(15:38)Rocketman: I've got a '79 coupe that the battery goes dead in every time I plug in the courtesy light fuse. So I have to drive it without courtesy/interior lights. What could cause this? I've check the glovebox to make sure the light is being switched off when I close it.

An open circuit would cause this. Luckily you have found which circuit it is, the courtesy light circuit. Many people fight these battery drain issues for months or years! There is likely an exposed wire or it could be one of the door switches (also common). You will need a wiring diagram to see where all the wiring goes, which can be found in the factory service manual. Then it comes down to tracking down the wiring and inspecting it. Unfortunately the 79 manual I have is in MI with my dad's car.

I think the proper term would be grounded circuit or short circuit would cause this. Open circuits don't drain anything except your patients. |
