At the top of the screen where the topic title is, there are two drop down boxes. If you can see avatars, you are not in compact view mode.

I like compact mode!
Mostly because I don't care about what your fantasy avatar girlfriend looks like, or what type of spark plugs you have on your V8, or what famous Mark Twain quotation you think will brighten my day. Bah humbug. |
