Hi guys. Tony here again. Well the security system is fine on my 96 vette. I did what you guys told me to do. I got a new key, and it started rite up... thanks again fellas.
Now I got my altenator checked. Because I got a new battery. And I had to get a jump the next day. It was only putting out 11 at the time, the altenator, so the shop said that I need a new one. 140 amp one for my 96, 350, LT1. So I charged the new battery up. And put it back in my vette. Then the Volts meter was reading 13.9, 14.6. and it went down a few times to about 11.3.. It seemed to be working fine, at night now with all the lights and things on. the alll of a sudden it dropped to about 9.0, 9.8. Was do you think is causing this

Battery Drain. The main purpose of the alternator is to "re-charge" the battery power that the electronics of your car uses. If your alternator is bad, it is not re-charging the battery at all or fast enough. a dead or low-charged battery will show low voltage. A car can actually run and be started a few times(or more) with no alternator output.

If the mechanic said it needed one, get one. If you want a second opinion, go somewhere else and see if they say the same thing.

where do you live?? i'm thinking england?? reason i ask, i have a corvette mechanic, period, he resto's old ones and knows what is going on with my car. i reccomend that you find someone like this, that is very knowledgeable, about corvettes. dealers can be so expensive. does the dealer you are using have a vette specialist?? i would want to talk with him, rather than just the service manager, or any other mechanic, that just drools over your baby.
sounds like a bad alt. to me at this point. good luck bro :thumbright:

Most likely its the alternator, but you should check all the connections to the alternator and especially check the battery connections. Make sure there is no corrosion there and the terminals are tight. Check the engine grounds too, although you probably would be having other electrical "issues" if the grounds were bad.

I live in Cape May, New Jersey. And yes the Dealers here are over rated.over priced. I'm looking for someone who specializes in Vettes. To be honest with you I am probably going to end up taking my Vette to the Atlantic City area. Or just take it up to near the Philadelphia area. Because there alot more choices.I am also looking for someone who specializes in rebuilding them too. So hopefully I can get someone who knows their stuff.
Thanks Again Fellas
