy has come up with such a good deal.... I think of it like a service guy I been working with makes me a bid on some kind of job I need done. then I get a bid from another good source that is a 1/3 less money.... Now I can use his bid to shop my original guy and force him lower which does not honor the other guy trying to make an honest bid for my business.

Your local insurance agent should have had you at that low rate already and when you asked for a bid from NCM it would have matched and you would have thought... hell I'm getting a pretty good deal right here at home..... but that was not the case. Only after you told the local guy what the deal was did he amazingly come up with a price that matched.

Is that how it played out or am I wrong on the scenario?

Since NCM established the low price off the bat I would be inclined to go with them. Or not...... hard to break away from a local insurance deal if all your other stuff is with them also.

That's not exactly how it went down....but in some ways, yes. He was ready to let me go, then realized he'd seen that company name before and only then realized (maybe a put-on for me) that this company was one that they could use. The "boss" took over after that and told me they had used the company before, "only for home insurance" and she actually thanked me for bringing this to their "attention".

I have switched the Corvette (as of 8/22/19) to this insurance, through my local agent......
