So tell me if I'm nuts, or what. I currently have my stock TPI on my 89. I've got another 89 plenum and intake sitting in the garage waiting for me to port, along with a brand new set of SLP runners for it. Pretty much had my mind set on this deal. But now I've been considering just doing the converted-LT1 intake swap instead. I see them for sale every once in a while, and the cost would be the same. I could sell my other parts without issue. I think performance-wise they should be similar based on things I've read, but I'm just not sure what to do. Seems like the converted-LT1 would be easier to install.

I know I'm just ranting here, but what do you guys think?

It's definitely easier to install. Even the most practiced will spend some hours R&Ring a TPI set-up where these intakes can be installed in a fraction of the time once it's set up and all changeover parts are on hand. Although of course on an LT1, there's no distributor involved in the process, I can easily R&R mine in an hour, surface cleaning and all.

The TPI is better looking, if you care.

There is a distributor with the TPI to LT1/mini-ram swap that I believe he is talking about.

I have considered it also; I read a post by Josh (Neat) over at the other place, and his costs were very close to the mini ram. I have also read there can be tuning issue's, not sure if that's true or not. I think you would need a small cap distributor, and I would make sure the intake that you buy has been machined correctly. If the distributor hole is not in the right place, it can cause the dist gear to not mesh correctly w/ the gear on the cam. You also want the holes for the water outlets to be on the front of the manifold, not the rear.

Why? The price of the vortech base more than offsets any savings you get on the heads.

Thanks, Randy. I've been looking at this swap for about 6 months now, but decided to do the TPI early on. I just figure now the LT1 is so much easier and would be less difficult to R&R if there were problems. After installing my Bosch III injectors I found out how much of a PIA the TPI system is.

As far as the intake itself, I see them for sale every once in a while. Like this thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-pa ... s-lt1-intake-for-l98.html

The guy had it on his car for several years with apparently no issues, so seems like it has been machined/set up properly.

As far as aesthetics, I could care less either way.

i bought one from pr0zac becuase i wanted to do the swap. then i started figuring in changing the distributor, harness for that, i don't like the remote thermostat housing idea one bit - so i bought a superram. i had to buy 1 2/3 of them to get good parts but in the end i've always wanted one.

Thanks, Dan. I've been to that website a few times. The best information on the swap, I think, is over on the thirdgen boards. More guys over there seem to have done the swap.

Nice! I picked up a used edelbrock base for $65 and massaged some stock runners and matched them up to it. It's a stretch. I think I'll just get some large tube runners instead.

I want it to look stock.
