Decided to swap headers on the 62. Replaced a set of unknown 1 5/8" X 3.00" mid-length headers, with a set of hooker super comp 1 3/4" x 3.00" headers (28" primaries).
When I first installed the 1 5/8" headers, I replaced the stock 2.00" manifolds and stock exhaust. At that time, I upgraded to 2 1/2" mandrel-bent pipes. The header/exhaust swap provided a nice SOP boost, and were good for about 2 mpg. I'm hoping to pick-up the mid and top end with the larger headers. I'll be heading to the track on 10/18 to try to quantify the change. The new headers fit the chassis OK, but there is a rattle that will need to be fixed (pass side header collector and frame). Spark plug access is good, but the clearance is tight for a couple of the boots. Old vs new headers I found the unsavory character holding the sawzall loitering in a Home Depot parking lot holding a sign that said, "Will wrench for food." Front view - headers hang below frame 2 1/2" tail pipes I drove the car to the muffler shop with open pipes. The car was noticeably louder with the bigger headers, compared to the open 1 5/8" headers. The throttle response was crisp. With the new head pipes, the car is fairly quiet, even compared to the car with the smaller headers. Haven't gotten on it yet with the larger headers, so I can't comment yet on the change in performance. |

I love this car! How much clearance do the headers give you? I imagine you do chase scenes in SanFransisco and getting a shower of sparks after every hill.
Look great! |

Thanks for the kind words.
Bogus, we're running the original 327/300 HP. he block is + .040", and it has a 3.85" stroke, the stock heads have been ported, and the cam is a regrind from Camonics. Cam The car currently has a 3.36 P case posi. The intake is a #8120 Weiand low-rise dual plane. I may try a ported Team G at a later date. It is supposed to fit under hood. I'm also considering a swap to a HR cam. biggrizzly, without breaking out a tape measure, I would guess we have about 7-8" clearance between the headers and the ground. The tail pipes have plenty of clearance. Wes |

A 327 has a 4.0" bore (like a 350, and a 3.25" stroke. With the 3.85" stroke and overbore, it's 395 CI give or take. |
