I'd like to see a list of vendor sites from the top banner on the left side (if you can do it and still get the click credit).

I go on some of them like TCP a bunch. It usually takes 7 refreshes just to get them to come up. I can type them in faster.

Maybe you could get rid of the trivia game announcement at the top of the home page since it is about 7 months out of date. Maybe substitute a better welcome statement about what CG is all about for the newbie?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Lemme address some of them:

1. Tommy's head. That's up to him.

2. We have a post here in OT that will link up the banner ads. We will look into a clone on the left margin. Currently, FIC is in there under "Gold Sponsors."

3. We will work on the front block. I agree, it has stagnated.

4. Cash and valuable prizes? That's what trivia tried to do! We will run a trivia game soon, but I need to get through the next couple of months. As for the backbutton... that is a restriction of the software. However, if you select the "GO" button at the bottom right of the screen after you post, it will take you back to the forum you are in, or, hit "HOME" at the top left in the left margin, will take you back to the home screen.

Thank's and keep'm coming!!!!

I like the "My Recent Topics" header in CF. Makes it easier to jump to threads or posts you have answered to. Just my 2 cents.

I have heard arguments on both sides of this. Basic and simple is easy to ready (especially for older eyes), but the lack of graphics is boring.

The later versions of this software might improve the look. The real problem is setting this software up... mess with the style sheet and you have opened up a real can of worms!

I don't think this software supports that.

What you can do, though, is go to your profile, and it will list your last five threads.

I will check if there is a way to add that to the blocks on the front page!

I had trouble with pictures, had to resize them. Now I keep my camera on low (640X480) pixels) if it's something I might want to post. I think the colors and the layout are fine. Got enough 'bling' out there.

When it comes to pics I think the best option is to load them in a photobucket account then move them here. Make sure you change the IMG to img and they should load just fine. Smaller sizes load easily through the site software. If it doesn't load try photobucket or similar sites.

Example

[IMG to [img Same with the back end /IMG] to /img]

I'm thinking "Hula Dancers".... let the idea sit for a while.... you'll see the light.

I do agree with the color of the website, looks a bit outdated..... dark background colors work better, thus the color contrast is that much better with the pictures & graphics of the website.

But, Hula Dancers work with any color....

The picture system is really easy to use, but realize we ain't made of disc space!

It has a size limit - 1mb. Still quite nice, really.

Windows has a quick resizer program that you can download and install. It's free, too, and is accessable via a right click. It will automatically make a copy of the pic in the size you want. Real fast!

If you use XP, this is the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/us ... more/tips/eschelman2.mspx

For Vista & 7 (using windows live photo gallery):

I enjoy the site a lot, just like it is. While keeping things current is a good idea, changing things around tends to baffle a compu-dope like me.
I'm glad we're able to have hot-chick fridays without nudity. I'm also really happy I can come to this site and not have to worry about a bunch of smart a$$e$ hijacking a thread or screwing it up to the point it must be locked.
By the way, I'm beginning to think I've missed out on a right of passage by not getting kicked off of CF.

Much of site management is about keeping it fresh without changing for the sake of changing.

When it comes right down to it, too many features will only attract a small percentage of users. So why alienate the remaining 95% to make happy 5%?

I know you may upset 5%, but you can't manage the entire whole by the cries of a small number.

For example, we had a run on rather racy avatar's. Some may have accused me of caving, but I was getting complaints daily. Many times, these things run their course and life goes on, but this was gaining momentum and wasn't showing signs of maintaining its composure. So I pulled the plug.

When I got emails from non-complainers thanking me, I was shocked. They had stopped coming because of the avatars!

So far, hot chick friday has stayed within the rules! I think that's great!

There is another reality... all these forum programs work pretty much the same. They all have the same buttons.... they all do the same things... With that said, I am always looking out for better technology to help us grow. This does not mean we are going to change for the sake of change. Whatever we transition into, it must do what we need it to do.

Now... look and feel is one thing, but branding is another... graphics, things like that are subject to change... subjected, tho, to my personal bandwidth.

I would like a link to the last post in a thread from any list of threads. If the time of the last post could be made clickable, it wouldn't chew up any real estate.

That's a good idea and is actually pretty easy to do.

I'll try and get that done this week.

I would like to put some automatically rotating corvette pics on the front page though that change every time you refresh or change daily, maybe using member submitted pics or something.

I did it on purpose. It will have a longer life in OT than a quick pass to oblivion from Sug/Com Sec. Many don't even know we have other sections.

I like the rotating members car pics and submissions idea as long as there's no rust on the submitters undercarriage. Overall it appears that everybody is content. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

More members!
All of us should PM friends on the other forums that we belong to and tell them about this much friendlier site.
We could also write/e-mail the Corvette magazines and mention the site in our questions; "Dear Editor, I belong to Corvette Guru.com and one of the members there was saying that C4s have metal floor pans, is that correct?"

Spreading the word at car shows, autocrosses and among others with a passion for Vettes cetainly helps build memebership. More posts would come with more people/participation.

Andy mentioned the site recently in an unnamed Corvette magazine and the site was edited out of his letter. Rocognition from major Corvette publications would certainly boost viewership of this site and I'm sure is welcome.

It's a web thing... these pages don't exist until they are rendered.

That means the old one essentially doesn't exist anymore to regenerate.

Hit the "GO" button to return to the forum, or, "Home" to return to the front page.

This is the "OFF TOPIC" section. Sorta anything goes. If I see "Hot Chick Friday" I have a choice not to open. ( I always do though ) If I need technical I know where to go. This section is for general conversation. Since I don't have a lot going on with my car this is where I spend most of my time. Just my 2 cents. I wouldn't change a thing.

That was me. Hot chick friday is great, I can check 'em at home. But big 'ol jugs on my screen while I'm trying to help someone with an Opti problem isn't cool...

Can we add the feature where you can mouse over the title of the thread and see the first few lines inside? I like that one.

Also, can we add the links at the bottom of the front page for [next] and [previous] page? I love that the most recently posted topics are on the front page, makes things easy. But sometimes I want to follow up on one that just got bumped off.

Personally, I rarely go into the HCF threads. From time to time I do to make sure all stays on the up and up, but that's only about once a month.

The Avatar issue was one causing lots of grief. They were everywhere and are not something we can turn off. This caused issue with work and family usage.

I am not a big fan of all the overt sexy stuff, but I am willing to let ppl have some fun. As far as I am concerned, that stuff can be found easily... just type "sex" in your average search engine...

Now... I typed "sex" into Yahoo image search... each page has 21 images... there were 72,077,353 PAGES.

Whos the knob complaining about racy avatars? Come on its a car site they go hand in hand.

By going to Forums and going to it's heading like C4 Technical you can see a number of topics under that heading. You can also get there by single clicking the Forum on the left of the topics like OFF Topic and everything in Off Topic will come up or as Andy mentioned earlier you can click on your screen name and all your previous posts show up

Back to HCF. Matt tries too keep the pics on HCF on PG to M level. There are underwear commercials more revealing than most of the selections in HCF. Of course, as in gay porn, if I don't want to see gay porn, avoid gay porn sites. Do not go into HCF unless you want to see young,(sometimes old), scantily clad women, posing like posers do. A Not Work Safe [NWS] tag is required for all unnacceptable posts for work and sometimes home environments. Language is liberal here but use common sense.

I know, I know. But that takes a click on each forum, then a back, then a click on the next one, etc. The homepage is a cross section of what we're talking about. It's awesome. I just want to be able to go a little further back. My index finger gets tired with all the clicking...I might accidentally burn an extra calorie and have to eat another of the "10 worst sandwiches" to make up for it.

BTW, I love the [NWS] label in the titles, and I love that people are good about using it. Usually those are the first threads I go to

I find Guru to be a bit disappointing considering the knowledge base that is here. IF as much effort was put into other areas you would have a better site. When you have senior members who know these cars inside and out spending their time trying to one up each others avatars and commenting on that weeks half ass porn pics you don't do much to retain membership or grow the site. That's my .02 anyways.

I am not sure how to help here. We answer what is posted. Short of starting posts in advance of a question, I am not sure what we can do to improve this aspect.

Discuss.

There doesn't appear to be a need here for alot of babysitting so that's where the mods come in I would think. There are guys here who could easily write up a L98 to LTX swap thread with pics. Starting threads to get things going isn't a bad idea and the mods could help move the conversation along and start threads to spur activity too. There's so much knowledge here, you wouldn't know it just looking around though. A comprehensive buyers guide, a troubleshooting guide/sticky and everyones favorite MODS !
What mods work and which ones do not. This info is all out there and documented just not in one place. love the site, not trying to talk shit really trying to help. John

A sticky with E.T.s broken down by model year and mods would be a good thing too. This is something Central had on the other site much like your buyers guide which is still there

JD - there is a buyer's guide in the tech library. Kevin also has a post in the racing section for drag times.

As far as step-by-step posts, I have personally made one with pictures for replacing a brake booster (in the tech library) as well as my entire rear end swap process. Once I do my engine removal and replacement, that will be documented, as well. Several other members have posted their trials and tribulations for various other builds, including PeteK's incredible transmission rebuild threads. The information is there and available, so I honestly don't know what you mean.
