The original rear emblem on my 1985 is quite distressed and I'm considering replacing it with a new one. Does anybody have any thoughts on how easy or hard the old one will be to get off and any thoughts on how best to do it?

it is screwed on and sticky taped on.

remove the nuts and use some heavy duty dental floss to break free the glue. some WD40 won't hurt, either.

What Andy said. Don't try to pry it like I did at first, you'll gouge the paint. You can use fishing line if you don't have dental floss.

BTW, did you mean on the gas door or the rear bumper? Because I think the rear bumper also uses a kind of plastic rivet to hold it in as opposed to a nut. You may have to place a towel under a sturdy flat bladed tool and snap that off.

A heat gun on the low setting works well for removing emblems.

my 85 was very sticky, i did the same thing except heavy fishing line. end result was no scratches and i went back with nuts on it.
Problem someone told me is people steal them for sell.
