Ive decided to bite the bullet.

1998+ fiat coupe headlights molded into hood.

Ill be ordering these soon

Plan is to buy a high rise hood soon then take it all over to a friend who does custom fiberglass work.

Then it will be off to paint.

As far as I know right now You need to cut on the hood adn fill a gap as well as support the underside.

The lights are adjustable to get the beams right. I plan on switching from the H1 style bulb to another style when the time comes.

The lights im getting from a member of a fiat forum in the UK.
60pounds for the stock pair. 100pound for full refurbished.
Shipping is 61 pounds

1dollar = 1.54 pounds at the moment

Not counting the hood and paint im looking at around 400. My hood has some nick and I love the high rise so I wont lose anytime with my vette. just change the hood out when its all finished from paint.

I will do a thorough write up when finished.

the lights are not HID so I may go with some Xenon or silverstars.

Those actually look great in that top pic. I'm surprised. Much nicer than the other fixed headlight conversion kits out there for $1000.

I think the breathless kit is horrible as well. adn from reviews is WEAK. cracking after a year is unacceptable for a $1200 lighting system

If this works out like I believe all you will need is a lil know how in wiring(minimal) and fiberglass. Not to mention a lil paint.

With the stock hood I dont see why this couldnt be done for under $1000

I will also weigh the lights. the Fiat will have 3 lbs (estimate) of extra fiberglass to make it clean and I believe will be lighter than the entire stock setup

I've always wanted hood vents, too, and that would be the perfect time to do that. Something to consider...

Nice mod!! Please post in progress pix. Installation in a separate hood is a good idea or a winter time project on an original hood.

As far as hood vents & water, there is an aftermarket
f-glass co that makes hood vents & under hood diverters to eliminate water intrusion to vital areas. I cannot recall the company name (CRS).

Found it.

http://www.greenwoodcorvettes.net/gc4/louvers.htm

Does anyone know what rocker panels are on the car in the top photo or who makes them? I would be interested in a rocker box change without adding pieces to the doors etc.

Seems to me that a marketable pair made for flip light model Corvettes would be a profitable investment. Instead of modding the hood, mod the light fixtures for direct replacement by generation. Any product designers interested?

I think it modernizes the look of the C4. Makes it look 10 years younger.

Why these are my choice over a custom made set is they are pre-made. Fiberglass is easy to fill as well as paint. ABS plastic lenses molding would cost a lot more I am sure and the current economy might limit the ability to sell such a system.

I would definitely do that. On a light colored car, I think they would stand out a little too much if left black.

I really like those , why not convert them to HID ? you get so much more light output with lower heat. It would look
awsome at night ! but either way it is a great look and blows away anything I have seen yet . Good choice !!!

Headlights showed up today. About 10 days shipping from UK. Not bad. I didnt get the rebuilt ones and glad I didnt. These are almost perfect.

Also found a donor hood to start hacking on. Got some special plans to make it stand out besides the headlights.

Need to keep an eye on this. I am interested in doing something similar!

Pull a headlight and take a pic of the unit in the hood, will give us a better idea of what would need to be trimmed or added to to make them fit.

I will be curious, too.

Also, how good the resulting light pattern is. I know the car they came from, but I don't know it to any details, like, light patterns.

There are some serious differences between what is good and what meats various standards! I can say this: The headlights on my 92 and 94 Preludes were leaps and bounds better than the lights on my 92 Vette, and they both met DOT standards.

Now... these FIAT lights will more than likely have to meet EU and/or TUV standards (if the car was sold in Germany). It must meet UK MoT, I did see a couple of those when I was in the UK last year.

EU standards>USA DOT

By leaps and bounds ahead. I can see fine with my stock lights but they still arent very bright. These housings look much more projected

Hey guys! New to this forum. 383tpimachine, I have a few questions for you. I purchased these same lights last year from the UK from a 98 or 99 20v. I planned on doing this mod a year ago but never completely figured out the wiring. You can google Fiat corvette and see that I was actually incontact with the forum where this guy Johnny was originally a member of in the NL. I never actually got a hold of him because he wrecked the pictured car, and the shop he sold the wrecked car to never replied to me either but a few members of that forum did. The hangup I had was wiring a switch for the self adjusting motors in the headlights as well as splicing in different type of lights. If you figure any of this out please let me know. Also, I will post more pics of his car when I get home from work today. Thanks!

The wiring should be rather straight forward.

You can ignore the motor wires... easy... the lights are the lights... low beam to low, high to high and that should be about it.

Who thinks I should do orange halos? 1 on the fogs and 1 on the headlights?

they make them and I think they look nice. Another thing to stand out.

on the plus side. Started polishing the lenses. Should finish them pretty close this weekend then its time to start on the hood
