The strip that runs along the INSIDE of the door window glass needs to be replaced on my 87. The rubber strip is attached to the top of the door panel.
I'm wondering if I can buy just the rubber strip? Or, do I need to buy the top part of the door panel (which the strip would be attached to). I can't tell how the strip is attached and if I could easily remove it and how to attach a new one.
Anyone done this repair and help me avoid wasting time?

I did mine on my 89 when I had it. Take the door panel off and the window seal is held in with heavy duty staples. I don't remember if I pried them out or used a little grinding tip but it wasn't a horrible job.

If you do outer window seal at the same time those are held onto the door with rivets. You drill those out, just wrap the drill bit with a thick, thick, layer of tape to act as a depth stop so you don't drill through the door.

The video is AWESOME! Thanks for the helpful replies!

He used the term 'felt' for the part that brushes against the glass on the inside. Can I get that part at an auto-parts store? Or do I need to order it through a specialty shop?

I have a brad nailer, but it looks like I 'should' to get an air stapler for this job.

You'll have to order the window felts from a Corvette supplier.

I started with the FSM, but didn't find the part called out on any drawings in the Body section (10), especially not in Figure 10-24 Door Trim Panel.

I found them on a couple of different auto parts sites.
They are called different names.
Door Window (or Door Panel) inner seals (which makes sense) or Beltline molding (which doesn't make sense at all!).

Ultimately, I ordered the "Beltline molding" through CarParts.com and it looks to be the correct part. I was able to order both Driver and Passenger sides, or just one side.

Getting the old staples out of the molding strip is a BEAR! I spent 30 mins working on just ONE staple to get it out (and that was the easiest one!). I can't get ahold of the staples from the top side because they are so tight and they are a heavy gauge, so very difficult to cut.

I also discovered that the top piece of the door panel (that the strip is stapled to) is cracked or broken in several places.

Does anyone have experience with gluing the door panel (black) plastic? I presume an epoxy would be best, but maybe super glue would be better?

I seem to recall mine also being cracked but it was so long ago I don't remember if I was able to glue it or not. Did you have any luck?

JB Weld makes a great product for plastics, Plastic Weld.

Works great.

I used an epoxy, which worked until I attempted to drive new staples in with the air stapler. The repairs didn't hold up to the force of the staple going through. It's actually making the problem worse by making new breaks in the black plastic.

I'm really not sure what to do at this point.

I seem to recall that some people have put a thin strip of aluminum behind there to act as an anchor.
