As some of you already know I live in the area of Dayton Ohio. Sadly a couple of weeks ago there was a mass shooting here in Dayton. These things have become so common that I’ve kind of wondered when it would happen in Dayton and now, sadly, I have that answer.
It happened in the downtown area called the, “Oregon District.” In the early ‘70’s a local effort began to rehab the area for historic reasons. Soon it became a popular area along a block of East Fifth street, with a number of watering holes for a number of tastes, from live music, dance, or just being seen.
There’s also the surrounding residential area that was given some rehab, some didn’t. As you might expect, there’s always been an element of residents there as well. The idiot that attacked people that night was not from there, but a better suburb of Dayton.
In 1989-90, I stopped going there because of not only the fight prone University of Dayton crowd, but more because of the murder of a work acquaintance. He was killed by a thief he caught who’d broken into his truck.
The Oregon District is still a very popular evening destination. Personally, I think the media blacks out crime in the District for monetary reasons. But I also think it’s probably somewhat safe. But there’s a reason there was a police presence that could respond so quickly. They’re there for a reason.
Ultimately, I still strongly support the second amendment. While I don’t prefer to own a gun, I believe in the rights given us in the Constitution.
I also believe that if the ENTIRE media, tv, print, etc., were to black out ALL glorification of the perpetrators of these crimes, they would be curtailed greatly.
These are just some thoughts I’ve had on this event and others. Thanks for taking the time to read them.

Ban cell phones because of the accidents they create and the lives lost due to inattention. Ban cars because the impaired can drive them and we all know how bad that can be. Close the beaches because someone might get attacked by a shark.

Just heard about the guy that killed the cop in California with a long gun. It appears it was against the law for him to possess a weapon. How many killed on the streets of Chicago are killed with legal weapons? You can pass laws but how do you enforce them when someone is hellbent on creating chaos.

I'm 30 minutes from a police response. Does anybody think I'm going to rely on police protection? When our nurseries are burglarized and I get there in under 7 minutes and have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for police back up to arrive. I tell them I'm armed and going in to get them there a little faster. They don't like armed civilians engaging criminals. But I would, have, and will. Dangerous? Sure it is. But on our properties I'm the King, police, fire marshal, maintenance man, landscaper, maid, cook, dog walker and anything else I need to be. Even a plumber and I hate fuckin plumbing.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. THE MEDIA FEEDS AND PERPETUATES THESE THINGS.

...and a lot of it right now is somehow being bent around to blame the Trumpster and all who voted for him...... it's happening because of the conservative capitalistic ideals that we hold on to.

In a socialistic America they are implying that such things would not happen. Even though the left wingers have been in charge of a lot of major cities for years and years, and they will shoot more in Chicago alone this coming weekend and along with all the other big cities in the Nation the death count will be high. .......but nobody pays attention to that..... right?
