My Son was home this past week from a 9 month deployment and he decided he needed a better car. After considering a few cars in the price range we were looking in, we decided to cruise up to Denver to look at a 95 my wife spotted on the internet.

He finishes up in Virginia in July, stops home for a month, then goes to his permanant duty station in 29 Palms California.

Here is what he's taking with him:
39,000 miles
6speed
Black/Tan

On the way home

Thanks for the kind words for my son. I'm gonna get him to become a member here asap. The car is a diamond. Everything works, and that includes the CD player and antenna!!

Jeff,(ya big bully) surely you didnt think his first Vette should be a Z did you? My son is an excellent shot with pretty much anything that fires a bullet, but as far as auto mechanic ability, it didnt rub off to well. I'm his mechanic, and him being in California for the next 2.5 years, I figure a low mile LT1 car would be easier on his wallet should something go wrong. Hey, at least its a stick!!

Anyway, for $13,580. taxes included, I think he did well.

So did he take it to VA, or is the car living with you until he leaves for CA?

Congrats! That is a beautiful car and with only 39,000 miles, that's fantastic! Hwy 62 just outside of 29 Palms heading towards Arizona is one of my favorite roads to run wide open in southern California. Aside from being in excellent condition, it's a looong very straight road going slightly downhill that you can easily see miles behind you and at least a minimum of five miles ahead. No cars in either direction equals right foot pinned. I ran my friends C5 to 167mph there before he made me pull over and give up the wheel, then he ran 171. We never saw another car, it's like a private testing area. Now I'm wondering what it looks like on google map. Ok, enough babbling from me. Please thank him for his service, we all owe him.

Exactly. So you should take the Z over to Chris' house and he will carefully store it for you so that the BMW can be safely parked in the garage.

Congrats to your son.

I bought my first Corvette (92 LT1 6spd) the same way (using money I saved while on deployment). I used subsequent deployment money to buy a second Corvette (76 L48 Auto), a couple of motorcycles and modify the heck out of the 92. Kinda sucks since I got out, I can't just go away for a couple of months and come back with enough money to buy whatever I want.

C4FUN:

I used National Parks Hwy/Amboy RD to open my Porsche 928S up when I left 29 Palms in 2004. I couldn't wait to get out of there and back to the east coast. Your right thou nothing like blasting wide open (158mph by GPS in my Porsche) looking forward and seeing nothing but miles and miles of desert sprawled out infront of you.

I went to Norfolk once in High School on a school trip. It was the first time I saw a warship in person. I could have stood there and looked at it for hours.

OK, sorry. Back on topic...

I've always liked those 928S's. That 4 valve engine was pretty neat. You very rarely see them around anymore, same with older 911's. I like those too.

It's almost like they designed those roads in the desert with high speed in mind. Arrow straight, no dips, no crossroads, and no traffic. Just put the center of the hood on the centerline and go. A guy I knew used to work for Saleen. When they were testing the S7 they'd go out at night to where the toll roads in Orange county were being built. They'd go around the barricades and run wide open. I know some guys that used to test prior to Bonneville in the wee hours of the morning on the I-15 between Escondido and Temecula. Guys with the need for speed always find a way.
