I almost forgot to ask this question! I went to an old air strip about a mile and half from my parents house. The locals (dads hot rod buddies) have a 1/4 marked out with a homemade very sophicated timing system. My boyfriend kept 0-60 times of 5.3, 4.9,4.6,4.3,3.7,3.3 and 4.0. I never shifted out of first. Are those good times! We could not acquire the 1/4 with out the guys there to hook stuff up. What can be expected in a 1/4 mile.
I see a timing ticket that my dad has for his 55 chevy of
9.96 @ 140.11 is that a good time?
I have seen drag racing but unsure of the expectations of a 1/4 mile and time. Road course racing seems more challenging.

Since I don't have a C6Z06 I had to look it up.

"Car and Driver recorded a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and 1/4 mile in 11.8 seconds at 122 mph in their March 2007 comparison test."

Roadcourses are way more challenging for the driver but it's an apples to oranges compareson.

Anyone can go out and take a run down the strip. But anyone can also go on a roadcourse and run laps at slower (freeway) speeds.

When you try to do it in competition, they are fairly equal. About the same amount of work involved on the cars. And in competition, neither driver can afford a mistake.

Whatever gets your adrenaline pumping. Racing does that. Find your niche or play the field. You can do a little of all. 1/8th, 1/4, autocross or HPDE. It's a blast to use these cars for what they were made for. Glad to see your enjoying the challenge Erin. I agree with Bill that twists and turns add to the excitement. It also makes for a longer driving experience.

I might ad that drag racing is going to be harder on drive train. Road racing is harder on brakes and tires. If you can afford to do a few HPDEs a year and some local Autocross, that's the route I would recommend. Sure, take it to the drag strip and run it a few times to see what it does and get that experience out of your system. Your car will really be good on the road course.

Drag strip and auto-x is a cheap and easy way to get your feet wet... the guys at the road course are a little more hard core and "invested" overall but I think it's worth every penny. Any of the above will beat the crap out of your car, it's a street car first, race car 2nd.

In the 1/4 (and onroad) you'll find that lap times/ET have more to do with the driver than the car. So don't feel bad when you get creamed by a STi, because on the next run you might take out a guy in a carrera GT.

I think she wants to kick Danica Patricks butt!
She felt bad after she did 0-60 runs. "I didn't hurt it did I"
Time and velocity to her are a constant. I have tried to explain the launch and reaction time. Shes getting there!

60' is everything! Every tenth you shave off the 60' is about 2 tenths off the ET.

Hi Kevin. I see the relationship now! I don't know what I was thinking when I posted. Brain lapse I guess. I still get butterflies in the pit of my stomach when I accelerate this bad boy. Does controlled choas make sense! Erin

I was in San Diego last spring at a company called Gen Probe ever hear of it!

Andy I think when I posted that I was thinking why the relationship of 0-60.why not 0-100. Honestly never thought about about car and driver. I always felt that since the automotive companies were paying advertsing dollars with the magazine they wouldn't get an objective review, or is that too subjective! Erin

Yes!! 9.96 is a great time, especially if this is a full bodied 55 Chevy! Any pictures of it?
