93 miles and the case cracked in half going into reverse. That was the first one.
They claim it was a front pump defect among other things that got straightened out in 04 (it didnt). Most Silverado owners Ive talked to have been through a number of them, dealer says youre lucky to get 60k out of them.
Maybe you got lucky with yours.

Didn't know that, all I can speak about is mine. Guess I did get lucky.
Maybe, when I have big bucks, I'll get an Allison in the next one.

check out this setup...

Use a cap with full length windows that open for access to the shelf. Added a shelf that I can roll out if I need the space for something other than racing. Shelf is at the height of the top of the bed. Will post a picture tomorrow.

Ed

Edited to add pictures. Shelf significantly increases capacity and accessibility. Shelf has garage door rollers mounted under it with garage door tracks mounted on inside of bed. Shelf can be emptied and easily removed to create space for other uses. Shelf has one sloped side for easy visibility of contents. Other side is flat for larger items.

It looks like you're going to get a real good deal on a truck no matter what you end up buying.

If it was me, looking at caps that cost $3k with options, I'd sell that open trailer and buy a used enclosed. Reduce a bunch of the security stuff, leave the truck bed open for hauling tall stuff.

Plus, the C4 wouldn't be sittin in the snow with a cover on it.

Yea, and if you come home from a long race weekend, all you have to do is shut off the truck. No unloading anything that someone might ripoff.

Trailer dealers are hurting as bad as the car dealers right now. I see new 20' as low as $4,500 and eve Haulmarks for $6k, new.

Depends what brand, how it's built, etc. Open trailers start at $1,700 new and go to $3,500 & up.

Geez. Why not just drive the car to the track. I see people drag soooo much shit out there that they spend more time unloading than racing. Its not like you're an NHRA team doing engine rebuilds between runs.

I guarantee for every dollar you spent on a trailer you're going to spend $10 more filling it with crap that will only get used when people ask to borrow it.

I assume you're not one of those guys who waits until he's at the track to find out his car needs some work.

Even for the dragstrip when I wanted to get there quick for tech I've thrown the jack and drag radials in back. I can carry a set of 4 race tires and a jack in there if I wanted to.

Lucky for you, all you have to do is wait for The Veterans Day Extravaganza. Prices like you've never seen before or will ever see again. Or you can pick up a turkey of a deal later this month. If your still not ready, December is a traditionally slow month for vehicle sales because everybody is spending for X-mas. Year end clearance and they'll be practically giving the stuff away.

It's Insane !!!

Yikes, where would I sleep?

I haven't done a motor rebuild at the track, but I've changed wheel bearings, done several opti swaps, fixed oil leaks, fixed crash damage, etc. For that kind of work you need an EZ-up canopy, tools, jackstands, a jack, and a big-ass cooler full of beer!

I can't fit much more than a 6-pack in my C4.

Yea, really. Where are you going to put the steak, shrip & BBQ?
I've done everything, including engine swaps, at the track.

What's really fun is when your buddy says "Can you take your car home, unload and come back and get my car?" or " Can you stop what you're doin' and drive me to town to spend a couple hours lookin' for parts?"

Ha, that guy is me! I have the pickup, my teammate has the Suburban 2500. He always has to unhook and cart the rest of us drunkasses around for the weekend because he has seating for 8

Sleep in a $15 tent? Or race a station wagon. I've slept in a C4 overnight, doesn't work well. It might take 15 hours to squeeze 6 hours of shut-eye in. And you'll be as flexible as a brick in the morning.

I always unhook anyway, just incase someone wants to buy me dinner intown.
The BBQs and parties at the track are better than dinner in town anyway. Plus the free booze at the Sat.Nite Social for the workers can't be beat.

It's the guys that continually break at the HPDEs and interrupt what I'm doing that bug me. The guys that say "I really should get a trailer."

The dealer just called.

As I figured the rebates that were in place in Oct are still in place for this month, no surprize.

But get this the rebates on the 3/4 tons have gone up CONSIDERABLY. He's looking at one now that I could get for the same amount of $$$ as I was looking at the 1/2 ton.

My 1/2 ton, 2 wheel rides like a Caddy even with the helper springs I put on.

I wasn't satisfied with the amount the rear sank when I hook up the trailer. I don't use a load leveler hitch and the tongue weight is about 500, the trailer weight is under 4000. The helper leafs did a good job.
If I get another truck, I'm going to look at 3/4s but definately will drive both before I decide.

I stop by Thursday to sign.

The sticker is $32k, I'm getting it for $23k

and get this if I do go for the $6k cashback financing, there's no penalty for paying it off early.

So there's another $6k off.

So, you're lookin' at borrowing $6k in cash from them?

I always wanted to see the numbers run- cash back at their finance rate vs 0% financing vs paying cash outright.

I always wanted to see the numbers run- cash back at their finance rate vs 0% financing vs paying cash outright.

On my truck, the cash-back vs. better rate broke even at 5 years. They know what they're doing. I went for the cash back and ended up dumping the rest of the loan on a 2% credit card.

It was $23k, that was with the discount, and that's what he quoted me.

Either way I'm happy

Towing capacity is 10,200lbs btw

6 liter, 6sp auto, 3/4 ton, 4x4 can easily haul my car to the track, 10,200lb towing capacity.

Needless to say the Corvette is now officially a toy

Enjoy the ride. Now you can hit the back country. Take a rock and throw it at the truck so you can get the first dent and scrape thing over with from the jump.
