Good morning, all.

Warm and misty in the Philadelphia area, with rain predicted for the next few days.

As we fix various things around our house, we're tending to make them period-correct—our house was built almost exactly sixty years ago. I find that a) I'm often unsure what various architectural components are, and b) I want to make sure exactly what subtype of house we have.

I'm putting in a word for an unexpectedly magnificent book (though I should have believed the reviews). Virginia Savage McAlester's A Field Guide to American Houses is amazing—848 pages of reference about how your house, your neighbor's house, and your entire neighborhood got the way it is. Highly recommended, with the second edition now in its fifth printing. Available, of course, from:

Morning guys... tired this morning. Going to be warmer today, highs into the upper 90s, maybe low 100s. Humidity is rising as well. Good day to stay inside and work.

John, restoring old houses is very much like restoring old cars. It can be very satisfying, but can be frustrating too, but I'm sure you already knew that. I like to duplicate those kinds of things.

It's July. In Southern California. And I hear THUNDER.

I hear thunder too but it's South Florida and almost a daily, multiple time experience. My weeding yesterday must have pushed the limits on one toe. The digit was not happy last night or this morning. I want to break out the weed whacker but am having second thoughts. Always something to be done so I'm sure I can fill any void in other ways.

good afternoon - where has my last few days gone? Seems I've not sat down since Friday morning. Was up early and had coffee then was in our mayor's office till 1:30, then nursing home, then run errands, then gym, then drop off plants to a friend, then home, cook supper, go to bed. Seems like every day including yesterday has been like that. I have a minute to myself in the morning for coffee then I'm running my hind end off. Looks like everyone has been busy as well. Sorry I've been mia seems like soon as I leave here on Thursday hectic happens.
One positive employee at the nursing home again so there's a very limited compassionate care visit schedule till they make sure it's not an outbreak. Figures. Bout sick of it.
I missed all the conversation about the booze but I used to drink quite a bit. Health/hormone doc told me stop with the beer, body dont' like it. Have bourbon instead. I find now when I have a beer I wonder why I had all the rest of them. There's a couple I like and that's it. One here and there, a six pack would last me a year. One good dark stout now and then and I'm good. Otherwise it's bourbon or a mixed treat and not very often. I try to eat/drink pretty clean.

Cleaning the 1985 this evening to prepare for the BaT photographer on Friday reminded me of how much effort I've put into learning specifically how to clean C4s.

Do you have a guide for that?
