I noticed that the Michelan Pilots seem to pick up a lot of fine debris,i.e. fine stones or fine gravel, comes off easy. Is this due to the tread compound on a hot day at high speeds. It was well over 95 degrees yesterday on black top.
Tires seem fine now! Should this be a concern?? Erin

nope. All hi-po sticky rubber does it.

Try that sometime with racing slicks... or road course compound tires... heh heh heh... damned near street cleaners.

Dad just came home and said the same thing Andy about the tires, he had to run to Corvette Central and then see parents of two teenagers that drowned in Lake Michigan last week. Not sure if they were students of his or not. Sad!
Have a great evening Guru's Erin

I race practice street launches in front of my house. The tires get pretty warm and when i drive back down our river rock and gravel driveway it sounds like a machine gun

Dont worry about it unless there are chunks of the tire missing

No chunks of tires missing. Just couldn't believe how soft the tires were when hot, almost sticky.

With the kind of HP/Torque you have in Zoe you really, really want sticky tires. My drag radials would pick up gravel chips just rolling them across my garage floor, and it is a cement floor. Go figure.

ps-have you smoked the tires yet?

Andy: I think she is very reluctant to try. The tires broke loose on her when she nailed it once last week in third gear. I tell her she breaks she pays for it.. She is so afraid she will break it and doesn't want to hurt it. Erin is a fiscally conservative penny pincher. She's not cheap but buys things to last. If she can't pay cash for it she won't buy it. Pretty neat for a 28 yr old.

It's just the way high performance tires are. They won't pick nearly as much when cold.
Those particular tires will run at about 140+ degrees on a hot day just driving on the interstate. The hotter they get, the more they pick up. All perfectly normal.

The pick up you're seeing will be removed in a couple corners on the street even at lower speeds.

If you've watched a oval or road race and seen the cars weaving back and forth before the start, they aren't warming up the tires, they are scrubbing off the pickup.

The Z06 I instructed in last weekend had a set of Generals on. He had almost no pickup on the tires but the car did tend to slide a bit more in the corners (not a big deal and doesn't mean anything bad about Generals).

Really sounds like she has her act together. She sounds a lot like my daughter and my son as well. A corvette friend broke his tires loose going into 4th gear (C5Z06) and spun out. Bad thing for him was he was at Atlanta Dragway and spun it into the wall at the track. It was his first and of course last pass at the strip. No insurance so he spent two years and a ton of money repairing it - r front and then spun and put the rear into the wall as well. Glad Erin is being carefull.

I grew up poor!(alcoholic parents) Had to work hard for everything I got. Erin has it made but she had to work and appreciate what hard work and responsibility she has to her self to succeed. Andy this kid has her stuff together like your children! I see so many spoiled kids that dad gives them vettes or porsches do they really appreciate the car. Hell no they don't! First thing they want to do is drop money into the car they don't have. Or worse yet they have a family and forget their responsibilities to their family and buy shit for their car. Sorry Andy beginning to rant.

Ever tried growing in a house hold where your Dad and Mom are teachers, and your Dad an x Navy SEAL. . Couldn't get away with anything! We had a botched home invasion at our old house and I swear Dad was having fun with the three intruders. All three where in tears and one wet his pants. Honestly hes is really a great dad and teacher! he can adapt to anything. Maybe I've said too much Erin
